Do not take your pets here for a nail trim. I took my dog here for a walk in trim and the entire experience was unprofessional. I was quoted $20 over the phone and told to bring cash only and they told me at the store that it was $30 instead because they needed help holding her because she was scared. They also made two of her nails bleed because they cut the quick!!! Edit: I carried her to the car and spots of blood had appeared on my dress in my lap when I sat down with her. She has never bled before from a nail trim. I know she is anxious with nail trims but has never required a muzzle and other places either let me know and ask me to hold her or have someone else hold her which she does fine with. I was told the price AFTER they had started cutting her nails and was not told of the charge prior. My six year old 55lb German Shepherd mix has never been to a grooming salon before, we have a friend come to us to groom her every month but she wasn't able to do it this month so I called Madeline's based on Yelp and Google reviews as well as location and they were able to take her same day! She was there for a few hours and I was nervous the whole time as she's been reactive to grooming her feet and fluffy butt in the past but I was so happy to hear she did well and wasn't a problem at all! I needed a grooming appointment last minute and Terri was thankfully able to squeeze me in for the next day. I have to admit, when I first walked in, I was a little hesitant about leaving my dog here because there were other dogs barking and the place looked a little outdated. However, in the end, I was very impressed with the quality of my dog's haircut. The groomer (I believe her name is Julie) matched the exact style I had requested and trimmed the fur around my dog's eyes extremely neatly. I would definitely recommend this salon to others. My experience served as a reminder not to judge a book by its cover. I just wish the price was more affordable :( At the same time, I recognize that the price did closely match that of other salons. I was looking for a groomer where my dog felt safe and got excellent service-I get both at Madeline's! I have been getting my Bichon Frise ( whose coat grows like a chia plant!) groomed monthly there and they NEVER disappoint! His cuts are always on point, he smells good, and his coat is soft and beautiful! When I request a summer cut or a lighter trim for winter they always are responsive. [Edit] I left a message addressing the issue about the bald spot, they got back to me the next day and said the spot was already there when they got her. We assume she got that from trying to stick her nose out of the carrier box too much. Changing my review for the fast response and smooth experience. I took my cat to this pet groomer for the first time, and everything went smoothly during the visit. Unfortunately, I noticed a new bald spot on her nose after I picked her up. Thankfully, she didn't seem too stressed about it. I'm hoping it wasn't because of over-grooming and it will not happen to other cats. The appointment and communication were easy. I dropped her off in the morning and picked her up around noon. They also checked for fleas (thankfully, none were found). But, they did detect tapeworms, which I'm expecting to address soon since she was recently rescued. Overall, it was a good experience for a reasonable price ($125 for a domestic medium hair). We took our Dandie Dinmont Terrier here after trying other local places that did a fine job, but we were hoping for a bit better. Making an appointment was easy and we were able to be moved up by placing ourselves on the cancellation list, which got us in a week earlier than expected. Just walking in, you can tell they're experienced pros who know their grooming. They're also nice, ask the right questions, and suggest what they can do given the incoming situation. In our case, I had done an uneven trimming job leaving my dog's coat different lengths, so they suggested going shorter to let things even out. Also to cut his topknot shorter given how short the rest of his coat would be. I took their advice. Given how short my dog's cut ended up being, it's hard to exactly judge grooming skill on the body. But his head was done as well as it's ever been done, and I have real confidence that in a different situation (with his coat more even in length coming in) that they would have been able to groom him as a Dandie should. But don't get me wrong - his body was also done really well, but it was just short due to my bad trimming work earlier. We'll definitely come back again, even though this is pretty far from where we live. And even though it's more expensive than his previous groomers, I may come more often than the usual 2x/year because from what I've seen they do an exceptional job and I'm really curious what they can do once his coat grow out evenly more and they have a better starting point. In summary, we were really happy with Madeline's Pet Grooming and highly recommended it based on our first experience here. read more

