More often than any other pet product, our household seems to require an endless supply of cat litter. Let's face it, the folks who figured out how to take clay - sometimes known by its other name, dirt - stuff it into a package decorated with pretty color pictures and cute names, and sell it back to us - well, I guess they saw us coming. Enter Petco's self-serve litter station. A sandbox of clay litter surrounded by handy reusable containers you can stuff to your heart's content. We've been coming here since we got our puppy (he's currently 5 months old)! Always find great stuff, always have good help, and never have had a bad experience. The main reason I am leaving this review is because we signed up for the level 1 puppy classes and were SO fortunate to have Anthony as our puppy trainer. He's patient, informative, understanding, and has always made us feel welcomed. As newer puppy parents we have obviously had some doubts or concerns and Anthony has been such a help in easing our minds and finding the proper patience to work in a positive way with our pup! Luckily we live fairly close, but I would drive a significant distance to attend puppy classes with Anthony! Aside from that the rest of the staff we've interacted with has always been knowledgeable and pleasant and our pup loves going there with us. Jeremy groomed our dog today and did a wonderful job! We have an 85ish-pound Goldendoodle, and he definitely had some matted areas and lots of curly hair to wash and trim. Jeremy trimmed him evenly all over, and was able to take care of all the matted areas, without making Leo look bald or patchy. Jeremy also brushed Leo's teeth and took care of his nails. Great attention to detail and great customer service! Leo is happy (and ready for summer) and we are too. Thanks so much, Jeremy! Literally the worst grooming center ever. Do not take your dog there. The grooming "manager", who's an older bald man, is the only one who can actually trim dogs nails at this location. Twice I have taken my chihuahua in, and the groomers were unable to finish clipping her back nails. This last time they couldn't finish 2 of her back nails, the time before that they couldn't do her back legs at all. During my most recent visit, where the groomer was unable to finish two nails on her back paw, I asked why she wasn't able to. She said she would "need somebody to hold her" so she could clip my dogs nails properly. I looked behind her, through glass windows into the grooming salon, where the manager, Jeremy, and 2 other women were grooming dogs. I asked if one of them would be able to hold her while she clipped the TWO nails, since it would only take 1 minute and they didn't finish the job to begin with, to which she went back into the salon to ask. When she came back out, she said they couldn't do anything about it, no explanation or reason as to why 1 of the 3 of them couldn't take 1 min to hold a small dog. I offered to hold her, she ignored that. First of all, what groomer would send a dog away without finishing the job? Especially when a MANAGER is in the salon to assist?! The "manager" didn't come out to help, and certainly didn't come out to explain why they couldn't finish the job. Totally disgusted by this joke of grooming salon. Neverrrr returning. read more

This review is for Natalia in particular: she was so helpful in the fish department even when she was cleaning the tanks at the time. She is just a positive worker and professional in how she answered my totally unreasonable request: I asked if she could get a particular patterned common comet fish (feeder fish). There are HUNDREDS of these fish in the tank but my daughter wanted a particular one. Natalia told us that it was going to be almost impossible, BUT NATALIA DELIVERED!!! Not only was she able to get us the exact fish that we requested, but she did so without making us feel rushed or a bother. She had a great can do attitude which under-promises but OVER-DELIVERS!!! My 3yo. daughter was so happy for the fish and we are so thankful that one worker at Petco would take out the time in her busy schedule to do something so difficult. read more

