So I don't normally think of reviewing pet stores, but I walked out of this one a few weeks ago and just thought that I had to. I think that most pet stores are the same but the difference with this one I think is the people that work here. I walked in frustrated and worried because my new adopted kitty came with fleas :( He then spread it to the other two and I had three infested felines at home and it made me so sad to think of the poor things scratching and eating them.... gross! So, after staring at the selection for what seemed like forever, I went over to ask an associate his opinion. Travis helped me out and when I asked him if he new anything about flea meds for cats he looked at me all serious and stated that he knows just about everything on all their flea products. Fantastic! Someone that knew what they were talking about and could ease my worries! He promptly told me about each of them and advised me against the decision I was about to make. I felt so comfortable and happy walking out of there, it was just such a nice experience. And, I can proudly state that after worm medication and the flea products my cats are healthy and happy :) read more

Due to the prices at Petco, I have returned to Petsmart. I have altered my expectations, but to save over $20.00 on the grooming bill, I will suck it up. read more

Normally this place is good but today that changed, I went in to make an exchange and the lady, (some white lady with glasses) who was helping us snatched the paper we were filling out our hands saying your address doesn't match I can't help you and was extremely rude, she then said that she was the manager. I myself am a manager and I understand company policy but you don't have to be extremely rude when trying enforce it, someone needs to teach her some customer service skills or she needs to look for another job read more

This review is for a grooming service employee at this petco location, I think his name was Qui. My dog is very nervous and generally fearful of unfamiliar places and new people, but I had brought him here a few times before for nail trimming and it's always gone fine. He is usually scared but the other employees have acted gently and sensitive to his fears and have been able to quickly trim his nails and get him out with no issues. This particular employee was not gentle at all and was roughly handling my dog who was clearly terrified (much more scared than he has ever been here before). This employee cut the quick on his nails making him bleed at least 5 times and I saw my dog yelp and jerk back in fear and pain multiple times. He became more afraid of the groomer after being cut a few times which made the situation more difficult but Qui continued to cut his nails roughly instead of asking for another employees help or just stopping. By the time he was done my dog came out panting and terrified and still bleeding from 2 nails. I will never bring him back here again. read more

Good selection of products. They have grooming services for dogs and a doggy daycare center also. This place is huge and many people bring their dogs. They told me cats and all animals are welcome but be warned that there are often many loud dogs visiting that may scare smaller animals. the prices seemed pretty good to me but others have told me that they are expensive compared to dedicated pet food stores. worst hair "cut" every for my dog. cost almost 2xs as much. They did not what "blowing out a coat" means. They trimmed all the white end feathers off her black tail, ubevenly I might add. All they did way bath and brush... too much! She has always come from the groomers sleek and beautifu, now her top coat does not lie flat and her leg feathers are frizzy. I didn't know ot was possible to make her frizzy! She is still shedding! Never again... if you want a beautiful grooming job find a pro, my big mistake..... read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience! However let me give you both the pros and cons. PROS: * Wonderful, clean facility. They have a machine to clean accidents the second they happen. * Very fun play structure. * Front desk help and the girl who works in the small dog area (I think named Bree) are fabulous. *Webcam to watch your dog from work, etc. CONS: * Guy who works in the large dog area in the morning and early afternoon HORRIBLE! Stands with his hands in his pockets the whole time just staring at the dog even if they come up to him and want to be pet or played with (girl in the little dog area plays the whole time rolling balls, giving pets, etc.) Only time he interacted with our dog was to pull our dog by the collar. * Extremely arrogant, unfriendly dog trainer named Christine who is called in to come and judge your dog if they feel he or she is out of line. So here's the back story: At the time we had just bought our coonhound/pointer puppy. We had him for a month and he had already been through a course of dog training through another company however still acted like a puppy. Since at 7 months old, he was already 70 lbs he went to the large dog side and was treated as a grown dog and they expected him to know better. And since he was a shelter dog for over 2 months he had a ton of socialization with others before. He has a lot of puppy energy and since he's a hound, if no one plays with him he hunkers down to their level and bays in their face thinking this is how you make friends. He doesn't take no for an answer and used to fixate on a dog until someone would play with him (where the employee probably should have been throwing balls or something for him. And yes we recognize this problem but it's been rectified since at his new doggie daycare.) Instead they would crate him. He is DEATHLY afraid of crates due to the shelter. On more than one occasion we received a call a few hours after dropping him off saying he needs to be picked up or he's going to be crated for the day because he's being "aggressive". This dog has never EVER been aggressive. When we watched on the web cam, all he was doing was barking at others because he was bored and wanted to play. Employee just stood there the whole time and occasionally pulled my dog away from the other or at best cleaned up potty accidents. Also once when I walked into Petco to pick him up, a worker at the front (Travis) was chatting with a customer and as our dog was walking by he said "He's known as the bad dog around here." Really?? Who wants to walk in to pick up their dog after a long day at work and hear my dog has a "bad dog" reputation that's being spread. SO we pulled him out. Long story short, he now goes to Dr. Dave's 3 times a week and while it's not the best looking facility (however they are under construction) they are the most loving and they receive a TON of dogs a day which is ideal for our dog as he always has a friend to play with and it shows people really trust them despite the colorful toys Petco has. Never once have we been called. They take my dog on 3 walks a day and the staff LOVES my dog. Been going for months. It's refreshing to walk into a place and the people are happy to see my guy instead of mumble under their breathe, avoid eye contact, and rearrange dogs to different sides because my dog is coming in. I'm glad others had a better experience than we did and if you chose to use them I hope you have a great experience with Petco as well. We however did NOT. read more

