CAlled ahead to see if there was availability, when called they said yes I came in waited a while because another customer was being helped understandable They said it was going to be 2 hours for my headlight repair which I was totally fine with, everything would've been better if there was any communication at all with me. 2 hours rolled by I thought maybe it was just busy so I didn't mind and then another hour rolled by no call no nothing so I decided to call and see what was up they said it would take more time and more money and that it took an hour and a half to take the front bumper off and that's what was done at that point they said they were going to call but just didn't get around to it. Communication is key to customer service! No thanks pep boys went to another mechanic who was able to change the light bulb without having to take of the whole front end and CHECKED my tires and told me that yes 2 do need to be replaced they rotated them for me and said the other 2 tires were fine so basically you just didn't have the time don't tell people to come in the f you don't have the time that'll be less complaint for you and better quality service read more

This Pep Boys is staffed by unsupervised monkeys. The clerk said, "someone will be right with you," took 4 or 5 phone calls, farted around with some paperwork, and then, when I challenged him about the definition of "right with you," after waiting 25 minutes to be helped with no one else in the store, HE was the someone! Thanks, ass! Says it'll be 1.5 - 2 hours. At this point, another customer wanders in looking like he's been sitting in an oven (it's 97 degrees this day), pink and glistening with sweat, and asks after his car. "You said it would be 1 1/2 to 2 hours, but I've been here for 2 hours now, and my car is still out on the lot." Ass responds that the waiting period is actually 3-4 hours. I ask Ass how he could quote me 1 1/2 to 2 hours when this man's car is clearly not going to be finished in that amount of time, and he says, "Yeah, it'll probably be more like 3 or 4 hours." Not wanting to sit around from 3pm - 7pm in the heat, I ask if they're open on the weekend, and if they take appointments. "Sure, we open at 9am...I can put you down for 9am appointment." Well, good. So I arrive exactly at 9am, and after waiting in line for 25 minutes (there are eight cars in queue in the bays), I'm told it'll be 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I say, "Oh, but see, I had an appointment at 9am!" They say, "1 1/2 to 2 hours." You may be just fine going here if you don't mind lowering your standards in customer service. Yesterday, we went there just after 10am. The place was empty and we were helped right away. Everyone seemed very friendly. All we needed were two front tires and an oil change. The service rep. let us know that it would be from 1 1/2 - no more than 2 hours and he would call us on our cell phone. We let him know that we would be awaiting his call because we didn't have a whole lot of time to spare that particular day. He assured us we would be fine. So my family (2 little ones, my hubby & I) walked around the plaza for 2 1/2 hours. When we returned to check on our vehicle, the guy who initially helped us got another rep. saying in such a rude manner, "I'm too busy. You need to just help them". Come to find out, they never even started on the car. No apology... just something along the lines of: What can I say? We're short staffed today. So we had our car pulled out and the mechanics in the garage started making jokes about us, like... dang, guess they can't hang? What the heck?!? This was our first & last visit there. read more

