I've been a loyal Petco customer for many years, but this was my first time taking my dog to this location. We scheduled an appointment in advance and the girl that checked us in was very courteous and friendly. But after two hours of our dog being there, we called to get an update and were told it was gonna be an additional 3+ hours before we could pick her up and we'd only taken her in for a basic grooming. We let them know that we didn't feel comfortable leaving her for an additional 3 hours and we would come pick her up. They called us back within 15 minutes saying she was already ready for pick up. Upon picking her up, she was desperate to get outside to use the restroom and it seems like they hadn't taken her out at all during her time there. The haircut was super choppy and we noticed some parts on her neck that were completely not cut at all. We also noticed there was a pretty substantial cut on her back. Not only are we not satisfied with the grooming based on our prior experiences, but in addition to that, our dog has a cut that we now have to take her to the vet for. Very dissatisfied with the overall experience and very disappointed of the treatment of our dog. I also want to note that our groomer's name was Kayleen and I'm now reading previous reviews of her with similar experiences. Shame on her for mistreating these poor animals. I would have rather had my appointment cancelled if they were over booked vs now having to deal with a vet bill. read more

Aside from the products, he also shared some tips for at home treatment such as checking the fatty acid level of their food and increasing the number of brushing sessions. I did not know about the fatty acid level part! Learned something new. The store itself is easy to get to with plenty of parking. We were in and out in less than 15 minutes. 0 stars! I've been bringing my dog to Petco's grooming salon for quite some time and never had an issue, until yesterday. I received a call saying my dog had been "pulling to the point of passing himself out." That immediately alarmed me and my first question was: how long was he struggling before anyone stepped in? The manager claimed it was only a few minutes but to me that still sounds like negligence. A few minutes of a dog pulling so hard he loses consciousness is not acceptable. My dog was completely healthy before this visit, and they attempted to blame his breed for what happened even though this has never occurred before, either at home or during any previous grooming appointments here. My dog ended up with trachea damage and had to be hospitalized for over 12 hours. Thankfully he survived, but no pet owner should ever have to go through this kind of experience. I'm sharing this because I want other pet parents to be aware and ask questions about how their pets are being handled during grooming. read more

I just wanted to say thank you to the manager and employees here. My cat recently was diagnosed with cancer. I've been having a hard time trying to find him the right food to get his appetite going. I'm in petco quite a bit and ever since his diagnosis the employees have all been SO helpful and kind to me and giving me good recommendations. They always ask how I am when I go in and ask about my cat. And a special thank you to the woman manager with the dark hair (I'm sorry I don't know your name!) she has been so beyond caring/empathetic and helpful to me during this hard time. I didn't expect much from Petco, just wanted to get a fancy goldfish for my granddaughter and my wife. I was blown away by the service and knowledge that Danny provided. It was our first fish and aquarium purchase in many years, and Danny went way over the top with the care he took with us and guidance for getting the tank acclimated before we purchased the fish which thankfully was still there a month after we let the tank cycle for a good transfer to the new tank. We've been back several times since and he is always so happy to help with our questions and pass along useful advice to rookie fish owners. This review is for the return service I got from my online order. I placed an online order for a big bird cage in the end of July. Unfortunately 1) the shipper made a typo in the street name 2) petco did not send us the shipping confirmation email until several days the package was delivered. As a result, we only got part of the cage after Fedex found part of the shipment after almost one month later. And with partial shipment, we couldn't assemble the bird cage. During this one month we took numerous effort trying to contact petco online customer service. We were promised that someone will get back to us soon but actually no one bothered to follow up with our case. We also contacted Fedex several times, but Fedex said only the petco could contact them for fixing the delivery, although they told us one fact that petco provided the wrong address to them. You can tell how frustrated we have been through this one month of dealing with petco online customer service and Fedex. Then we decided to call petco and they said we could