I drive 2014 Jeep Cherokee that has little under 13K miles and my first oil change was done 10/4/2014, at 6198 miles on the car with oil indicator showing 20% life of oil (I used conventional oil change (0W20 - standard mixture of conventional and synthetic oil the service center used which is recommended by the Jeep Chrysler for Jeep Cherokee). With newer cars (with careful maintenance), most cars, like mine, goes about 7K or 8K miles between oil changes. My last oil change was done at Pep Boys (4491 E Speedway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85712) 4/18/2015, at 12130 miles on the car with oil indicator showing 14% life on the condition of the oil. This time I decided to go with Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 0W20 Motor Oil. I did some research and many experts says with normal driving conditions, the full synthetic would give me better performance but some reason my car's gas mileage got worse and oil condition is dropping dramatically, which I calculated it would last only 6,050 miles. I am not an auto mechanic but this figure does not add-up. I am an educated person with two masters degrees, so my understanding and calculations tells me there's something wrong, so I contacted (Pep Boys) for an answer and was contacted by store's service manager, Miguel, and spoke with him on 05/13/2015. His attempted explanations are complete BS, thinking I would not understand the technology and catch his lies. He gave me several reasons... 1. That my calculation is wrong because based on his research from Chrysler people, that it is recommended to get oil changed every 7,000 miles, therefore my calculation of 6050 total miles are close to next oil change at 7,000 miles and I'm wrong... which I debunked with fact that my car, 2014 Jeep Cherokee will last 7,000 plus miles on conventional oil (standard mixture of conventional and synthetic oil) and the FACT that the oil life indication does not calculate the actual miles from last oil change but measures the actual condition of oil, and calculates the life of oil. With full synthetic, I would get higher miles than normal 7,000 miles, so he moved on to next BS. 2. The oil life depends on how I drive, which I explained my driving habit (I do not have trailer to hull or heaving items to pull - or drive excessively which he tried to make it sound I did regularly), so he moved on to next BS. 3. The change in weather temperature could change the conditions of the oil (yes, I live in AZ) but I debunked him again about the properties of synthetic oil to my knowledge (from Pennzoil website - "Excellent Performance in Extreme Temperatures: Provides faster low temperature oil flow and protects in extreme heat.")... so he moved on to next BS. 4. That he contacted Chrysler people and was told 2014 Jeep Cherokee requires full synthetic oil and that my last oil change was wrong kind and affected my engine. I hung up and checked my owner's manual, checked the internet, and called Jeep service center, which debunked him. I called back and told him the facts, so he moved on to next BS. 5. Since my car is not new and driven for sometimes, it is expected to get lower miles even with full synthetic oil. My car is 2014 (I bought the car on April 7th of 2014, with approximately 12K plus miles on it as today). I called out on his entire BS and told him to stick with one lie and his response was "So, what do you want? Refund?" At this point, I just hung up. They will lie and treats people as stupid. I do not want their refund. I'm done with Pep Boys. read more

Terrible service. Bought a belt from them, and they gave me the wrong one. Another incident, I took in my car for a diagnostic when it would not start, and it took them two days for me to get my car back while constantly giving me the runaround every time I would call, including being put on hold for a half an hour. Could list more examples, but do yourself a favor and just find another shop. read more

I went to this pep boys a couple of weeks ago to get my ac checked which was supposed to be $35, but they tried to charge me $49 until I told them that I was told $35. For that $35, I was told that basically every thing was wrong with my ac and that it would cost me $2,400 to fix it. Really? I was previously told by another auto mechanic that it was the blower that was broken, which the mechanic was suppose to fix for me but he had moved out of state before he had a chance to fix it. After I left pep boys, a friend of mine gave me the name of another mechanic to take my car to look at ac. The mechanic said the only thing wrong with the ac was the blower, which I was previously told by the mechanic who moved out of state. With parts and labor, it cost me $210 to have the ac fixed. Now I have nice cold ac and it didn't cost me $2,400 like pep boys wanted to charge me! I will never go to another pep boys ever again! read more

