Chicken sandwich - heat level : learners permit Side of fries
    Sierra N.

Every single time I have eaten here it's just been amazing. During hot chicken week two years ago, this place stole my heart and i haven't had a favorite since. I always get the learners permit- perfect level of spice . Maybe go own spice level down if you're not super used to spice . I will be back 100% . The food is quality every time period

Great friendly staff, SUPER juicy and actually SPICY delicious chicken, the fried grilled cheese is insaneeee, and the green chili mac!!!! WHEW. would pick this place over some of the bigger named chicken spots in town. TRY IT!!

Spice level: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Crunchiness: 2/5 I'm visiting Nashville, TN, and was recommended to try this place! It's a small hole in the wall with limited seating but plenty of parking. I've tried Nashville fried chicken the first time in Maryland with similar spice levels but different names. What I love about Nashville fried chicken is that it is typically overall well seasoned. When I had eaten the Nashville fried chicken in Maryland, it was one of my top chicken places ever! The crunchiness with the flavors and spice level. But, when I tried pepperfire hot chicken, the chicken was barely crunchy. The seasons and heat were spot on. I ordered spice level 4, and I'm typically someone who could tolerate my heat. It was definitely spicy, and I would probably go one level down the next time I order it to actually enjoy the taste more. I wish the sandwich as well had more of a crunch to it! There needs to be more texture in the chicken sandwich.

This place is very convenient considering it's just up the street. Very small on the inside and can only go in to pick up and if you place an order it has to be done through the kiosk. They only accept credit or debit. NO CASH! Order was ready before the original quoted time, which is a plus. Everything seems to be very fresh. Only complaint I have is the apples. I ordered apples hoping for some decent baked apples. I'm aware these were out of the fan and most people who serve apples get them from a can. But maybe switching the brand of them would be good. They didn't have much flavor and tasted very artificial. The tenders were great along with the fried okra.

The chicken here is AMAZING!!!! I was slightly skeptical when I walked in, only because this is a "grab and go" spot with only a few chairs and two tables. No reason for that to deter me, it was very clean. Food was slightly pricier $12-15 a plate. But let me tell you..... SO WORTH IT! The bread, the pickles, the slaw, THE CHICKEN! All so delicious. I got the #3 spice which is just enough to taste it. My son got #4 spice which was a little hotter but still very delicious. Oh and the fried okra!!! Next time I'm trying the fried pickles cause the pickles were so fresh.

This is a TO-GO ONLY spot now! It isn't as good as I remember, and I'll give reasons why. First of all, they no longer do the version that comes with a waffle. This is a missed option that I felt was simple and still delicious back when this restaurant was open in East Nashville on Gallatin. Second, the spice levels are quite misleading. Don't go with anything below a level 4 if you want to taste any heat at all. While their seasoning looks like a ton if you get a level 3, it's as mild as a plain tender. I will give them credit for having super juicy and soft chicken tenders. It was not dry at all. Their fries are good, and their cinnamon apples are as good as I remember. I also like their fried okra also this is very reminiscent of a frozen variety you can buy at a grocery store. Overall while the quality of the food is good, the fact that the spice levels are inconsistent and it isn't readily know that this location is now to-go only bring their rating to a 4 star.

Excellent Hot Chicken meal! The Apple Jack (Hot Chicken, Grilled Cheese and Apples) is a perfect balance of flavors. The restaurant is take out only (no seating) but a different restaurant in the building has a few outdoor picnic benches.

