While running errands, I stopped by Petco to look at cat carriers. It's a very nicely organized store with plenty of employees ready to help. I stopped by the adoption section and visited with an adorable kitten named Plum. Hopefully she will get adopted soon. I browsed the cat food selection and was impressed with the selection and variety of cat food. I asked for help in finding a cat carrier. An employee took me to that section and showed me a few varieties. Their supply was low because their delivery truck was late. I'll have to come back when they have a bigger selection, which is fine. I'm just doing my research first before I make a purchase. I visited the birds, reptiles and fish before leaving. There were quite a few parakeets for same in different colors. My favorite were the blue ones. They had two different types of parrots that were so beautifully colored. There was also one chameleon hanging out in his enclosure. I enrolled my poodle, Chanel, in the Fundamentals class at the Petco on Cottle Rd, and I can't say enough good things about our trainer, Amelia. She is patient, informative, and very attentive. Chanel responds so well to her teaching style, and I love that Amelia gives us homework to practice at home. Chanel has made great progress with her sit, stay, down, and leave it commands in just a short time. The classes are also offered at a very affordable price, which makes them even more worthwhile. Chanel can be a bit leash reactive, and Amelia has shared practical tips and best practices that I can use outside of class. They've already helped a lot. Now I remember why I stopped taking my dog to vetco.... Got an email from vetco promoting 20% off professional dental cleaning at participating vetco locations. Called them and asked if this promo would be honored even if their earliest appointment would go beyond the promotion expiration date. They said YES. So I booked an appointment for her wellness exam and dental check up to see if she qualifies for dental cleaning. The participating vetco with the promo is about an hour away from where I live, but the promo was too good to give up. A few days prior to the check up I had to reschedule because their doctor was sick, no big deal. Then they called to reschedule again because they booked me with a temp doctor and not their home doctor by accident... again no big deal. Just a slight annoyance. Day of actual appointment, they prescribed rabies and DAPP. They said her vaccines would be valid for 1 year. I had to reiterate that Koda is usually on 3 year vaccines and after some back and forth convincing, they finally agreed... without my prior knowledge of this they would've easily scammed me out of this and made Koda get these vaccines every year. They are the professionals, they should've noted this without me having to convince them. Then they quoted me for dental and I asked about the promo. In which the nurse said it's just for grooming. So again, I had to convince them it was for professional cleaning and show them my screen shots. Then they said they won't honor it since they are booked out for dental until July. I mentioned my discussion with the front desk and emphasized that the only reason I drove an hour to this location and changed Kodas vet to vetco was for this promotion. The manager dismissed me and just said they couldn't honor it. What a waste of time. Should've just stuck to my original vet clinic and saved myself the stress of multiple rebooking, 1 hour drive, convincing vaccine due dates, and all for a promotion they said they would honor but weren't even aware of the promo when I showed up and then denied me on the spot. Brennan was just too cute to pass up, so I adopted him! The adoption process was easy and the PetCo staff were so happy and helpful when I picked him up. All of the staff I encountered were so nice and projected a sense of having a sincere love for animals. This review is for their Grooming services! One morning after walking Nala to the adjacent park in Cottle, my sister and I decided to check out the grooming services petco has to offer. They added a tent outside for info. This was still during Covid-19 times. We met Chris and gave us good information for when we are ready to Have our Nala to be groomed! Of course she's a nervous love bug so she growls and lunges over but Chris was complimenting her and her name, I continue to apologize bc she's not fully trained not to bark and be mean to strangers and it always gets me nervous thinking she'd bite someone! After I got get spayed and all her vaccines were finally completed I booked an appointment featuring blue berry facials LOL ( I know what you're thinking! HOW FREAKIN CUTE RIGHT!? ) so we go there first thing in the morning and we meet up with Chris outside who is the most gentle, most cutest thing ever! My sister and I just love his energy. My Nala girl can be a bit difficult in first encounters but she's truly a sweet girl and I love how he respected that. He took his time to get her to feel comfortable! And when we picked her up the number we couldn't be happier with the haircut number we'd selected! We love her teddy bear cut around the face and her cute little black bows! I have been on and off about going to petco bc of sooo many stories but I'm glad, I think