So it was very difficult for me to find something to eat. I spent a lot of money for cheese quesadilla.That I could have got in middletown at the FOOD Shack custom made to order that would be twice as tasty for half the price. The high mark went to the hostesses who sat us without a reservation in a cute upstairs alcove. As long as we were out by six, and we were. I pass 5 other places to eat with nice ambiance. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and we had the chips, guac, queso, tacos and sticky ribs, generally food was hit or miss (more below). Service was attentive and friendly and the space was cozy inside of an old house. The guac came as a comically large portion, I kid you not there was at least 5-6 heaping icecream scoops worth of guac. It was pretty good and we didn't want to waste it since it doesn't keep well as a leftover, and this unfortunately impacted our appetite for the other food. For the queso, I asked for the bacon on the side because my friend is a vegetarian. It came on the side but they also -still- put bacon in the queso, which we discovered about halfway through because it was on the bottom. The queso was delicious but I docked a star for the bacon mixup. Sticky ribs were a huge portion and the meat fell off the bones, but had some charred bits that were a bit too hard for me. They were tasty but very sweet. We also tried some drinks, I tried a carrot ginger tequila drink and my friend had a tequila mocktail. They weren't bad, but they weren't good either. We stopped in here to grab dinner and were pleasantly surprised at how awesome the place was! They have lots of vegetarian options and our server was really great about asking questions if certain things were ok with the dishes we ordered. It was also cool that this was in an old historic house and the decor was really cool too. There's soft music playing in the background and it's easy to hear and talk while you're dining. Unfortunately, an otherwise good experience was ruined by a couple front of house employees talking about the 1% kitchen service fee. Apparently the restaurant cannot pay its kitchen staff and the customer is charged 1% for wage disparity, but 1% really doesn't make a difference for the staff. Came here on August 22nd with my boyfriend. He made reservations ahead of time as Summertime is quite busy here. Walking in, the space is cozy and warm. It felt like walking into someone's small home. The staff was so nice and we were seated immediately. Our server was so sweet. Not bad, I did actually enjoy it, and for Newport, it was pretty good! Out of all the tacos I've had in Newport, I'd rate these like a 7/10, but I'm also from California so I've had so many of these that were better and cheaper. 6.5/10. - Lalo Paloma, pretty good but not the most amazing one I've had. 7.5/10. - Mint Mojito. I came here as it was a stop on a food tour I was on. It used to be an old house and it definitely had that feel on the inside and outside. Once inside, it was very cool to see the festive area. The service was also very accommodating. I tried the sticky pork ribs. It was served with pickled red onions and cilantro I believe. The ribs were marinated in coca cola for hours and it was definitely noticed as the meat was very tender and succulent.
