Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and we had the chips, guac, queso, tacos and sticky ribs, generally food was hit or miss (more below). Service was attentive and friendly and the space was cozy inside of an old house. The guac came as a comically large portion, I kid you not there was at least 5-6 heaping icecream scoops worth of guac. It was pretty good and we didn't want to waste it since it doesn't keep well as a leftover, and this unfortunately impacted our appetite for the other food. For the queso, I asked for the bacon on the side because my friend is a vegetarian. It came on the side but they also -still- put bacon in the queso, which we discovered about halfway through because it was on the bottom. The queso was delicious but I docked a star for the bacon mixup. Sticky ribs were a huge portion and the meat fell off the bones, but had some charred bits that were a bit too hard for me. They were tasty but very sweet. We also tried some drinks, I tried a carrot ginger tequila drink and my friend had a tequila mocktail. They weren't bad, but they weren't good either. It's always a dice roll trying to find decent Mexican in New England, and while we enjoyed some of the dishes, I don't think we'd return.

Taqueria Tacos with Al Pastor. Not bad, 6.5/10.

Came here on August 22nd with my boyfriend. He made reservations ahead of time as Summertime is quite busy here. Walking in, the space is cozy and warm. It felt like walking into someone's small home. The staff was so nice and we were seated immediately. Our server was so sweet. She was super attentive and just great with conversation and giving us tips on what to order, which is always great. I love when the staff are passionate and informative about the food. We wanted guac, but she recommended a half serving since we were just two people, and offered to add salsa and keep the tostones with it too. Things we ordered: - Guacamole and salsa served with tortilla chips, tostones. Soooo good. I've never had tostones before, and I swear I could've eaten like 20 by myself. Delishhhh. 10/10. - Fish Tacos, pretty good. 7.5/10. Really yummy batter, tasted pretty fresh, and decent portion size. - Taqueria Tacos with Al Pastor. Not bad, I did actually enjoy it, and for Newport, it was pretty good! Out of all the tacos I've had in Newport, I'd rate these like a 7/10, but I'm also from California so I've had so many of these that were better and cheaper. 6.5/10. - Lalo Paloma, pretty good but not the most amazing one I've had. 7.5/10. - Mint Mojito. My boyfriend ordered this and it was pretty good! Overall, super yummy spot. Also, the bill wasn't too bad for Newport! I'd definitely come again, and again, and again.

We went here last night for a wedding party and had a wonderful time! The food was all very tasty and the highlights were definitely the fried avocado bites and short ribs. The drinks were delicious and the servers were all attentive and friendly! We would go back when we are in the area again!

Great food great drinks! There is a time limit on the tables, however so beware. We had Carne Asada, chips and guacamole, a rice bowl, chicken enchiladas, and various kinds of margaritas. Drinks were excellent. Service was OK. We were given the check without being asked if we wanted desserts so we assumed they wanted us to leave. Meanwhile there were empty tables outside. Hmmm

Perro is great. It's a very cool place. It's a little funky inside. The food is awesome. The sticky ribs and vegetables enchilada are very good. I love this place.

Margaritas. Sticky ribs. Avocado fries. That's all I need to say on repeat. Everything else is amazing too but those are must orders. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Reservations preferred but I usually show up for open time and haven't been denied a table or waited too long ever. In a cute house, style is very rustic. A must eat!

    Al pastor enchiladas, suiza enchiladas

Some of the best pork I have ever had in these enchiladas. Queso fundido was great and came with a huge basket of seasoned chips. Service was super friendly. Felt cozy in there.

I very much enjoyed my meal here. Highly suggest starting off with a Margarita, blood orange or watermelon. Then the sticky ribs appetizer, very nice flavors. The steak quesadilla was awesome, but the lobster tacos were perfection! Be ready to have a myriad of flavors burst in your mouth. The building is very quaint and the service was excellentl! Nice ambiance. Enjoy!

Good spot! Came here with family on a Friday night (table of 6) and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside looks like a cute house - with a couple tables. Service and Food was very good! We ordered guac to start (great to share!!) and when you check in on yelp they give you free salsa/chips. Everyone ordered quesadilla's - I tried the lobster quesadilla. It was good! Also tried Mexican corn - spicy but good. Parking can be tricky but overall would go back and recommend.

Perro Salado feels like a hole in the wall but it's a pretty busy restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. I really enjoyed the service. The waitress was attentive and very good about recommendations on the menu. The chips came with a generous portion size which was really nice to snack on. The guacamole was solid. The sticky pork ribs were tender and I would recommend for sure. The quesadilla and the empanadas were good but rather average compared to others. Overall a solid experience. I'd come back and try the other stuff on the menu.

    Guacamole- homemade!!!

Food was good. Ordered the mahi tacos though thought the slaw and pico del gallo should have more. Service was good. Nice atmosphere.

We recently visited this new establishment, which opened a few weeks ago in the former Hummingbird…read moreCafé space. The service was exceptional, and the menu boasts an impressive array of authentic Mexican dishes, including mole and pumpkin sauces--definitely not Tex-Mex. This is a much-needed addition to the local dining scene, as Rhode Island is not renowned for its Mexican or Tex-Mex options. Currently, Pero Solado is one of the few decent spots on the island, with a few more in the Providence and Central Falls area. Note that they do not have a liquor license, so you can enjoy Mexican sodas instead. Our meal consisted of guacamole and chips, carne asada, three tacos, and a side of beans. Everything was delicious; the beans were clearly homemade, and the tortillas were made from corn. The pricing was generally good, although the guacamole and chips at $10 seemed a bit steep. I highly recommend giving them a try to support another vibrant spot on Broadway. I'm looking forward to trying their breakfast offerings soon. First impressions is that they did a nice job at decorating this little spot, decor is great. Ordered a horchata, which you could tell was homemade and not from some pre-made mix, which of course made it taste that much more yummy. Main course I got was the chicken torta, which was flavorful and would be something I would order again:) Newport needs more Mexican food places that aren't the tired tex-mex style spots we have here. Give this spot a try!

The vibe is relaxing and casual with some sweet tunes in the background. Love their slaw great combo of the fresh veggies in the mix. They also offer free water, and there's a one-stall bathroom in the back, which was convenient. We ordered bowls for all three meals and overall the food was pretty good. I personally liked the pork and chicken bowls the best -- both had good flavor and were enjoyable. The steak, however, wasn't my favorite. It was pretty tough and seemed overcooked. On the bright side, the plantains were cooked perfectly and had an excellent flavor. Service was fast, which we appreciated, and they had a solid drink selection. We tried the local sweet tea, which was a nice touch. While this visit was a bit hit or miss food-wise, there's enough potential that we'd probably come back and try the burritos or tacos next time.