I found our stylist during our first appointment! And I couldn't be any happier! Going back to the bow. I've been wanting to write a review about are only positive experiences at this store. They are always friendly , and very helpful although I've seen some reviews that say otherwise. This last time we went in, we went for a grooming appointment for both of my dogs. The groomer was Naomi, and she did such an amazing job. Especially because I know they are big, and it can be extremely tiring. Something extra that I loved is how she even left our receipt, with both of my dogs names. Adding a star to take accountability for my misunderstanding. But if I'm purely leaving a review for the experience and service at Petco on Cottle Rd., I'd leave one star. This location failed to cancel an appointment I cancelled. My husband and son accidentally went to the wrong location for our puppy's next vaccination appointment, and came to Petco on Cottle Rd. Admin failed to cancel our appointment and still had us on the schedule, and proceeded to take our puppy in the back to be examined even after my husband and son arrived concerned that they were at the correct location. Not to mention, our puppy's profile/records were not reviewed or pulled up to confirm what vaccinations were needed to prepare our puppy, BEFORE they accepted to see our puppy. We were charged $56 for an examination that should have never happened. This location failed to help us understand if we were at the correct location. It wasn't until the vet was preparing to begin giving our puppy vaccinations, that the vet realized their was no record of our puppy on their end and they were unsure what vaccinations were needed. Upon waiting for our puppy to be given back to my husband and son, when they checked our puppy out, they slapped us with a fee even after we addressed our case that this was not fully our fault. Their response is "our vet performed an examination." Petco on Cottle Rd., you performed services on a pet you didn't bother confirming you should be seeing and before reviewing their full profile, and failed to help customers who were also expressed their concerns about being at the correct clinic. Absolutely disappointing. Do yourself a favor, find a clinic that is honest and takes accountability for where they also fall short. read more

Service was so terrible that I had to write a review. I'm not one to shit on someone but goddamn it must be done. My family came here to buy some supplies for our turtle, including feeder fish. Our turtle is 15 years old and we had her from when she was a size of a quarter. First off the sales associate seemed to be avoiding us in the fish section. I'm guessing it's because I have two preschool aged children who were happily, and respectfully seeing the fish. I get it, kids are not for everyone. When I asked her for help with the feeder goldfish, she asked how big our tank was. It's 11am on a Sunday (3/5) and I couldn't remember our turtles tank size (it's really big). It hit me that she was asking because she assumed the fish were for pets. I informed her they are for my turtle and she said ok how many. I said 5 but knowing their policy on not being able to pick, I ALWAYS ask if they can at least have some type of color or marking since our turtle has a difficult time seeing the all silver ones. She always has and for the past 15 years of living in SJ with this turtle NO PLACE HAS EVER NOT GIVEN A SLIGHT EFFORT in helping us get fish even with a smudge of color. I get it, it's not easy catching these fish but I'm really not asking for much. NO one has never not tried for us. But this woman, dipped the net in and waved it around for not even 3 seconds and picked out 4 all silver fish and 1 orange one. I know the policy. I had a this turtle for 15 years but seriously the effort this lady gave me from the beginning to the end of this interaction was crap. I didn't manage to get her name but she had camo colored crocks with metal spikes sticking out of them. Young, maybe late 20s with a blonde streak in the front of her hair. If you LOVE your pets and do not appreciate gross service, this is for you......During one of the very heavy rains on exactly the evening of February 3rd, we ventured to this store to get food for these 2 loves of ours. The Nulo medal series dry cat food was tagged on sale "good thru Feb 3rd". At the register the discount did not reflect. The gentleman at the register got very defensive when I asked that the tag on the shelf read "good thru Feb 3rd" and THAT day was February 3rd. The cash register said "I don't know what you read, this is the price". My husband asked the "gentleman" to go to the shelf and see the tag for himself, when the "gentleman" came back he ripped the tag from the shelf and said "THIS ENDED YESTERDAY, THIS IS NOT GOOD TODAY, THIS ENDED at 1AM YESTERDAY Feb 2nd", he proceeded to tell us how different our perception of the world was in that we didn't understand English nor understood the sale price tag. The guy got more and more angry until he went from repetitive and unreasonable to offensive, once he couldn't explain the lie of the sale any more, he finished by saying "AND YOU KNOW WHAT? I DON'T HAVE TO SELL YOU THIS IF I DON'T WANT TO", he grabbed all of our loved ones food