I specified only shave/cut her stomach because of her mats but she received a trim on her whole body, uneven and unasked for. We found Madeline's Pet Care on Yelp while looking for a new groomer for our Old English Sheepdog. Grooming an OES can be daunting for some groomers because they are big dogs with LOTS of hair. Booking the appointment over the phone was easy and I was able to get an appointment rather quickly. Julie did a great job on our boy and that says a lot coming from me because when it comes to my dogs, I can be picky. Now our big shaggy boy looks great - all buffed and puffed like a big teddy bear. On the drive home our dog was looking out the window and the people in the car next to us rolled down their window to tell us how handsome he was! We couldn't agree more. PRE CURSOR First off, this review may seem as a surprise. 4.6+ stars on Yelp. Their storefront says "People love us on Yelp." 30+ years in business. I thought this would be a safe bet, right? Not so fast. Read on. SUMMARY: Stepping into Madeline's Pet Review is entering nightmare where communication is archaic, quotes are as arbitrary as sticking a finger up in the air, and customer service is nothing short of a circus act. STRIKE 1: COMMUNICATION Don't think about easy scheduling with this business. They insist on phone calls to book. After calling, I asked for a simple request: can you please text or email me so I can be reminded on when to come in? Spam callers and voicemails make it hard. They don't have any other options. They want to make it hard. I was met with silence until the day of my appointment where they decided that texting me a reminder was okay now. After I received it, I said I'd head over immediately. When I got there, I proceeded to be shouted at by the owner (?). I was promptly scolded for being "late" - despite the fact that nobody bothered to inquire about my travel time, which happened to span several cities. Is getting yelled at when first visiting a proper way to feel as a first time customer? STRIKE 2: PRICES Do not expect to walk in here feeling good about your wallet. Their prices are nothing short of highway robbery. The owner quoted me $180 for my dog. Let's talk less about the price (high) and more about the approach. I think it's reasonable, if you are spending $150, to ask how people got to this number. I expected some sort of reasoning so I know how this was calculated - perhaps based on size, weight, or breed. Unfortunately, Madeline's response was "Because I said so and we've been in business for [40+ however many] years. I looked on their Yelp page and they said "our prices are reasonable and competitive'. That's completely false. Maybe it's high, that's okay, but how about you try to put some finesse on the customer service? There is a $30 off first time customer - can you mention that? Can you perhaps give a more detailed explanation of the pricing so I feel like a human at your storefront? STRIKE 3: DOG UNFRIENDLY Upon entering the store, I was greeted not by the soothing presence of animal lovers, but yelling from the store owner and barking dogs. Dogs were in a cage and when one poor soul dared to bark, the owner said "Hey! shutup". This is a he-said-she-said, but my initial experience is that this is not a dog-friendly place. To further support, the owner seemed to dismiss my problem: I needed a haircut for my dog. She said to "go somewhere else - you will be unsatisfied here". I'm glad she said this: I would be unsatisfied. I drove my long drive home with my unshaved dog. I called up another groomer who promptly scheduled me, only for $110, full-service. There are many grievances raised here, such as being yelled at that I would not wish upon anyone. I am a business owner myself and was shocked to see such poor handling of new customers. I would not wish this dog place for grooming amongst my worst enemies. Please avoid for high prices, bad service, and a seemingly dog unfriendly place. Here are a list of alternatives that I've had much better experiences with. You can consider these if you don't want my experience with bad service and high prices: - Unity Bulldogs (San Jose) - Pawfection (Milpitas) - A Dog's Tail I am open to the store owner reaching out to make amends, but as of now, I am so turned off. I don't normally write reviews but since this was the worst experience I've had with any business I feel like I owe it to other people to know about this shady business. First, they quoted me over the phone with a price and then changed the price once I came in. Second, like other reviews, I was surprised by the atmosphere when I walked in. Dogs were barking and whining. And it seemed very chaotic the way the owner was yelling over them at another worker. Next, most important to note, is that they gave my cat a sedative without my permission and charged me for services I did not agree to. They said he was really chill the whole time. I know my cat and when I saw him I knew something was not right. They told me I owed $300 for the services. All I wanted was nails cut and a bath to remove some of his loose undercoat. In addition to this, they told me my cat would be ready for pick up at 1:30. I had an appointment at 12:00-1:00 so this was perfect. They called me at 12:00 and said I had to come pick him up immediately because they were closing early for the July 4th holiday. They said if I can't pick him up right then, someone from the shop would take him home and proceeded to ask someone to tell me their address so I could pick him up from her. I didn't feel comfortable with that so I had to cancel my appointment last minute and go pick him up. My advice is to not go to this business, there are plenty of other grooming shops out there to choose instead. read more

We have a double coated dog and two longhaired cats, and Madeline's has done a great job with them. They do a great job with the de-shedding and my pets come home, relaxed, happy, and smelling nice. Their prices are also quite reasonable. read more

The nails were mot too long when I brought my cat in. I checked them the night before to see if they needed extra trimming and they didn't. The bleeding occurred because of your over-trimming. The reason you had to apply septic powder was due to this mistake, not as a standard practice. Words can't describe how disappointed I am with how this was handled. This incident also echos other reviews pointing out that the owner seems to dismiss valid complaints and deflect responsibility by all kind of gaslighting. I strongly suggest everyone to avoid this place. After all, there are other grooming places around. You just have to search on google map. I really should have done more research before taking my cat to this place or any grooming places in general. I have learnt my lesson here but just wish that the cost wasn't the blood of my baby. I will not waste any more time and energy on this. The public will judge, and I hope this helps everyone make the right decision. read more

My cat has been battling my boyfriend and me everytime we try to cut her nails so we gave up and searched for a groomers that was open on Saturdays and could accommodate walk ins. Like out of a dream Madeline's appeared as a top search on Yelp! I called this morning when they opened (Saturday) and asked if they could accept walk ins for nail trims, which they did from 9am to 1pm. We went in around 12pm to get my cat's nails trimmed just as walk ins. Terri, the owner, was free and was able to get my cat's nails clipped in no time at all and even pointed out she can do teeth cleanings (with appointment). Overall very satisfied and thankful to Terri and team for treating my fur baby well and getting her nails cut. We'll be back soon! Most groomers can't seem to get the muzzle area on my dog right, but they were able to cut my dog's hair just the way I wanted it. The short hair around the eyes was from a different groomer that messed up so I'm letting that grow. I'm definitely going to keep coming back here.
