We have 3 dogs, small (3 yrs), medium (9 yrs) & large (2yrs). The 2yr old has digestive issues. Came in to search for a new food with a good probiotic. It needs to be a food they can all eat, because, have you ever tried feeding your dogs different things? They are just as bad as kids! They eat out of each others bowls. I had done some research before coming in, and was going to try a few different brands. Fortunately, we chanced upon Katie, who is also one of the trainers there. She was very knowledgeable about the foods and had experience with dogs with food allergies & digestion issues. She recommended a food for us to try. Fingers crossed it works! The cat groomer did such a wonderful job and recommended some helpful tools that I can purchase to keep up with my super long haired cats coat! I went in looking for female guppies. The associate asked how big was the tank and how many current fish. I said it was a 40g and about 20 fishes but they're mostly fry. I looked around and saw a few I wanted and ask her to grab them. She asked again about my current situation. I told her it's fine, it's a mutt guppy tank. At this time she said Petco has a 1in per gallon policy and she can't sell me the guppies. WTH! I thought she was kidding but after explaining I've been keeping fishes for 20yrs and that her feeder goldfishes don't follow her policy either. She stood her ground and forced a customer to drive down to Petsmart to grab a few guppies. I'm all for educating new fish keepers but this was ridiculous customer service. We've been a customer for 6 years but the last two times we've sent our dog for a grooming with the "spa package" he still had dandruff all over him and he smelled like he wasn't bathed at all. There is literally no way for this to happen if he was washed like promised. When we got home we washed him again and all the dandruff was gone. Also when we picked up our dog they told us to pay before even showing us our dog. How do we know how much to tip them if we don't even know how satisfied we are with their service. I recently visited here for some doggie treats and went to browse their selection of tropical fish and plants. I was impressed by the friendliness of the person working in the aquatics center and the cleanliness of the fish tanks. This is by far the best Petco I have visited in Oregon. There is ample parking as it is located in a small strip mall. The front of the store was clean and well maintained. The inside of the store was also well organized and staffed accordingly. All of the fish tanks had well fed and healthy looking fish and plants. You could tell that this store takes pride in caring for their animals. The person in aquatics was knowledgeable with tropical fish and we immediately struck up a friendly conversation about the hobby. I bought a couple of fish and some plants and felt very good about my purchase. The fish I got and plants were healthy looking and I knew that they had been properly cared for. There was also a good selection of doggie treats and the area was well kept. This is easily the best PetCo that I have visited in the Portland/ Oregon area. The store is well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. The animals are properly cared for and thriving. I will definitely be making the trip out here to visit this specific store again. read more

Well this is tricky because most of the people there are very nice and professional and seem sincere. However, I had a weird experience with an employee when I went to buy a mouse. This was a companion pet purchase and the first thing I was told was that I was unusual for wanting to buy a mouse as a pet as I was told they were mostly used for snake food. I was told they were very poorly bred, mass-produced, and would likely bite the heck out of me. I asked for more info about the biting and she said she was bitten on a regular basis. I was told they were so dirty that the cages there had to be cleaned multiple times a day (really??). Nothing positive was spoken about them at all. I was getting very nervous but trusted my instincts that I was doing the right thing. I picked a very sweet-looking, little female mouse. We took her home and she has been absolutely the sweetest, most social pet and has become my kiddo's best friend. No biting whatsoever. Maybe the ones at the store sensed that she doesn't like them and so that's why they're biting her? I was also told that she had one or two mice at home (as snake food) and they dirtied up their cage so badly that she was constantly having to clean it. Meanwhile, we have had two mice in a 10 gallon tank and it stays clean for days at a time. The information I was given was totally wrong and unnecessarily negative. I don't think this person liked the mice, so perhaps they shouldn't be working in that section. All I can say is, don't always trust the info you are given in the store! Clearly they don't always know what they are talking about. Or perhaps the animals just sense that they are not liked and reacting? They apparently are very intelligent little animals and I think they deserve more respect. read more

