1000% Price Inflation and negative BBB report. I went in to Pep Boys to get an inspection on my truck and was told that there was no wait and that I came at a perfect time. **Two hours later** I was informed that my truck had failed the inspection for two reasons: 1) both sets of wheel bearings on my front two wheels needed to be replaced and 2) the wheels on my truck had begun to dry rot and I needed to get them replaced. My quote for the work was $1,100.00! For those of you who are not aware, a quote of this magnitude for a $16 inspection, $120 wheel bearings ($60/set), and $400 for tires, the math just doesn't add up to a fair price. I then took my truck to a certified Ford Dealer's shop for a second opinion. I was informed that 1) the wheel bearings only needed to be tightened and 2) my tires' tread was wearing from the 40,000 miles that I had put on them but that I should be good until next year's inspection. All in all, the work at the Ford Dealership came to $105.00. It infuriates me to no end that mechanic shops, such as this Pepboys, attempt to take advantage of *seemingly* uneducated people by trying to sell them on unnecessary parts and services to make extra profit. If at all possible, take your vehicle to a more honorable and reputable mechanics shop for any and all service(s). read more

I have taken my car here and they are crooks. If the "computer says" it takes 5 hours to put on a starter and it takes 3 hours you are going to pay for the difference. So basically you pay almost an extra 200 dollars for nothing. I can't believe they charge you for time they didn't even spend fixing the car. Now if something goes wrong and it takes more than the time they quote you will pay past the quoted price. Which defeats the argument that you pay what the "computer" says for how long it takes. NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! It cost me 800 dollars for a new starter! 450 for a regulator on my electric Windows! I hate this place and feel there is way too much ignorance keeping this place open. 3, 3 hours for an oil change. wtf???? i asked them to do an oil change only. no tire rotation no inspection just an oil change. i usually do it my self i know how long it takes to do. i just drove from arkansas to west va an needed it done . my things have yet to arrive , thus getting it done at pep boys. i have a car 3.7 oil capacity was still $89.00. wtf my husband had his cars oil changed there on the monday 2 days before me his car takes 5 quarts an was also full synthetic as well but only cost him $59.63. not sure why his cost less for more oil? not that pep boys cares an i will never hear anything from them but damn $89 an 3 hours how is that so? read more

took my car for a state inspection (already expired ) and the attendant , without even removing the tires told me that i would need new brakes or the car will fail inspection . I decline and told him that i will take care of the brakes and come back. i wasted a complete day taking my car to my shop, for nothing. my brakes had still 60% of life, no safety concerns to fail inspection. I needed replacement tires installed and an alignment on my 2015 Impreza. Pepboys had what I was looking for in stock. They properly torqued the lug nuts, allowed me to observe the alignment process, where I could actually see that something really happens during an alignment. Great guys, great work. However, luckily, I did purchase the road hazard because I must have hit something, damaging the side wall and flattening the right aft tire. I brought it back and the manager overheard and saw the tires had only been installed four days, and waived the labor fee! What? Who does that? These awesome dudes at Winchester Pepboys did! They had even clearly explained that the road hazard only covers the tire. They definitely have my business from now on... read more

Wednesday evening we discovered we had a nail in our tire on our way to dinner when our tire pressure light came on. Luckily Pep Boys had an opening as they were in walking distance from where we were going, so we dropped off with a promise of an hour and a half. Great, cool. They could have come out to take a look real quick to not waste our time before we left them with our keys, but I digress. We walk to dinner thinking they'd call us like they said, they never called but just sent a text saying "non-repairable" and when we get there they said it's non repairable and that we would have to buy 4 brand new tires on our brand new car with just over 7,000 miles on it with very little wear and tear because it's 4-wheel drive. And they started giving us quotes for tires and we declined as we have our warranties at our dealership. We dropped off the car at our dealership on Friday evening since we discovered it was a very slow leak and wasn't a big rush in our busy schedule. We got back a response this morning from the dealership saying it was easily repaired and only a $30 charge. This was our first experience with Pep Boys, and also will be our last, they just are trying to either play the game and sell sell sell, or were feeling particularly lazy that evening and didn't want to deal with it, and then again leads into the sell sell sell mindset. I would give a zero if I could. Made an appointment 3 days ago for 9 am. Arrived at 8:55 am. Drove an hour to get there. 2 hours later I find out that the technician had not even been informed my car was waiting! At least that's what I was told. Total lie! Upon arrival he was spoken too by another employee about my car and said he could look at the AC and try to diagnose it even if it was cooler outside. The technician said he wasn't aware my car was waiting, however, he had the keys? Some appointment. FU on taking all of the tire replacements ahead of mine. Sure, it's all about how much $ they will make off of you. If it's not much, you will wait for hours, literarily! I'm not stupid. Total waste of time. They acted as if they could care less! I was on my way to culpeper from Baltimore and got a flat tire in which my insurance company had my truck towed to pep boys. Once I got here Scott was sooooo nice in telling me that even tho they were booked and weren't able to take anymore vehicles tonight that since I was out of town hed personally do the tire himself for me. He has saved me from quite a bit of heart ache becuz my husband has work tomorrow and had to do me off and had back. This is insane!! I have been waiting for 5 hours to get 2 tires and an oil change. I was told 2 hours at the most. To make matters worse they always try to find other problems to add to the list. I also asked for an alignment which they said they would get done in that time but said they couldn't do until I spent more money on other repairs. worst pep boys location ever, never had a successful visit. Warning!! Avoid!! service/store managers don't give a crap, they close early and will overcharge if you don't pay attention. They've sold a prepaid special order to another customer within 24 hours of it coming in; charged parts twice on a work order; failed to even start the work (brake package/oil change) on a car at four hours past a scheduled appointment (because the shop doesn't have an OBD2 scanner and the only one available to the shop belongs to a certain tech who couldn't be bothered) and they also seem to close early whenever the mood strikes. today we made the hour drive to pickup 2 batteries (online orders) only to find they had closed early. Went for a basic inspection after having a previous inspection at Merchants Tire and fixed all the issues that failed me (lights, rear brakes, reflectors) Even though the inspection at pep boys took THREE HOURS (arrived at 1030am, left at 130pm) they said that my front brakes now need replaced. Even though the inspection at Merchants was less than 200 miles ago, somehow my front brakes have triggered enough interest to be failed. After doing a bit of research on the VA Inspection Code, brake pads are within passing limits if more the 2/32 of an inch. I have much more than that on my front brakes so I'm not sure what this inspector was looking at when evaluating my car. Moral of the story, if you have loads of time to waste in the waiting room and like dishing out money for unnecessary things, this store is for you! :) read more