Love this store, always has so many options available! But.. Today I went in and the cashier clearly did not want to help me. I was in line getting ready to check out, there were two other cashiers already helping customers and a third that was available. The employee that was available looked at me and chose to start talking to a family that was already being helped instead of calling me to the counter. He then insisted that he finish that transaction with them, even though another worker was already helping them, and he proceeded to tell that employee to take care of the rest of us in line. I have always had a great experience at this location and am surprised to see the low reviews. My dog gets her nails trimmed at the grooming salon and I go in weekly for crickets. I buy dog food and pill pockets online and pickup in store. Everything has run smoothly. Enjoy a small chat with Aaron when he's working. Loved the convenience of this location as it's just a little over a block from my home. I had been taking my dog their for grooming for over seven years but was told on my last visit that they have a new policy and they will no longer groom my dog because he is subject to seizures. So there I was purchasing my pups their food. I get in line like every other normal human being. Register to the left has a gentlemen with a new dog with a quite a few items. Register to my right has another person just wrapping up their transaction. I'm next right? Wrong. Customer walks in with some type of fish tank, places it on the counter, and strikes up a conversation with the available cashier about fish, what to use, blah blah blah. This goes on for several minutes while I continue to wait in line. So instead of this cashier telling the customer "Hey, you'll have to get in line to return your item" or "I'm going to help this customer first then I'll help you", I'm freaking invisible. I end up going to the other register where I met employee Mary Jane. Helpful, nice, polite, and I'm fairly certain she could sense my displeasure with how things were going. $106 dollars later, I drop the food off in my car and come back to speak with the other cashier. He wasn't even apologetic. It's cool. You want to be salty about how you provide customer service "I'm just trying to help people" (just not in the order they're received). Will not return. Tried to enter groomers room and was rudely snapped at by the employee. A dog was in there on a leash held by its owner and the employee snapped to close the door to me. I tried but the dogs head was in the door so I waited for the owner to pull her dog back. All this time the employee is rudely still snapping "close the door you will let the dog out". 1. The dog was on a leash 2. there is no sign that if someone is in there not to enter. 3. More than enough room in there for more than one customer 4. Horrible first impression. As an 18 year former manager and district manager for Petco , I have to mention Hunter from this Petco for going above and beyond the call of duty !! He assisted me in getting a bottom feeder for my tank and special ordered some products for me . He was very friendly and engaging and the store also looked great ! This store is far superior to the Petco in Elk Grove on Laguna Blvd. Today Hunter called me on my cell phone to let me know the status of my products . He was able to order the ammonia filters I needed for my tank but not the hip and joint treats( for my dog) that I also wanted get . He was true to his word by letting me know the status of my products . He is a true asset to Petco and really impressed me . I will be picking up my ammonia filters on Tuesday and am grateful for the outstanding customer care that he gave me . The first couple of times I took my pup here, I was thrilled. Staff was extremely sweet and my dog looked great. The last two times I took her, she has come back covered in skin sores. I'm not sure if she's having a reaction to something they are putting on her or if they are cutting her when they are buzzing her hair. I feel terrible that I put my little girl though that :( The actual haircut was subpar and it didn't look like they ground her nails down at all (which I paid for). The manager here is horrible. Very rude and disrespectful. She claimed that the dog food that was trying to return wasn't the food. I was trying to explain that this is the food that came in the bag that I bought here. She called me a liar. Unacceptable. Petco has a 100% satisfaction guarantee. It says that online and on the receipt. I had my ID, valid receipt for proof of purchase and the card which I bought what I was trying to return the item with. If I ever called a customer a liar I would be fired instantly. She ripped the bag completely open so that the food spilled everywhere. read more

I'll no longer be coming here just out of convenience. On my last trip (Sunday early evening) it was fairly busy. Looked like an obedience class was happening, plus a few others just brought their dogs in to shop (which is always SUPER FUN for me because I don't have a dog and I miss having one). We found what we needed easily enough, without any store assistance, as usual. Everything was peachy-keen until we got to the register. The guy checking us out, Pete, was rather flippant. Kept calling my fiancé "Bro" (ignoring me, like, "Hey bro, I can help you right here," and "do you have a rewards card, bro?"). My fiancé is not a "bro." He doesn't act like one; he doesn't look like one. And dude, I'm the one that is the primary caretaker for our cat. And you didn't even acknowledge me. The most audacious part of the interaction was when he said, completely unprovoked, "I hate working Sundays. First of all, I miss football." And my fiancé said, "yeah, football,' (we're not sports people) and then Pete says, "and on top of that it's just too busy. Ugh." I was absolutely astounded. You ignore me completely, don't ask how we are, and then complain about your job? It's funny because this trip was about an hour after I got a phone call from Petco's warehouse of annoying telemarketers asking about my last trip and if I was likely to recommend my friends shop here. On a scale from 1 - 10, I think I said 5, but that's definitely down to 0 now, bro. Just to note: there's another guy that works there (damned if I can remember his name), bigger guy, longish brown hair, who is always nice, greets us, and has a smile on his face. I had to edit my review based on a recent positive experience. I bought my dog a Kong Genius, the appropriate size for his weight and how much he likes to chew, and in less than 30 minutes he chewed right through it and broke it. My dog is 15 pounds, not very sharp teeth, and has never even broken a stuffed toy before. The Kong insert says you can bring it back to the retailer if you're disappointed, so I went to Petco, not expecting much. To my surprise, they were very helpful and gave me a full refund. Petco is open until 9, they're located near other convenient stores, and they generally have what I need, and the 5% discount with the pals card helps, too. My only complaint is they're not always well stocked, and sometimes items are hard to find in the store. If they had their inventory issues together I wouldn't mind coming here at all. read more

