I came in here to exchange a bad battery that i got in April 2014,I was being assisted by the Service "Manager " MARTIN! He did not help whatsoever he told me I would have to replace it with a different battery due to the one I had was discontinued he stated that I would have to pay the difference which didn't make sense at all! My battery had a 3 year FREE replacement warranty! When I told him that he said he could only give me 15% off and I would have to pay the difference . So then I called customer service and they directed me to Jonathan the other manager which he went ahead and just did a customer satisfaction and all I had to pay for was the installation!!! Why couldn't Martin do this in the first place ???? Why did I have to go through so much to get what was right in the first place!!!! Never again Will I buy a battery there ! The only Person that was extremely helpful and kind was JOE! He installed my battery and was so sweet! He deserves 5 stars! Thanks Joe! I change my oil here on regular basis and today I had less air so I took it to service area and asked one tech to help me. He said do it yourself. So I asked other one and he won't help either. The worst Pep Boys ever! I was in the neighborhood , so I went in to get my headlight changed. I had a headlight replaced a few months ago at the Pico/West Los Angeles Pep Boys. It cost $ 37.00. The acting manager named Vincent at the Van Nuys location, tells me the wait is about an hour. To change a headlight, REALLY? He was impolite, rude and acting like an authoritative fool. He takes my keys and goes outside to see my car. He returns to tell the service writer that the job will be $60.00 because it's a tight area and he has small hands ( he said it, not me) and couldn't get the bulb out, so he has to take it apart. I was standing right there at the counter, but Vincent didn't address me, he spoke to the service writer, who then repeated the message to me, I asked for my keys. When I got to my car, The hood was open the access cap to the headlight is sitting on the engine. By now I'm disgusted with this Pep Boys and especially with VINCENT. The white shirt with his name on it dosen't qualify him to be a manager. I get my car back together, get on the 405 south and head to Pep Boys in West LA. 30 minutes later, I'm driving home with a new headlight. The grand total, after my 15% coupon, was $ 32.00. PEP BOYS of Van Nuys, you should be ashamed of yourself for having this person work for you and for trying to cheat a senior citizen or anyone for that matter. Shame on you! read more

This pep boys had nails and other small debris in front of the store that I didn't see until after picking up my car and leaving. The customer service was ok on my first visit. I came at a good time where I was in and out. It wasn't until the next time I went in there for the same problem some time after, where the people working there were really rude. I signed up for the rewards membership and told the guy how to spell my name and it's like my words went in one ear and out the other after mentioning it more than once. He heard me but he just didnt want to do it. Then the pep boys team tells me they do not do tire patches, just tired plugs. How can that be if they patched up my other tire from the last visit? It was three guys against me. So I left, went to Just Tires and they confirmed that pep boys indeed had patched my tire from the last service. Thanks pep boys for lying to me, for potentially having another tire have a hole in it because you can't clean the front of your workplace, and for sending me mail with the wrong spelled name. read more

They did a wheels alignment on my Toyota Prius. Bernardo C. was a sales person who took this order. the tire alignment was done wrong and as a result both front tires on the sides worn out completely in less then the four months. Just had a great experience with pep boys. My car broke down and I was told by other mechanics that I needed a new water pump or an alternator, or possibly both. This would have run me close to $1000. However, Paul checked closer and found the Serpentine belt had come loose, causing the alternator failure and the leakage from the water pump. $136 total. Thank god for their honesty- I saved a ton of money!! read more

