Took my pup here after he injured his paw. The vet was very knowledgeable and thoroughly examined him to see what the issue could be. He prescribed him some medication that eventually helped him feel better. This store absolutely reeked of urine and feces on a hot summer day last time I was in, and that's not a healthy environment for either pets or humans. I had purchased two bags of puppy food last month that I ended up not using. I called into this store because it was the closest location to see if I could exchange the two bags for a different bag of food. Roy the manager picked up. I told him the situation and that I didn't have a receipt. He explained to me that they would just discard the returned food but that I could still do it. I specifically told Roy that I didn't have a receipt as it was purchased so long ago. He said I could still do it When I came in and showed him the product I wanted to exchange it with, he then got very rude and threw his hands up. He said "you never told me you didn't have a receipt" when I know for a fact I told him. Why would I call to check when I have a receipt?! Roy was very rude and the exchange process was not available to help a long-standing customer. I've gone to Petco for over 10 years for a variety of reasons. With this experience, I plan no discontinue my loyalty to the chain. I'll be telling my family and friends that the experience and customer service is no longer there. This Petco store is exceptional in every way! The staff is courteous and knowledgeable about the store's services and merchandise, and are very genuine in this love and commitment to pets. It is well-stocked, tidy and clean. I love that there are now a self service bath plus a vet clinic for vaccinations and basic preventative care. The grooming parlor is one of my favorites. Rocky always comes out clean, brushed, nails trimmed with him having no stress about having to spend a couple of hours there. read more

Ehhh.... The store is clean, I'm not a fan of the layout when a customer first walks in, they changed that a few years ago, and I've just never really liked walking as a result. Not as inviting. I went to this location this past Friday to ask about information about dog nail trimming. I was told just to bring him in as a walk in anytime no appointment necessary. I came in today and a lady was on the phone, made eye contact with me hung up and walked back in the grooming center. She obviously tried to make her self busy by sweeping up hair and started folding towels. After 5 min she came out to ask if she could help me. I told her I wanted to get my dogs nails trimmed. She said I needed my dogs vaccine records , which I didn't have. I understand now that it is a requirement and I get it. But why wasn't I told about this when I first inquired about it Friday. read more

This was a good alternative for us as furry parents because our little one hates grooming places. However, the last two times we have used the self grooming wash have been very disappointing. The tubs were dirty, the water is not warm any more, the vacums/dryers doesn't work. Very disappointed because when Petco started with this service it was great. This is a very great location thrive is a very good they took care of my puppy Scarlett then came back for some puppy food for my husky and needed some questions about dog food. Thought I would just get the finger point like most places but a guy named Joey took him time for a good 30 minutes and helped me find top 3 dog foods for her and was very helpful. Jesse was amazing with my dog!!!! I have small nervous chihuahua and she was so patient with her. I get nervous leaving her to be groomed because she can really doesn't like getting her nails cut and I worry the groomers may treat her poorly because it's happened before. To everyone saying the smell is due to "irregular cleaning" and lack of caring for the animals, that is a complete lie. The employees do a very good job of maintaining the animal habitats weekly, and bi-weekly in some cases. There IS a terrible odor which is due to the rat infestation the corporate office refused to acknowledge as a problem for months on end. They are finally dealing with the issue. I have, or have had, an animal from every section in their store, so I go to this location frequently. The employees are always very helpful with any questions or finding products for me, and they do the best they can with what they have as far as housing animals is concerned. If you want to direct your distaste at someone, you should look to corporate. read more

This place is a pretty mixed bag. For dog and cat food, I go to Tomlinson's, so the only time I go here is for fish and reptile help. The selection in this area is just not that great and there are few people who know anything about fish or reptiles or what they need. The fish section is blah and the goldfish just don't look all that healthy or well-cared for. I am not crazy about the way their animals are kept and cannot bear to look at the cramped ferrets who look unhappy. After discovering the Petsmart around the corner, I just don't come here for anything but necessities when I need to. read more