just return what we have received so far. Thanks god I went to this wonderful store. The store staff comforted me, and they talked to me with lots of sympathy as if they were our neighbors. I never experienced such warmness in other petco stores like the ones in Irvine, nor in most of the stores, restaurants. The return process was very smooth. I went out of the store with a delighted heart. I felt cool breeze in a hot summer although there was none. BTW two weeks after we returned the partial and only part of the order that we received, the petco online customer service eventually bothered to contact us. No apology for all the mess they have created, they asked why did we return partial order and get a full refund. Shouldn't they aware what happened and just tried to cover up what they have done. TLDR is although we have permanently banned petco online service and we would like to warn others about petco online shopping and their online customer service, we highly recommend visiting this local petco store and we will buy our pet supplies from them. read more

Grooming Manager Kayleen (I believe that's her name) has a horrible attitude. We brought our two dogs to this location for the second time for their grooming appointment. We have been using Petco grooming in San Diego County for at least 10 years with excellent results and service. We arrived to check our two dogs in and there sits Kayleen. Once she discovers one of our dogs is 14 years old she immediately tells me that that's the cut off and they don't groom dogs over that age. Apparently saying our dog has aged out of their grooming. We asked a couple questions if they would take him today. She decided to get up, storm out and go ask for permission from a higher manager. She said that she will take him today, but we have to take him to the vet every six months. Our next dog isn't that old, but does have a low-grade heart murmur. She immediately huffed up and asked if we were sure that that was the grade. We said yes, and she once again with her attitude like we were inconveniencing her said well I'm gonna call your vet and confirm. Give me your vets information. We decided to pull both of our dogs and we'll go look for grooming elsewhere. I understand they have a policy, but blasting us with the policy with that attitude on the day of our grooming appointment was unacceptable. She needs to work on her people skills. The two male groomers there are absolutely professional, courteous and seemed to really enjoy their job. I usually use my Petco app to buy my dog's food then I go pick it up (which is always something of an ordeal.). Today I decided to just stop in and was forced to walk past a cage containing one extremely sad looking chinchilla being sold for a deep discount. I'm guessing he's unwell on top of being deeply lethargic and depressed. They also had a Guinea pig with no hair (just patches) who was also on sale. This is BULL$***!!! I'm disgusted and horrified and so, so sad for these poor animals! That seems really mean spirited, unfair and greedy. Very disappointing. Customer service is severely lacking. Three people standing around talking and only one register open. You have to ask someone to open another register. The register areas are so filled with promotional crap that you don't have room to set your purchases down. The stuffed dog toys are outrageously overpriced. Don't buy them here - go directly across the street to TJ Maxx and get the same thing for 40% less. The only bright spot at this location is Edward the cashier who was kind to people he helped and was actually doing his job instead of standing around talking. Petco is a large chain pet store that carries a variety of pet food and pet supplies for small animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and birds as well as some exotics such as turtles, lizards and snakes. Grooming and dog training services are also available. This is a clean, nicely organized store conveniently located off of Santa Margarita Parkway in the same shopping center as Party City and Pizza Hut. My family and I recently wandered through the store while waiting for our pizza to be made from Pizza Hut. We checked out their variety of pet foods and aquarium fish for sale. We were grateful to see that they carried both of our pet's Hill's Science Diet foods, but seemed to be a bit on the pricey side in comparison to our local pet store and Pet Smart. Really disappointed first my favorite groomer John left then after booking an appointment today I am told they raised prices. Nail trim went up 25% and they added on a material fee with tax. What materials I asked and no one could tell me. That makes it a 40% increase before tip. I paid what they charged and left the poor girl that did the work a nice tip. With those kind of price I suspect that her tips will dry up fast. Pet Smart is less, as are the Mom and Pop groomers and even my vet. t will be hard to get and keep groomers when Corporate sets rates that are above market as they depend on tips from their good customers. I was informed by, John that they