The same day the car pulled to the right the next day the low tire pressure sign came on. Now I have a warranty and the tire went flat and I had to call AAA to put air in so I could bring the car back to Pep Boys. After 2 hours of waiting they try to charge me for tire repair. Oh wait the tire can not be repaired, then why did you just try to charge me a repair fee. So I guess we have to buy another tire because this tire has been discontinued. What the ###%% did I get the warranty for. Oh my choices put the damaged beyond repair tire back on, wait three to 5 days for a tire to be sent over from another place. (Which they would charge a replacement fee). Or buy a different tire for 10% off. NO NO NO THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. read more

I came here last week cuz I needed to get a tire replaced. When I went up to the counter to talk to the employee, some mexican guy with a hipster mustache who claimed to be the manager I forgot his name I'm pissed about that it might been ringo or something like that but idk it was probably a fake name that he gave me anyway cuz I never heard of a mexican dude named Ringo. Anyways, Ringo just finished up with another customer and was just entering some information into the computer. I stood there for a few minutes and after he didn't acknowledge me I said "excuse me can I get some service?" he then said "sure in a minute" and went back to entering his "information" into the computer. I stood there for 15 MINUTES right in front of him while he just entered stuff into the computer, I thought this was really rude I mean I'm a paying customer I'm there to get some service and he's making me wait while he does whatever he should be doing when there isn't a customer present. After a while I don't even think he was entering in information at one point he was just mindlessly pressing the return button over and over, was this foo on some drugs or something? anyway another employee walks up to him and says he needs help with something and the guy starts walking to the garage still not even acknowledging me. at this point I was furious I yelled "hey were are you going? I need service here!" he goes in to the back anyway and comes back really mad. and says in a very angry sarcastic tone "sorry about that I was doing some paperwork" I said "I know but you said you would be a minute and you took 15" then he changed the subject and started asking what I needed and entering in my information I could see his fingers shaking while he was entering in the information like he was holding back his anger or somethin. he then said he would change it for me and it would be about a half hour. I know what you're thinking: why didn't I just leave? I was already there and needed to get my tire replaced since it was flat I couldn't really go anywhere. anyway, I get a call from him an hour later and he says he can't help me because it was the wrong type of tire and he didn't have the one I needed for my Honda Fit. WTF? why didn't Ringo tell me that before? he just wasted an hour of my time. I will never come back here. My recommendation: go to the costco next door for your tires they have better prices and service. read more

BEWARE!!!!! If you are planning to get new tires here, and you order them ahead of time and set up an appointment, it will still take 60-90 minutes to install them, even if there is known ahead of you. Also, and maybe even a bigger warning, just because you picked your tires and made a cc commitment to buy them online, they may not have them available for you when you arrive. After waiting in a dirty and stinky waiting area for 35 minutes, I was informed that they did not have the tires I ordered and it would take his guy an hour to go from Van Nuys to downtown and back to get them. Unfortunately, my schedule could not allow for another 2 hours of waiting around so I had to cancel the order. Although the manager & mechanic were very nice about this unfortunate situation, there is obviously a disconnect between the online process and the local stores. If I were you, I'd avoid Pep Boys all together. read more

Horrible Service. Tried to up-charge me, twice! We agreed on semi-synthetic oil change and I had a bad feeling so I went to check on my car and I asked the service guy what oil he was going to use. He said high mileage. Then they tried to tell me if I wanted semi synthetic that I had to pay extra but I was already paying the higher fee. Definitely trying to take advantage of the fact that I look young and probably didn't know how much oil changes cost. I made an APPOINTMENT for 11am and came on time. The oil change took over an hour... they had my keys and paperwork waiting at the desk for a good 15 min (that I noticed). I was waiting at the front desk for someone to help check me out. Not one person offered to help me for 15 min. They all looked at me but NO HELP. Completely horrible. Worst of all I asked to speak to a manager and it turns out the manager was the one who was so called "helping" me. Don't waste your time or money here! I will never comeback this shop anymore. Martin charged me over $ 900 for the problem of my brake. I asked discount, he offered me $758. When I refused and took out the details it was only over$400. He even told me that my car was dangerous to drive. I called a tow truck to tow my car to another auto shop. Fire star auto shop charged me only $200. The master cylinder was fine, the brake fluid was still full in reversed of what the Pep boys guy stated in the printed details were wrong in my car. The only wrong of my car is the front brake that needed to change. I don't know if the management knows about the wrongdoings of their worker or workers. read more