I took my Cavalier King Charles for grooming. Christina worked on her, and did a great job! This was her spring haircut after a long cold winter where I didn't have her hair cut. These dogs grow a lot of hair, complete with undercoat, and it is a real challenge to cut it down in one appointment! Also, you can see your pet while they work on him or her. read more

This review is for the grooming salon. I really try my hardest to keep my money in the local economy. The mister and I have tried a few area grooming locales and even our vet. Sadly the job has always been mediocre and costly. The Grooming Salon at Petco always does a bang-up job. Our dog comes home happy and smelling delicious. They are always able to see us within the day and typically we get our dog back within hours. I don't know what the latest shampoo/conditioner is this month but Sue came home smelling like apples and pumpkin pie. I was close to licking her face for a change. read more

Was at this store and saw two racks of dog clothes and jackets with a big sign that starts all the dog jackets were 75% off. So i grabbed two for my canine kids to match and was very excited. When I got to the register they rang up full price. I told the cashier I had got them off the 7t% off rack next to the entrance. She walked over and literally had to pull the racks apart to find the ones I got. Then came back and rudely started they were on the rack behind the Clarence items and were not on sale. Keep in mind the rest of the pet apparel was no where near these two racks. I asked if they honored the price as it was clearly misleading the way the sign was on top of both racks and she rudely said no. I then asked if there was a manager available. The cashier at the register next to her perked up and said "I'm the manager". I said ashe had been listening to the exchange, "And you don't have a problem with the sign on the racks being clearly misleading and not honoring the price on the sign either?" He very rudely and completly dismissively said "No we do not when the signs are clearly placed and the clearance items are clearly marked with orange dots. The sign wasn't clearly marked and there were other items on the same "full price" rack with orange stickers on them. So first off, both the cashiers were extremely rude and unfriendly with their retorts. Second, I am the Cash Lane and Hiring Manager for one of, if not the largest, retailer in the world and would never have allowed my cashiers to speak to a customer like I was spoken to. Third, for someone who didn't work for PetCo there is absolutely no reason u would not assume two racks pushed so closely together that you can't tell they aren't one would not have the sign apply to all the items. And forth, a retailer like PetCo isn't going to go out of business by politely stating..."I'm so sorry sir. We should have done a better job of distinguishing the clearance jackets from the full price jackets that should be in another area of the store or in our back room. But because we value you as one of our customers we'll go ahead and honor the sale sign this time. In the future please look for there to be an orange dot on the item's tag as well. We really apologize for the confusion. Honoring the price and loosing a few bucks but not a long time customer isn't going to put PetCo out of business. I wish I had taken a picture to show how much the two racks were pushed together to blend into one. And the sale sign that said nothing about orange dots. But i was so curious with their behavior i just wanted to leave. Their behavior and attitudes were completly unacceptable and out of line. I stopped here because I was in the neighborhood for other reasons and needed to use my reward dollars before they expired. I walked in and the smell literally burned my nostrils. It reeked of urine. I managed to grab one of the items on my list but forgot the rest because the smell was unbearable. I feel terrible for the animal housed there and the employees that must work in that environment. Although, I'm sure they are responsible for the smell due to lack of regular cleaning and changing bedding in cages. HORRIBLE! Just horrible and so, so sad. read more

Just moved back to Austin and took one of my girls (not the human kind) to get groomed and cleaned up. The young lady that greeted us was fun, friendly, and LOVED my girl. They did a great job, my girl looks good. My only concern, and it's important, is that it does have an unpleasant odor. I know what dogs "do" and that it might be tough to clean up but it sure would make a difference. The odor was a "dog gone bad" odor. read more

