Their service is terrible. For starters they take forever with any type of service. I needed a headlight change and they took two hours, and that was with an appointment. Every service I've had from them takes over an hour and a half, no matter how simple. They give out quotes and that are not accurate. I was quoted 363 for my tires last time I was in and today I walked in and they quoted me with 763. They said they didn't have any record of the quote. It seems they purposely give quotes in pencil on paper so you intentionally lose it so they can bait you. I went to a different place and got the same deal for 300 and it only took 20 mins. This is how Pep Boys cheats you on your car battery warranty. They purposely input your telephone number incorrectly. The way Pep Boys keeps track of your car battery warranty and determines if it is still under warranty is by your telephone number. Earlier today, I witnessed an old lady claiming to the service manager, that, she had purchased her car battery just a couple of years ago; it has a three year warranty. The service manager told her they had no record of her purchase. However, the battery has a sticker indicating/proving the battery came from the Pep Boys store. While overhearing this conversation, I informed the manager of this. His response is that she could have purchased the car with the battery already there. I left it at that. The reason I was there, is because I myself was purchasing a car battery. When I came home, I looked at my receipt and noticed that my telephone number read (818) 818-8181. The service manager asked me point blank, what my telephone number was at the store. He on purpose, put a wrong telephone number. On top of that, he didn't even try to put a phone number that even remotely resembled mine. He just assumed I would not look at the receipt. If you decide to buy a car battery from Pep Boys, make sure they input your correct telephone number and keep your receipt in your glove box. Single Ladies, WARNING, WARNING, WARNING do not go to this Pep Boys. My girlfriend who is a single mother and knows nothing about cars took her car in to find out why her rear window wouldn't stay up. They did a diagnostic and figured out she needed a new regulator which costs under $50 brand new, they charged her the bargain price of $254.80. They did discount her diagnostic fee which any reputable auto repair shop does when you do the repairs with them. This repair should have cost $225, ended up being more than $425. Went there for an oil change with appointment. Everything at the counter was so good. They told me it will take about 45 minutes and I came back an hour later only to found my car wasn't even pulled from the parking lot. I confronted them and they found my paperwork somewhere in the corner. Nobody had any clue what's going on. If I didn't go check myself who knows when will they realize. Finally they finished the service an hour later, bring my paperwork back to the counter. And I have to point out to the guy that my paper is here so he will look. Wanted to take time out of my schedule to definitely recognize outstanding customer service that I received today at pep boys by Uriel. I came in because I needed to have two tires replaced on my car, he was very professional helped me get the tires from a different pep boys and get them through the hazard warranty I had purchased on the tires. I had left the store to do some research on my car battery, I called him and asked about the battery model to buy a replacement. He was able to help me replace the battery under warranty as well ended up paying only the tax on the battery.. Definitely am pleased with Uriel and the professionalism and care to my individual needs were.. I recommend that if you're looking to get GREAT service you look for Uriel. Had a really great experience here over the weekend. After I felt Keyes Toyota grossly over-quoted me on an axel repair I drove straight to Pep Boys for a second opinion. That's when I met Martin at the service desk and he absolutely balked when I told him Keyes wanted $1600 for it. Martin assured me it would only be $400something and that it was. He ordered the part for me from another store and assured me I could come back the very next day if I wanted to for the repair. I came back the next day, they had the part, they said it would take a couple hours so I went home, and a mere hour later he called saying the job was done. Went back and paid for it and it indeed only cost me $400something. Things I appreciated: Martin handled the service from start to finish himself, even remembering me on sight the next day when I walked in. I told Martin how much Keyes wanted for the repair BEFORE he told me what it would have cost there, so he literally could have told me any amount around $1600 and I would have believed it, but he was honest and saved me $1200. On 2/26/2015 I brought a battery in that was completely dead. I bought the battery from Pep Boys on 7/14/2012. It was a Bosch battery with a 3 YEAR WARRANTY. The battery had actually died well before the time I brought it in to exchange it for a new one. Simply, the battery sucked and it was under warranty. When I brought the battery in, one of the employees made up some excuse on why they still had to charge me an additional $69.00. I paid it at the time and then went home and thought about it....A warranty is a warranty! Your crappy battery only lasted 2 years and the battery comes with a 3 year warranty. On 3/8/2015, I took all the receipts back to Pep Boys and asked to speak to a manage. I wanted to know why I was charged an additional $69.00 for something that should be replaced for free. When he attempted to pull up my file, he could not find any record of me paying $69.00 and couldn't explain why they charged me that. I've been going to Pep Boys for years, oil changes, tires, etc. On this occasion they can't see the transaction. I showed them my credit card bill with the charge on it but that wasn't good enough. As if its my fault they didn't put my purchase in the system? You guys are ripped me off. On a separate note, you're service department is extremely slow. On several occasions you told me to come back in an hour and I waited in your tiny waiting area for 3 hours. Finally, 90% of the employees there are rude. I'll never go back again. I needed an oil change and the front headlight bulb replaced. I had an appointment and was very specific about the reason I was there. Original time estimate was 1.5 hours. After 4 hours I called them to check on the status of the car and it was ready. No one called me back to let me know it was done. So they did the oil change but no bulb replacement. I don't recommend this location. I just sat for nearly 2 and a half hours for an oil change and watched 2 customers get checked in and out ahead of me during my wait time. I also saw the sales man notice my paperwork and keys sitting in the counter as he was settling the payment of the lady in front of me. It was then that someone picked it up and said