I was giving this place a second chance because it's close to home, but nope. Never again. For the second time in a row, I made an appointment and had to wait an hour after my appointment time for them to even bring my car up. After the hour wait and me giving them the benefit of the doubt (because I know 30 minutes is an estimation) I go to the counter and ask if my car is done yet. The guy, Sal, told me he was finishing up right now, so I go sit down and wait to be called. ANOTHER HOUR PASSES and I'm still not called so I stand in line again. Sal tells me my car is ready and I ask how appointments work because clearly, I'm missing something. He tells me if they're behind it pushes everything behind. So basically appointments don't mean anything. He gives me a half-assed explanation "were a little behind today, sorry" I say, a little? I've been waiting for two hours. He looks at the clock and says "its only been an hour and 47 minutes." It really took everything in me to not say something back to him. The service is ALWAYS slow and rude at this location. Wow. That's all I can say. Just kidding: I was the only car at Pep Boys yesterday morning. That means that the 29 minute oil change was the ONLY thing these guys had to work on. So I'm wondering how it took over an hour. What it seems is that they wanted to fix a headlight or something (even though both are fine). So they marked it and put it in the hold for authorization bin. Except that I was sitting RIGHT THERE and no one ever came over to ask me anything or even let me know what the hell was going on. So I'm just sitting in the waiting area for an hour. No one bothers to tell me, they all just stand around. When I finally ask, the service is about what I expected. No eye contact. Slow typing. My truck was overheating and took it into this location. Uriel helped me out and was respectful and professional from the very beginning. Assured me he would take care of me and he did. It was a costly repair, my entire cooling system needed to be replaced, and he worked with me on the price of labor, and even found me a coupon to help me out with the cost. It ended up knocking 1/3 of the cost off my hefty bill. When I picked up the car, he showed me every part of my engine that needed to be replaced and why. As a consumer and Pep Boys customer, he made me feel confident in my decision to conduct business with them. The guy who works in Parts, Johnny, is skilled and knowledgeable and very good at his job. That dude knows some esoteric stuff. I have a 17-yr-old Toyota and he could pinpoint the issue and know exactly what it would take to fix with just a brief description. He even went so far as to show me how to fix it MYSELF. I bought the part, he came out to my car and showed me what to do, and I saved myself a visit to their service dept., which I'll save for the bigger issues, like brakes. Rodrigo helped with the break down of a price for a standard maintenance (oil change etc.), in addition mentioned I received a coupon in the mail, expired by a week by a week, and acknowledged the coupon. I as well requested if they could check the brakes, and interior maintenance (a patch on a slightly torn chair). He mentioned pricing for the brakes and free brake check but no interior design could be done. Great explanation, understanding and quick efficient service! Horrible service. I went in December because my car was making an odd noise. I was told my suspension needed to be fixed. Did it. Still making noise. Told that my lower control arm needed to be fixed... did it.... still making the same noise. Got pissed, spoke to the sales manager who didn't help one bit. Took my car to the dealer (paid a little more) walked out with my car like new.... AFTER THE DEALER FIXED MY IMPROPERLY PLACED SUSPENSION! Now my husband went, waited almost an HOUR to be sent HOME (even though they did close for another hour) then offered an appointment (because that's much better) all to place a stupid light bulb in his tail light. Went to jiffy lube and they helped him writhing 15 minutes. Not even complaining to corporate fixes the issues at this location just look at the reviews and the number of starts. I was looking for a shop to do my oil change as i was told it was an urgent matter. I pulled up to this location and was right outside from the service area. I called the store and was connected to Raul and explained I was right outside and would like an oil change done. I had called at 7:04 and he said the last service they take is at 7pm (even though they close at 9pm). As most people know it does not take long to change an oil in filter in a vehice. Raul was very churlish and i did not receive the courteous and professionalsim that i typically receive from all other locations. Avoid this location! read more