I wish I could give a negative star rating... Car: Pep Boys created problem / power steering fluid saturated Hoses were put backwards electric connector wasn't plugged in. Replace leak detection pump. I took my car to Pep Boys in Mid Town. I had an issue with the power steering and thought one of the brakes may be bad. They said I needed all new brakes, and new seals for the power steering. After they had it for a day and a half, they told me it was ready. I went in, paid $1600. When I got in and started it, the engine light was on. It wasn't on when I dropped it off. They turned it off and said it was probably not reset. I drove it home and the engine light came back on. I took it back, telling them that the engine light had not been on before I brought it to them the first time. They said they would check to see if it had anything to do with the work they had done. I also said the brakes had a jerking feeling. After looking my car over they said it wasn't anything they did but that my car needed possibly another $1000. of work and may or may not take care of the engine light. But it would be a start. They did grind the new brakes saying you usually have to do that as there are ridges. I took my car to another mechanic, recommended by a few friends. They kept my car for the morning to see what could be causing the problem. When they called me, they said the issue was 100% created by work done at Pep Boys, emailing me: "Inspection found.Leak detection pump was soaked with power steering fluid from removing the rack and pinion unit.When pump was reinstalled the hoses were backwards.Tech had to remove the pump for steering job.Also oil filter was leaking oil.Not positive if the filter is defective." I paid another $370. to fix what Pep Boys had done. This was my experience and I won't be back. read more

I came in needing my tires balanced and rotated to the 4491 E. Speedway location in Tucson. I have been to this location several times and won't be going back. Each time I am there, a very rude man who seems to be a manager named Jim is there. He treats the mechanics horribly in front of customers. He makes rude comments to them. I heard him tell one of the mechanics "See? changing tires is like riding a bike! But we will leave the heavy ones to the younger guys" and he rolled his eyes as he walked off. I assume this was a new employee he was speaking to. He has also been rude to me as well as mis quoting tire prices. I always have to wait when there seems to be no other cars in the empty bays. I feel sorry for the guys who have to work there. Also, I want to add, that the restrooms are beyond filthy. read more

New standard for customer service set by a gentleman named Lance. I have worked in a customer service capacity since I was 15 and encountered many different types of customer service representatives as well. I have seen good things and bad things, great things and pretty bad things, but my visit to Pep boys on Speedway Blvd with my wife last night certainly raised the bar of customer service. Lance went above and beyond assisting my wife, who had to get 4 tires changed plus an oil change. He ending up finding a way to save us some money and he even gave us a direct number to reach him personally if we were to get stuck in the middle of nowhere. Wow! What else can I say about this guy. Putting into words what we witnessed doesn't do it justice you kind of had to be there for yourself. So next time you need any type of work done to your car I would highly recommend you give Lance a visit, you won't be disappointed. read more

would give zero if possible but cannot. dont waste your time here. i needed a part installed and i had it almost installed myself but reached the point beyond my ability and needed a lift so instead to save myself time i didassembled my work and went to pep boys. after a little less than an hour they returned saying that the part would not fit and could not fit. sadly i was watching the whole time and watched the tec barely take my car apart and no parts were "fitted" to the car. the annoying part is that when i was taken to the tec and when talking his additude was pisspoor and they diddnt seem to soak the reality that i had already done it and just needed help further. truth be told if they had stepped aside and let me "rent" lift space i would have been in and out in an hour. but no instead the incompetent tec lied to my face about how it would not fit. monkeys with a wrench are not techs. no money was exchanged so all i can say is dont waste your time. UPDATE 3/27/13: Took my car to a competitive shop down the street and for the same quoted price my car was fixed and out of there in less than an hour. i have zero confidence in pep boys and zero respect for them anymore read more

NEVER go this place! I repeat "NEVER NEVER go this place"! I had to bring my vehicle to fix some issues with the suspension and they ripped me off for the parts. They charged the part three times more than market price. After I found out that I was so furious. Never trust this place and find somewhere else. My first visit and never again. Got an oil change and they tried to tell me stuff I needed that I knew I didn't need done because I had record of it done recently. Then they gave an oil change but didn't put the air filter in the right way and they didn't secure it with the clamps. Just left it that way. I know most mechanics are scam artists but this was just a stupid mistake that even a 12 year old could do right. Good thing I know better to trust a place like this read more

If you make an appointment online for an oil change, you can supposedly print out a coupon to get it for $19.99. The coupon never appeared, but I printed out their e-mail confirmation of my appointment and, even though it took some cash-register finagling by the manager, they honored that price. The oil change was done quickly, and the Pep Boys at this location are extraordinarily nice. read more