Picture, if you will, a crowded automotive store at 5 PM. 5 people congregate about, waiting to be helped. One person is currently discussing with the clerk while the others throw around vacant stares, avoiding each other's eyes. Five minutes go by. The clerk has gone back to the shop to talk with one of the mechanics. They talk for a while and the clerk disappears somewhere. Another ten minutes go by. The clerk finally comes back and asks the person (the same one that's been helped for the last 20 minutes) to fill out a form. All the while, the clerk goes back to shoot the shit with the mechanic. He comes back 10 minutes later, looks over the completed form, has the customer sign a copy and be on his merry way and calls next. Only 3 more customers before me... I should be outta here by 7 PM, I think. Yeah... hhmmmm.... Here's an idea, Pep Boys: HIRE MORE COMPETENT FUCKING CLERKS, YOU IDIOTS! So the good news is that I've recovered my yelp password and there's wifi. And power if you can sit at one of the 3 barstools in the waiting area. But.... I'm in my ninth hour of waiting here at the store. Yep, 9 hours. I pre-ordered tires online and made an 8am appointment, and left home at 7 to get there on time. 7:50 - I was in line 20 minutes.. from 10 mins before until 10 mins after the appointment was supposed to start. First the guy 'helping' me misheard my name and argued with me that I didn't have an appointment - that the interwebs lost my info somehow. But my name was on the printed paper in front of both of us. And that's just the beginning... 8:10 - Just after 8, I requested the tires installed/aligned, an oil change, and a brake inspection. 10:00, I got a call with the results and OK'd the brake work, front and rear. They said the only thing remaining was the brake work and alignment, and estimated 2 additional hours. Noon. And this call was the last time anyone reached out to me. Not in the waiting area. Not on the phone. 10:30, I walked to the theater and saw the 2016 Star Trek offering and it was pretty good, all things considered :-) 12:30, still hadn't heard anything so I walked back to the store (remember I'm an hour from home and walking around). 1:30 - an hour and a half after the expected time, I returned to the counter and was told that the brake pads for one pair were the wrong components. And that it would be a couple of hours more - at most - from 'when the hardware gets here'. And that there was no guarantee when the hardware would arrive. From the store 'down the street'. And that there was no guarantee of a repair timing and they didn't want to ballpark - despite the fact that I'd been given estimates earlier. Twice. And this is when I started asking whether I'd have a car by the end of the day. Yes, I've been assured. It's ten til 5. I peek out into the bays and the car is up, the rear tires are still off, someone looks to be inspecting one of the rotors. So at least the alignment left, even if the brake work is pretty much done. Which I don't think it is. Haha, Robert L's review just showed up from 4 months ago in the right column of this page as I write mine. His experience is almost Identical except that: a. he's not waiting here b. his original appointment was 3 hours later in the day We'll see if something miraculously saves this review, but considering that I'm prob going to end up dropping just short of $1000 here today, and I've been a familiar face in the waiting area that is separated from the staff stations only by glass, for 9 hours, and no one has proactively contacted me in the last 7, probably no. Just no. 5:30, I approach the counter again and ask about my car. Apparently it's done. The guy who rang me out said sorry for the wait - after I told him about it - but that car repair estimates were difficult and precarious at best. Nope. Not buying it. I should have been called when it was known that the parts were mis-ordered or missing or wtf ever, rather than them waiting for me to show up well after they said all the work would be done - and them not having even started the brake work. It was about $820. Thing is, I came here after having great experiences with Pep Boys - in Florida with my son's truck, and again in Florida and Arizona on a cross country roadtrip. tl;dr 11.5 hours and 800+ dollars. I've had my oil changed here before as well as new tires. The price is always right here, and the service was good on previous visits; however, today, October 30th, 2016, there was a problem worth mentioning. First, I called Thursday to make an appointment because I despise waiting, and the person on the phone gave me an appointment for 8:00 am. This store doesn't open until 9 am on Sundays, which I didn't discover until I arrived at 7:30 am. Seeing I was in for a wait, I retreated to IHOP for breakfast, then went back to Pep Boys at 8:45 and waited outside, in the cold, until about 9:15. Plenty of workers showed up but no manager to open the store, so I left to get an oil change elsewhere. I paid $50 more than I would have at Pep Boys, but it was worth it to be able to wait in my car and it only took 20 minutes from start to finish. While waiting for my oil change, I wrote this review and remained on the perpetual hold cycle on Pep Boys' phone system until 9:36, when they finally answered. I canceled my appointment that they made for 1 hour BEFORE opening time and explained why. The person on the phone didn't even try to make it right, just canceled my appointment and told me to have a nice day. read more