Was told by an employee claiming to be the "manager" to LEAVE THE STORE and get my refund in Mountain View where I originally made purchase (he couldn't spell my last name properly to find in their database and I looked on the computer screen to help him - he got defensive that he needed my help!). And this so called manager was joined by another employee not wanting to service me. I refused to leave, and called their customer service (third party vendor - based in the Phillipines aka outsourcing jobs!!) when the "real" manager came out of nowhere to apologize and give me my refund. Hoaky, privately held company, can't get ANYONE in corporate to take your call - forced to go through Phillipines to get my complaint filed. No accountability - who really knows who the real manager is! Go to Petsmart - publicly held, have to be transparent. read more

I have been to this petco twice now. Each time I have visited the fish department. Each time I have seen dead fish in the tank. Each time I have wandered around the fish section looking for someone to help me to ask a question but nobody has given me any customer service. Did I just come on the bad days? read more

This review is ONLY for the self-bathing area. Horrible. The BF and I came here to bathe doggie as he was smelly, needed a bath, and our normal doggie bathing spot was closed (it was New Years Day). $10 bucks, so it's cheap but soooo not worth it. Since we hadn't bathed our dog here before, we asked the girl behind the counter how it worked. She pointed us through a door and said it's all back there. Nothing more. We walk through the door into a small room with four industrial doggie wash stations with the pull-out ramps that got stuck. There were only the super cheap plastic aprons that were ineffective, holey towels and a shopvac/blow dryer. No shampoo provided. Almost useless staff. We asked the girl about a special they were running on trimming nails. She completely skirted the question and started talking about something else. Probably because doggie is a pit/lab mix, which I understand, but at least acknowledge the fact that we asked a question. If the answer is no, because he's a pit, that's okay. Say it. Don't ignore it. Won't be returning here for grooming ever. Spend the extra $5 and go to Pet Food Express on El Camino. Trust me. read more

This is for the GROOMING services. I just recently got a dog from the shelter. When I called to make the appointment I told them that. When I dropped her off I told them that. They had a promotion listed online, in the ad & on the wall IN the grooming section for a free upgrade to deluxe but the groomer didn't seem to know anything about it & had to walk over to the sign to see it (yeah, don't think I'll be getting any of those upgrades!). When I was dropping her off, I should have stopped there, because the groomers didn't seem friendly with the dogs and the person picking up his dog when I was dropping off had to remind them that he had a leash with the dog. When I picked up her up I also had to remind of the leash. As she was getting the leash I looked at my dog (my very 1st dog) and she didn't look 100% clean. Her tail still looked dirty & so did her nails. I looked at all of her nails & asked "I thought that clipping nails is part of the full service groom?". The girl said, oh, yeah, I think it is. Looked at my dogs nails & said, oh well, would you like them clipped? REALLY? I said yes I would. She then went back in & talked to the other groomer that told her that they had been clipped. The 1st girl came back & said she had. I showed her my dog's nails that were still dirty & obviously not clipped. Another girl came out with a nail cuter & said she could do it there, on the counter next to the register. Umm, yeah, good idea, NOT. I had my kids with me & there was another man in there, yea, my dog is going to feel comfortable doing it there. Of course she didn't & tried nipping away at her hand. I told her I didn't think it was a good idea to try here. I said I didn't want to pay for the clipping then since they didn't clip her nails. She said there was no way for her to separate it out of the bill. I pointed out they charged me an extra $11 for something (they ended up keeping the bill so I don't remember exactly what it was, although I didn't understand that charge either since I got a full service groom & it was something about shampoo/cut or something). She said she couldn't take that charge off. So I asked for a manager. She came out of the grooming area & told me that my dog was biting her the whole time & it's in their policy that they don't have to take dogs that bite. I said 1) I told both when I made the appointment & when I brought her in that she was a shelter dog & this was her first time 2) No one told me about this "policy" 3) If you have this policy, why did you guys play it off that you did clip her nails & now you're saying you couldn't because she was biting? and 4) Why wasn't I called to come and get her if you have a policy about biting? I also said I thought that they would have experience with shelter dogs since they house adoptions from the shelter in this store. I asked for the store manager & some person came saying the manger was eating. I told him the problem & said he'd ring me up front. He said he couldn't take anything off the bill but discounted me 20% off, which was almost the $11 mysterious charge. My dog's nails weren't clipped, she wasn't bathed well nor did we get the "upgrades" that were in the ad. Lastly, the attitude, lack of friendliness to the animals and poor customer service of the grooming staff has left a terrible impression and I will never take my dog there again. As I walked out, I noticed a sign saying they are hiring groomers. read more