On Monday my mother was shopping at Costco when she got back to her car her tire was flat and it was 9:10 at night but notice the lights were still on at Pep Boys. She walked towards the shop they were closing so she talked to Noe. She told him she had a flat tire and he kindly said to bring it in so they could take a look at the tire. So my mother brought her car in they looked at fixed the tire and they even made sure the was safe by testing it on water for leaks. Not only did that gave me the confidence and my trust to them but my loyalty. They didn't have to do any of this because they were close but they did do it for us. He treated my mother like it was his own mother very respectful. My mother was the one who told me the story so I came in the next day to acknowledge Noe on his professional customer service. Bad experience, I will never go back to this pepboys location again. Went In to purchase four new tires for my toyota tundra, When I spoke to a sales rep they were very unattentative and rude. The tires were also very over priced!! 1100 for four tires!!! Also a time I was previously there, I had them replace my brakes. Everytime I pushed down on them my truck would shake. Just had them replaced again and I was Informed that a pin In my brakes was missing and that was causing the problem. I love this location! I went to the Toyota dealership to replace a clip under my car. They wanted a couple hundred dollars for the service and several hours of my time. I took it to this Pep Boys location just to double check and after a long wait at the service desk and fairly unfriendly fellow there (hence minus one star), Jaime took my car back and fixed the problem without a hitch. He was kind, informative, and saved me several hundred dollars and time. I will definitely be back due to his excellent service. read more

Horrible customer service. Employee would not accommodate sale price which was clearly marked, and when asked to speak to a manager, I was told the manager is on the phone for an hour? What kind of service is that? This is why our country is going down the crapper because employees have no power or the want to power to help out customers that have simple requests with simple solutions. This particular location has alot of issues and yelp reviews are very accurate. The staff is not up to speed on the old school banner service the East coast performs and the staff here was rude on a warranting and replacing a part. Thus I had to go to another location to get a replacement this was a year ago but I see nothing has changed for the better and considering I ran the counter for Pep Boys in the Midwest there is no excuses for this place service is subpar. This review is long overdue. Took my truck in because it was randomly shutting off after starting the engine. No power whatsoever. I thought to myself that's dangerous, what if that were to happen while driving? I took it in and they told me I had a bad battery AND a bad starter. It cost me nearly $600 to get it all fixed. I took it out and not more than an hour later, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. I took it back and they said they couldn't recreate the problem I told them I was having (they didn't tell me that before telling me I needed $600 worth of repairs). I was, however, able to quickly recreate the problem several times over for the mechanic. In the end all that was needed (all that he had to do) was clean the terminal leads to my battery. A job that took 2 minutes and no effort at all. I've been to the PepBoys in NoHo and they are nice people. All PepBoys are expensive as a day at Disneyland. But the PepBoys in Van Nuys is the worst in the valley. I have other grievances but they would all be minor. Also the one near Apple Pan is also terrible (I would write a review for them but they didn't charge me $600 to clean my battery leads with alcohol). I would suggest going to this PepBoys, but instead of going in, get out of your car and throw a wrench in any general direction, and the person that says ouch is probably a mechanic (the area is littered with them) and he or she would do a better job and do it for a cheaper price. I tried to get my money back but they told me I had to call corporate... so, yeah, that's where my $600 went I suppose. read more

This place is absolutely 100% atrocious. The bottom of the barrel. Took my car in for a simple oil change and tire rotation, and they had me wait over an hour and a half (no cars in the service center btw). THEN I am at checkout only to find out that they went ahead and did OTHER MAINTENANCE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION tacking on another $25 to my bill. And their response to my request to take it off was "but your car could use it." That's all fine and well, but if I don't ask for a $25 service, don't take it upon yourself to just do it and charge me for it. At least ask me first. All this to say...don't go here. read more

Truck was breaking down and i assumed it was the battery. Bernie ran tests and showed me that the issue was my alternator. The store was an hour from closing and I would have been stranded if it wasnt for Bernie's decision to handle the project on his own. He left his desk position and took my truck. He asked for an hour to complete the task. It turned out to be 30 minutes. My day has been saved, along with my expenses. I expected a bill of $300-$400 total was $250 labor and materials. The store manager (Jessica) took it upon herself to check the battery and recharge it to capacity. She realized the battery wasn't holding a full charge and offered to replace it with a new one. NO CHARGE. I purchased the battery from Pep Boys about a year earlier. No FUSS No MUSS!!! Great customer service!!! located in the costco parking lot on sepulveda bl. in van nuys. The people who set me up to have my car repaired were great. They assisted me and answered all of my questions.

