They sold us 5 tetras. As they picked them out of the tank the clerk found two were already dead. Within 48 hours of getting home, all 5 of ours were dead. When we tried to return them we got an attitude and were told our water was probably bad. I pointed out theirs had dead ones when we bought ours. She told me that's "because we overcrowd the tanks". Umm. Okay??? She then refunded our money. We walked past the tetra tank on the way out - only 1 of the 20 or so is still there - and was floating at the top. I'm done here. read more

We visited this location today and while we were browsing witnessed the manager, Cameron's, interaction with a customer. The customer was attempting to purchase a large iguana and place it in a 10 gallon tank. He discussed with her the requirements the animal would need and that the tank wasn't suitable. She ignored him and became very rude and belligerent, cussing and causing a scene, insisting he sell her the animal she wasn't equipped to care for. He was polite and professional in his attempt to educate her to no avail. After several attempts he finally informed her he wouldn't be selling her the animal at which time she said she'd be complaining to corporate. As a long time Petco customers and breeders ourselves, I don't think Cameron could've handled this situation any better and most likely saved this animals life. He should be commended for his professionalism and commitment to the safety and well being of animals in your care. I will continue to patronize Petco because of employees like Cameron. The way that customer interacted with the staff and her lack of concern for appropriate animal care, should have her banned from Petco for life. I look forward to buying from your East Sacramento store and seeing Cameron on future visits. read more

I always buy stuff in person in this store. First time buying online since COVID (I thought would be easier and less contact.) Well, I went to pick up and the cashier can't find the order in their system. After asking his manager, she said "ah yes I remember, someone else was in line to get that exact item and your order came after" ok I understand that but I didn't receive any email, I checked my bank and there is no money reverse transaction. So she (manager) said "ah go back online and place the order for the other product" and literally turned back! wth!! You couldn't say instead "let me go and get the other item for you" or something? I went back to the cashier and asked what I am supposed to do since there is no money back and showed him the screen with my bank app open.... so when she heard that is when she came back and said that I need to call a number, and brought a piece of paper with a phone number, gave it to me and told me to call and find out what happened because they can't do anything else for me. WTH ??? I understand that could be an error in the system or whatever but just hand me a piece of paper, not apologize for the inconvenience and just tell me to figure it out was rude!! The cashier did apologize but the manager didn't give a crap about me.... I called the number and the representative said that the cancellation of the order was done today!!! It was my puppy first time at the groomers and he was very nervous. Devin came in and asked if he can pet my dog, which was fine! He wanted to bond with my dog before I leave him because my puppy was very scared. Devin gave him treats and my pup loved it. I told Devin what I wanted for his haircut and he knew what my vision was. I picked him and and he looked sooooo cute!!!! Exactly what I wanted. I was nervous he was going to cut his hair really short but nope! It was perfect! Devin was great! I will be coming back and asking Devin to ask to cut my dog hair for now on. read more

It's amazing how different an experience you can get from one Petco groomer to another. I went to the Yuba city pet groomer after my golden doodle had been playing in the dirt for 2 weeks at my parents. He was to the skin dirty with Matting. This is normally an indoor dog and I didn't want to take him home in that condition. I had actually taken him there to do it myself and the groomer stepped in and did it for me (yes there were some up charges for additional conditioning). She was patient, kind, and didn't need to shave him. Fast forward a few months and waiting for a scheduled appt at this Petco nearest my home. I walk in and they are all ready to groom him, until I mention he has some matts around his collar and I don't mind if they have to cut them out and cut his hair to 1/2" total length if needed. Nope, that offer wasn't good enough and suddenly, "for the safety of the dog" the hair needed to be cut down to the skin. I tried talking to the manager who initially didn't think the matts were that bad, but after talking with his staff decided he was standing by what they said. By the way, no other dogs in the grooming area so they were really overwhelmed with business. I get the strong feeling they are unwilling to do the work required to groom a long haired dog properly and didn't want to get my animal back looking patchy and homeless so I left and decided to make an appt an hour away with a professional. Be careful bringing a long haired dog here... I'm not sure they can handle it. read more