I used to work at a Pep Boys when I was in High School (many, many, many moons ago). Back then, you had to know something about cars, parts and how to count. You had to pass an ASE written exam to work at the parts counter. You had to know how to operate a cash register if a sku wouldn't read. You had to know how to take paper money and give correct change. Now get off my lawn! But seriously, I heard that recently Pep Boys closed a lot of their outlets and completely re-vamped their business model and "updated" the surviving stores. While I can see an improvement in some areas, I have seen some serious weaknesses in others. At least at this Vallejo location. The performance parts (hot rod) area is probably the best you are going to find in a chain. They blow the doors off of Autozone and Kragen, or whatever Kragen is calling itself these days. It by no means is Summit or Jegs or even Vic Hubbard or Monument. But, they have some quality stuff. Especially, if you have a SB Chevy. You won't have to worry about staff bothering you while you shop if you like to be left alone. The down side of this is you won't be able to find a staff member when you are ready to check out, either. And God help you if they can't get a bar code to scan. If you need to get a replacement part, go in there already knowing the part number or exactly what you are looking for. The parts department is completely clueless. I'm not holding them totally accountable for this. It's managements responsibility to ensure that their staff is, at least somewhat, trained. The staff I have encountered here is trained to pull an item off a shelf, or scan an item. That's about it. Don't ask for an opinion or advise. EVER! You've been warned. They sell a lot of trashy crap to stick on your car or on the wall of your "man cave" or whatever. I guess that was the big re-vamp. They have a beverage cooler at the counter, but it never has any beverages in it. Except Coke Zero. I wouldn't bring an enemies car to Pep Boys for service. Their rates are criminal. There are a thousand independent mechanics in the Bay Area that could service your car better and cheaper than Pep Boys. Probably faster, too. I just literallywalked out of Pep Boys. I came in to get my oil change & little did I know, I just whitnessed nothing but HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! 1. I called in advance and I was on hold for 15 min. To find out the girl that was taking calls did the same to everyone else. She would put you on hold, look at papers, walk to the garage, look at papers & walked around until they hung up. JERK! 2. Another worker was on his iPhone while talking to a customer. 3. I arrived at the counter, and while there were 3 attendants there, they completely ignored me. I asked "Excuse me?" about two times before they gave me the time of day. I was the only customer in line, and they acted as if I inconvenienced them by asking for assistance. The workers were entirely uninterested, slow, and rude. When I finally got them to help me out and it was time to pay, they sent me to another line to pay for my service. I had paid at the counter before and asked why they couldn't just ring me up there, and they didn't respond. I had to wait a long time at the other register, and I asked the guy why they sent me here instead of the counter where I normally get rung up, and VERBATIM, the cashier said "Oh they can ring you up there, sometimes they're just lazy." Ok, I have been to Pep Boys Vallejo a few times, and I have been satisfied of the services. This time I schedule an oil change. Nothing very complicated .. an oil change. I schedule it a Friday, at 7pm because my week was very busy and I couldn't go before. I book my appointment on the Thursday, the day before. On the Friday, I manage to finish work earlier, and decide to give a chance, and arrive at 5:30 Pm ... just in case .. Arrived there, one of the employees at the reception tells me : Oh ... we are sorry, we can't do your oil change today, our oil container is full since last Wednesday and won't be emptied before next week ... Call back next week.... !! What ? Nobody didn't even care to call or send me an email ? They even let me take the appointment knowing it wasn't possible to perform the service .. It's not like I had something else to do on that Friday night .. but instead of sitting in the traffic to go there, I could have done something else ... like ... GETTING AN OIL CHANGE SOMEWHERE ELSE. But ... anyway .. the guy at reception sees I'm a little angry as I came there for nothing and nobody ever took the time to cancel ... He's like : "Oh, but if you go now to Concord, they will have time to do it now, because they don't have much work there" ... Ok ... so ... I drive to Concord, (25 min) ... and arrived there, of course, the shop is full and the guy at the reception (who really tried to be nice) says : I'm so sorry, I have so much work tonight, but we could do it as now you are there, around 9PM (As normally they were closed). I decided to delay and take an appointment another day (and somewhere else!). I'm sorry guys, but this isn't professional at all ... I wen't to get my old changed at "Oil Changers" .. no appointment necessary, service done in 20 min ... 5 Starts because of my experience. Needed new tires, had my eyes set on the special (get four tires, with install and get 30% off) Spoke to JR, he recommended I get Michelin, he explained about the warranty and helped me to get them just for a bit more. I was thrilled. Got a next day appointment, these I assume do not quite work on time depending on the amount of work. Dropped off car, then left. I remember I left my laptop in the car, called the store and told JR. He assured me not to worry, that the techs were straight. Come to get my car, check the trunk. Laptop was missing, go home and check it isn't there. I was certain it was not at work. Go back to the store and yell at the manager on duty (think his name was Eric) He kept telling me that his techs did not take it, but i refused to believe it. Later in the day, I realized I forgot it at work. I felt ashamed, yet the manager was very patient with me. But they were right, they performed an amazing job and I am satisfied. They've made a lounge for customers like me to sleep in. I was knocked the fuck out. They took all day to oil change and check the breaks on my mother's toyota highlander. The next day the engine light came on after they've changed the oil. My dad regularly changes the oil on her car, but she decided to have it done here too. What a mistake! Bunch of thieves and liars! I had to get 4 new tires for my All wheel drive and 1. they took 4 hours to do the job which was promised to me to be done within 1.5-2 hours. 1. I had customized valve caps for my tires and they stole hem and later gave me plastic caps. When asked, they lied on my face saying there were only 2 of them and they threw them away in the trash and I might be lying to say there were all four! 2. While giving me the quotation they told 4 tires for the price of 3. But while billing they said only $100 is off and the sales person messed up! 4. They put scratches in my Rim in all 4 of them. I set up an appointment to have a tire changed to a new rim and was scheduled for 1pm but when I arrived (on time) I was told it would be 2-3 hours before my car would be done (20 min job). I asked why the delay and was told that the shop was understaffed due to mechanics having quit. If this was the first time this had happened I wouldn't have bothered with a post but this is a consistent issue. Why make an appointment and take time out of your day if they can't honor the time slot? I don't know what Pep Boys needs to do to keep its employees but they need to figure something out. read more