I am disgusted at the awful service of the grooming department of this Petco. I was quoted a price of $65 for a groom at the time I made the appt, as well as being told to allow 3-4 hours for a full groom. When I went in for the appt, before my dog was even looked over, I was asked to sign a form saying the total would be $85 and Karen, in the grooming department, refused to honor the quote her staff had given me over the phone. She said it was against policy for them to give quotes over the phone, so I should disregard what I had been told and that it was MY fault for inquiring about the price upfront. They had also failed to inform me at the time I made the appt that they had raised their grooming prices. I planned my appointments for my day around the 3-4 hour time window, only for 4 and a half hours to pass and not to have heard from them. Upon calling, I was told that they had a plumbing issue AND because I had had inquired about the price, it caused them to be delayed by 90 minutes, though they had never made an effort to notify me of this. The total time it took them was over FIVE hours, and they were rude at every call and interaction. Absolutely not worth the time or money to go here. Petsmart will tell you their prices upfront on their website and has always had prompt service. (ETA: Justin, the manager, was excellent in handling the pricing issue and honoring the price the first employee had quoted me. Unfortunately, the grooming staff remained less than apologetic). read more

They are also great about not giving him treats unless they ask me first (he has food allergies, so this is important to me). Had a house call from a window company, could not get Mac when they called and asked for a little bit more of time in picking him up in Sunset, Valley, Texas. They said sure, no problem! It's PETCO, a typical big box pet food retailer, what can you say about this place that's going to be useful. As far as pricing and selection, it's consistent with all the other PETCO's I've visted across the country. Nothing spectacular. Service is pretty much nonexistent. I have been here several times, rarely am I greeted by some in the aisles but more importantly the cashiers here lack any customer service skills. Rarely is there someone waiting at the checkout stand. If there is someone there, they're too busy chatting with their coworkers or eating their lunch to pay any attention to you. This is my local Petco and I've been coming here for 6 years and this is my first time experiencing a bad visit. Michael, the " pet trainer " went out of his way to follow me and my husband around the store. Then he rudely informs my husband (who is covered in tattoos and to a judgmental man like Michael, it may give him urgency to want to find anything to accuse my husband of) that we will be kicked out of the store for "smoking his vape pen" Which he was not. He was twirling it in his hands out of a natural habit. When I addressed this with him in front of his manager, he decided that he was going to lie and say that he was smoking it and he could smell it . But when I told him to roll the tapes back if he was so right, he didn't want to. No manager did nothing but only to have Michael taunt us on our way out. What a rude boy. My point is, don't go out of your way to be mean to someone because they look different. I bet if he was a white man with no tattoos he would've left him alone or approached him appropriately. NOT like he is some criminal. read more

I'm updating my previous review because they removed Ken from leading puppy playtime.... and it is no longer an enjoyable experience with the new employee... we used come every Saturday and Sunday, go to puppy playtime and then buy dog food for the week... we would always make sure to get there early because puppy playtime would fill up fast several times there were 7-10 puppies! Now there aren't even close to that many and the whole "puppy playtime" is completely unenjoyable! Ken was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, after getting our second puppy and heading to petco we were so let down to see the changes that were made and that Ken was no longer leading the playtime.... such a bummer read more

I never ever yelp review, but the staff was so helpful. I've have horrible experiences, downright stressful at Petsmart in Southpark Meadows. I've also found some small pet boutiques just a little pushy, insisting I need expensive merchandise. So this cat (2) and dog (4 mos. - I'm a new puppy mum) walks in close to closing time with my wild puppy. A young woman (I wish I got her name, but noticed she had a tat on her finger) was so helpful, enthusiastic and kind, even at her shift end. She knew I was budget conscience and helped us pick out items in basically EVERY DEPARTMENT and ones that were on sale/had coupons but were of upmost quality and suited for my particular dog's needs. She was not only knowledgable, but a passionate pet mom with so much insight. Basically the staff we worked with on the floor were all passionate, personable and offered great assistance to a frazzled new puppy mum. Ludo was given a cookie when trying on harnesses, I was given training tips along the way and the trainer on staff was so friendly that I think (after endless research and looking into expensive private trainers) we might be venturing to their school. They also have free puppy play on weekends, which the staff informed us about, as well as supplied training information. They told us more about training upon request, they were not pushy us or doing the "woah, we can see YOU NEED OUR HELP" tactic. I will gladly make the trip from Eastside to patron this "more than a store." The team is more than a retail staff, they are animal lovers.