I had a terrible customer service experience and would encourage people to stay away from this location. I went to have a few things done, nothing major, including having them just take a look at my radio because it had been making a weird noise. After waiting over six hours to get my car back, I find that my radio's faceplate isn't working. I ended up going back SEVERAL times to find out what happened and whether they could fix what had happened while they were working on my car. It took my third time going there a week after this happened for them to tell me that a guy looked at it and found that the radio was done for. Except they didn't bother to tell me this the two times I went before to get an explanation. And the radio itself still worked, it was just that the faceplate wasn't responding. The worst part of all of this was that they were pretty much dicks about the whole thing, too, when it was obvious that they did something to it. Seriously, people. Don't go here. read more

For Pep Boys being such a big company, my expectation for customer service at a location was high, unfortunately the customer service that I experienced at this location was no where near what I thought it would be. On Sunday January 26, 2014, I called your Pep Boys location in Van Nuys on Sepulveda and spoke to a representative named Reyna. I advised her that we started working on a vehicle, but due to lack of tools, we needed to have the vehicle towed and finished at the location. I advised Reyna that we went to Pep Boys earlier that day and purchased parts to change a water pump and we just needed them to remove and put on the water pump we bought, I advised Reyna that it was for a 1993 Toyota Corolla, Reyna then quoted me the cost of $50 for towing and $195 to change the water pump. About 45 minutes later, EZ Towing came and picked up the vehicle and towed it to Pep Boys at 6110 Sepulveda Blvd. When we got to the facility, Reyna was there to assist us. She quickly advised that she misquoted me and that she gave me the price to replace a 2003 Toyota Corolla water pump. I advised that I did not have the new cost she was stating and that was $410. She said due to the inconvenience she would take the cost of towing out, which was $40 (originally quoted at $50) and give us 10% off the $410 price. She advised that the vehicle would be ready before 6 pm that evening. Later that day we received a call and was advised that the car would need to stay over night and we can pick it up on January 27, 2014. Today (1/27/14) at around 5:30 pm I went to pick up the vehicle and spoke with a rep. named Noe. He quoted me the price of $410.40. I advised that per Reyna and on the receipt given to me, it was 10% off. Noe advised that they could not give me the towing off and the 10% at which I replied that Reyna already misquoted me once, and now I was misquoted again. I advised I did not have more than $400 in my account and that I could not pay the total since that is not what was quoted to me. Acosta then started to assist and he too advised that they could not honor what Reyna quoted and then they contacted her on on the phone and she advised that I could not get the 10%. I then asked for a manager and was told Reyna is the manager and I can wait until tomorrow to speak to her. Then another Pep Boys employee approached Noe while he was trying to assist me and I asked if he leave Noe alone so that there are no more errors, at which point the employee said "this is between him and me" to which I replied "I am the customer, it's right now about him and I". In the end, I got my 10% off and the towing free. Something that was offered to me in the first place and I had to deal with inconsistent information, horrible customer service and disrespect from the employees and I still got what was originally offered to me, why did I have to go through the stress, drama and now taking time to share the my unfortunate experience. The lack of service and respect to your customers is unprofessional and honestly surprising from a company that supposedly has be "trusted" since 1921. I will never use your services again. I understand that to you one customer not using your service may not be a big deal, but if you have any pride in this business and in your services, I hope that some kind of repercussion occurs to these employees for the incorrect information and lack of seriousness of the matter. The way I was treated was inappropriate and if that is how you run your business, I want nothing to do with it. read more