So I've been taking my terroir and my lasso there for the past few months and the first time they left my terroir with a bald spot on his head and I let the groomer know and since then everything has been fine . I just want to say that although my experience has been okay so far there has been a lot of bad reviews coming from that location and that something needs to be done to correct these complaints . These complaints make me feel uneasy about taking my dogs in and I've recently scheduled an appointment. I will write another review to let everyone know how my next visit turns out . One last thing if one of the groomers does not do their job right or accidentally hurts one of the animals while grooming please let the owners know right away . Also please stop selling betas I've seen them in these small plastic containers with no room to move around and it is wrong as for the rest of the live pets you sell have a heart and treat them the way you would want to be treated or just stop selling anything that's alive . I will let everyone know how it is in the Folsom Blvd store as soon as I go in for my dogs grooming within the next couple of weeks . Oh Petco. You're big and new and shiny and you have guinea pigs and birdies and adoptions... and lots and lots of food for my kitties. But today your service was seriously lacking. It may be a little thing, but little things add up - sit down, kids, it's story time. Me: walks into Petco. Looks for cat food. Oh yay! Our little spoilt furball princesses will be pleased; their favorite cat food is 10/$10 if you have a card. My boyfriend has just obtained one for us! Hooray! I pick out 20 cans, and bring them up to the counter to be checked out. Checker confirms, that yes, the items are on sale! Yay! I realize my boyfriend has the Petco card. At home. Oops. The checker asks, "Want to fill out another application?" Me: "No. We have one already. We don't need another one for the household. Can you look it up." She sighs that exasperated sigh that lets me know I have destroyed her week, her life, and apparently shot laser beams at her first born. There are two customers total in the store. I am the only person in line. Oookay. "Name." I give her my boyfriend's name. "Nope, not here." Phone number? "Nope, not here." She asks again, "Sure you don't want to apply for another card?" Um, nope, we have one for both of us. The Great Service Ending/Alternate ending (this did not happen): "Hey, well, since you're already signed up with us, why don't I use my card today. Just make sure you bring your card back next time. I know we sometimes forget stuff," said with a smile, some friendly conversation, and some banter about the weather. What really happened: Her: "I don't understand why you don't want to sign up for another card." Me: "Yeah, we already get a lot of mail from you guys, and we *have* a card, that's not the issue. I live close by, I will just drive back home and get it from him." Her: "Oh, okay. I can just set this stuff aside for you. How long will it be?" Me: "Oh, only about an hour, you know, with traffic and stuff." (Politely snarky tone). Her: "Perfect! I'll set it aside." I drove home. I found the Petco card. And you know what I did? I went to the place I should've gone: Western Feed and Pet Supply, where the cashier not only informed me that they price match within a 5 mile radius, she also called Petco to confirm the discount, and happily charged me what I would've paid there. Small business for the win. And THAT is why I WON'T be shopping at Petco anymore. read more

It took two people to cut my Chihuahuas toenails. When I was watching them clip her nails the door opened and I heard my dog yelping not once but several times. They instead of stopping what they were doing continued to force her to stay still so they could make the buck and say they clipped her nails. We are not going back even though it is convenient. read more

Customer service was lacking for a brand new store. I wanted to do a drop in nail clip for my aunts dog since we were in the neighborhood but the groomer was actually sleeping at the counter!! What an atrocious experience if you are someone who both (a) likes animals and (b) understands the science behind dog training. My girlfriend and I went in here the other night to pick up done toys for a dog we're watching. We went in and immediately heard a woman shrieking at the top of her lungs, "uh-uh!" We turned the corner and see a young woman with a "dog trainer" shirt sitting in a chair with next to another woman. On the "trainer's" left was a pitty with a head harness on. She kept shrieking "uh-uh" when the dog nuzzled her. Apparently she was trying to teach the pitty how to not nuzzle. She might also have thought the pitty was deaf judging by her shrieking volume. Nevertheless, this continued as she fumbled through half-baked theories on learning. We checked out her biography and saw she calls herself a positive dog trainer. That is NOT positive dog training at all. At best it was positive punishment. If a consumer truly wants their dog trained in that style, I cannot stop them. But I vehemently object to allowing a person with no skills or training in positive dog training to call themself one. This "trainer" is clearly just some young girl who is interested in animals and took some two week course sponsored by petco. Think about it if it was your body, would you take advise from a trainer who took a quick course? Her biography didn't include any information on her program or knowledge--other than the aforementioned false advertisement. Do not go here for training needs. read more

