A last minute change in plans and I was able to go out to dinner with both my kids. It was around 6pm and we decided to try Perlo's - this late on a Friday evening I didn't this we'd have a snowballs chance of getting a table, but fingers crossed I called and was able to reserve a table at 6:30 ... win #1! When we got there, it was packed, but we were immediately sat. The waitress was right there bringing us water, bread and asking for our drink orders. For whatever reason, we were a "French" table that night ... my daughter ordered the special - Lobster French, my son got the chicken French and I went with the haddock French. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The haddock was fantastic - perfectly breaded and cooked in lemon sauce served over pasta. I had a bite of my daughter's lobster and it was cooked perfectly. Overall an exceptional experience - from getting a table quickly on a busy night, to great service from the waitress and staff, to an awesome meal! We will be going back to Perlo's and I recommend you give it a try as well. read more

In the past we have had good meals and good service ... but tonight not-so-much. Two of us ordered the "Fig & Arugula Pizza - Authentic "Italian Style" pizza grilled to perfection, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, topped with mozzarella & Gorgonzola cheese, prosciutto, fresh arugula & dried fig." There was hardly any cheese or arugula on it and no prosciutto at all. The dried fig was just drizzled. We were basically eating bread. I did tell the waitress it wasn't good. We received 4 - 2 inch Cannolis as compensation. In addition the service was very slow and our waitress had an attitude. The next tables chairs were touching ours, and it felt like we were dining with our neighbors. The staff kept on carrying tables and chairs around us to rearrange the set up. It was pretty loud too. Another excellent meal enjoyed last night at Perlo's ! I shared a very tasty app of spicey Calamari Marinara with my daughter. The calamari is not breaded, cooked perfectly, tender yet with a nice texture and flavor. The marinara was well seasoned with just enough spice to make it interesting without being overpowering. Entrees were veal saltinbucca, eggplant parm and chicken riggies ( see the menu for the details on that). All were very good. Our server was attentive without becoming intrusive. We were visiting the Rochester area on a mini break and looking for a nice restaurant for dinner. By chance, Perlo's was minutes away from our hotel. We love Italian cuisine for date night and were thrilled with our experience here. From the superb service to the food itself, I wish I could give Perlo's more than five stars! I went here this past weekend for the first time with some work colleagues. It was a full house on a Friday night, and seems to have a very old and loyal crowd. The service was okay; we had missing water glasses and had to keep asking for refills. The arancini appetizer was good, not great. I got the ciopinno and sadly it was way overdone. The mussels and clams were gummy and they wanted to add the fish of the day, which was salmon, which I thought was really odd so I declined. My husband got the seabass, the special that night, and he said it tasted frozen. We had an okay experience here, but it didn't win me over. read more

The waitress was incredibly rude to my husband and I, and when we ordered water (instead of the beer and wine she recommended because we don't drink), she stormed off without saying a word. We decided to try a resturant outside our scope of "regulars". So, tonight we tried Perlos in East Rochester, NY. We ordered meals for pickup. We found it odd that our bill had a 20% "tip" included. Who gets this "tip"? We drove up, picked up our order and left. Isn't a tip somethong that is left for the server? It was late, we were hungry and decided not to challenge the extra cost. We felt the added "tip" was just a way for the owners to increase revenue. We ordered Chicken French, Chicken Bella and Chicken Riggies. The French was bland but palatable. The chicken bella was delightful and definately worth a repeat. The Riggies were disappointing. Very little chicken, the sauce was bland. There were some sweet peppers but nothing "hot" about it. A definite "pass". In summary, the food is fair, nothing special. The 20% "tip" for take out is a deal breaker. As a side note, I've heard many positive reccomendations for Perlos. I was anxious to try them. It is unfortunate that I was dissapointed. read more

Delicious dinner at Perlo's tonight! Was able to dine with family and friends after work. The five of us enjoyed bread and butter before dinner. Huge and mouth watering menu. This evening, we all felt like pasta dinners! So after tasty salads, the other diners at my table enjoyed vodka sauce with lasagna, shells and chicken. I enjoyed the pasta with eggplant parmesan . Even though the portion was very large, I ate every bite as it was hot and tasty! And I can't pass up tiramisu for dessert! I would recommend Perlo's to locals and visitors! This was an embarrassing experience! We took an out of town guest to a restaurant we thought would be a good Italian dinner. WRONG! After twenty five minutes and not seeing someone assigned to our table, we asked for someone to take a drink order for the three of us. The bread server took our order. We still waited for our server to approach the table. This did not happen. As the drinks were delivered, we had made our decision to leave. On our way out I spoke to Donna and told her the service was unacceptable. She tried to make an excuse that she had NEW help. What does that have to do with having someone come to your table? For having been to Italy and Sicily a couple of times this place was not to bad. The fried calamari was on point. Crispy, light and tasty. Bottle of Pinot Noir went by pretty fast. Wish they had a bigger wine list. Had the Arugula and Fig pizza. Decent. Probably should've gotten the Gnocchi or Ravioli. My GF's Haddock was very delicious though. The bill was confusing in that a martini was $8.00 but then an extra dollar for the alcohol and and another dollar for ice (on the rocks). a total of $10.00 A manhatan drink, $8.00, also added an extra dollar for the alcohol and a another dollar for up, no ice. Why the extra dollar?! When questioned about the extra billing we were told that is what restaurants are doing now. Made this reservation way ahead of time and it it was confirmed by text last night.It was clearly for 7 people.When we arrived it was set up for 5 people and the hostesses (including Donna Perlo ) acted confused like we were mistaken.So the they jammed the 7 of us into a round table (clearly too small).So that set my mood for the night!I had to flag down the busboy to get the seventh set of silverware and a napkin.Our server was efficient but a little lacking in amenities such as pre-clearing soup and salad plates, especially since the table was too small for the group.Our soups and salads we're served quickly and we're good.All the entrees except mine were very good.I ordered Haddock French.The fish not fresh and was inedible for me.I was going to just eat the generous portion of linguine that came with it however the fish and the lemony French sauce were placed on top of the pasta.This ruined the pasta for me.The waitress did notice that I had not eaten my meal and offered to exchange it which was nice but at that point everyone else was finished with their meals so I politely declined.I expected that the meal would have been removed from the check.It wasn't.Everyone had dessert and some had coffees.Another opportunity to maybe comp my dessert came and went.Donna was busy chatting up bar patrons and sipping a little liquid with them.I paid and we left.What are the chances the next group dinner will be booked here by me?I have spent a fair amount of money at Perlo's and often referred people to them.However...... read more