A manager should set the standard for customer care but that is not case. TERRIBLE treatment by the Asst Manager Bernie!!! I came on Tuesday to get a oil change at 8am. He said he had no one available until after 12:30pm. So I returned in the afternoon and he then said I would have to come back the following morning. I came back at 8am the next day. Jaime was a mechanic took me right in and was friendly. Oil change done. Then Jaime suggested I needed brake pads but the brakes I needed was not in stock. He made me a appt for Friday at 8am 2 days later. I came back on time Friday and Bernie said he didn't have them and they didn't get ordered 2 days ago and I would have to drive to panorama city to another location to get it done. The appt was made 2 days ago!! He tried to up sell me more expensive brake pads but as a single Mom my budget is what it is. My time was wasted. Gas back and forth 4 times was wasted. BOTTOMLINE: I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO COME 4 TIMES EVER if I had an appt scheduled. I feel that Bernie DID NOT CARE and was very dismissive. As a Pep Boys rewards member I am highly disappointed. read more

The post on my battery was worn down and had trouble holding the terminal so I had to hold it down to start my car. I was lucky enough to meet Vincente, a manager, in the Pep Boys parking lot. He took a look and, rather than trying to sell me the terminal that I thought I needed or the whole cable assembly, he suggested a battery post shim for $2.50. He even installed it right there, which took him some time but he didn't complain. I tried to offer him a tip but he refused it. Vincente made a problem into a minor inconvenience. Pep Boys on Sepulveda, next door to Staples in the Costco area. Horrible service! The first time I went to Pep Boys, and telling them I was a new customer, I was treated well. Oil change was done quickly and with no problems. Then later, I was a "regular customer" and they must have figured that I would listen to anything they said, and would trust them. First time: I took my car in for a brake job. After seeing one of their "professional mechanics" throwing a bottle at his co-worker (in the store part at the customer service area), I thought something was up. I told the lady I needed new brakes. An hour later she said, "Um, your brakes are fine. They have eighty percent on them. I can't tell you you need brakes, but you do need a tune-up. The brakes just need to be tightened." She told me that it would be about $300.00. I gave the go-ahead and waited. After the job, the brakes were fine, but the oil leaked all over the place. I took it back in again, they did nothing and said my oil was fine. Second time: A month later the radiator and water pump went out. That was $800. When I asked about the price some fat manager acted like I was an idiot. "You are going to spend eight hundred dollars on a new radiator and water pump and you're complaining about the twelve dollar thermostat?" WTF? I've been in retail for fifteen years and NEVER said anything like that to a customer! So I told him, "Well, I'm just trying to keep a check from bouncing..." then looked at him. He eased up, a little, and told me he would know more about the car in an hour. I waited for two hours before walking home. three hours later he called and said it was ready. I walked back and he said, "Well, it's bad. Really bad. It was $793.00, and I gave you a free oil change." Nice, I thought. I did get a free oil change, but the transmission fluid and oil leaked everywhere as soon as I got home. Took it in again and they denied any wrong-doing despite all the leaking the same day as I drove off from having it fixed. Now I need the brake repaired, not tightened. So now I'm looking for a good mechanic, NOT a Pep Kids bandit! read more

I bought shocks from this store for my 2008 Honda Civic and they rattle like bottles in the trunk. I also purchased a Peak Starter 300, and it didn't have enough juice to start my car when I needed it, causing me a tow bill over $100. I HAVE ALL MY RECEIPTS ALONG WITH THE FAILED PRODUCTS. The only product they recommended to me that was of worth was their air conditioning coolant. It solved coolant issues on both 1998 and 2001 honda CRVs. read more

Wow now the service here is the best, I had purchased tires at a different pep boys but on my way to pick up my kids I was told that one of my tires was going flat. I then panicked ( there is a lot of traffic, and any where I go it will take a long time for the inspection or repair, and my kid is waiting for me ) I remembered that my husband told me that pep boys tires have a warranty and with my luck there was one. As soon as I pulled up, the manager greeted me. I told him that I have not balanced my wheels and that one is going flat. He then told me to park and not to worry about it he looked for my information on the computer while a mechanic took my keys and started to work on it. They were fast, very professional and friendly. I have to say that this is a very nice store, with in 25min they checked my tires for leaks and balanced them. Super service! I will definitely be bringing my car back again! read more