They took care of me and my car really well. They were genuinely concerned about my safety when talking about the condition of my car and they empathized when it came to budgeting the price. They assisted in any way they could, especially when it came to me and my amateurish questions. They had a sense of humor and joked around with me and my friends. They made sure to work efficiently even though I came in so last minute, they accommodated me. The manager was definitely the leader of the pack. I'm pretty sure his name is Clark. Highly recommend this place! I see the negative comments about this location too but I guess my disclaimer to that would be that my experience was based on the service of a few people working at the specific time of the specific day that I came in. I don't know all the employees but I would understand why a bad egg would affect your views. But again, ask for Clark. That's a sure deal :) read more

I had purchased tires online and made sure that I clicked available in store to have them installed at this location. When I came into my appointment, the tires were not in stock and was told that they can order them for me and shipped the following day if the tires I wanted were even still available. I asked what else they had in stock that was comparable in price to what I originally wanted. I was printed another option that was $200 more than what I wanted to pay in price. What a waste of time. And to top it off, whomever helped me did not even apologize for the store's inconvenience. Horrible customer service and a horrible business. Car repairs are never pleasant. And no one likes to wait while their car is being repaired. It means we're stuck. Sitting in the waiting room staring at the wall. Thank heavens this particular store sits in the middle of a ton of shopping and a movie theater! The staff at Pep Boys have a tough job. No, they aren't the dealership. But, with dealers ripping off consumers left and right and hoping that you'll buy a new car instead of fixing your old car that wasn't manufactured properly in the first place, it leaves the consumer without many choices and we end up taking our anger out on the verbally abused staff at Pep Boys. Yes, cars are expensive to maintain. Yes, it takes time. Its not their fault your car is broken. There are things they can fix. And then there are things you just have to suck up and go back to the dealer for. And then once the dealer tells you how much its going to cost to repair, you might just want to pack it up and head back on over to Pep Boys and ask them to fix it. That's what happened to me.....TWICE. And Pep Boys just saved me $200 the first time and $3000 the second time. Even though they couldn't fix it Chris was able to take care of me and even waved the fee for it. Paul was able to take care of me also while Chris was on the phone. The Filipino guy at the service parts desk (working between 1230-1250 as i was there) couldn't even answer a simple question, and he works there! Wtf! I did not read the reviews before coming here. I came in simply for some tires, the service cashier Ahmad gave me a quote of $492 for my set of tires but after ringing it up it was the correct amount that I calculated as $470, not sure what he saw. Another service tech named Greg came out while they were servicing my vehicle and told me small things needed to be replaced with prices and that was very helpful that they gave me that information. They finished their work and the service techs were all very nice. I didn't see that my vehicle was done, I'm sure I didn't give them enough time to let me know as they were busy. As for my visit today, I had a good experience. My only gripe about the place was with a quick glance I couldn't find something extra I wanted to purchase, oh well it was only a quick glance. read more

