DONT DO IT!!!! I was recommended this place by two different people, and even after reading all the horrible reviews I went against my better judgement and took my shih tzu in for the basics. They're super friendly on the phone, and even in person.... but I got this eary feeling as soon as I walked in. Again, I still went with the "recommendations" from my friends and decided to leave him anyway. When he was ready for pick up, I strolled to the back to take a look at their items for sale. I took a peek where they were grooming the other pets and the first thing that came to my mind was IT'S A FREAKIN SWEAT SHOP!!!!!!!!!! My poor dog was shaking so bad when they gave him to me. We put him on the leash and he LITERALLY ran out of the store. It took about 2-3 days for him to stop shaking. I'm NEVER going back.... and you shouldn't either!!!! Don't let the low prices fool you, you get what you pay for. read more

I wanted to like this place. I really did. Their Frontline and premium dog food are cheaper than anything else in the area, and I live less than two blocks away. As much as I wanted to like this place, I just couldn't. My dog was out of food and it was late in the evening, so I had no choice. I've never felt that guilty before. This place is a sewer. The store was cramped, smelled like feces, was full of obvious puppy mill puppies (some of which seemed much older than the signs indicated) that just seemed lethargic. My dog wouldn't even get near the place, since the squawking of the birds on the second floor terrified her. The staff seemed nice enough, but the owner took salesmanship past pushy, and he took our 90-second interaction as an opportunity to find out where I usually buy my food and talk trash about that business' owner. It was just a skanky experience, overall. For the record, the vet upstairs (who apparently rents from the Pet Partners owner) is unaffiliated, inexpensive, and a nice guy. I will never, ever, buy anything at that pet store again, though. read more

Our good neighbors did us a favor and took our cat in with their own to get groomed. When we got her back, she had a nick on he face under one of her eyes. I figured it was just a small slip or she wiggled so my partner and I let it go. Then, a couple of days later, I'm cuddling my little fur baby and I notice that her nails have been clipped so short they must have hurt like hell when they did it. I can understand slipping on one nail because the cat is unfamiliar (mind you, my cat is very mellow and sweet), but all of them? Every single time a nail was clipped the cut my fur baby until she bled? That's purposeful torture. This place should be shut down. read more

I have been to this store a couple times to buy Frontline, and the other reviewers are correct in saying they sell it pretty cheap. However, this place makes me sick to my stomach. I am devastated to see that they make money off of selling animals, and they sell them sick and diseased to boot. They tried to push cats on me every time I went in there, but I assumed they were for adoption, not for sale. Based on the reviews of people who have bought dogs and cats there, these people are selling animals which most likely come from puppy and kitten mills. That is even more despicable than selling animals from registered breeders. DO NOT BUY ANIMALS period, especially not from these jerks. RESCUE, RESCUE, RESCUE! And from what I can tell, their grooming and vet services are an utter nightmare. I highly recommend you don't support a local merchant who is obviously unethical. There is a fantastic groomer near pet partners called Pet Launder and I found the place to be cleaned, well run, and the staff were friendly. Go there instead. I came across this place due to a friend purchasing here kitten from here. I was happy for my friend, but not pleased with the store. It's a small place that is over crowded & they SELL animals who look sad & not so healthy. They offered my friend a free deworming for her kitten, and I'm glad they did! They vet who helped them also told them the kitten had other issues. Not a surprise. I also advised my friend to purchase cat litter from a different store because the brand I buy is organic & biodegradable. The store clerk then stopped me & asked me the brand name & offered to order a shipment for me to buy from them. I told him I didn't know the name (which I didn't at the time) & I noticed the didn't carry it. He was a little harsh & accusatory. He kind of pressured my friend into buying a lot of stuff that she didn't need. The only items necessary were the litter box kit & a collar. I don't like chains, but there is a large store that always has my personal preferences for my cat. I would steer clear of this location for the smell & cramped space alone. read more

I'm not too sure why this place has so many one star reviews... My partner and I live right around the corner, which makes it extremely convenient. The store itself is very small so you should not expect to find an assortment of pet supplies in here. It's great if you need to buy food, treats, or get the dogs groomed. Now I'll explain our experience with Pet Partners. We started going here to buy food for our three pups. They used to sell this brand of food our dogs loved, but they ended up taking it off the shelf. That left us in a bit of a situation because our youngest dog is really picky about her food. The employees who work here helped us out by giving us samples of different food. We found one that all 3 of our dogs liked thanks to their help. I think the people that work here genuinely care for your pet. I am very impressed with the level of service I have received so far, and it is that level of service that will continue to bring me back. read more