that we carefully had shopped for over 1/2 hr! and put it all behind the counter, so we took the humiliation and left the store. There were several other customers in line to pay who looked appalled!. What was more surprising was that the lady on the register next to the cashier "gentleman" who appeared to be a manager, supported all his rude interaction, including "the sale ended yesterday - even though the sale tag read -good thru Feb 3rd". Next we left and called the store a few minutes later, a "Stephanie" answered, we asked to speak w the store manager, we were put on hold, then again the same "Stephanie" person answered again faking to be the manager and faking to be a different person than the one who first answered the store phone, she (Stephanie again) stating to be the manager said we were very rude in the store and that it wasn't illegal for them to mistreat loyal customers. The manager's name is BTW Jaiden W. We also reported this to the PETCO corporate team. That same night....because our 2 loved ones had no food to eat that night (yes bad humans we are for not having food on time) drove to the other PETCO by Oakridge.....goodness! over there is a different beautiful world, the cash register guy (JESSE) was beyond helpful, even offering to bring the bags to the car in the middle of the storm, without even knowing yet the incident at this Cottle Rd location. BTW, PETCo by Oakidge had a similar type of sale "good thru Feb 3rd" except they DID applied it at the register......because "good thru February 3rd" is good...in any language :) We will never go back, would you shop there? read more

This review is only for the grooming department. About 1 month ago, I brought my puppy here for a wash/groom service. After 20 minutes they called me and said they couldn't handle my dog, as a safety concern (my dog is less than 40lbs). I was a bit shocked as that was the only place I had ever taken her for bath/grooming/nail cutting. When we went to get my puppy, they told me they will try again. Again, got the same phone call. Toke her back a few days later, there was no problem. Strange if you ask me. Fast forward this month, dog went to a 3 week training session, never been accused of biting anyone (i have 2 kids under 3 at home). Not even when she is eating does she growl if you touch her. I made another appointment for 12pm on 2/18/2024, after 45 minutes they call and tell me that my dog is aggressive and is trying to bite. Then they blame it on anxiety because the weekend is their busiest time. How is it, the 3 weeks my dog was at boarding school training not one time they told me she tried to bite, even when they gave her a bath. I have a disturbing update to report about Jenny from the grooming salon at this Petco. Apparently she lives somewhere in my larger neighborhood. I was walking my dog in the neighborhood park and she happened to be there with her own two dogs. Jenny walks up to me and "confronts" me about the review I wrote about her on Yelp earlier this Summer. I have never experienced a service transaction to turn so ugly where someone from a retail establishment basically hounds a customer on the street to pick up a confrontation. The truth is she had done an extremely disappointing grooming job on my baby dog. As a pet parent I was obviously very upset. I gave my honest review so that other doggies don't suffer the same bad service. This service incident was bad enough but the incident with Jenny at the park was beyond acceptable. When I told her this, she asked me "go for it" and do whatever I want to do about reporting her. I have reported the park incident to the Petco store manager Xavier. Jenny - if you see this - please learn a career lesson from this experience. You will run into stakeholders in the work environment who will not be happy with the results you deliver but that doesn't mean you take things to heart. Take not so great input in your stride, make the necessary amends, then dust it all off! I'm not sure why the reviews have been so low on this store. I shop here quite often for my pet needs. The store is clean and I have had good customer service . I especially like the shot clinics, where you can get low cost shots and get the same quality as your vet. They also will do a mini exam on your pet. There is a lot of selection for pet food, treat and items you will need. The grooming has been good, seems to be a little hiccups in that dept the last couple times I have brought my dog but, overall good service. Sometimes there are no carts. This Petco tends to be the most stable compared to the ones I tend to go to. I believe April the aquatic expert is very helpful along with Olivia whose normally at the register. Also the two girls that cleaned my dogs who I forgot the names did great. I removed one star because I find it unfair (if it's true) that the team members in training don't receive the tip I leave when they're the ones that cleaned my dog. Besides that I think the new management for grooming seems a lot nicer and professional. I like to believe how tips work at Petco is based on upper management and if so I find it hard to understand why team members under training don't receive the tip. I think that should change, personally. Now question goes, who gets the tip and why? read more
