I brought my little chihuahua to get her nails trimmed. The Latina lady in there was left to the back to get the guy (who did not even give us his name) and took my dog to the back, I quickly felt uneasy about that. I should have looked at the reviews before taking my Bella there. After what was about less than 5 minutes he comes back with my dog and reprimands us about how often her nails should be trimmed. I am just glad he did not make her bleed just like other in some of the posts. He also questioned us about the food we are feeding her and told us if we want to keep wasting our money at Petfood Express to be his guest then he continued on saying we should never give her Nextguard pill for fleas. All while he was promoting his products there. There is nothing wrong with promoting the products he carries in his shop but he could have done it differently, instead of trying to shame me and my partner for "spending too much money on her dog food"(which she loves anyways and it was only $5 difference from his price). I have been dealing with Albert and Pet Partners for years. I don't approve of anyone selling puppies and I know the store is small-but here is what many people do NOT know about Albert: Too many people DUMP unwanted kittens, cats and dogs on his doorstep and disappear. Albert NEVER turns away animals in need. He has found loving lifetime home for HUNDREDS of cats and dogs over the years, and supports efforts of individuals who rescue the many abandoned animals in our neighborhood. I know Albert to have a good and compassionate heart and he does the best he can in a hard situations. He must work 100 hours a week because he is always there when I go in. I live about a 5 minute walk from this place and thought I'd stop by and buy my pup some food. I walked in, there was a customer at the desk (with his dog on the counter) and an employee chatting. The moment I walked in, the barking commenced; not from the dog on the counter, but from the dogs they have cooped up in these tiny little cages. In that instant, the dog jumped off the counter ran into the middle of the street and the employee just watched as the customer and a few bystanders tried to catch the dog. Watched from a window, mind you.This place is tiny and crammed, the dogs they have for adoption look very unhappy and not to mention, highly unsocialized. I got a bad vibe from this place. Terrible store. I've taken my boxer here two times to get groomed. After the first time, she came out very fast and seemed to want to leave this place fast. She was practically pulling me out the door as I was paying for the services. I gave it another shot about 2 months later and actually bought a flea pill that they sell. I gave my boxer the pill and she had huge side effects within a couple hours. Her left eye swelled up so much it looked like she got punched in the eye. Also, her coat began shedding tremendously leaving many blotches and bald spots on her ribs and stomach. I live a block away and when I take her for walks, she seems so frightened to go anywhere near the entrance on broadway. She doesn't even like to walk by this store. I definitely do not recommend this place. Dogs have a sixth sense and I trust my dogs sense. read more

Ehhh.. I am really torn on what kind of review to give this place. I want to give it negative 89237465 stars. This is why: I do not feel that the animals for sale are treated very well. I purchased a kitten here several years ago. The kitten was ill with a respiratory infection and died within 10 days of purchase. I was devastated, as my boyfriend and I got the kitten to cheer us up from some rough circumstances that we were dealing with, and the death of the kitten kind of put me over the edge. I called Pet Parnter's just to let them know what had happened so they could check the other kittens, and I was told that no refunds would be given. I was not expecting, nor did I ask for a refund. I stated this, and reiterated that I was just concerned for the health of the other kittens for sale. I was again told that nothing could be done and hung up on. The vet that I had taken the kitten to told me that ill kittens from Pet Partner's are not uncommon. The vet was preparing some kind of documentation, maybe building a case against Pet Partner's and wanted me to write down my experience, but I was too upset from everything going on and I never did. I wish that I had. buuuuutt.... It's in my 'hood and is easy and convenient to get to and they have amazingly low prices on frontline and advantage. I still go here for the cheap frontline, but I kind of hate myself every time I do. Seriously, I think it's $27 for the pack that is normally $40. Something like that. Times are tough, ok? If I could give no stars, I would. They shaved my dog raw and will not return phone calls. This has caused my dog great discomfort and required a trip to the vet and antibiotics. It's not over yet - my poor dog isn't doing very well. This has gone on for days and still, nothing. Really? This is your BUSINESS! Caring for animals! CARE, THEN! I'm pretty sure they drugged my dog there. Her haircut was fine but when I got her back she seemed very "off". It wasn't my dog... Like she wasn't acting right. It took about 2-3 days for her to get back to normal. This isn't the first time she acted this way after returning from there. I will NOT be back. Store is small, poorly organized and dingey but I always went their bc it is 2 blocks from my house and I like to support indie businesses. 2 employees I have seen there so far are middle aged men who are uncomfortably aggressive with their poor sales tactics. Very awkward. When checking out I saw they overcharged me. When I pointed it out they said the price has changed and they didn't change the sign yet. Really? This place has been notoriously known for selling unhealthy, puppy mill puppies for many years. I went in one day with my little dog to buy some frontline, because my normal place was out. My dog has never physically asked me to pick her up before, but she was clawing at my side as if she was scared for her life. The place smelled like pee and poop so bad that I got sick to my stomach. Imagine that wet dog smell and throw a bunch of urine and poop on top of that smell. The poop puppies were crammed in dirty, tiny cages. I felt so bad for them. I wanted to buy them all! When I got home I was getting ready to put the frontline on my dog, except when i opened it all of the frontline had been dried up (or something). After researching this, turns out the product was years past its "use" date. Go figure. This place makes me sad and my heart hurt. Deplorable conditions for the animals who live there...so I dont even want to know what goes on in the back room where they groom everyone elses pets. read more