just received four. I told him I'd be on my way to pick one up. We arrived after 15 minutes from calling the store. I actually walked in and John was coming towards us. I stopped him and informed him I was the person he spoke with on the phone. He immediately took care of us...walking us to the Gecko's and allowing my son to pick out a Gecko (as it was his birthday). John was extremely helpful and set us up with all that was needed, and included helpful tips! He was a great associate/trainer. The gecko was for my son's birthday, so the attention to detail, John provided was excellent. First of all, I'm reserving all my legal right for the following incident. On 11/24/2019, I took my dog to her 10AM grooming appointment with the groomer she had been to before at this location. At 10:33AM, I got a call from the store informed me, the groomer accidently injured my dog with about 1" cut on her left neck. They immediately took her to Animal Urgent Care of South Orange County in Mission Viejo, CA, and asked me to meet with their staff there. She was later released after a small surgery with stitches from the urgent care around noon. She was prescribed with 7-days of antibiotic and some pain pills during the visit. The local store staff paid for the entire bill with store credit card and when I asked her what'll the next step for the grooming be, since my dog is half groomed at that point. She told me someone from the store will contact me to follow up and reschedule for an appointment as soon as the vet approves it. and of course, the grooming will be free with no charge at all (to finish the work). Up till this point, I was still sanctified how they handled the accident professionally. I was very upset that my dog was in pain, but I also feel confidence that PETCO would take care of it all in the end. After all, accident does happens...and for a corporate company like this should have a proper procedure for incident. After the incident, my dog was suffered from the pain. Therefore, I had to gave her some pain pills for the first couple days. She was not acting herself, didn't eat very much and stayed in the kennel most of the time for several days. I had to take some time off for her two follow up appointments with the vet, on 12/3/2019 after she finish antibiotic to check on the condition of wound and the following Monday on 12/9/2019 to remove her stitches. I confirmed with the vet if she's ready to be reschedule for her grooming appointment yet since I was first told by the PETCO staff that they can reschedule if the vet approves. So I called the grooming service right after 12/9/2019 appointment, and scheduled her with the earliest opening on 12/11/2019 as she's desperate for a bath and grooming at this point. On 12/11/2019, I took more time off from work to the appointment. The groomer who caused the accident happened to be the same groomer she scheduled with, told me because her skin still shows some scab. By the policy, she wouldn't be able to groom her at this time (even when they first told me all I needed was approval from the vet), I know she was trying her best to keep that appointment and take care of us by run it by the grooming manager and another groomer's opinion if they can take her anyway. So, although I was a little irritated that we have to go back for another appointment, but I agreed to it and rescheduled for another appointment after spoke to the grooming manager on the phone next day for 12/18/2019 at 5PM as I explained to her I had been taking too many time off during my work hour for this and I prefer to do the errand after work. Now here comes the nonsense part... I received a call from the store again on 12/14/2019 at 3:37PM. A guy named Rob addressed himself as the store team leader informed me, their grooming department decided that they no long feel comfortable to groom my dog after the accident. They don't feel like they have the proper grooming tools to groom her and they are "referring" me to go somewhere else as they are never going to service my dog there. They suggested to find a vet with grooming service; they would have better "tools" and they can do something immediately if accident happen again. I told Rob they promised they will finish the work and even offered it to be free when we return. So if they are not going to finish the work, can we go to different PETCO location to get it done with the complimentary service they promised? Or, will I be able to reimburse the grooming cost if I must go to a vet's grooming service outside of PETCO? He denied any reasonable settlement and he even made a statement that because the grooming they did wasn't complete, which means I didn't pay for the service at all (because their normal process is to pay when we pick up our pet after the service). Therefore, they are not reliable for any settlement related to this accident...the wound and all that trouble they caused me and my dog. He also stated on the phone that he has no authority to honor me that complimentary service they promised me at different PETCO location or reimburse me any cost I would have to pay out of my pocket related to this accident. He's pretty much telling me they are going to walk away just like that, without any settlement. I did reached out to the corporate customer service afterwards. My last conversation with them was on 12/18/2019. As now, I'm still waiting for the higher management level from the PETCO corporate office to contact me in order to resolve this matter. read more