This is where I take my Walter Saurus to get groomed up nice and pretty. He is a mammoth beast that is afraid of women (go figure) and the staff here, as far as I know, is men only. The staff is small and you see them regularly, especially the main two guys, who will remember you. Recently, I took the mutt in to get groomed up on a Friday... the next day he developed a rash (not related to the grooming) and decided the best thing for him to do was to lick himself senseless. Imagine the smell of dog slobber x 100,000. It was amazing I didn't puke allover him. So, after a much too long weekend, he went to the vet where he was healed. I took him back to Pet Partners, and they were very gracious in charging me less than half of what I'd just paid a couple days before. I really didn't expect them to do that since his issue wasn't their fault, and he smelled horrendous. But, they remembered he was just there and my wallet was already hurting. 1 grooming plus 1 vet visit plus another grooming = sad Zizi. So, they were sweet and took care of my stinky bear-dog. This most recent visit I got to see them take him out of the cage up top, which is highly amusing to me. Walter is 141 lbs, and rarely gets picked up, let alone put on a top shelf. Ahh, good times. The prices are very good. They charge about half of what the other shops do for grooming a very furry beast that is 1/2 dog and 1/2 Cadillac El Dorado. The dog food prices are better than PetSmart or PetCo., plus you get the enjoyment of supporting a small business. I give only 4 stars instead of 5 because they sell pets. I don't like the whole puppy mill thing, let alone the purchasing of designer dogs when there's many lovable cats and dogs at the dog pound or rescues. But, everyone is entitled to their choices, and I can't resist petting the stupidly cute puppies when I visit. Good place, even though when Walter sees where we're at, he doesn't want to get out of the car. (Same goes for the Vet and the LaunderPet where I get the pleasure of washing his junk myself.) read more

I'm the proud mommy of two very sweet kitties, Obi Wan and Vader. And when my little jedis are hungry, in need of a vet, or a manicure... I hop over to Pet Partners. I love Pet Partners for many reasons. It's a neighborhood place and I love to support local business. The owners and employees are incredibly helpful, honest, and friendly. They have a great selection of products for birds, cats, dogs, fish, or any little buddy you have running around your house. It's small, so you can't get lost, and it's close to home. Some of the food is a little pricey, but it's up to you what line you put your pet on. Dr. Hegazy, the vet next door, is reasonably priced and his staff is fantastic. I got both of my cats fixed, nails trimmed, pain management, and flea meds for $250. That's a great deal. I recommend Pet Partners to any pet owner, especially new mommys and daddys. What a wonderful store! I have literally no idea what most of these negative reviewers are talking about. The folks who work here, especially Paul, are as friendly as can be and really helpful. When I bought a huge bag of litter, he offered to carry it to my car. When the store didn't have my usual cat food in stock, he recommended some alternatives. They offer free delivery of food and litter since I live in the neighborhood. Yes, the place is small and smells like animals. It's a pet store. Don't be so precious. What do you expect it to smell like? Yes, the poor cats and dogs are in rough shape. That's what happens when you get abandoned on the street by your former owners. As someone who has volunteered in a rescue shelter for years, I'll just say that rescue animals are often very sick and in bad shape when the get brought in. Their outward appearance doesn't tell you how they have been treated at the store. The pets at Pet Partners looked a lot better than some of the dogs and cats that I've seen brought in. Moreover, as someone who has adopted two rescue cats who were wormy and scrawny and flea-bitten when I got them, I can say rescues make wonderful pets. Pet Partners fits an extraordinary amount of stuff into a very small space. I highly recommend it. CAVEAT: I have never used them as a groomer, so I can't speak to those reviewers who have negative grooming comments. Maybe they're right? I don't know. We had an incredible experience with Pet Partners. They squeezed us in for a last-minute grooming appointment for our dog, Mochi, and our fluffy husky could not have looked better. They did the most thorough job of furminating her of any groomer we've been to (she seriously looked 10 lbs thinner) and were so sweet with our dog. On top of that, they were affordable and we were able to purchase Mochi's "Taste of the Wild" dog food for $10 less than what we normally pay up in L.A. Next time we take our dog down for a dog beach day, we're definitely stopping again at Pet Partners to get her groomed and pick up supplies. read more