I want to give Tualatin Petco training ZERO stars. I paid for and took my 9 week old puppy to a 45 min class that lasted 20 mins. The "trainer" didn't know what to do since my dog already knew his name and came when called. She kept tossing treats on the floor in front of his nose to reward him for laying down calmly; actually, I believe he was just bored. After looking at her watch several times telling me how much time we had remaining, she asked me several times what I wanted her to do. Uh, maybe teach him to walk on the leash or lay down or stay? She did tell me there were some good potty training videos on YouTube. read more

As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted. Within two minutes of looking around Rachel asked if I needed assistance and was more than happy to price check something for me. She even asked before greeting my pup! I'm so glad to see that employees are being taught to ask before petting! After looking around in the dog food section I was approached by Ian who was also just as happy to help as Raychel. Ian really knows what he's talking about. He was able to show me the best raw food choice for my Meela. I was really worried about switching from blue buffalo basics but Ian showed me ingredients/facts and proved to me that raw is so much healthier. Rachel rung up my items and offered a mix in food to help my dog adjust to raw incase she had trouble adjusting texture wise. I was pleased that she wanted to help and didn't just try to push a sale that wouldn't benefit my dog. After arriving home I realized I had another question and called the store. Ian was more than happy to answer my questions over the phone. I'm glad that the employees really do care about helping people and their animals not just going to work for the paycheck. read more

This is the closest pet store to us and we go here for most of our needs for our two cats and two dogs. We took our pups to their free weekend puppy playtime when they were little to start socializing and enrolled them in beginner dog training. It provided us with the basics and helped us build a bond with our new pups. Staff is always very friendly and helpful. They helped us pick out the right harness for our puppy according to our issues (pulling and breaking loose) and encouraged us to try them on for fit before buying. We were offered free samples (of their brand) to take home to try when we decided to try out wet pouch food for our cats and they let us exchange our cat food without issue when we discovered there were certain flavors they would not eat. They also helped us find and order the cat water filter we needed online when they didn't have it in store. Our leashes dogs are always welcomed inside and love sniffing around. We have become loyal Petco customers and feel treated as such. read more

They have answered my questions, anywhere from dog nutrition questions for my sensitive cattle dog to fish and reptile questions! After 15 minutes of waiting to get a few tropical fish, and watching a clerk talk on a cell phone while working on stocking a shelf, I walked up to her a few isles over. I had to interrupt her while on her cell phone, and asked if I could get some help with fish. She answered "what do you need". HUH? I NEED FISH! Rudely, she started questioning me (before we even walked back to the tanks as if she was too busy for me) about the size of my tank and other questions. I asked her what difference all this makes. She said they have to make sure the fish are going to a good home. WHAT? I've been buying tropical fish for years. Never have I ever heard of anyone rudely questioning a customer, let alone about the care of a damn fish! Tongue and cheek, I said I want to use them for feeders and asked what difference it makes. She said she can't sell me anything other than goldfish for that purpose. WHAT? So, she's concerned about the care of goldfish, but not for a guppies and angelfish? Can you spell R.I.D.I.C.U.L.O.U.S.? I had had enough of this nonsense. I walked out - drove to the nearest privately owned pet shop and purchased about $150 worth of fish and supplies. What a $%#^^&* idiot! (by the way, she said she was a manager). If true, and what she told me and how she told me is Petco policy, Petco is in serious trouble! read more

This is easily one of the worst Petco locations I've ever visited. My main gripe is the performance of the staff. On several occasions when I've approached the registers to pay for my goods, the checker is MIA and I end up waiting several minutes just for someone to ring me up. I've actually had store associates pass me by, make eye contact, but never acknowledge that I was waiting. If you're busy helping another customer that's completely understandable, but a simple, "I'll be with you in just a minute," goes a long way. I've also received attitude when I've asked the employees simple questions and almost never get a "thank you" when the transaction is complete. For these reasons, I travel an extra 5-10 minutes to the next closest location. My husband, too, has had similar experiences at this location. read more

