BEWARE! Bought a parakeet from here for my kids just over a month ago. Beautiful bird but we started noticing he had some kind of buildup on his feet and around his beak. After taking him to the vet we had to have him put down because he was infested with burrowing mites and even with proper treatment the bird would not have much of a life(his beak was chipping away). Now I get to explain to my kids why their pet is no longer with us. Will never EVER shop here again. Disgusting. read more

These two stars are for the helpfulness and attitudes of the two PetCo associates who assisted me. The three absent stars are for the manager on duty; specifically her rude attitude towards me. We went in to pick our first Beta fish. My children looked at each one of the least expensive kind, and they picked their favorite. It was marked on the side as a male veil tail, the sign said these were $3.99. After we paid, the total seemed high, so I checked my receipt and they charged me for a $9.99 fish. It was mislabeled, but instead of accepting their mistake, they chose another fish for us. We were disappointed but accepted it. Then for the return the manager was super rude, ignoring my question and repeated her instructions like I was a child on her last nerve. I know we checked out just as they were closing, but that is no reason to be disrespectful and rude. Next time we will go to Kahoots. read more

I seriously love this place Always clean & the staff is always helpful. I've purchased four leopard geckos from this place & they have grown healthy & strong. With any questions I have about them I know I can come in at anytime & get help. The service is always fantastic, they are helpful & work very fast. I come in about three times a week & they already know what we need. Tom is the absolute best! He knows a lot about reptiles & has really helped out with anything we needed. The dog is clean, his nails are trimmed, and he smells like the perfume aisle at Macy's. Fast, easy, and relatively inexpensive.

I came in for crickets. I politely asked the manager V for some crickets while she was helping someone in line (during a pause). She came across very rude. Typically I wouldn't complain; sometimes people are having a bad day; but this is the 2nd time. I'm not sensitive to this either. I felt like I was being scolded. Everyone else at the store is chill which is why I'm giving 2 stars. Hopefully V takes it down a notch. A store is only as good as its manger and the time they set. Guess I'll have to drive a bit farther to PetsMart for my pet care products. read more

This isn't for the Petco so much as it is for the Petco GROOMING Center. Kat is AWESOME!!! I can't believe the torture my poor little Jolie has gone through while in DC going to the Petco (Cleaveland Park) or Petsmart (Potomac Yards, VA). They BUTCHERED her at those places. But the other day, I took her to Kat and she came back to me looking like the cutest little fluffy poodle I've ever seen in my life! Kat seriously worked wonders! Somehow Jolie didn't even seem traumatized or phased by the experience. Kat took her in the same day I called and had her ready within a couple of hours! The Cleaveland Park Petco used to wait until I came to pick her up and had ME help the guy do all the grooming! I'm so relieved to have found a great groomer for affordable prices. I HIGHLY recommend Kat to groom your pet, especially if you have a finicking scaredycat little dog like mine. *I wrote that a while back, mistakenly posting it as "petsmart". Petco itself is fine but i really dont like the groomers of this location's petco. Last time, i took my golden for a wash and he came out not even smelling good. They usually do a spray afterwards. He felt dirty still. Now this time, I called for another appt to give them another chance, and this groomer named Anita picked up. I was about to set up an appt for 12 pm but I told her that I will book and bring my dog in at 12 but if anything happens, I will cancel before 12. The reason for that is because my husband texted me at the same time, asking me not to bring my dog in because he is driving our "older" car to work today and he wanted our dog to be in the older car instead of our new cars due to my dog's intense shedding. I was trying to talk him into using the newer car but with a crate, so I told the groomer that I will cancel if anything (if i cant persuade my husband), and right away, Anita assumes that I am shopping around for cheaper prices and said "okay well I will not book you or confirm you for 12 then because while it is fine that you want to shop around for cheaper prices, although i know we are the cheapest around, you'll be taking another spot for another pup, soo.." well okay fine, cancel me then, you not only lost 95 bucks for Petco today, but a customer for life read more

There is no way that the employee in question was "smothering" a cat, during business hours, in broad daylight. Whoever accused him obviously doesn't know about cats because oftentimes, cats like small spaces and being snuggled. The employee was likely giving the cat a little TLC (which they honestly need more of) and this lady walks in and freaks out over nothing. I'm sure there is video footage as well that could put this whole thing to rest. It's sad that these people are trying to ruin someone's life over a situation they honestly know nothing about. read more