Having never owned a pet, I nervously set about shopping for a fish tank and accessories for my kids. Expecting an experience similar to that to Home Depot where it is pretty much impossible to find people to help you, I took a fish tank experienced friend with me. I was pleasantly surprised to find someone (Tim) there who was actually willing to talk at length about the various types of fish,and which would be best for our need. I left the store feeling much more confident about embarking on this adventure. I hope Tim's level of knowledge is representative of the kind of service people hired by Petco. read more

So this review is well overdue, but completely necessary. I had been getting my dog groomed at this location ever since she was a puppy, so about 6 years. So just like any other day, I dropped my baby off and I went on with my day. After I got the call that she was ready, I rushed over there to pick her up. As I walked into the grooming salon I told the woman at the desk that I was there to pick up my dog. As I was saying this a man comes up behind me and says he thinks he was given the wrong dog, due to how short her hair was. He didn't realize that the dog wasn't his because he didn't recognize it, but only because the hair cut wasn't what it was supposed to be. As shocked as I was to hear this, that these people were able to give the wrong dog away, it took me a moment to realize it was my dog that they had given to this guy. Before this incident, this was my store. I came here and only here to buy all of my animals products. Ever since this happened Ive been going to Petsmart, and honestly I couldn't be happier. If I could give less than a star I would, I couldn't even imagine what they would have said if the guy never realized he had the wrong dog. I don't even know if he got her home and realized, or just to the register or to the car. My dog hates the grooming salon, so she would be happy to leave with anyone, she also loves all people, so she would be happy as long as someone was taking her out of there. read more

We have been going to Petco forever, even before it was Petco. I have 5 dogs, 1 English Mastiff, 2 English Bulldogs and 2 Pugs. I have never been impressed with the salespeople and their lack of knowlefge. I mostly know what I am shopping for and do not need their lack of expertise to direct me in any way.. However, when I check out in line, there always seems to be a problem with coupon codes, coupons, etc. We came into the store close to closing time this evening and Trevor was rude and unhelpful as ge wanted to get out by 7, we were there at 6:58. He threw are coupons back at us twice and made no attempt to satisfy us, the customer. We will no longer shop at your store, because your lack or knowledge and lack of customer service. Safeway and Costo have competetive prices for the same products we need, so shopping at your store has become unnecessary. Your sales people are as unnecessary as they are uninterested, uneducated and uniforned . Employees seem way to concerned about going on their breaks than taking any kind of genuine interest in his/her job. This store is in a nice area with many affluent, nice quality pet owners, your employees are a real deficit to your company, bottom of the barrel accross the board, This service has been a problem for years. I am sorry that I will no longer shop at your store and I will advise all my friends to do so also. This store needs to train their employees in customer service and customer etiquete, they are so sorely lacking in both that I am embarrassed for you. read more

Tracy was very helpful in recommending products and services. She also made sure we were a good match for the cat. She asked pointed questions about why we wanted a pet; were we ready; etc. They could seem nosy, but she was doing her job to ensure the pet was going into the right home. Didn't realize there was a Petco near my house until today. I've been driving to the one on El Camino this entire time! Service is really nice here and I really enjoy that they have an adoption center, daycare and provide grooming services. Not sure if all Petco's have these but I was pretty impressed. Only thing is that this place could be cleaner. Found a couple yellow puddles in the aisles today so I feel like clean up might be a little slower at this loxation. read more

My sons chameleon died and we took it in here and the manager was awesome she took care of the problem, replaced it and apologized sincerely many times and took care of the dead one! Gave me absolutely no hassle towards getting a new one I absolutely think she handled the situation perfectly! I was super happy with the service and would go back here with my business!! read more