I have had good work done however the timeliness of completion is ridiculous. I had front struts and rear shocks put on was called 4 hours after I dropped my vehicle off and was told the technician walked out, repairs could not be completed that day as it was still taken part. About 24 hours later my vehicle was done and ready. Then I took it back for a brake inspection and check alignment again over 3 1/2 hours waiting and still no word on what my vehicle needs. Asked for a pair of tires and was told they would only sell me four, as my car is all-wheel-drive. I explained that I unwittingly put two on a few hundred miles earlier, until I became aware that all should be replaced at same time. Still, they refused to honor my request. Traveling from New England to Florida in our 2011 GMC Sierra Diesel. We had a DEF, & Check engine light come on. We stopped in. Since PepBoys doesn't do all things with Diesels they were not able to help our problem but the employee Hunter went out of his way to make a few calls to trouble shoot our issue. The only reason they don't get more bad ratings is because most of the local Winchester people know that Pep Boys is dishonest and you are likely to get ripped off if you take your car in to this business. My bet is that Matthew S and L.H. either works at Pep Boys, is related to someone there or was just very lucky. You can't have that much of a swing in ratings without something fishy. I have used pep boys here for years and have brought many cars in for things. I recently had tires done and the front lugs were loose the claim it's the mileage on my car which is bs as I have driven my cars for 260,000 miles and more and never had a lug come loose . Just yesterday I got a flat. I was talked to like I was a bimbo. The ultimate insult was when my partner showed up and suddenly I'm invisible. All questions and conversation was directed to him. Ladies stay away from this place they will treat you like crap. He even tried several times to get the manger to talk to me about my car. I've been to this store many times... Every time I buy something, I always end up having to return it and go to autozone or napa. There stuff is just junk. I bought some dashboard indicator lights. Got em home installed them, and the darn light was burned out! (I tested just the light on a battery to make sure it wasn't me) returned it, found the exact one online on summet racing for 1/2 the price! And it worked! There are also many other things that I have bought that the craftsmanship is crap.... Valve spring compressor would slip off every time I put it on, telescoping magnet kept telescoping(the sleeves fell apart) I have never used there repair services... 1. I do my own 2. Well Pep Boys has officially lost my business! Last visit I had for an oil change (in my new car) they didn't put plastic covers over my light gray seats and now they're stained even after scrubbing it with carpet cleaner. Decided to give them another chance after that only because the manager on duty was so kind and helpful with the situation that occurred last visit... Called ahead to make an appointment for this evening and the manager on duty (not the same one as last time) said, "Bring it in and wait in line." ... A few hours later we get to Pep Boys and the manager or whatever he is (Gill) was extremely rude and unpleasant to deal with. Just flat out horrible attitude. Said it would be a few hours and that I needed to leave my car there, which would've been cool if I'd have known ahead of time so I could have had my husband bring a separate vehicle. I asked if I could possibly schedule one for later this evening explaining that I have a work trip to make tomorrow, he told me no that I needed to wait like everyone else. So after dealing with Gill and his bad attitude I will no longer bring my car there and will be heading to Jiffy Lube up the road. read more