If you are looking for Guinea Pigs, this store has the best selection. I went all over looking for baby guinea pigs and could not find any, all were large full grown. Went here as my last stop after being everywhere and "there they were" cute baby Guinea Pigs (the Folsom Blvd store next to Baskin Robins.) I bought one fluffy brown one...i forget the breed but he is really fluffy and fury...like swirly hair all over..dark brown and light brown. So cute w/his cute little noises, the girl that works their helped me get everything i needed for him. My daughter was so excited to have him, next day went back and got another baby Guinea Pig (grey and white) his hair is very soft and smooth not as fluffy as the other piggy, different breed. Went today and saw more baby guinea pigs, was almost tempted to get this brown and white w/black one or the all black baby male. Super cute! I highly suggest this place, took my piggies to the vet already and both are healthy. =) Hope this helps for anyone who is looking for guinea pigs! read more

Our pit bull mix weighs about 50lbs, but when we try to clip his nails, not even 3 full sized adults and hours of trying was enough get his cooperation, we tried everything. Soothing music, blankets, waiting for him to fall asleep to sneak up on him, nothing worked. Thank goodness for Jeremy S. In grooming!! I figured we would drop our dog off, go get coffee, browse the store, take a long vacation while Jeremy tried to clip his nails, afterall, I thought I knew my dog, and I thought there was just no way this was going to be a simple pedicure. But Jeremy had us in and out in 5 minutes, for $10. And my dog strutted out like it was no biggie. read more

I took my 2 French bulldogs in for simple baths. Nothing special just a bath. When we arrived the groomer started telling me how bad their skin was and started recommending tons of products. I assumed she knew what she was doing so I let her give them a face wash and a hot oil treatment. When I picked up my dogs she had me sign a paper that said that I declined a zoom groom because she forgot to offer it to me. It's a special groom for flat faced dogs so they aren't in the kennel as long. She never offered this to me and I would have liked to have had the option prior to leaving them there. After I brought them home, the next 24 hours were TERRIBLE. Both frenchies were extremely itchy and one was and still is extremely raw in his rolls and his skin is peeling off. I will have to take him to the vet and spend more money to fix the problem that a "professional" dog groomer created because she didn't know what she was doing. read more

I couldn't find what I was looking for being unfamiliar with the set up. Nobody was around to help me although I kept wandering around trying to find someone. We have been regular customers with this Petco Grooming for several years. We have 2 dogs and this past service which was November 2019, we were very let down and won't be returning. We paid extra for their nails to be filed, yet they were still so long when we picked them up that we had to take them elsewhere to have them re-done. On our previous visit, we paid extra for teeth cleaning and were told they just wiped them with a cloth because they were fidgety. (we could have done that ourselves) As we left the store, an employee rudely yelled at us to "shut the door." When we looked back, we saw that the auto doors were not working. We thought maybe the employees should have manually shut the doors since we were carrying 2 large crates with dogs in tow. I'm just going to add that it was very difficult to get these appointments, both on the phone and on-line (the site won't let you schedule 2 at the same time). Oh well, we'll be looking for another groomer. Maybe Petco is ok for some, but we expected more for a $70.00 visit. read more

Rude employees. I asked to see one of the animal shelter kittens and was told no. The employee said that only an Animal Shelter employee could help me and would have to be called in to do so. They said they don't open the cages and take the animals in & out for customers. All while not even looking at me and continuing to unload the stock from the cart in front of them. This is probably the 4th or 5th time I have not had the friendliest experience in the East Sac store. read more

The staff here is awesome. The grooming people were able to trim the nails of our very spastic, brand new shelter dog. Then we were able to get him into training with Brie and she has helped with his behavior tremendously. She is very good at explaining the training to you so that when you are on your own training your dog you understand how to handle any issues that come up. And as far as the store part goes the staff is always friendly and helpful. They will answer any questions you have about any of the pets or products and give great advice! read more

