Standard pet store but this one is pretty surprisingly clean. We got some fish and a starter fish tank for the little girl. Overall very helpful staff and not crowded. There are cute critters in the store you can look at. This place is soooo terribly understaffed. The wait for the fish department was well over 30 minutes. Then you have to wait in the one open cashier lane with 10 other people. They clearly need more people working and the ones who do work here need to hustle and move faster. Also the bathroom is locked so for the hour your shopping trip takes you now have to find someone to give you the code. Overall a mess. I'd rather go to PetSmart where they actually have employees working. read more

I LOVE this place! We are regulars here! We visit the animals and I teach my 3-year-old all about the animals here! He loves learning about they and seeing all the same animals each time we visit! He always talks about visiting Petco! When he is older we are going to buy him some fish and maybe even a kitty! MAYBE! There are so many adorable kittys here! VERY nice staff too, Andrew is very helpful and always able to answer my questions when we have them! We also buy dog/cat food here for my pets! I went to petco a few weeks ago with my corgi to get her nails trimmed and maybe her dirty ears cleaned.When I walked into the store first thing I noticed was the condition of the store....it was filthy :(.pee EVERYWHERE.I walked my reluctant little girl up to the salon which had a few girls working at the time.When I walked into the salon (just as dirty as store and outdated looking).All of the girls in the salon were very nice to me until this one comes out the back who I assumed was the one in the back yelling about how "bad" and "dumb" a dog was :(.she was middle aged with slick back dark hair in a bun standing at the counter she asked me in a rude tone if she could help me and in while trying to give my number her cell kept going on and she kept looking at it then looking blankly at computer screen. she finally starts my dog and I can see through the window being awful to my dog while my dog patiently stands there (also saw blood yikes!!!) walked away from my dog looking frantically for somthing to stop bleeding..towel?.I go in and she gives me my dog back and she walks away saying "fuck" under her breath. I went all the way home then realized she only did 2 and a half feet and left the dew claws.Had a very nice associate re cut them :) its such a shame that that one associate totally turned me off from ever stepping foot in petco again FILTHY store.hit or miss employees.awful grooming associate (the rest were very helpful and apologetic).if I could give 0 stars I would read more

I just got my dog Lyric groomed and I am in love with if! I have an American Eskimo and with it being so hot here 92 degrees (Lyric is from Colorado, been to Germany as well) I had to give her a hair cut. I was greeted so well and it was the first time Lyric has gotten a haircut. Checked me in nicely and my records were faxed over as well (had good patience). They did such a good job and afterwards I bought her some treats around the store. I got to say they did a fantastic job! Will definitely return. read more

They sell holistic pet food (Wellness, Avoderm, Natural Balance, etc) and Petsmart doesn't, so I automatically like Petco better. On weekends, they have Wing and a Prayer rescue come by and show off some of the adoptable animals, so that's cool (for the record, Petsmart in RP also does this -- they have Noah's B'Ark rescue come by on weekends). read more

Friendly service. Good products. Was very surprised to see that they sell woma pythons here! Their firebelly toads also looked pretty healthy and good looking. They also sell large containers of flightless fruit flies, which are much larger than the vials sold at petsmart. read more

WARNING FISH PEOPLE: Bought a yellow tang from them, it would not come out from behind my rock and died two weeks after. I have coral, anemones, clowns, and various other fish that are fine, water parameters are great. They would not give me a refund or store credit. Do not buy fish from here. read more

The staff here is rude, obnoxious and could careless if you ever come back. Second bad experience today. I ask if they matched prices and they only match "Petco.com". What's the point? The cashier was snotty. Dog dewormer was 3 times the price of Walmart with obviously a shorter line. First experience was the grooming staff a month ago. Gave me the wrong dog back and insisted it was mine. Apparently someone switched the name tags. Might be the petco management or corporation why the staff are unhappy. My favorite pet store because that always have the dog food I need in stock. Unfortunately had a bad experience a couple weeks ago when I was leaving the cashier asked if my dog wanted a cookie. I assumed she handed me a dog treat with I gave to my dog. Once we got in the car after closer inspection and after my dog had eaten some of it I noticed it was an actual Oreo cookie. Stunned I took a bite and to my shock it was an Oreo cookie. I don't know what the cashier was thinking giving that to my dog kind of irritating. Either way I'll continue to shop here because they have the best selection and prices. read more

The corporate Petco organization is a major supporter of animal rescue and shelter groups, and this particular outlet in Santa Rosa rocks. Yeh, I know . . . they sell pet supplies so it's good business to be that way - but theres more to it than that for them I sense. Our rescue group, www.avanimalrescue.org has been this Petcos primary adoption agency partner for almost 10 years now. Their employess, no matter when during that 10 years, and no matter who the employee, has treated all of us from AVAnimal Rescue kindly, generously and helpfully. We have many problems in our current reality, and pet overpopulation is certainly one of them. Many cities, and every county in every state has 1 or more Animal Control facilities - the cost of facilities, staff, animal medical and caring/upkeep costs are staggering if you think about it. That, along with public health and safety issues, gives great importance to making efforts to get a handle on pet overpopulation. Thank you Petco, and for us, this particular branch, for your contribution in aiding this campaign. We look forward to our 20th anniversary working with you. read more