Our neighbor's cat had 5 kittens 2 months ago. Our neighbor was unable to keep all 5, so they brought 3 of the kittens in last week to Pet Partners & spoke to Albert. After finding out about the kittens, I expressed an interest in 1 or 2 of the kittens. My neighbor gave me the contact info of Albert, I called him explained the situation, he said: "good for you"...then just sat silently on the phone. It was kind of weird... For the last two years I have spent roughly $200. A month for the up keep of my animal "Molly" . This year I started noticing that the practices at Pet Partner 1062 E. Broadway were less than desirable but I wasn't aware that this store owner disregards the law and has no regard for animals or consumers . IN March 2017 I purchased an item for over $70. trusting the recommendations the store owner however upon getting home and reading the ingredients I realized it wasn't up the standard of dog food I have for My animal and returned merchandise within 2dys of purchase . And within 3 business my account would receive refund now mind you this chair occurred first week of March . It is now April 21 2017 and I have yet to receive my monies , I have gone to the store on more than 5 occasions spoken to the Owner, provided banking statements , filed complaints with both Federal Trade Commission & Better Business Bureau. Served the Owner with a letter of demand for funds and nothing has motivated this store owner to do what any decent person would do , I was appalled upon reviewing the YELP review from people and upon contacting local animal authorities & business complaints to see the type of person I had been doing business with. So please for the welfare of animals everywhere and local consumers avoid this business , let's not let them profit any more and to Albert the Owner I say shame on you , may you go out of business quickly !!!! read more

Well a lot of the reviews seen here will tell you the story, so I won't repeat what has been said. I can't recommend the grooming service. My dog came back with a cut nipple after the grooming. He looked great and the price was good, but injuing a pet is unforgivable. I could over look that except the same thing happened to my girlfriends dog there too. I have a friend on one of the Shih Tzu groups on Facebook and she brought her 2 healthy girls to this groomer. When she got them home both of their eye area started swelling and turning red. They were in so much pain and even now after a month are still not back to themselves. I can't imagine what else they did to these babies. PLEASE do not even think of taking your pets here! She had to seek veterinarian care and the owner refuses to even take her calls. It is very upsetting that someone that is in a profession to handle dogs is this incompetent. I took my pup to get groomed here today. He was really matted due to past groomers telling us he was too aggressive to shave down (he's 10 pounds???) Albert and the groomers here at Pet Partners not only got all of his matted fur under control, they also were very patient. My pup was very happy and excited (and smelled extremely good) when we picked him up. He usually is so traumatized after getting groomed. Albert also recommended food that would help his health and a brush that would help with his very curly fur. I love Pet Partners and Albert is a great and honest businessman. While the guy who runs/owns Pet Partners is an absolute doll and most of the products sold are on the cheaper end, I don't know that the kittens are getting the best care. We got a little one a few months ago as a present and have had nothing but health problems. He came home sick in the first place, and the vet we took him to (and continue taking him to..) basically basically said he gets a lot of complaints from new pet owners that bought from PP. I don't know if it's too many of them to an area or what but it turns out they were all sick. read more