POOR OVERALL EXPERIENCE WITH DOG TRAINER--(Anthony). I waited for 3 weeks for Anthony to give me a call to let me know when level 2 would start. I called the store on several occasions to talk with him to get some kind of time frame,, only to be told that Anthony would call, and let me know. Maybe he never got any of the messages....Finally, after growing more frustrated by not knowing anything, I went to the store to talk to the store manager, and was told by another dog trainer(Tom) that 3 weeks is not unreasonable to wait, and that Anthony was probably trying to get more dogs for the next class. I can understand that, but by not communicating with me, I was felt like I was being cheated and taken advantage of. (After all, I paid for ((Level 1 and 2 in advance) Finally, Anthony called to let me know about the class start date. After starting level 2 of the puppy training, I thought things would improve. However, after walking around the store for at least 20 minutes with my puppy, waiting for week 2 of level 2 to start, I found out that there is no class that day, because Anthony had a wedding to go to. I didn't receive a call, a voicemail message, or anything letting me know of this ahead of time. I found out after rushing from a long day at work, and taking my dog there. COMPLETELY INCONSIDERATE --- NOT ONCE, BUT SEVERAL TIMES. My poor overall experience with Anthony at this location, does not reflect my experience with the rest of the personnel that I've encountered there. I only go there for grooming now. read more

This petco made a big deal about me buying two parakeets and refused to let me buy them without buying all these extra things. And when I got the register to pay, an employee didn't want to hand me my two birds and it was obvious that she had shaken the box with my two pet birds in it and the birds were very nervous and upset. This is the closest Petco to my house but now, I go out of the way to go to Petco outside of my area because this Petco has poor customer service. read more

Very very bad customer service. I bought 3 little fish with water test. The shop assistant said the water was fine. Just need to add 2-3 fish at one time and to check if they're ok. After 2 days, I found out one of them wasn't that active like the other two. And 4 more days later, it's dead. So I had the fish sand the back to the store to exchange. And the cashier looks like thirty-ish lady said she need the water sample to process the exchange. I told her they did the water test on the same day that I bought the fish. And she just said it's the policy, we need to know how it dies. I was like if my water had problem how come the other 2 fish are fine? And she was very impolite. I went to check their water tank there's one dead fish in the tank. Bacteria spreads fast in the water. Maybe just stop selling the sick fish. And take good care of the lives there! read more

I usually love coming here because the staff is super friendly and informative on most topics. But today, I overheard a blonde girl encouraging a family to buy a betta fish because they don't need much room at all to survive. The family had one of those tiny tanks, less than 0.8 gallons and she was saying how a betta was the only fish that could live in one of those. Sorry, but that's just sad and horrible. Bettas need minimum 3 gallon tanks with a filter and heater... just because they're smaller and "cheaper" fish doesn't mean their quality of life should be any less. Super disappointed in hearing them promote that. read more

Decided to stop by this petco because they offer the self service dog wash. I called to confirm and no one mentioned I needed his rabies proof. Luckily they accepted photo of proof. I took my son to help me with the wash and after I was done, a rude employee grooming another pet said, " next time no kids allowed in the self wash." I respect all rules and policies but I don't respect you talking down to me like im your child. I've been a customer of petco since 2009 and have spent A LOT of money there, but this incident left a bad taste in my mouth. No one appeared to be happy and treated me like they we're doing me a favor. Even my 11 year old son noticed and asked why they were so rude. It's pretty sad when a child notices rudeness. The petco in San Dimas which I normally shop at is night and day compared to this one. San Dimas employee's are always eager to help and with a smile on their faces. Hopefully chino employees get trained in customer service and have better communication when asked for services or questions. WILL NOT BE RETURNING. read more

Petco groomers are best especially Anita and Britney. Anita has been grooming both of my doggies for almost two years. I am very happy with the special work and caring. Went there to purchase a parakeet for our son. Found one we liked, asked cashier for some assistance and she said someone would meet us by the birds. 10 minutes later I go back up and see the cashier and another employee kicking back chatting, when they saw me coming one of them immediately moves to help(a bit late ladies). After showing which bird my son wanted she spent another 15 minutes looking for a bird net. Which must have many hiding places because she was all over the store looking for it. To her credit she was nice enough and thorough once armed with the net. Then of course it comes time to check out. Well we go back to the front and low and behold 8 customers and only 1 cashier(guess they all scatter when it's time to do actual work). Thankfully after standing in line for another 10 minutes the older gentlemen ahead of us kind of lost it and gave the cashier a piece of his mind. This led her to call the manager to the front of store who appeared about 5 minutes after being repeatedly called. "Matt" I believe his name was appeared mystically from the back of the store after hearing his name being called repeatedly with yet another unseen employee(this confirms my earlier suspicion of employees running to hide when customers appear). No apologies for the inconveniences he caused everyone, barely any eye contact(ashamed he had to do some work maybe), and we we're on our way. If my son didn't have his heart set on one particular bird I would have bailed along with the other 2 customers who dropped their goods and moved on. The 1 star is for the cleanliness of the store. It's damn clean, but I guess that's because more and more people are getting smart and avoiding it, not because they employees actually do any work there. read more