I dropped my smart car off 7/12/20 because my driver side rear tire kept going flat. The top of the air valve had broken off somehow and its basically a tire pressure sensor which in the end seems to have been letting air out. They call me, tell me I need to replace the sensor in the tire, that it'll cost $148, I say fine. Next day I go to pick it up, I check out my car and my passenger side front tire is completely flat. Not even the tire I was having fixed. Not sure why they needed to touch my other tires. The air sensor on that tire has been broken off at the top and all the air has gone out. I go in and tell the guy, he checks it out and I can either pay $148 for a new tire pressure sensor that they broke, or get a rubber one. Pretty crap service when they charge you to fix one thing, break another, and expect you to pay for their mistake. No accountability here. I would not recommend. read more

I made the mistake of taking my car here for an inspection. The next thing I know I had a rejected sticker on the windshield, and a printout saying I needed at least $750 of parts and labor on the suspension system. They wanted two days to order parts and do the work. I took it to another garage, got the work done and an alignment and a valid new inspection sticker for $325. Pep Boys seem to be one of those places that lives off old people who don't know anything about cars and get intimidated easily. I would give them just one star except that they do have a good location in town, and I was the one dumb enough to drive in there. read more

I had a terrible experience at Pep Boys. I brought my car in for new breaks and an alignment during my scheduled appointment time. 2.5 hours later, I got a call that I needed additional work which I know I didn't need. My estimated fee when I dropped it off was approximately $104.96, and 2.5 hours later it magically turned into $1106.32 which I didn't pay. I still was charged for the inspection which apparently takes 2.5 hours to complete. I of course left this establishment and will not be returning. For all potential customers, I encourage you to not use Pep Boys even if you are just purchasing windshield washer fluid. You will be lied to, overcharged, wait for 2.5 hours, and will be told that they cannot give you windshield washer fluid until they rebuild your engine. read more

Made an appointment on-line early in the morning yesterday for an oil change for 7:00 pm. Got there at 6:45 only to be told they can't do it that night, too busy. Asked why they didn't notify me before I came since they had my email and phone number, guy didn't have an answer for that, guess they don't care. He also said the online appointment system doesn't take into account how busy they are, it just takes appointments. So, apparently Pepboys can only TAKE online appointments, they cannot HONOR your appointment. He then asked about making another appointment. I said sure but he then said my car can only have a synthetic oil change, which costs about $25 more! I said that's not true and I verified that in the owners manual. I said no thanks, I'll change the oil myself. That way, it'll been done right rather than have them taking a shot at it. read more

The car is less than two years old and has 38,000 miles so I took it somewhere else to make sure. The car did not need new brakes and it was a simple dust shield problem. This shop has horrible service and they lie. I needed to get a part for my headlights and when they ordered it they called and said it was in the next day. After I came back it turned out to be the wrong part. They blamed it on the company for sending them the wrong part. So they ordered the part again and said it would take four days for it to come in. It never came in after I went to the shop to check. I called and never received a call back. I told them I would have to go somewhere else and the guy said alright, they don't even care about losing business. I went to the dealer for my car and it was fixed within two hours. This is a terrible terrible store. The people there are very lazy.......... What I am thankful for out of this experience is if Pep Boys hadn't done such a crappy job at customer service I wouldn't have found the great place I got my car fixed at, so thank you Pep Boys for that! read more

I generally don't patronize corporate service stations, however I am new to the area and didn't know where else to get tires at a reasonable rate. From the moment I stepped in the store, I was greeted and directed to the tire center. The associate at the counter in the tire center, Carlos, quickly began on my quote, however he needed more information on my car then I knew off the top of my head. We walked out to my car together where he took a peek at my tires and even taught me a few things about them. I agreed to getting new tires that day after Carlos showed me my choices, however I was just on my lunch break. I asked how long it would take and he estimated about two hours. I stated that was OK, but I would need to get an Uber to take me back to work. That is when Carlos offered me a ride back to work! Gil, the manager took me back to work and then picked me up a few hours later once I was off! My car was all ready for me to go when I got back! Okay so I came here today on a whim when I had a chance to get off of work for the time. I needed to renew my state inspection. I had called another auto shop and they didn't have an inspector on site and recommended a few places to me. The first place they said was Pep boys. I called PB and they said they weren't busy and could get to me once I came here. Since they are close to my house I drove over here and got here by 12:00. They inspected my car and had me out of there by 12:35! The man, Jan, who inspected it was very friendly and when he was finished he came up to me to let me know that my car had passed inspection, but took the time to explain the little repairs that could be fixed in the near future. I was impressed by everyone's general positive personalities from the gentleman who took my info in the beginning, to the inspector, to the man that took my payment and made a copy of the detailed paperwork for me. (I'm not very vehicle savvy so to have the info I needed was very nice). From the time I got here to the time I left I was taken care of. And being a woman going to an auto body shop for the first time it was an awesome experience. I will return. read more

My husband and I were traveling from VA to Michigan when our brakes started to make a grinding noise. We found Pep Boys in Winchester and asked for a brake inspection which turned out to be free. It took 2+ hours, but they took the brakes apart and put them back together. Nothing was found and we continued on our journey with peace of mind and no further noises. Everyone was very helpful, honest and very concerned we could travel safely. As we approached the mountain curves in PA, I was very grateful for Pep Boys. read more