I needed to buy some dog food, which would be a simple enough task if someone hadn't spiked the crack in Long Beach yesterday. I was about to pull into a parking spot when all of a sudden this crazy psycho guy drops into my world. He ran across the street in front of my car as he screamed at this other guy who was entering the neighboring bar, "You better not f*cking go in there! I'll f*cking kill you!" This concerned me. But the expression on the other guys face was truly priceless. He not only went in there, he went in there really really fast. I proceeded to park behind the neighboring laundromat just as the crazy psycho guy ran into the laundromat. He jumped on top of the washing machines and began to scream at the people and throw laundry all over the place, causing general terror among the patrons. I stood there and quietly watched for a moment, wondering what it takes to throw someone else's laundry across the room, and what would I have done if it were my laundry being flung about the room. I went on about my business to buy my dog food. I love this little neighborhood pet store. It might seem a little dark and crowded, and parking is lacking, but the guys who work there are great. They're always there to help with any of your pet needs, and are very knowledgeable (something you can't always find at PetSmart). And this store carries Wellness (also something you can't find at PetSmart), an all-natural brand of dog and cat food. See, my little terrier has a sensitive tummy, and pukes every time I feed him any other brand, poor little guy. I never would have discovered this brand, and would have to clean up puke every day if it hadn't been for PetPartners. Anyways, I write this partly as a warning to all of you readers out there: Stay away from the crack in Long Beach. If you insist on partaking in this awful drug, go somewhere else so I can buy my dog food in peace. That is all. read more

Interesting little pet store. Mostly catered towards your typical four-legged friends of cats and dogs but they do have a very small fish section. They had some puppies up for adoption and they all seemed pleasant for the most part besides one that seemed downright vicious. I believe it is the sole responsibility of the owner to make sure they get out of the cages at least 2 a day to run around and be dogs otherwise they aren't much better off than the situations they came from. read more

The owner is very unorganized. We took our dog to their grooming service. They said she would be done in 3 hours. We called at 4 hours and they said "she is almost done". 3 hours turned into 9 hours. DO NOT GET YOUR PET GROOMED HERE. The owner was very rude and would not apologize, he just made excuses. So I decided to never go there again. Recently I gave them another chance, and ordered some dog food to be delivered. Same guy said: "it will be there in 20 minutes". 2 calls later and 4 hours later, the food arrived with no credit card receipt. They are a big waste of time. read more

We got our cat Dexter from here and he is now the love of our lives. I think the search is over for us. We found our regular groomer for Juku. Having a shih tzu tends to make it hard finding a good place for grooming. They cleaned her up really well, The nails are too sharp, her coat isn't dry after a couple of days and they trimmed the important areas for us very well. read more

These guys (Albert & Tom) are great! We have been going here for a long time, first with our Jack Russell and now with our rescue. They always go out of their way to help. Neither of our dogs really like any other groomers, but they both love it here. They are small business owners not out there to rip you off. I agree that the pets there look sad and lethargic, but he takes them in from folks who A) Either found them. B) They have been left behind at a vet or groomer & the owners never came back! Whether this is TRUE or NOT, it says something to have the decency to NOT PUT THEM DOWN! They are fed, loved, & have a roof over them! That says a lot! None of us can afford, and/or willing to do this. So, why HATE? This is more than most do, so have some kindness and empathy for the folks that can and do! It's not easy, I'm sure and more so difficult w/ the Public Criticism & Scrutiny that follows! To me that deserves recognition. At least there not Strays on the streets and/or are not being put down!