Just moved out here to the valley and my check engine light on my car came on. Around 11 o'clock i took my car in to get checked out. First off the individual who took my keys was less than friendly. Asked me if I had time. I said yes I will go walk around, after i asked him how long as an estimate he said 20 minutes to get it into a service bay and another 40 to get a diagnostic run. I left Pep Boys at 11:15 came back at 1. As I walked back to see if my car was done I saw it was still parked where I left it. I sat down for maybe 5 minutes and then went up to the desk. I asked on the status of my car. After searching the clerk said he had to go to the back. He went into the service area poked around for a little bit then came back. He said it was getting worked on but the technician needed more time. I asked him if they had moved my car into a service area since I cam back. I peeked around the corner and my car was still in the same spot. He had the audacity to lie to my face. He played it off as not a big deal. I asked for my keys back and made sure to inform the other people in the waiting area to actually check if their vehicles were actually getting worked on. I am a sales rep in the area and I will make sure I inform every account and person I see to never go to the place ever. Easily the worst service I have ever had. read more

This is a terrible store. What a rip off!! I came in to get my shocks replaced and asked for a quote and the usual questions like how much will it cost, and how long does it take. The guy kept asking what kind of car I had and I had to tell him 5 times. I asked how much it would cost and he said "a lot". That's not a good way to start. He kept asking which shock I wanted replaced and I kept telling him I wanted all 4 of them replaced. Finally the quote.... They would charge over $80 per shock plus tax and $100 per Corner to install. He said it is tricky and takes over 3 hours to do. I left and went to car quest and bought the front and rear sets of shocks and installed them myself in my garage today in about an hour and twenty minutes. That's after watching a 10 min video on how to do it. I bought a better quality shock and a few more items for under $280. They wanted over $700 for the install. They are price gouging and over priced. The only special tool I used was a screw driver to align the shock in the mount. They are terrible and I will not recommend you go there for anything auto related. read more

Extremely dishonest and disorganized staff. A true shame to the Pep Boys name. Please read all the other reviews and avoid this place. I had some tires ordered online and shipped to this location. I made a 9am appointment online to have 2 tires mounted on my car. When I arrived they said they would give me a call when everything was ready to go. 2 hours in to the process they call and leave me a voicemail saying to call them back. When I called back they said that my vehicle was done and ready for pick up. Great right!..Wrong!! I arrived, waited in line to speak with a service tech, and he proceeds to tell me that they have not started on my car because my tires were never received. I proceeded to show them my tracking information showing that 2 tires were delivered to their store location. They told me to wait while they looked around..then they magically found 2 tires and told me it would be another 2 hours for install. Ugh, ok. So I left and returned 2 hours later(4 hours since appointment), waited in line again. Then finally got to the front, and they told me that 1 of the tires they grabbed was the wrong tire, and in fact the delivery company only delivered 1 tire. Again I showed them my tracking information with their colleagues signature signing for 2 tires at two different times. They began to search again, and came back and said they only had 1 tire, but they could sell me another tire and it can be here in 2 days. (Tires were $346 a piece). I told them no way am I paying for another tire when they lost the one I already paid for. Then spent another 15 minutes looking for the tire......and magically they found it. Wow..what a surprise!! All they had to do was look for it. It's now 4.5 hours from the time I dropped the car off and it was now going in to get the tires mounted. It was clear that the staff was trying to scam me into buying another tire(probably the one I had ordered) and then pocket the cash or steal and resell my tire. read more