Absolutely useless service. Asked for help and waited about 20 minutes for TWO employees to make eye contact with us and walk right on by ignoring us. Once again petco strikes me with its carelessness about the smaller animals and reptiles they keep for sale. They've improved yes but when it comes to LIVING ANIMALS it's not good enough. it's such a joy to own a dog. when we first got our jindotgae (korean jindo dog) sooni, she was already 2.5 years old, and she was the first dog for both my wife and myself. well, actually, my wife owned a small jindo puppy for a very short time in korea when she was a little girl; but, for the most part, sooni is the first dog for both of us. we learned fast about dog ownership. we read book after book and hired an excellent dog trainer to teach us a good combination of modern and traditional dog training -- modern's being teachings of the likes of dr. patricia mcconnell and dr. ian dunbar and traditional's being stuff more like what you see cesar milan do. sooni's previous owners were amazed by the change in sooni's behaviour. now, this trainer was _not_ from petco. i just want to tell you what a great dog sooni is. when we first got sooni, we had a friend named duk who worked at the petco in cupertino, which is now gone. we bought most of our pet supplies through him, exploiting his employee discount. we had heard that petco was a bad company that abuses animals, and he too admitted he knew of this bad reports about his company as a whole (but not necessarily about his own store or anything). although, we live in the south bay area of northern california, we often make road trips down to chino to visit my in-laws. of course, we bring sooni. when we're down there, we sometimes go to petco or else petsmart in chino. on one occassion, we wanted to give sooni a bath. we love using the self-serve pet baths at a local northern californian chain called pet food express. well, we decided to try out the chino petco's self-serve pet wash. wow, it was a much different experience. the place really isn't equipped to be a self-serve pet wash. rather, it's more like they have a pet grooming salon, and you can pay less if you do it yourself. it's sort of like bagging your own groceries at pak n' $ave instead of having the cashier at safeway or von's do it, eh? well, sooni was never a big fan of baths and was more scared of them when in her earlier days with us. as we were putting her into the awkward metal sink/tub, she started flailing her legs. she accidentally scratched me with a sharp edge of her paw, and my scratch was bleeding. i asked the woman there for a band-aid. she was all freaked out. i'm sure she's not used to dealing with real dogs, only froo froo purse dogs - or as my friend jerome calls them "kick me" dogs. gee, does she work at a pet supply store or not? why was she so freaked? she made us feel so unwelcomed from that point on. anyway, when i participated in the store survey on my receipt, i had to provide some constructive feedback about that negative experience. i told the automated system that the store could have my information and contact me. gee, guess what happened? that same woman calls me up and practicially chews me out for leaving negative feedback. i expected the manager to call me back. i guess she's the manager of the grooming area. what the heck?! well, nothing good came out of the conversation. if you're ever up the northern californian bay area, try out pet food express instead. also, for pet training, i personally would recommend dawna caldwell's happy tails to you, which is also up here. read more

Petco Grooming Salon: Just adopted a 2nd pet from petco, a 6 month old Maltese. Her hair was a bit messy so we wanted to give her a bath and a cut before we brought her home. Because we just rescued her and we came all the way from Irvine, so it was more convenient for us to have it done at the spot. They told us it would take 4-5 hours to pick up. Then the rescue group was kind enough to ask again if they could expedite the process because we live far, the manager finally agreed but with a rush fee of $10. The grooming charge became pretty steep ($55) but as long as they do a good job we were fine. The manager did the grooming and it turned out that he didn't really do a good job especially our puppy's face. The fur on her face was uneven...so we were not quite happy with it. Our groomer close to our house does a much better job and charge the same. read more

Every single time I come to this petco, the manager, Stephen tends to ignore me and my husband, once we finally get him to give us any service he has the worst attitude ,Last night was the last straw, he wouldn't let us adopt a kitten for my child who might I add was with us, my husband does not get off work until 7:30pm - 8 o'clock , we've been promising my son a kitten, he saw them picked one out, we've been standing around waiting for someone to help us, the manager , Stephen was right in front of us at the register just starting at us so I laughed and told my husband to approach him since he didn't want to come assist us , so he did, my husband asked how we can adopt or buy a kitten, he ( the manager ) said it's too late. Me being the mother I am who hates breaking promises ask how is it too late? The policy only says store hours , and we did ask within the store hours, he then starts walking away ignoring my question, so I had to follow him and that's when he started to get loud saying listen I want to go home, I don't want to be here, it's a 30 minute process let's be responsible, so I said ..then why work here if you don't feel it's necessary to do your job? my husband said I would have loved to go home earlier but we still made it well before you were closed, it says nothing about a time limit other than it must be within store hours, he then started rolling his eyes and had the nerve to get loud arguing about how he's not going to sell us a kitten, that it's HIS policy ect. My son was right by me and you have absolutely no right to treat a costumer like this, especially getting loud with me in front of my 3 year old. Also, just for the record, the store had many customers still inside the store, the doors weren't locked, people even actually came in after us to shop, he said we asked him when the store was already closed, which is a complete lie. I will never be going back there until they have professional employees// management or, simply any kind of NORMAL costumer service. I did get a hold of corporate, now I wait. read more