Came in with an issue concerning my dash board lights. After driving to and spending a lot of time at O'Reilly Auto Parts and Radio Shack where the Service guys were great yet could not find the Battery Fuse Box in my NIssan (unfortunately the manual that came with the car did not provide that information), I called this Pep Boys on Speedway. They could not help me over the phone and asked that I bring my car in, so as soon as I got there Andrew went to work on scouting out this particular battery fuse box. It took a lot of time, and was made more challenging in the middle of the afternoon in the extreme AZ Summer heat with the sun blasting down big time. Andrew finally found the fuse box. I am grateful to his hard work and care. And since Pep Boys didn't have the right size fuse they did not charge me for the service. So back to O'Reilly I went, and was glad Andrew showed me how to install the fuse on my own! I appreciate Andrew's excellent costumer service and knowledge. read more

I don't usually like chains, but I purchased an auto battery here a few years ago when I had to. Recently, the battery began to fail. I couldn't find my receipt, but Pep Boys had a record of my purchase. My battery was fully warranted - but only two months left on the warranty. They replaced it, charged a small installation fee ($15), and I got a new battery for free - under warranty, but without having to provide my receipt, which would have been troublesome. Miguel and Nui were nice, as were the guys who ran the tests, confirmed the bad battery, and installed it. I did not have an appointment, but went to dinner across the street while they worked on other cars ahead of me and got to me. Pretty reasonable, all in all. read more

A few friends and I were driving from El Paso to Scottsdale for Memorial Day when unexpectedly our car was beginning to stall and would not start. After going to AutoZone, we were told that it was our Mass Air Sensor. They told us they didn't have the part and to call PepBoys. Long story short, the first PepBoys we went to gave us the wrong part but sent us to this location to get the right one. Well, once we got there we were told that not only did they not have the part but no other locations (or competing stores) had it either. We didn't know what to do and were planning on leaving out car over the weekend and just renting a car. It wasn't until the manager (a female lady with short hair) told the guys they should try cleaning it and making sure it wasn't just buildup. Luckily, that worked and saved us $130, a rental, and a ruined vacation. We were very fortunate that she decided to take that extra step when no one else was. When they ran the test after cleaning it everything came back fine! 2 hours later after driving (and walking) from different locations, we were finally able to hit the road and enjoy our vacation! read more

I'm totally dissatisfied with the customer service at this store. We called yesterday to see if we could get our tire fixed because it had a small nail it, the representative yes of course just bring your vehicle in tomorrow and we'll fix it. So, I bring in my vehicle, a pepboy representative and I walkout to look at the tire, mind you, the tire tread depth are good and where the small nail and I mean small nail was, which was in the center of the tire. He immediately tells me that he can fix it, I wish I got this person's name because he was down right being lazy. So, I took my business to another pepboys store to see if they could fix it, and guess what, they where more than happy to fix it for me. I will never recommend the pepboys on Speedway to anyone. These guys are not only the biggest rip off store in town but they really need to educate their staff on being professional and courteous to their customers. From my experience, the person that I delt with was just down right lazy. Negative zero stars from me. read more

Worst place ever!!!! Never go there no matter what anyone tells you. One of my bearings was messed up. My boyfriend and I scheduled a 9am appointment with them. First one of the day. They tell us it will be about 30-45 mins. 2 hours later we are still there. They finally give us the keys. We go to leave and the car is rattling and grinding something awful. So we go back in. I am now late to an appointment. My boyfriend gets them to give me a ride and he stays there. More than 6 hours later and they are still are not done fixing my car. They tell him they can't fix it and they will try again tomorrow so we have to go get a rental car. The next day they take ALL DAY LONG to fix the car; it wasn't ready until about 3-4pm in the afternoon. Then when we go the manager doesn't even have the decency to come up and apologize; in fact none of them apologized for the inconvenience. They were incredibly short and evasive with us and didn't want to give us any information. If I could give zero stars I would because it was that awful. AWFUL PLACE!!! Never go there!!!! read more

Wonderful service. Called around to find best prices on a part with installation, which they had, so I went in even though I'd only purchased parts in the store without ever using the services before today. My part had come in two days early and they called me and got it placed that day without an appointment or any hassle because they knew I wanted needed to leave town ASAP and was waiting for the part. It took over an hour longer than expected to install (I guess my car isn't a typical car and the part isn't installed like usual or something) but they definitely didn't charge me more for the extra work. I also asked them to do another service which they fit in the same day too. When they gave me the final bill, it was more than what had been quoted when I dropped the car off...I asked why and when they couldn't quite figure it out, not only did they honor the original price, but the final amount I paid was actually LESS than what I had originally been quoted. And again, the original quote was already lower than the price quoted at 3 other places in town for the part + installation. I will be happily on my way out of town sooner rather than later thanks to this Pep Boys! read more