I couldn't believe the level or UN-professionalism I was treated with by the gentleman (not sure I should even cal him that), MARTIN, that was "helping"me. He was so rude that I asked him "are you okay?". I mean I get it, your not a morning person, or a customer service person, but his attitude was unacceptable. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this, or any Pep Boys locations. There's too many competitors that will treat customers with dignity and respect. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I took my car (99 Honda Civic) to Pep Boys although silly me because the Pep Boys in Panorama City backed my car into another customers car and then went back on their word about promising to fix it, but thats for another review I suppose. So I took my car in because I was desperate to fix my car after the engine light had popped on for a second time. Pep Boys being a "reputable" name I took my chances, especially since I drive further out to work now. Basically after them doing an overpriced diagnosis they concluded that the problem was in my idle control valve. They said I needed a new one and it would cost $265 bucks so I was ready to whip out my credit card UNTIL after 3 hours they put the new part in and couldn't get it to correctly reset with their computer so the car starting idling high. They concluded that the part was defective and a day later they tried again with installing a second new part. Once again the BRAND NEW part did not work. Soooo obviously they didn't know what they were doing and I was tired of getting the run around so after me cussing them out they put the old part back in the car (supposedly) and my fiancé and I left. As we drive off my AC was blowing out HOT air and the car was stalling which it was not doing before. We took it back again and they took another day to put my old part back in. Cool...except when I drove it after that, my gas peddle starting sticking when I would initially press down on it to drive off. Kinda scary because it could have gotten stuck open, meaning unable to de-accelerate. Good thing I didn't die! I ended up taking my car into a REAL mechanic, not a knockoff and he told me that they left the new part in for whatever reason probably because they are IDIOTS..they also removed an essential screw needed for my control valve (which is why my peddle was sticking) so I ended up spending $500 + to replace the damage they did on top of the new part and labor I paid the new mechanic. They pretty much messed my car up MORE than when I took it in. I would fight them about all of this but I know they would deny everything and I have no proof that they didn't remove the screw. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THESE PEOPLE! DON'T believe the hype. Just because the name is well known does't mean anything. Search Yelp for a good mechanic. read more

Worst customer service! I needed a new tire and have taken my car here before so I thought I'd check it out. Walked in, could not get anyone to help me. When someone finally came to the front, he seemed annoyed that I asked him for help. He was very short with me, and when I informed him that another place had the tire for about $30 cheaper and asked him if there was a better price than what he estimated, he handed me my keys back and simply said ok. Where do I begin.... My wife's radiator goes out in Van Nuys no where near our mechanic so she takes it to the closest place. One radiator later and we are back up and running we thought. Fast forward 2 months later our fan belt starts squeaking. We take it to our local mechanic and he say that the radiator is cracked and to go back to Pep Boys. My wife takes it back and they say their test show no problems. Our guy tightens the belts but we are still squeaking. 4 months later we take it to another mechanic for the belts, he says the radiator is cracked and shows us where. We take it back and they say the test shows no problems but my wife is firm and they put UV dye in. 2 days later guess what they find the radiator is cracked, where is it cracked you ask? Right where my mechanic said it was without using UV to tell him. They then tell us they will replace the defective radiator but we have to pay for the labor as it is past warranty. They even charged us for the radiator fluid they need to change the defective part. Grand total for our trip to this store is about 20 hours of time, the original price of the first radiator, the cost of the labor for the second radiator and 2 trips to 2 different mechanics. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, you will save time and money trust me. read more

My car was vandalized and I needed a rearview mirror to avoid getting a ticket. This was the only Pep Boys I could find with my part and thank the dickens I did! I inquired about a transmission flush while I was there because the young man(Bobby or Robby) at the register was so friendly and knowledgable about my general vehical Q's. I opened my product after purchase in store and before I made it out, I noticed it was defective. Frustrated, I walk back in and was guided to Jonathan(sales manager). He apologized, corrected the part issue and I left. I get to the parking lot and am still having issues with this part, so I find Jonathan again who I explained my already crappy vandalized car day and frustration with the part thats not adhering like its description. Well,he never lost his cool...ever! He took the time to figure out the issue with my purchase and made me feel better about my crappy day than when I came in. I thanked him so much! Everyone, really from the initial phone call to the service rep who answered my transmission fluid change Q was awesome! I felt confident enough to cancel my dealership appointment and have Pep Boys do it. Whomever did the training of staff at this location did a great job. Smiles! Compassion! I never post a bad review from a place I been changing the oil to my car with pep boy for a year and usually in Corona where I live so this time I was around Van Nuys and I decide to stop and change the oil so first the price are totally different in Corona than here in Van Nuys is more expensive, my car take synthetic oil in corona they charge me with taxes and everything 70 dollars here they try to charge me 80 and usually I don't pay 70 because I use the coupon so another thing is the first time I went in the location in corona they told me the cabin air filter needs to be replace so I change it so now everytime I change my oil every three months in any pep boy I go they say I need to change it when I'm already change it is looking a way to take more money from I never has this problem with Toyota before when I took my car there from now on I will take it to the dealer because I don't trust this people anymore plus customer services in this place is awful I never come back again. read more