The bad review is specifically for the grooming. the first time I went the one girl did amazing my 5 month old chihuaha at the time looked amazing. However the following time I went in for a nail trimming, Rosa forgot to cut 4 of my dogs nails. I had to drive back to have someone else do it. A month later I call and Rosa answers and says she can cut my dogs nails and I asked for someone else and responded rudely with "no I am the only person here there will be no one else" I decided to wait for another day to call. A couple days later I call again and I can't remember her name to save my life but she rudely answered the phone and when I went to ask my question I can hear someone walk through the door and she rudely interrupts me and says hold on. (Wait why am I being put on hold when I called first with a quick question of who is there to cut my dogs nails ) after being on hold for 5 minutes she answers and tells me there is no one else here to cut your dog's nails I am too busy, when I tried to ask what time someone else will be in later she rudely said again I am too busy I can't help you and I just hung up on her. Like seriously on their website it says you don't need an appt for nail cutting but apparently you do. Decided to never take my puppy there again. read more

I have a 4 month old puppy who needed some chewy bones because she is teething. The clerk at the front desk recommended a product. I ended up buying a large bag of the product. When I looked on the company's website, it says that the product is not recommended for dogs under 9 months old. I told the clerk this when I returned them and told her that she should inform the staff. She said that she would tell the staff, but the product was still probably okay for puppies. Unbelievable! My puppy had another product of "adult" chew food and had to get xrays, which showed that the product was not digestible, causing many problems for her. I told the clerk that she actually was not right about this, and she still persisted in telling me that it would be okay? WTF? I have spend hundreds of dollars in food and pet supplies at this location and after this, I will never return to this store. Manager - tell your employees not to argue with the people that are supporting you. You've lost a very good customer who will now be going across the street to your competitor or shopping online. The good news is that they're open on New Years Day. I phoned to confirm that and asked if they have "Parasite Guard" by Tetra for tropical fish. Karen answered and said she would transfer me "back" to get somebody to check on that. After a while, Karen came back on the phone and answered as if I was a new caller, "Hello, Petco." "I'm the guy calling about the Fish Guard," I said. "Oh, did they hang up on you?" (?) she replied. "No, I've just been holding on the line." "Hang on, let me get that." I was put on hold for a long time and was doing other things when Karen again came back on the line, "Hello, Petco." (The third time!) "No, I'm the same guy still waiting on the Fish Guard!" "Well, I walked back and found out that we don't have it but when I got back you had hung up." "No, I've been waiting here the whole time." "Well, we don't have it." "Ok, thanks!" I know that there are some fairly intelligent dog breeds. When I was a boy, "we even taught my Beagle how to, "Speak!" I'm thinking if canines can be taught how to operate a multi-line phone system, then Karen is going to be out of a job! read more

Nice staff, offering practical advice. Clean store. Animals for purchase look as if they are in good health and enclosures are clean. Lots of items for cats and dogs, however I detracted a star for the very limited selection of reptile care items. It seems like they reduce the amount of reptile accessories every time I stop in. Got a bunch of stuff to spoil my cats today, but my albino corn snake is going to have to wait for her new goodies probably ordered from an online shop. read more

What makes this location 5 stars are the prices, (got a quality cat tree here for half the price it was at other pet supply stores), the selection, the convenience, but most of all, the customer service by Aaron. He is always so helpful, has a fun upbeat attitude, and I see him lovingly interacting with the caged animals. The people who work at this store are so helpful and friendly. I have always received great customer service at this location. One time I had to get a kennel in the morning before work and couldn't be late, one of the workers actually built/put the kennel together while I was paying to help me save time. We have taken our two large dogs to the Camelia Shopping Center (Folsom Blvd.) location for grooming several times now. The staff are fantastic, really love dogs and do a great job. Nancy is wonderful and knows our dogs by name. Both dogs eagerly enter the store with no signs of nervousness, even when being taken back to the grooming area. I adopted a rescue dog from this location thru an event Petco gave the last Saturday in June. I picked up the dog on July 5th. I was given a Petco Pack with a bunch of coupons and a registration form from Petco to receive more coupons and pet services using rewards card with Petco. So today I go in getting a kennel, harness, oh a coupon for a small pet cage perfect for my birds, dog food and other misc. items. I was gonna use the grooming coupon, get my new chihuahua all dolled up. Well evidently the coupons I got expired 06/30 and as for the registration to receive additional Petco coupons and advertisements, I was told by the manager very smug and impolitely is something that the pet rescue center is responsible to handle! Really, the pet rescue is gonna send me a Petco card and more Petco Coupons!?! Well guess what I took the EXPIRED coupons and packet to Petsmart. Told them my story not only did they honor the discount noted on the expired coupons my dog will be getting groomed. Now I am registers with Petsmart. read more