figured out it was my car. They told me it would be about an hour and a half in total. Horrible experience with this Pep Boys and the one in Reseda. (Will post a review on their page as well). Went in to the Reseda location after failing a smog check at a local center. They told me that i would need an engine diagnostic, but in order to receive it, i had to make an appointment for the following day as they were full. So i made the appointment for 8:30am the next day. I arrived on time and checked in the front desk. The mechanic then tells me, "oh well we don't do that here so you have to go somewhere else." Excuse me? I told him that i was specifically told what i needed from their mechanic the day before, but needed an appointment. He said "yeah i don't know what to tell you, but we don't do that here." No apology, no trying to solve the situation whatsoever. So i drove all the way to this Pep Boys in Sherman Oaks. After waiting 25 minutes, i finally was able to speak to the mechanic. He said he had to run the test and it would cost me $160. Just for the test. Fine. After about 2 hours i received a call from them saying that if i wanted my car fixed it was going to be around $800. I said okay. After about two minutes i called them back to tell them never mind because i was confident they were overcharging me. All of a sudden the mechanic says, "oh, well i made a mistake, it's going to be around $600 instead." Yeah no. Not falling for that one. Trying to take advantage of people and giving them the run around is something i don't support. Ended up going a few blocks down and getting everything done for less than $400 and included an oil change. Never will i support Pep Boys ever again. read more

I have nothing good to say about this particular store. I came in yesterday and experienced poor customer service. I tried giving the benefit of the doubt being that it was later in the day and very busy. I ended up not getting my car serviced then but I did return today this morning. Again service center delivered poor customer service actually poor is being nice but particularly Bernie. These employees definitely need training. The manager here Martin Andrade must not care about the yelp reviews his store is getting. This seems to be the only store that has 3 or less stars. But now I know why. I only do business with pep boys and being that I live in this area this happens to be the nearest location. I highly do not recommend this store for service unless you want to deal with horrible customer service. I called corporate and filed a complaint overall on the customer service as well as Bernie. He has no patience nor does he represent pep boys well. It seems as if he hates his job and hates having to deal with the customers. Bernie needs to be reevaluated. This here is for Martin if you care enough about your store and your customers as your sign portrays "we care about you and your vehicle" then you should reevaluate your service department and the names that have been mentioned in all your negative reviews in order to make pep boys at this location a better experience for all paying customers. I don't normally like to complain, but I'm SO frustrated, I felt it necessary. I got a flat on my fleet vehicle Friday morning and was told to take it to Pep Boys and the closest one was in Van Nuys on Sepulveda Blvd. I spoke to Anthony when I got there and told him it was a fleet car and a 2018 Chevy Malibu and he said no problem but that they were very busy and it would take a long time or could I come back another day. I asked when would be slowest and he made an appointment for Sunday morning at 9am. I asked him if he could check and make sure they have the right size tire, etc. and he said they will have it not to worry. I arrived at 9am Sunday and Bernie told me they don't have the specs on my car in their system and my fleet place would be closed today and they couldn't help me. I was shocked and frustrated and told him I talked to Anthony about all of this on Friday. I called my fleet number and they approved me going to Firestone down the street. I called on my way to make sure they had the specs and they didn't, but they had common sense and asked what size tire was on the sticker inside of my door and were able to accomodate me. For some reason I thought that Pep Boys would be professional and trustworthy because they're such a big corporation. But as I found out, their automotive "service managers" treated me like crap and overcharged me. Why I went back a second time I don't know - probably because they're so close to where I live... and I thought I might as well give them a second chance. Well this mistake inspired me to wrtie this review, so for anyone considering Pep Boys, hope you benefit from my terrible experience with them: I walk in expecting good professional service, but I ended up dealing with someone who was more interested in coming across as a thug or some tough guy! The service you get is really offensive. You walk up to the counter and they just ignore you... and when you finally get their attention they act like they're bothered - as if they're God's gift to the world, and giving their attention to their customers is too much! I'm really not exaggerating... it seems like they're angry at the world, and so they treat their customers like garbage. As i found out from a friend of mine who is a mechanic - the actual mechanical work they do at Pep Boys is pretty crappy too. Whenever they replace a part, they will never use factory-ordered parts, but instead use cheap after-market parts that are manufactured in China. I know its hard to find a good mechanic, but do yourself a favor and don't go to Pep Boys... if you do then you are guaranteed to be treated like garbage and your car will be downgraded by the after-market parts that Pep Boys puts in. Basically Pep Boys just spends tons of money on advertising so people will think they're some great "all American" company... when in reality they are one of the worst automotive shops you could take your car to. read more

Had my car worked on yesterday, gave them a list of things that needed to be done in addition to some diagnostic work. The service tech found the problem, plus a few other things that needed to be done. Yes they actually did need to be done, they did not just add things to ring up my bill. I had been putting those other repairs off for a while. I was very scared to find out the total of the bill. It turned out my total was less than I thought it would be. Uriel, the service manager is so helpful and so nice. He called to keep me up to date on my repairs and the costs. He even remembered my name when I walked in the door. I woke up this morning to a flat tire. Yay. AAA filled up my tire and followed me to pep boys. BERNIE (which was a pleasant coincidence because it was the name of my last car) was so so helpful. All I needed was the valve replaced. He said it would take at least an hour but he would get it done asap. I was out of there in about 45 min. He even gave me a good deal.