This is an awful location with terrible business practices. I scheduled an appointment online. I arrived before my appointment time of 6pm. The quote I was given in person did not match that of their online prices. The person helping me assured me that even though I had to sign that the total would be $109, that it would, in fact, be much less due to coupons. I was told my car would be ready in an hour, possibly an hour and a half. Since it was dinner time for me, I went to a nearby place to eat and pass the time while I waited. When I came back, my car appeared to be in the same spot I parked it. After asking for an update on my car (maybe they finished it early?) the person told me he was busy assisting other customers and needed someone else to follow up with me. Fine. Except no one did so I walked up to him again and at that point found out that my car was next. Seriously? At this point I said I would take my business elsewhere and that I wanted my keys back. He simply apologized a few times and gave me my keys, no pushing or anything. Wow. Additionally, if you are Lyft driver and made aware of the discounts at Pep Boys, they never tell you that it's only select locations. This is truly terrible all around and VERY misleading. When they last did my "alignment" they didn't properly tighten my shim bolts and guess what?... they shook, and shoook and shook until they came out. By the time I got my truck into a REAL REPAIR SHOP (see castle Automotive, those guys are the best!) there was severe damage done. I went in there for a tire alignment. I was extremely disappointed in their service. First, they didn't not call me promptly after "fixing" my car. I had to call multiple times to reach the service to only find out that my car has been ready for awhile. After picking up my vehicle I shortly find out that my car is still pulling to the right and they made no changes to the alignment at all. When I explained to them the problem they were extremely rude and said I had to wait for them to inspect my vehicle again. By this time it had been 3 hours since I have arrived at the location. The mechanic who "worked" on my vehicle was extremely rude and seemed like he wanted physical confrontation. I felt hostile just for standing by there. After explaining to a front desk service I was finally able to convince him to test drive the car to show him the issue. When driving the car he soon realized that I had been telling the truth. He offered no solution to the problem and just told me to call his manager the next day. I wasted my time and money for absolutely nothing but for another headache. read more

The employees at this pep boys are absolute crooks. I needed to get my brakes done because I noticed they started squealing. I brought my car here to be serviced and upon arrival I saw another women being helped who was noticeable frustrated. They told her they couldn't find her tire lock key. A few minutes later I was checked in, told them what was going on and that I needed a brake change. They took my keys and told me to wait while they checked it out. They came back about 5 minutes later only to tell me that my brakes were completely ground down and that my rotors needed to be replaced. I was shocked that they were damaged this quickly after my brakes had only just started making noice that day. I agreed to new brakes and rotors and had my husband pick me up because they said it would be about an hour to an hour and a half until they were done. 15 minutes after I left I got a phone call that they could not find my tire lock key anywhere in my car and that they could get the wheels off for and additional $69 fee! First off this is beyond ridiculous. I am paying to have my brakes done so taking off my wheels shouldn't cost more money plus I just had my tires balanced so I knew the wheels had been off in the last month. I called them and told them to stop the service and that I was going to pick up my vehicle. What should have been a $220 brake change ended up being $500. I picked up my car and drove home. I checked my vehicle to see if I could locate the tire lock key and found it right in my glove box. The next day I took it to another place and they changed my brakes. No rotor change, just brakes. I took my car in on 12/26/16 with an appt at 5pm to get a flat tire changed with having warranty on my tires that a buy from PepBoys. I waited in line for 20min while 1 cashier helped cust & 2 others stood around. The cashier who helped me didn't want to make a simple phone call to verify my warranty, so to speed things up I just paid since he was rude. After waiting over an hour with an appt I ask if my car was ready (which it had been for over 20 min). I paid for the service, when I go to get in my car I notice my passenger rear view mirror was broken (which wasn't when I came in) I go to speak with a manager to find out that the entire service staff knew what happened (apparently a hose fell from wind & broke my mirror) it wasn't windy lol & no one mentioned anything to me when I paid. After reviewing cameras the store manager Miriam apologized for what happened. The issue is no one let me know when I paid & they would of let me drive off & not accepted responsibility for what PepBoys staff did.. Definitely don't recommend this PepBoys location to anyone nothing but dishonest employees in the service department. Post doesn't deserve star but had to put to post & im still waiting on phone call from Service Manager Martin.. read more