I went to the Pep Boys in Van Nuys because my Bronco was running hot. They told me I needed a new water pump and thermostat, and gave me an estimate of $2,100. This seemed extremely high to me so I told them that I would have to make other arrangements. I asked some friends if they could recommend an honest mechanic, and one did. I took my vehicle there and they said that it needed a new water pump and thermostat, and they gave me an estimate of $380. I will never go to Pep Boys again. When I was there, it just seemed like everything was orchestrated. This one mechanic kept saying "I'm just being honest with you". I don't know about you, but when I here that numerous times, it usually means I am NOT being honest with you. My new mechanic told me that I he noticed that my brake rotors were a little warped which I had noticed too. I had the brakes done at another Pep Boys about 6 months ago, and they charged me for new rotors....I think they screwed me too. My advice is stay clear of Pep Boys. read more

So bad I walked out. I don't know if they do good work on your car, but the customer service is horrendous! I made an appointment for an oil change, I showed up 15 minutes early, waited 20 minutes to talk to the one person working the check in. Even though 3 others kept walking by and trying to fix the copy machine. He was helping an elderly man, and being a bit rude in my opinion. He answered his personal cell, talked on the phone, when the customer wanted to give him a credit card, he snidely said, "What, you don't have Cash?"! When he finally got to me, he asked, "What do you need?"! I told him I was dropping off my car for an oil change and gave him my appointment time. Which now was 5 minutes PAST. He then told me it would take 2 hours to get my oil changed! My appointment time said 30 minutes! He flat out said, its 2 hours Everyone is busy! I said no thanks Ill go elsewhere, and I did. Not only did I go elsewhere and get it done for Cheaper, but the service was FANTASTIC! read more

I made an appointment two or three days ago for a 30 minute guaranteed oil change. After waiting around for 45 min I went up to the desk and asked what was going on. Martin, who turned out to be the manager and who was also extremely rude, tried to tell me 30 minutes starts when they pull your car into the bay. I pulled up the website where it said time starts when you sign the paperwork at checkin. Martin still said I was wrong. Then he pulled up the website, read the same sentence to me that I had just read to him and STILL told me time doesn't start until they begin work. Not sure how his brain came to that conclusion but I digress. I told Martin how claiming something in an ad and doing something different is false advertising and illegal. Martin did not care, nor did he even give any effort to keep me as a customer. Even after I told him I was complaining to corporate he continued to be the most rude employee I've ever encountered. So, unlike him I live up to my promises and I filed a complaint with corporate and I'll be filing one with California's governing body. Also, my mom had the same experience with Martin 2 days prior. All I can say is wow!! This Pep Boys location has amongst its employees some of the most amazing, considerate, helpful, kind and awesome customer service reps and mechanics I have ever met! I don't know if Miriam is perhaps a manager of this store or not (if not, she should be promoted to manager immediately because she displayed excellent leadership during my recent visit and went way out of her way to make sure I got the oil change and lube my car desperately needed when she could have just as easily not intervened) but it is clear she takes a personal interest in making sure all customers who walk thru the front door receive excellent service. Caesar knows how to get the job done quickly, efficiently and pleasantly- always with a smile on his face even though servicing my vehicle meant staying late and working past closing on a night right before a big holiday weekend. And Bernie- what an amazing dude! I would come back to this location just to chat with him :) He also thoroughly explained some different products to me and introduced me to a new brand of car products that is far superior to what I was using before. This place should close their doors - at least the "tire service" part should. I went there to get a flat tire repaired and was told I need a new tire. They told me if I came back in an hour and a half it would be ready to put on my car. I went to pickup my kids from school and came back in 2.5 hours and it was'nt ready because the "technician" who was working on my car left in the middle of his shift. They told me it would be another hour. I asked if I could come back in an hour so I could bring the kids home and he said I would lose my place in line. So we waited and walked around Costco for an hour then went back to pickup my car. The "service manager" Martin is who "helped" me upon our return. I can say I've never dealt with anyone so rude and disrespectful in the service industry EVER. Not only did he not apologize, he didn't even say hello. He told me what it cost and tossed me my keys after I paid. I wish I would have gone to Costco. Good luck in the service business Martin, cause you're going to need it. read more

