One of my favorite pet stores to go to! I always return because of the great customer service here. The animals are always selling so the animals are NOT sick and dying all the time. They always have good deals on the tanks. Me and my family have spent A LOT of money here and with every visit we always get great service and efficient service. Fun Place to go and look at all the animals. They have so many. Reptiles, Birds, Hamsters, Guinea pigs, Fish and even Saltwater. Cool starfish and Corals. I would give this place 5 stars because of the great customer service I usually receive from all of the awesome ladies who work here. Bryan helped me today and he was rude and had a horrible attitude the entire time. Got all pissy with me when I wanted to price match items to their website(I do it everytime I come in and everyone is usually happy about helping me) He three my items around and was like sure I guess. Seemed like he didn't want to be there. I could tell he had a horrible attitude before he even helped me because he gave the ladies in front of me a hard time while trying to exchange something. Didn't even mention anything to them. Just ignored them and walked away and handed them off to someone else saying I can't help. The ladies looked confused. I went to Petco a while back and I figured that maybe I should write a review about what I witnessed. Honestly what I seen disturbed me I didn't expect to see a beaten abused and infected guinea pig. The animals eye was clearly infected and when I asked employee's to help he / she out they didn't do anything at all. They simply told me I was misreading the animal and it was healthy. When I come back to the store a week later I see the tank of the guinea pig gone and empty. I maybe thought it was sold to a great family but soon to see the labeling completely gone. I don't want to sound mean as i am saying this but this petcos service is absolutely terrible and most of the animals are pretty bad quality i recently bought my first Guinea pig and i wanted to make sure i did everything right so i had an employee pick the food and products i was going to use. I put a decent amount of money in to this animal and it passed away the next day. i am very unhappy with my experiences and i don't suggest buying animals from this store :( read more

Today I went to a number of local pet stores to post two signs selling my pet equipment--I am moving out of state and cannot bring it along. Petco and Pets Choice both allowed me to post these signs. The guy I talked to at Petco was very friendly and even hung the signs for me! While my shopping experiences here have been limited, the times I was here the staff was helpful and friendly. Unlike Petsmart where they only care about the bottom line and "company policy". Vote with your dollar, folks! Shop with someone nice and community oriented like Petco! read more

Please, please do not buy animals from this Petco. If you have time, read this long story of mine to read about my experience. If you don't, scroll to the end where I summarize it. I've been there twice this week, and somehow the second visit was worse than the first. The first visit began somewhat pleasantly. I was greeted and asked if I needed help. The reptiles in the front appeared clean as did the aquariums to the side. One dead fish in the pond they keep. Understandable. These things happen. Then I went to the rodent section. Their cages appeared to be neglected. It's visibly apparent that they haven't been cleaned properly in at least a few days. There are droppings everywhere. In one of the cages, I believe it was for one of the guinea pigs, the droppings covered the bottom of the wheel. The bedding in most of the cages had been shifted so that the glass bottom of the tanks was uncovered in places. I noticed in the mouse cage, the water had been dripping. It had completely soaked half of the bedding on the bottom of the cage, and with the size of their cage, this had been going on for a while. I told one of the workers there and the response: "Oh, I'll have to change that again." Great, so you already knew this was a problem, yet you let it happen for this long. After mentioning this issue, this worker that previously greeted me changed his attitude and acted as if my presence was a burden. My goal this day was to come in to get a mouse, and against my better judgment I had already gotten attached to a particular one. So I told this employee that I was interested in buying her. He picked her up by the length of her tail (any google search will tell you not to do this as it can harm the mouse) and put her in the box. Unlike Petsmart, Petco does not have you sign anything when purchasing an animal, nor do they confirm that you are over eighteen. This takes away one of the safeguards for the animals; anyone who has four bucks can just come in and get a mouse. Fast forward a couple days, and I've decided to clean my mouse's cage. When I took her out, I noticed a brown bug disappear into her fur. I'm not an expert, but I think it is lice. Petco is the closest shop to me, so I've decided I'll make another short trip there to buy the lice spray they hold for small rodents. The rodent cages, at first, look a little better than before. There are less droppings. The guinea pig cage has less of them, too, but for some reason the wheel that was there previously is no longer in the cage. The dripping water bottle has also been fixed. Then I looked at the cages more closely. The mouse dishes have crusted, dried on droppings. The wheel in one of the mouse cages has dried droppings as well. It is clear that they only spot cleaned and haven't done any deep cleaning or scrubbing in a very long time. Upon further inspection, some mice and rats have excrement on their fur and caked onto their toes. The item I was looking for was found on the bottom shelf. It was completely dusty (I'm talking a month's collection of dust), and all the other items on the bottom shelf in this area had the same issue. Apparently, Petco is not only neglecting their rodents' cages, they also don't practice general cleaning habits either. At this point, I was about to leave with my lice treatment and a couple other items, but I looked at the rodent cages one last time. A couple of the hamsters had begun fighting. My friend came back after finding a worker in one of the office rooms, and we showed her the one who was starting the fights. He had a bleeding cheek and another hamster had blood in his fur. The worker brought out a box as if she was going to take him out then. Finally, we're headed to the register. Then we noticed this worker had taken the role of cashier. One more look at the hamsters' cage, and the hamster had not been removed. The employee must have seen us go back though, because now she had decided to come over and remove the hamster. I put my items back and left the store. Long story short: Petco lost my sale of over $20 in items. Multiple employees acted as if I was burdening them when I brought a problem to their attention. They don't give proper care to their animals which seem to just be simply more products for them to sell. If you must purchase a pet from a large-scale pet store, choose the Petsmart on McHenry instead. Their cages are better kept, and they have 3 mice in a cage instead of 10. They also have more measures to ensure that buyers know what they're doing when they buy an animal, and they have easily accessible pamphlets for each animal. Petco also apparently doesn't have comment cards. I say, good thinking Petco. read more