Very disappointed . Have been coming here for a long time with three different pets. Quality of work has steadily declined over the years and so did customer service. For instance, picked up my dog with poop on her behind after a day of grooming. Last straw was today : brought dogs for grooming as scheduled. Turns out salon messed up the schedule and had them down for a different time (1 hour earlier). I have my note from scheduling , but they wouldn't take the dogs, who are already stressed out about coming here. They didn't seem particularly busy and were totally rigid and rude about this whole thing. They normally keep them there all day , so I don't understand why they couldn't be more accommodating. "Yelp away" said the manager. So here it is. No more Petco grooming for us. read more

what the hell ... they cut my dog's fur..like everything when i asked only trim for the ear, paws, tail ..are they stupid? so idiotic. Do they not understand english? They should get the ones who understands and at least had their ELD done before they even apply for this kind of job. My dog looks so ill now. I am so mad. And people say the workers are great? only the korean cutter is good. NOT THE OTHER ONES. they don't know english NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN I would NEVER EVER GO THERE again. This is an exceptionally well-run day care. I love the webcam and have to pull myself away from watching my dog play all day! The trainers and staff are great with the dogs, they are closely supervised, it's immaculately clean and I can't say enough good about it. Best of all, they are safe. The customer service at this location is a hit or miss. The reason why I have gone here as they carry the Blue Buffalo line that my dog enjoys. However after the last time that I went the customer service was just awful that I have decided to not return to Petco and just do my shopping at Pet Food Express. read more

DOGGIE DAYCARE review! My little shitzu goes to daycare 2x week for the last 6 months. I love the attention and the way they personally get to know your pet. I am very happy with both the grooming and daycare services of this petco store. I feel comfortable when I leave my pet in their hands for the day! I am happy that my pet gets the social interaction with other smaller dogs in safe surroundings. I recommend this petco for both grooming and daycare services. read more

Worst place ever. My dog got a severe skin rash from one of the dogs because one of the groomers did not ask the owner of said dog for their vaccination records. Also there is a severe lack of communication with the staff. I called to reserve an appointment and they said they didn't have an appointment for my dog that day. Turns out, one of the workers forgot to schedule my dog and I had to wait another week for an appointment. Go to a different petco, this place is absolutely horrendous. read more

I'm a Petco Grooming convert. I have to say I don't shop here a lot since I prefer smaller more service oriented pet stores rather than a huge warehouse experience. I also have gone to the same groomer for 10 years but when my dog got really dirty and my regular groomer was on vacation I was desperate and walked into Petco since they have do-it-yourself bathing services. The ladies behind the counter were so super nice and friendly I decided to let them groom my dog instead. They spent at least 10 minutes talking about what I expected and wanted and how he responded to being groomed (it was like my dog was a real person!) I was blown away with what a great job they did and the prices are reasonable. I have been there several times since and they always remember my dog and do a good job. The best part is that you can usually get an appointment the same week. Also, every 8 grooms you get one free which adds up quickly. read more

I take my dog Puffy there every day and he loves it. They have great customer service and offer grooming service while my dog is there at daycare. I work a lot and love that they offer webcam accesses through my computer and smart phone. So I always check to see how my dog is doing. I had a terrible experience here with grooming. I explained to them what I wanted. I told them to not cut my dogs hair real short. I picked out the length on their fur chart. I told them to leave the top knot. My dog has beautiful white hair and was darling. I came back four hours later to a almost shaved dog. They did not do anything I said! They cut off her top knot and gave her a poodle hair cut. She is not a poodle. They absolutely ruined her looks. She does not even look like the same dog. Her hair will not grow back fast enough for me. You can bet I won't be back. This was very disappointing to say the least. I cannot recommend a place where they do not listen to the customer! read more

My son and I have a Pomeranian. My son named him Sparkee. Having no experience with the Pomeranian breed, I started to realize that Sparkee needed professional grooming. Going through several groomer's and frustration my prayer was answered when I found LISA. She is so knowledgable, helpful, nice, but best of all she is fast, always on time and Sparkee always looks GREAT when I pick him up. I get the Zoom Groom which takes LISA about 1-hour, 30-minutes. I have been going to LISA for 5-years. My sister has 2-dogs she also takes her dogs to LISA. My sister and I (joking) tell LISA, you can never retire. LISA is the BEST! read more

My complaint is BAD customer service. I took my dog into Petco for grooming today because I had received a Petco coupon in the mail. The groomer did a fantastic job. At checkout, the cashier happily informed me the coupon was not acceptable for grooming services as indicated in the fine print. I understand and accept that the fine print got the best of me, but did the cashier have to be so happy about it? No softening of the blow. No apology. No sign that he cared about my return business one little tiny bit. I think he wanted to be as unpleasant as possible. I left feeling like never returning again. My pooch penny comes to Pooch play and always has a great time! I appreciate how they always escort her to grooming as well as ask if I need any items from the store because they shop for me! This is a fantastic place for her while I'm in school. They're staff is awesome and loves Penny! read more