Louis is the best! I've been to this location twice and each time was remarkable, kind, clean and quick. I live very close to the Sepulveda store and don't like driving so far away. But the difference in service is SO much that I will come to this one or no Pep Boys at all. The lines aren't very long here, the store is super large and the managers seem to be kind and compassionate and not burnt out. The guy at Sherman Oaks ( I wrote down his name - will fill it in later when I look for the paper) was so burnt out that he was borderline hostile from the get go. Not personally mad at you, but just OVER it. He didn't try very hard, he didn't look at my car, he did the bare minimum he needed to do in order to blow me off. I go to this Panorama City location and they IMMEDIATELY put my car on the lifts, inspect it, even explain to me what's what. I knew the difference within the first 3 minutes of interaction. I was just about to bail out Pep Boys in general, but this encounter with Louis prompted me to trust them one more time and to buy some new tires from them - which keeps me in their world for a long time. read more

They promised me a 6 hour clutch and brake job. 6 hours later I come to check on my car to find out my car hasn't been worked on because they didn't have any of my parts (which they clearly said they did when I made the appointment) and they said it was going to cost me 200 more than I was quoted plus my car would not be ready until 3pm the following day.... I never got a phone call or anything for the whole 6 hours it sat there.. When I said forget it I'll take my car somewhere else, I was told I had to wait an hour and a half until the mechanic came back from lunch to take my car home... Pay a little more and go where they actually care and know what they are doing... DO NOT GIVE THIS PEP BOYS YOUR BUSINESS! THEY ARE A COMPLETE JOKE! read more

Your right about the BS scheduling, I made an appt. 2 days before appt. and they had no clue about my appt. and why I was bringing my car in. I was the 2nd customer there at 8am. They told me that they had parts in stock and that they would call when my car was done. At 1:30 I called them and I was told that they are waiting for a part. I said that you guys told me that they had the parts, they said that they were the wrong parts and they would call me. I again called at 4pm and he told me he would call me back in 10 minutes. At 5:15 pm I called and they told me that my car won't be done till tomorrow because they did not get the parts delivered, and that my car should be done by 2pm tomorrow. After hanging up I called back and asked to speak to a Supervisor, I explained that I need a rental can they provide one for me, he put me on hold and then told me that it would be done tonite at 9pm. I said ok I will be there to pick up my car, and then he said to call first just in case it is not done. They do not know how to treat customers and lye just to buy more time. The Managers there need better training and they need someone there that knows how to treat customers by doing something as simple as calling back, and being truthful about giving out status of repairs being done. read more

I stopped in on Mother's Day. I met Rafael. He mentioned he just started working there, originally from the Hollywood location. I told him I needed breaks. He was pleasant and professional, and assured me it wouldn't be long. While I was waiting, one of the managers, Uriel, came out to verify I was the customer with the breaks. He was also pleasant and professional. Upon speaking with him, he told me he was one of the managers who was there for one year and I could tell by his presentation he enjoyed his job as well as by watching him relate to other customers, IT SHOWED this is a place about customer service as well as their knowledge of automobiles. Not only is this a great place to get service or even a quote, but it's a five stars service from the people who work there--that show they care! I wish I could give this zero stars, because clearly one is way too much. I had the same experience about not being acknowledged when I went into the store. There were four people in line, and the guy walks away from the counter without saying anything to anyone. The assistant manager walks up and starts typing away but never looks up. Five minutes later, a girl walks out from the back and starts helping customers. Then, the assistant manager now has time to help and he assists me. I had an appointment, so I was able to get started right away. The mechanic comes to get me about an hour later to show me something on my car. I slip in oil on the way to the car, but I let that go and didn't say anything. He talks in circles until I finally tell him to get to a point. Realizing I can get the work done later, I ask to check out. I walked a different path back out of the shop, and slipped again. This time it took me a few seconds to get my balance. Now I'm upset. I asked Rigo for the corporate phone number, but he claims he doesn't have it. However, he questions why I need it. I told him I slipped twice in the shop, and he never looks up from typing. Now I'm furious. I responded to the survey, and was told I would be contacted in 48 hours. This is the fourth day, no response. I emailed corporate today, no response.