Hot chicken in Nashville just goes together and Pepperfire does belong in the list of hot chicken places to try. The chicken is seasoned well and orders come out around the expected 20 minutes or so wait. The reason for the 3 stars is that they only offer to go orders. If you don't live on that side of town by the time you are able to eat your food then your food maybe cold. Also they don't have wings!!!! Granted I do like the option of having legs but who don't serve wings at a chicken spot? 3 wings and fries is my go to at every chicken spot to compare each of them. Overall I'm not disappointed at the food itself. It's good but nothing particularly stands out amongst the hot chicken spots in Nashville. And yes the chicken is hot

One of the most memorable meals of the trip. We ordered the Chick-In Feast, Feast for 6…read more The meal started with solid appetizers. Four fried phyllo dough rolls with chicken (wish this was 6 since the feast was for 6). The others were different dipping sauces to eat with pita bread. Everything was good but our favorites were Humus (hummus) and Alinazik. The Alinazik was creamy, smoky, with a mild taste eggplant in it. That was followed by the Haydari (yogurt with dill and mint). Wasn't quite sure what to think of Ezme which had walnuts and was tart and fruity. Definitely interesting and worth trying, but we wound up only eating about half of that one. The soups (6) - A choice between 2 - Mercimek (lentil soup) almost tasted like a split pea soup - (solid. Chicken soup tasted like cream of chicken with bigger pieces of chicken - ok. Salad was ok. It was like a house salad with a slight drizzle of creamy dressing. The dressing was purple (maybe from pomegranate). The main show was the entree. A massive mountain of saffron rice topped with various grilled meats and vegetables. My favorites were the chicken wings and the ground chicken kebabs. I didn't particularly care for the pearl onions since they were on the grill too long (burnt with acrid flavor). Dessert was 6 pieces of baklava. A pretty good version of it. Very sweet from chocolate sauce, not very crispy. The walls are covered in chicken related decor featuring chicken puns. If you like dad jokes, this will be a positive. The feast at Only Chicken is truly a feast. I love the amount of variety they're able to get with just one protein and the grill. Fun and memorable experience.

Hot, I could kind of handle but not ideal. Damn Hot was not a fun experience anymore. I got the Comeback Sauce which didn't really help with the heat since it's a little spicy itself. My friends ordered a side of BBQ sauce that was like a creamy BBQ sauce. It tasted pretty good, but a bit of an odd combo with the wings. The sides were really good. Out of the ones I tasted, I would order them: Pimento Mac & Cheese - cheesy goodness, pasta on the softer side, but still acceptable Black Eyed Pea Salad - a nice refreshing take on beans with a good hit of vinegar. Pairs well with fried chicken Cole Slaw - a pretty standard, but solid slaw Bacon Cheddar Grits - very cheesy, a little thinner than I was expecting Hattie B's knows what they're doing and are cranking out good food. This is mostly…read morebecause of the convenience, but no other place near me does chicken wingettes like Helen's. Their menu covers the standard Nashville hot chicken essentials, alongside an unexpected spread of seafood options if you want catfish or shrimp. My default order is almost always the 6-piece or 8-piece wingette combo, paired with fries and a drink. First, a quick reality check on the space and timing: Helen's is housed in an older, no-frills building. On hotter summer days, be prepared for it to get pretty stuffy inside since the HVAC clearly struggles to keep up. Everything is cooked strictly to order, which means your food comes out piping hot, but it also means ticket times can easily stretch long during peak rushes. Plan accordingly and don't come in expecting fast-food speed. When the chicken arrives, the fry job is exceptional. The skin has a serious, audible crunch that holds up all the way through the box. My only technical critique is that the chicken could really use an extra minute to rest and drain before getting packed up; taking that first bite often leads to a literal burst of trapped hot grease and oil popping out, noticeably more so than other fried chicken spots in town. That said, it often is convention to dip or brush chicken with oil before boxing to let it carry better. Service has a couple of distinct friction points. For one, they are notoriously stingy with dipping sauces. Most spots toss in at least one complimentary ranch or house sauce with a wing combo, but Helen's charges for every single packet. They also aren't particularly upfront about the upcharge until you see the total. Then there's the standard counter-service tipping prompt. I usually leave a tip because I'm a regular and the staff recognizes me, but it does sting a little when you realize you're still bagging up your own takeout containers at the counter. All that said, as long as you walk in with the right set of expectations regarding the service and atmosphere, Helen's easily earns a spot in my regular rotation. It lands at a solid 4 out of 5 stars for me... I just have to make sure I have my own ranch waiting at home in the fridge.