My wife, puppy, and I had a 5:00 pm training booked for today, March 1st with Nicholas. Nicholas was a no show and didn't call or anything. Just left us waiting at Petco for 20 minutes until we were forced to ask for a refund. None of the other staff knew where the trainer was and they couldn't get in contact with him. To get the refund, they made us wait until 5:25. They then tried to blame us for not notifying anyone when we arrived. Except we had notified the woman working at the register at 4:58, which she then confirmed. And we had actually asked her two more times between 5:00 and 5:15 if she knew where the trainer was. She couldn't help us any of the times we asked. Horrible service and then horrible management who tried to put the blame on us, even though the situation was no fault of our own. I do not recommend training at this location at all and we won't be coming back. We had a number of other items we were going to buy too, but we will just pick them up from Amazon. This store is on the smaller side, but didn't seem to be lacking in product. It's your average Petco, with grooming. No medical facility or training program as I've seen in some of the larger stores. I try to support small businesses when I can but needed a dog sweater and was unwilling to pay the $40 the local pet store was charging. Found a decent selection at Petco in the $15-20 range. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and they had puppies and kittens from the front street shelter up for adoption. I *almost* walked out with a puppy but figured two dogs is enough. read more

A year ago I moved to the area and I stopped in one day on a fluke to see if they offered grooming services. I met Jeremy, he introduced himself and told me about the store and the different things he offered. I thought his customer service we awesome and he was great to talk to, but I figured he just "worked" there and I would never see him again. Visit #2 I had taken my dog to what I thought was more of an "upscale" dog groomer in the area and was not happy with the job they did. A couple weeks later needed to get my dogs nails clipped. I called to see if they could see him right away and the nice guy I dealt with on the phone said bring him down now. When I arrived, it turned out to be Jeremy. He was so accommodating and really sweet with his handling of my dog. I left there feeling confident I would give thier grooming department a shot. Visit #3 Finally had Murph groomed at Petco. I was lucky and got Jeremy! (Now I only request him) He did such a wonderful job! I love how kind and sweet he is, not just with me but with my baby Murph. The first couple visits, I figured Jeremy was a fluke, in a good mood that day so his customer service was ON POINT. But NO consistently, he is awesome. He really earned my business and has never given me a reason to go anyplace else. I know my dog is in good hands. (I have had to pick him up once wet and soapy from PetSmart because the groomer said my dog was "Freaking out") So I always thought I needed to go to a fancy, more quiet groomer. Jeremy is a real asset, if he ever left, I would follow him. Can't wait for our appointment Friday! read more

This is a late review (time flies), for the dog trainers here. There are 2 I believe, Lindsey and Derek. I haven't taken any of Derek's classes but anytime that i or my dog have interacted with him he gives off good vibes. We signed our (at the time) 5 month old staffy/dobie mix up for puppy 1 class with Lindsey. The last time I did the whole puppy thing was 10 yrs ago with my first dog who I had taken to petsmart classes. From that I had formed the feeling that puppy classes weren't fun, they weren't something you wanted to do, but rather something that you had to do as a responsible pet owner. My opinion has since changed. Lindsey is great! She is very knowledgeable about a variety of dog things. She gave us great advice on how to remedy a couple of issues. Most importantly she really cares about the dogs! The biggest plus to me however, is that she understands that puppies only have so long of an attention span and will adjust the class accordingly. Which makes for owners and dogs not becoming frustrated and upset (which is what happened with my first dog). Very good positive training techniques that make it fun for everyone. We had such good results we took puppy level 2 as well. read more