Very disappointed in Petco, in Chino, today!! Bad service, actually NO service! The store was filthy with dried up pee on the floor in a few spots! disgusting! I keep my dog very clean and groomed so shame on these employees. Came in to take Santa's picture with my yorkie and it was VERY disorganized! We were ignored while the girl attended to a group of people and showing them pictures on her device. no communication, no one else to help custom take Santa's picture for $9.95. Wake up Petsmart! It's a competitive business! I personally don't like to waist my time on a holiday weekend and none of your customers do either. read more

We stopped coming to this store due to a few bad experiences in the past. However, we decided to stop by again today and were extremely pleased with the service. We were looking for the 30lb bag of Natural Balance and the store was out. We weren't even going to bother asking if they maybe had an extra bag in the back but decided to ask anyways. Adin, the manager at the time, went out of his way to check if they had any extra bags in the back. Unfortunately they were out but Adin was kind to offer a discount on a smaller bag or two small bags for the price of the larger bag for the inconvenience in order to hold us off till Thursdays next shipment. Adin rang up our purchase right away and the cashier working at the time also gave our dog a few treats and asked if he may pet her. Thank you so much Adin for the exceptional service and thank you to the cashier (sorry we didn't get your name) for giving our little dog some treats. read more

Trying to figure out toys for our newly adopted pit/lab mix. I bought the "Kong Extreme" rope with a Nubbly body and ends. Coco destroyed the toy in 5 minutes. Luckily, I had spoken to a store employee (I actually think he may have been the store manager) ad he told me if it doesn't work out, as long as I brought back some piece of the toy and my receipt, he would give me a full refund. I came back to the store the next day and the cashier gladly gave me my money back. Another store employee recommended the Mammoth Tire Biter Bone toy for strong chewers, so I'm trying that out tonight. Hope it holds up! read more

$10 rabies vaccine clinic..fast,courteous, and perfect all around I was in a pinch!

I took my dog for a bath and to get his ears cleaned etc. The day after he was there he kept digging at his ear and was acting like he was in pain. So I checked his ear and there was a cotton ball stuffed down in his ear that was left there by the groomers at PetCo. I called and they said they put cotton balls in the dogs ears when they use the blow dryer so it doesn't scare them. There was only one in his right ear and it was very obvious that his ears were definitely not cleaned although I was charged for it. Always check your dog over after they are bathed or groomed here. read more

The people at the store that I have dealt with are always very helpful and friendly. I want to point out one thing, the bathrooms are disgusting. The management Should really take a look. Paper towel dispenser broken and open. There is toilet paper all over the place. My husband, also mentioned the men's room was completely a mess. He said it looked like it had not been cleaned in months. The products at Petco are very wide and high quality, and we always find what we need. However, cleanliness of restrooms are also a reflection on the care of the facility, which is also important to customer satisfaction and I would imagine also, employee comfort. read more

Brittany is fantastic. Tucker is my 12 year old Lab and has a hard time getting up and down and can not get into any cage. So she washes him in a stand up shower and grooms him there also. She blow dries him, making sure to get rid of all his loose hair, cleans his ears, and makes sure his nails are trimmed. He is so happy to go see her when I mention he is going for his bath. He can't wait to see Brittany, and she is always happy to see him too. I will not take him to any other groomer, and always makes sure Brittany is available at Petco to groom him. I am very pleased and just love the way he looks and smells when I get him home. Thanks Brittany! read more

How do I separate Petco & Petsmart... well I really can't. But I can say that Petco didn't provide an adequate amount of selections that Petsmart offers. This location could do better in the area of being more friendly and open within the store. I dunno, I didn't like it... I didn't see anything that I hadn't seen at Petsmart, and I probably won't be going back in the future. read more

There seemed to be no one working here. I noticed I was not the only customer looking around for an employee to assist me. Finally found someone and she was not very friendly. I had just adopted a new puppy and was looking for quality food for him, she was very short with me. The employee at the register was even more unfriendly and unwelcoming.