Took my dog in for a wash and cut today, expecting it to take 2-3 hours at most. It ended up taking every bit of five hours. The haircut seemed fine at first, albeit a little bit choppy and uneven, but I just rolled my dog over to rub his belly and found that he has patches of fur completely missing in random spots, and he has red abrasions from the clippers scraping his skin. The shop is cramped and tiny, the shop owner is tactless and rude. I feel terrible for leaving my dog with them. I'll never be coming back here for any reason. read more

I brought my dog in for grooming the owner wasn't there, I left my dog with a woman that worked there at the same time another woman brought her dog, she didn't have an appointment me. When I picked up my dog I paid $55.00 for bath grooming. Owner went to get my dog, it was taking a long time and I went to see what was going on they said wait Rudely, some lady brought my dog out, and he hadn't had his hair cut. The cats, kittens, puppies, and dogs are rescues and are available for adoptions. It's unclear to me why people are commenting that they appear to be from puppy mills because they are obviously not pure breeds. The service here is great and the owner is knowledgable about the products. They deliver my dog food monthly to my residence for free because I am local. They have the best prices for premium dog food. I would have to pay $10- $15 more per bag at other places. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for the lowest price for your premium dog food, treats or toys. read more

The owners of this store are so genuine, this is a great local business. It's down the street from home too, so it's ridiculously convenient to drop in and buy dog treats and toys. I took my dog there to get groomed for the first and last time. It wasn't a horrible experience, but I wasn't impressed at all. While my dog has all his vaccinations and the paperwork to show for it, I was never asked for any of it. This tells me that they probably don't ask anyone for it--doesn't seem very safe for my dog. The owner wasn't very organized--he had to flip through pages and pages of used paper to find a blank piece of paper to have me write my name and phone number down on. He asked me several times what type of service I needed for my dog, which tells me he wasn't listening the first few times I told him. This place is right around the corner from me, but I'd rather drive clear across town for a cheaper groom and a more organized establishment. Their prices on Frontline are super cheap, so that may be the only thing I ever go there for. The store it self is rather unkempt and seems like they don't clean it on a daily basis. The owner was super nice, so he gets points for that, at least. This place is convenient and the owners are nice, and if you don't care about your dog being in the cleanest of environments, then go for it. I feel like my dog will get a much safer and cleaner environment just a few blocks down the street. It's certainly not the worst place in town, but it's far from the best. read more

I've only ever visited the downstairs of this place until today. A friend wanted to see the birds they have upstairs. I had no idea there was an upstairs. I was shocked at what I encountered up there. The place was crowded with cages which were filled with all sorts of birds. There were large parrots in small cages that were stacked one upon the other leaving them in partial darkness (the only light they received was that of the light bulbs overhead). Then there were the rabbits in the back room, also in cages, with wire floors. Nothing to gnaw on as rabbits enjoy doing. Imagine being locked in a cage with a wire floor and being barefoot. Also, the mice looked sickly and the poor reptiles suffered the same sad accommodations. I had enough and needed to leave. I made a vow to myself to report them immediately. upon second thought, I've decided to write them a letter instead to give them the chance to tend to their animals. However, I will follow up and will report them to PETA and/or any other organization for inhumane treatment of animals should I find that nothing has been done. Shame on Pet Partners. Hello My Cat pass away a year ago. So I decided to adopt a cat from pet partners. This poor little cat was facing the wall in his cage and not fixed at the age of 16 months of age. It took him about 6 months to get use to me. The owner said that the cat was only there for a couple of months. But I think he was there for a lot longer. With lots of love he is the best little guy ever. People are always saying how gross and the poor animal's in that store. Well people adopt those animals and give them a loving home and get them out of that hell hole. It's not the animals fault when owners give them . owner was nice to me. read more

Yes, they sell puppies, and who knows if they come from a puppy mill or not? But all i DO know is that my dog loves going to the pet partners. I swear if he ever ran away from home he would go straight there. He even barks at me when i go th the liquor store and albert is not there to greet him! Someone mentioned that it was creepy that Albert the owner calls the dogs "babies", but its not. He has a genuine affection for the dogs that come in. My only gripe is that i wish they carried tidy cat brand litter. I know its not natural, but it works best for multi cats. Yes they try to make you buy stuff, but they are running a business. what do you expect? I would do the same thing if i owed my own business. A lot of the kittens they sell ARE rescues too. i know because my friend repeatedly dropped off ferrel street kittens to the owner. (my dog is healthy, happy and an ideal weight) He practically jumped down my throat (the scary looking old dude) insisting I buy HIS dog food instead, how dare I let my dog have a say so in what he eats and that I need to be a better dog owner because of what he eats (Blue Buffalo by the way, wtf!) I have had nothing but great experiances with pet partners. I started going there after we bought our dog from an animal shelter 7 years ago. It was right around the corner from my apartment. We have since moved (over 30 min away) and I still drive all the way over there just to take my dog there. I have tried to take him to 4 other places for grooming and as soon as he hits the door he puts on the breaks and throws a fit. At pet partners he goes right in, walks around and it totally calm. I will be the first to agree that their store is small BUT it is downtown Long Beach where space is hard to come by. And come on people it's a pet store not a perfume counter....ofcourse its going to smell bad. In highschool I worked at a petco and that place smelled bad too. The owner has always been nice to me and knows my dogs name by heart. I love pet partners. read more