Brought my dog here for a flea bath and haircut. Made an appointment for 3 o'clock, after two hours of him being there i hadn't heard anything so i called to see if the had any idea when he would be done. The rude woman on the phone informed me that my dog had been bathed but was sitting in a kennel waiting for his hair to be cut. She continued to tell me they had two drop ins that they were going to do before him. After 7 o'clock and still no update i called back. An even more rude woman told me they were still waiting to finish the other dogs. Finally at 7:30 i called again and AT LAST they were about to finish with his hair cut. The price was what we had agreed upon so i have no problem with that. BUT, the haircut that my dog got looked as if a blind person had taken a weed-whacker to him for five minutes. There is no possible way Petco will ever get my business again and i suggest everyone else look for other options when it comes to getting their pet groomed. read more

Re: GROOMING. I made an appointment to have my sisters dog groomed. The appointment took over 3 hours for a teeny, tiny little lap dog!!! They should have told me in advance, when I called. When I got there the gal said there were 2 dogs ahead of mine. Obviously they overbooked their schedule. I had to waste my entire afternoon staying in the area. My main problem with Petco is their prices, so high! Granted if you buy things on sale you are getting a decent price but for normally priced items OMG! Using the grooming service here was the worst experience we have ever had. Drop off dog, hour later after returning to work they call and say dog bit the groomer. Leave work to go find out what is going on only to find out that allegedly dog bit groomer while we were there the first time...someone needs to explain why we a)didn't notice our dog bite the groomer, and b) why they didn't tell us then instead of wasting our work day and loosing us money. I called to have our Pommie washed and brushed out. The groomer gave me a time to show up and when I walked into the Groom shop I was met with a refusal to perform any service for our dog had expired rabies coverage. Now gentle Yelpers, I do agree they must ensure all dogs are up to date with the rabies vaccination but gave them 3 stars because they failed to alert us our dog need his update when first we booked his appointment. this kind of incompetence is far too common in modern society and that is also why Yelp is so awesome: it gives a voice where folks can vent on a store that hires dweebs to deal with the public. read more

Extremely irritated that I went to drop my dog off for her grooming appointment a little bit early and they straight up refused to take her in. Groomer says she was going to lunch and my dog would just be sitting there. I said that was ok since it wouldn't be that long and I couldn't make the later time. But she wouldn't budge. PetCo needs to be more understanding about drop off times for grooming. I'm so irritated by the lack of customer service that I don't feel comfortable taking my dog back there. I bought a hamster here so i come in to stock up on supplies and the most of the employees i've run into so far are huffy and not interested in talking to customers, the rudest is the girl is the fish area she's a skinny brunette- if anything she will avoid you if she see's customers and is irritated if you ask a question. Standing in the store right now staring at a dead baby bearded dragon laying in the cage. I was going to take a photo of it, but the lady working the register said I'm not allowed to take photos of the animals. I'm pretty sure I've sent photos of Ball Python morphs to my boyfriend before with no issues, so maybe she just doesn't want me taking photos of the dead animals? I get that animals die (I've been working in the pet industry all my life) but you really shouldn't leave them out where people can see them. read more

I recently got my two standard poodles groomed at Petco like I have for years. One of them was left patchy with long hair and his ears undone ( not like them at all!!) I called just to let them know what had happened and Kaitlin, the manager, was awesome!!!!! She took care of the situation in a very professional manner and was very sweet about it. I understand groomers have a difficult job, and sometimes not everything can be done to perfection. It's so nice to know there are still business' out there that take care of their customers. The grooming department has some wonderful people here but the rest of the offerings are pretty bland and they don't have much going for them here for my pet needs. But definitely with a stop for their groomers. The ones here know what they are doing. read more

We are very happy with the Puppy Training classes at our local Santa Rosa store. Kevin & Kayla are well trained in working with puppies and adult dogs and really love what they do. We have had different classes with both trainers and the training is consistent and caring. We started with a 4 month old black lab who was overly excited about everything. (she will be about a 80 pound dog) and Kevin & Kayla both worked with her. Our lab (Billie) is always eager to come to the store and love her trainers and so do we. We now have a 7 month old lab that we take to dog parks, hiking and feel safe taking her to outdoor events where dogs are welcome on leash. We are about to finish Puppy 2 class and plan on continuing with her training. We as humans have also learned patience, consistence and safety. We have not had a puppy for 35years and Puppy Training is a great success!!! read more

I was shopping around for fish and Fishtank stuff. This place was the worst by far. I couldn't find anyone who seemed confident enough to tell us right from wrong. They said that fish are cheap so if they die it shouldnt be a big deal. Pet smart or Caeser's would be the places to go. read more

I went there to buy crickets and noticed one of the snakes was awake. I asked an employee if I could hold it and she said that they no longer allow ANY (dogs, cats, rodents, reptiles) to be held anymore. This was due to prevent "lawsuit issues" and even the employees could not hold them. I asked her how the animals were socialized and she simply put, "if it's too aggressive, just bring it back and we will give you another one." Apparently the animals are no better than defective merchandise here. I feel sorry for the animals that have to suffer due to the cold-hearted policies of this company. read more