When it comes to Pet stores, we've gone backward, not forward. I am so disappointed in Petco and other Pet Superstores for carrying live animals for sale, esp. exotic animals taken out of their natural habitats. At this point in history (2015) we should be educated enough to know how stupid this is, how nasty for God's beautiful Creatures and how bad this all turns out in the end. I can't say how many times I've been in homes where animals/reptiles/fish from these stores were neglected, not fed or watered, left alone in cages (most animals are very social with their own kind) and so on; this is abuse-pure and simple. You all want to adopt/buy a puppy or kitten, a senior animal who needs love? Go to your shelters/pounds and humane societies in your area. There are so many smart, beautiful, nice, funny domestic animals that would love a good home and someone who loved them. They are so grateful to have us. When Stores sell animals and other species, it almost never turns out well for the creatures. The animals are from some very shady operators despite what the Stores say publicly...Yes, the Pet stores are in business. Business to make a lot of money. So they hire poorly, pay poorly and guess who suffers? Animals do every time. And guess who gets angry at losing $$$? Humans. Just read below. Come on Petco and Pet Stores everywhere. Just sell really good food and supplies. You'll make a bundle and save a lot of animals/reptiles/fishes lives. Now THAT"S a good thing. read more

This is for the dog/puppy adoption (PEOPLE)so my dog passed way a bit ago , and I have bin toying with the idea of getting a 2end doggie for me and my family so I go in and start to look at the puppy's first and I have had dogs ALL MY LIFE ! so I know the drill, I always try and make the animal feel calm and relaxed so I putt my palm against the cage and let the Dog sniff my hand so they know I mean no harm to them , so I got to this one dog and he had his back turned to me so I made that clicking sound with my mouth ( that we all do) to grab his attention it worked! But he was a bit feisty so I did no feel comfortable putting my palm any place ne'er his TEETH! Lol , so... I made a fist Instead so he could still smell my had and I would be FREE OF ANY DANGER! And that's when The rudest person I have ever met came my way and said to me don't do that! He don't like it! Matter fact go away get out of here go ! Get OUT OF TGE STORE! She said it so rude and horrible!! no she was just a volunteer so she was not a part of the Petco staff from what I found out from talking to the manager.and yes I did talk to the manager ,and I wanted to talk with her and him to get this figured out. So the girl who told me that he would not come over to me and the Manager and talk but I guess her boss came instead not her with her arms crossed and aggressive manner with the sower face telling me that her volunteer said I was punching the cage. And I said punching the cage? I never punched the cage! I said I was letting the dog get familiar with me by putting my hand to the cage! I didn't feel comfortable extending my palm out with my fingers exposed that's all I was doing.! And she said no! My employee said you were punching the cage and hitting the cage with your fist! and so I said OK then can we look at the camera footage to prove that I was not punching the cage ? and that's when the manager said sorry we don't have cameras in that area. No cameras? How? And the lady was very rude she was combative sour face arms crossed and didn't even listen to me. I told her my dog had passed !!! And I just sent pictures of this little dog to my daughter and saying how cute she was for her in the text .I showed the text with pictures to the manager and I said why would I go from that ,to vigorously punching a cage does that make sense? And then the volunteers manager said to me I don't know you tell me why you where hitting the cage? Be four I LET MY Intense rage get the better of me I Chosed to leave ...and people who seen the incident said if you want to write a complaint us three will speak up in your behalf saying exactly what happened because I was there right next to you when you were letting the dog smell your hand. And we seen everything. I finally get the nerve up to get another dog after my dog's passing and this is how I get. Treated !? I will never go there again , I will never suggested it,I will never even look in that store direction. I wish the Cameras where WORKING so I could shove it in the lady's FACE! read more

I am disabled and went to the store today (10/26) for the costume contest that I received MULITIPLE emails about and was informed that it was held last week. What I find interesting is that I have groomed my dogs at that location and yet never received notification of last's weeks event. I talked to two managers while I was in the store and the attitude was "Oh well". I then called Customer Service that called the store, but the attitude was again I am sorry but we held the event last week. I then called the store and talked to another manager that "Offer to have another event sometime before Halloween, mind you Halloween is in five days. I also looked on the specific store event calendar and the only this that was listed for last week was a pet healthy event, but not "Pet Oktober" and had the pet costume contest for today. Please note I was not the only customer that showed up for the event today. If you enjoy customer service and people who truly seem to like animals you are better to drive one mile up Sisk to Petsmart. read more

The grooming services are awesome. They are very accommodating and friendly. I'm the owner of 2 huskies, one of them let's just say it's not a big fan of the grooming. Some things are pricey but they have good sales. Store is very clean and they have a very friendly atmosphere for pets and people. The staff are all very friendly and courteous. I was very pleased with my recent visit. I just adopted a puppy and they helped me find everything I needed. The gentleman did not act upset because he walked me from one end of the store to the other and back again. Excellent customer service. Bought two Guinea pigs here.as my children were getting very attached one had a bald spot that was getting worse. Took her in to be checked out (it had only been 2 days) thwy said they would take her to the vet. That evening they told me they had to keep her there for 5-8 days. My daughter was heartbroken. We decided we would visit her everyday. We visited her one day and went back the next and they told me she had died. It was very fishy. My daughter and I were heartbroken. She should not have died.