I won't do business with them again. They seem to be more now about making money than about customer service since their remodel. They're long wait times to answer their phones is uncalled for. They never have more than two people behind the counter. And you can forget about trying to get techs to work even 5 mins over time. If your vehicle is in the air and they go off the clock, they are going off the clock. You're out of luck. Try some where else before here. Something happen when they remodeled. Complete Amateur Hour. Worst Experience Ever. Needed 3 basics tasks done to GMC Truck. Air Charged, Tune-up, & Back Brakes. Called, made appointment for Thursday @ 6pm. Waited over an hour to be told, Can't look today. Told sorry, please make another appointment for 12pm Friday. Drop off at Noon Friday, told to leave it with them. Says they'll call in an hour or so with the estimate. I Did want an estimate because at the counter he told me to think about 3,000. dollars and they could keep our truck for maybe 5 Days!!! Really?? Even though I thought that was crazy, I said ok, call me with the estimate. Got first call at 1:30 to say Nothing, does not have an estimate yet. OK. Get second call at 3pm to say Nothing again. They don't have time to look at it and I should come back for a 3rd appointment next Tuesday. Then MAYBE they can give me the time of day. F-OFF PEP BOYS. Side note: Their phone system rings off the hook, I was disconnected 2 times while trying to get a human. He let me know about everything that was done with my car & the price was a lot cheaper than if I would have brought it into the dealership. Excellent customer service. Being from Oregon my wife had tire problems and stopped here. The sent her away telling her that no one can't fix it and she must buy a new one. They then left her standing there with no help. The PepBoys team were fantastic. They got me checked around 10:30am for my tube up, advised me about the wait time, then I also needed windshield wiper and another guy in the front came to help me before I even had to go looking for someone. They were attentive to the customers. I thought the wait itself would be long but it was just long enough to go eat and another appt and when I got back around 12:30pm my car was already done and waiting for me. The wait was not actually that long. Good job PepBoys for the attentiveness, professionalism and time management for getting my car done in a timely manner. read more

I'm doing a review for advice inside the store. The story seems to be different for the outdoor services. I looked for parts for a major maintenance. The store is pretty big and stocked for every part that I needed, with separate catalogs at each section. The shining feature this visit that earned the five stars is the lady Parts & Advice desk. Sucks I already forgot her name, but she was friendly and knowledgeable, and showed everything on screen what was found and available. I had questions about transmission parts, and she clarified what was needed, and went further to offer tips abour maintenance, offering advice from experience on issues with working with people not in a shop, and ways to get lists for free online and from the dealerships for the appropriate parts for easy reference. We Came in a few days ago to get two tires mounted and balanced as we had two flat tires early this morning so we were not able to bring in the car only the two flat tires ! I scheduled on line early in the morning and made a 330 appointment! The wait was ridiculous! I had to several times go to the counter and kindly remind the guy that my tires have been sitting there since I left them around 315 pm as my appointment was 330 pm ! The guy let us know repeatedly that it was a busy day ! I noticed several customers come in after us and they immediately got there cars brought into the shop and tires put on there car! I felt very frustrated seeing this happen several times while I was waiting to get my tires done ! I wanted to say then maybe you shouldn't over book when your that busy ! While waiting I seen a employee smoke two cigarettes inside the shop - standing around doing absolutely nothing and of course NO mask on !!!! I do not recommend this place at all ! During this time of covid customer service is most important to me and next time I'll take my business somewhere else ! Again I do not recommend this place at all ! read more

I made an appointment and was told my oil change would be completed in about an hour. I left and came back in an hour and they didn't even start my oil change. When I asked why I was told that they were understaffed. I asked why they accepted my appointment and was told my oil change would be done in an hour. The response was they were doing the best they can. I wasted more than 2 hours at the Vallejo facility and still didn't get an oil change. I definitely wouldn't recommend this business. read more

Okay, let us start with some of the basic things mechanics are suppose to do. 1. Quote you correctly. 2. Fix your car. 3. Make sure you do not have to return anytime soon. Guess what this place doesn't do? All of the above. This is what pep boys will do. 1. Improperly quote you 2. Damage your car with their inexperienced mechanics. 3. Make sure you have to come back and juice you for money. Avoid this place like the plague. Tell your family to avoid it like the plague. In fact, let's all get together and boycott this place. My experience with them was as follows; I went in because of an accident and they were suppose to replace a basic tire. That went from replacing one tire to replacing a whole axle, then two axles, then they destroyed one of the lug bolts connecting the axle to it. The total estimate was 1600 dollars. (when insurance coverage it came out to over 2300). I had two lights on my dashboard on afterward which they said if they wanted me to have it fixed they would charge me more. The next experience was for a BASIC OIL CHANGE. That was it. Now, my check engine light is on after two week period. TWO WEEKS! Please, don't come here. Don't even think about it. RUN. read more