This is a review of Alia, the groomer at the RSM Parkway in Mission Viejo. Alia as a very friendly and caring groomer, will you can tell really loves animals. I had come in two weeks prior to get a haircut but my dog had a small cut from playing with a puppy, so she told me I do that I could come back in a couple weeks when the cut has totally healed and she would give me a 20% off coupon since i made the trip out. That was very thoughtful. After coming back she said it would take about 3-4 hours and received a call then to pick her up. She gave my dog a darling haircut and provided a report card at the end. Her nails were partly done because she was squirming, and said she wasn't able to do the front ones because she did not have a helper at the time, which I totally understood. I now take my animal to the vet to get her nails done, which is fine since mine is a squirmer. Thank you Alia and Petco for taking good care of Daisy. I look forward to our next appointment! We have had our labradoodle puppy now for a little over 2 months. We have heavily relied on this Petco for socializing our girl. The puppy playtime has been a huge asset in helping her learn doggie manners. I love that it facilitated by their positive trainers that really get to know your dog. We also enrolled her in their puppy class, which is led by the same trainer, John. These classes are great for her exposure and development. We also just took her in for grooming for this first time and are so happy with Carla! Our pup left with a cute puppy trim and a very positive experience. We have come in many times over these two months for treats, toys, food, harnesses, etc. everyone here is so helpful and really makes a happy environment for our four-footed family member. Sheridan (the blonde) has no basic customer service knowledge. All the other Petco stores have the Star Wars costumes at 50% off and online it's even more. I show her the item online and because it's not the same sku (large instead of medium) she can't do the math. I should have looked at the poor ratings and reviews on yelp. Sheridan, If you have no life and are miserable and angry all the time (this is my second day coming after buying a bunch costumes and toys yesterday) and you are the only miserable employee I have seen here with no tactfulness. ALL the other employees are pleasant. No desire to be helpful and provide any customer service I suggest you get a job picking up trash so you work by yourself. I wouldn't mind paying the full price but find it odd that this store doesn't have the same promotion and the way this employee handled not wanting to look into it, simply we can't do anything about it you can leave. I also don't use the racist card, but yesterday I made 2-3 separate transactions (no bags, kept the items in my cart) and picked up an online order. The other employee helped me and told Sheridan who was coming from break or something that I made the previous purchases when I making this new purchase. This store is only getting one star because i have to rate them with one in order to post this review. First of all, i was not greeted by the two kids talking to each other in the front. After trying to walk by the fish aisle as it was blocked with a box where i assume is where the fish were shipped in and other stuff on the floor, i saw three plastic bags with barely any fishes alive in them as the fishes were all crammed up at the bottom of the bags, not moving at all and the ones that were alive were hardly moving. One of the boys finally came up to me and asked if i needed help with anything. I asked him if he could clean up as it all looked horrible. Without hesitation he said "No, i can't, the fish need to acclimate to the water, so no." I decided i was not going to spend my money here so decided to walk out. As i was walking out, the same kid that "helped me" was telling his coworker how i told him the area looked horrible. I entered this store on Christmas Eve 2020 around 3pm in the afternoon. The skies were cloudy. I attempted to buy goldfish for a brand new fish tank I purchased for my mother. It's a 3.5 gallon fish tank. The rule of thumb states 1 fish per gallon is ok. The lady that worked there started off my telling me gold fish are feeder fish. Great so I should be able to buy as many as I want right? WRONG! She would only sell me one goldfish because I wasn't planning on feeding it to another animal. What sense does this make? Now Im embarrassed that I have 1 tint goldfish in a brand new tank for my mother. Where if I told her that I was going to feed the goldfish to my turtle they would have sold me 20.... great common sense there Petco.