We ordered their chicken parm family meal curbside delivery last night. Although I've been there several times before ordering off their regular dining room menu and thought the food was pretty good, my family and I were disappointed last night. The chicken was really tough and rubbery and the bread was hard as a rock. Their red sauce is good so the ziti was fine. We've been ordering from local restaurants 2-3 times a week during quarantine to support local small business, and I was shocked that they add automatically a 20% tip on all orders "to reward their wonderful kitchen staff!" We have no problem tipping and often tip well over 20%. However, it's usually for service, not food, and I assume they have a PPE loan to support payroll and pay kitchen staff as they normally would. Requiring someone to tip (more than 18%???) before they taste the meal feels unfair when you're just picking it up. They are the only restaurant we've ordered from so far that requires this. We are very grateful for and supportive of people working during this time. And we happily reward them. But making it a requirement for takeout when I assume the kitchen staff is making their normal pay seems like it should be optional. On the upside, the turnaround time was 10 minutes quicker than quoted. read more

I cannot speak to the taste of the meal or their service but can alert others to a bait and switch type of situation we encountered. We made reservations for 7 tonight, Thanksgiving evening, and arrived about 6:45 to a long line. We expected something like that since few other restaurants were open. At about 7:15, as we'd moved further into the bar area, I saw a pile of paper menus and took one to check on the silly name of the Chicken French that I anticipated ordering. That was when I saw that a special menu existed with solely 4 options, none of which we went to Perlo to order. There'd been no notice posted anywhere; there was no menu posted in the entryway, the person who took our reservation didn't mention a restricted menu, their website didn't speak to the change, and neither did their outdated Facebook page. We asked that our name be crossed off their reservation list and came home to our own turkey soup and salad. Certainly the loss of our 2-person table meant nothing to the owners on that busy evening, but someone dropped the ball in informing the public about their menu change. Shame! read more

Perlo is one of quite a few good choices for dinner in the East Rochester/Penfield area that I would recommend. Donna Perlo works very hard to make sure that all of her guests have a positive experience. They have a vast menu that is reasonably priced and it is loaded with plenty of great Italian American dishes to choose from. The portions are large and very well executed by a outstanding kitchen staff. I always look forward to whatever the chef has for daily specials here and I have never been disappointed by anything that comes out of the kitchen. I especially enjoy the fish fry and the clam chowder on Friday night. You can have your Jurassic Park sized fish either breaded or deep fried with their creamy and rich home made tarter sauce. I have no idea what they do to the chowder that makes it so yummy and better than everybody else but it is so good that I wish I could have a bigger bowl. This is a busy place and the earlier you get here the better. If you want to come after 6:00 I would highly recommend a reservation. If you are staying in one of the local hotels, these people would be glad to make you up a order to go anytime. They have a great full service bar and plenty of big screen tvs to watch the game on. So I received a Perlos gift card for my birthday in January. Have gone there several times and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Never had a chance to use it prior to the COVID shutdowns. Today, 7-21 I wanted to use it for a curbside takeout order. They said they can't accept it for take out. Total bad decision by them. So I will use it for a sit down when things get better but will never go back after that. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance of Perlos. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. The atmosphere is beautiful, your greeted as if you've been there a 100 times, service is above and beyond. The food is superb my veal French was tender, flavorful and sufficient portioned . The pasta tasted as if it came out of the kitchen freshly made. Sauce from a can is the best description. Lasagna was dry and flavorless. Chicken riggies needed more sauce to be edible. Chicken marsala was decent. Bolognese sauce was dry. We recently placed a pickup order at Perlo's as the dine-in option is obviously not an option right now due to coronavirus. The two entrees we ordered were both up charged $1 each as the website had a different price ($2 is not much but that's not the bad part). For the pickup order we were charged a mandatory 20% gratuity. Gratuity for who? Tips are for servers. I don't think that charging $8.00 is ethical to charge for a pickup order. Very unreasonable. As you can see in the photo I posted to this review; YES, the salads included with each entree were in fact that tiny. Iceberg lettuce is 99 cents at Wegman's for a whole head. Not to mention the lettuce was soggy and some leaves rotten. A small business in this time should be grateful they have customers supporting them at all and should reciprocate by following a professional and ethical standard. Will never return to Perlo's. She said there was no way it could have been the clams that made him sick because she has yet to get any other calls. After debating with her that maybe he was the first call, she asked if I would like a gift certificate to give them another chance. So I said yes, thinking we would just refrain from the clams next time, and I never got the gift certificate.