I get my german shepherd groomed here and seriously, THEY ARE THE BEST! After my dog has had his bath and de-shedding, he easily goes an entire month or more before he starts shedding again which is a BIG DEAL if you own a german shepherd. SO WORTH EVERY PENNY! The owner is always friendly and helpful and Ricardo (the groomer) is amazing! If you have a German SHEDDER, you definitely need to go in! LIFE CHANGING. :) read more

I have never had a pet groomed here and my reviews are based on my own experiences. The main guy who works here is so incredibly helpful despite the fact that the store is usually quite busy and he's dealing with multiple customers at once. The first time I went in he spoke to me at length about healthy cat foods and gave me several samples to try. Lately I've been going in for aquarium supplies and it's been a pleasure to deal with Pet Partners. Today he even tested my aquarium water for free and spoke to me at length about how to try to heal my sick Betta fish and properly set up his new home and medicate him. Yes the place smells like animals, but never poopy or like ammonia. I highly doubt the animals they sell are puppy mill pets as they are often visibly aged. read more

I have heard and read good and bad things about Pet Partners. My experience started out as a bad one...but Alberto went the extra mile to satisfy me as a customer and new pet owner. let me make a long story short: I bought a kitten from Pet Partners. I immediately took it next door to the DVM. The pet shop paid for the first visit. I was excited that I had bought such a cute and healthy kitty. The Vet gave my kitty her first shots, etc. By the time for my kitty's second set of shots came due she had developed a rash on her head. The vet diagnosed my kitty with mange. He gave her her first treatment, (at 45.00) . The cat would need 6 more visits at the same price.I was so mad. I thought I had a healthy cat. Now I find out its not so healthy. I immediately went next door to Pet Partners and spoke to Alberto. His first reaction was...."So what? It's five weeks later and your kitty could have got it anywhere. " I said fine, let's talk about it later, since the store was busy and I didn't want to make a scene. I returned later that afternoon and asked Alberto what he was going to do? His response was heart warming. He offered to give my kitty all the baths she needed to cure the mange. I was sooo happy. I was going to save over 300 bucks. In addition Alberto gave me a months worth of hard and soft food and a few toys. I have been a loyal customer ever since. My Kitty is healthy happy and a Pet Partner success! Even though some of pet Partner's prices are high, you get what you pay for. That's why I go only to Pet Partners. Plus, I live a block away, that doesn't hurt either. Pet Partners has my cat's flea med (Advantage less than 9lb) for a very reasonable price. For that reason I will ALWAYS purchase from PPartners. The staff was super nice and even gave me an armful of free samples of cat food and offered to deliver the flea med to my work! Now that, my friend's, is a great service that i can take advantage of. I visited Pet Partners a long time ago (2 years) and purchased my little buddy Dexter here. He is a major part of our lives now and has one of the greatest personality's ever. A mixed brown tabby that loves to play and seems to understand his role in our family. I don't know what we would do if anything ever happened to him and I'm thankful to have had the opportunity to purchase him and take him home the same day. That is why I didn't go to a rescue. I guess what I'm trying to say is that they must do a great job in tending to the pets there until they find a permanet home or Dexter wouldn't be so freaking cocky. It used to be very close by so it was great for that. This was the place where it was great to get the nails clipped. The staff/owner always very friendly and helpful, the little ones would always get a treat. When I had a question he would suggest different options. There's always a variety of items to choose from, food(dog/cat/bird/fish etc..) I didn't give it 4 or 5 *'s since the puppies and kittens in there either seemed sick, lonely, lethargic whatever it may had been, it was sad. The smell also was little funky, but I was only there briefly for what I was looking for. Being that I was able to find what I needed, it was a close walk, it was very friendly. 3 stars for me. read more