I wouldn't recommend buying fish here. The lady who manages the fish department is a little too attached to the fish. One of my son's guppies died, so I went to buy a replacement. When I asked to buy one, she said, "Are you sure your son can handle fish? Maybe you should just keep the fish you have and come back later." She's really sensitive about her fish. read more

I arrive on time and find out that my groomer quit and I no long have an appointment. I made this appointment 6 weeks ago and make a new appointment everytime we go. I can not believe that no one else took over the scheduled times. I can not believe that Pet Co did not contact me to explain the situation and give me the choice. I have shopped here many many times, and never had such a clueless employee helping me. I found a great piece of mopani wood for my bioactive crested gecko tank. It was thin and had the coloring I was looking for. I found in the 12.99 spot with similar sized pieces, thinking it was a reasonable price. Maybe more than I would want to pay, but reasonable. I took it up to the register and quickly realized it didn't have a tag. I offered to go grab a similar piece that I looked at, but she decided for me to show her, at this point I was still fine and dandy. I showed her where I found it and the similar piece I was referring to. Instead she insists that the 12.99 price is WAY too low for the piece I chose. And she went on saying how it wasn't even mopani wood. I have several other pieces of wood at home already, I know what mopani is... but she insisted it was the more expensive kind, grapevine. But she then refers to the 19.99 tag saying that's it. I said no, the tag says "jungle gym" it's not one of those. The jungle gym is bigger and has multiple branches crossing over one another. The one I chose was straight. But before I could try to reason with her, she said "whelp that's the price", and walked away. I decided not to buy the piece because I can get it for way cheaper, but the employee needs to understand what products are in the store. I was overall disappointed, every other employee I have worked with has been great, but she really put a damper on it for me. This place is AWFUL!! We recently lost our dog while she was boarded in Wilsonville (Stafford and Gage). She escaped on 7/2 while on a walk. We were 300 miles away. We came into Petco in hopes that we could put a "Lost Dog" flyer up. What we got was a snotty employee who told us that we couldn't put up the flyer!! Then gave us a lecture on Home Again microchip service!!! This is BS!!! We informed this employee that our missing dog IS microchip by AVID. What we wanted was to place our flyer so customers could possibly see our dog. We went to PetSmart; they were FAR FAR more helpful. We went to both the location in Tualatin to check to pet hotel, and the one in Wilsonville. They showed genuine concern for both us and our lost dog. We stopped by Costco and Target, they were both receptive to having our flyer, even in their breakroom. For being a pet shop this unacceptable!!!! People come here to get goods for their pet, and if they can help another pet owner this is great. WE WILL NOT BE GOING TO PETCO AGAIN!!!!!!! In fact we are telling others NOT to go there as well. I came in the other day with my 5 month old puppy to get her boots and a backpack. I walked in, saw an employee ringing another customer up at the register, while a couple other employees just stood around, but I did not get a greeting (not a big deal, maybe they are busy doing something else). I walked around for a few minutes trying to find what I was looking for and finally got to the aisle where the boots are. I struggled for about 10 minutes trying to get a boot on my puppy, while 3 employees walked right past me, not asking if I needed help. At this point, I was curious whether anyone could even see me or not so I decided to walk around the store for another 10 minutes. I walked by a couple of employees who were facing some products and still nothing! I was in this store for almost 30 minutes and not one employee talked to me or even acknowledged me or my puppy's existence. read more

I have been getting my long hair Chihuahua groomed here for about two years, and have been mostly pleased with the grooming service. My dog is always greeted warmly and sometimes is allowed to "hang out" outside of the cages while awaiting pick-up (when this happened, it was the groomer and him). He looks great, generally ( he was too short a couple of times). However, they have clearly had very high turnover (I can only speculate as to why) and the last three times it has been someone new. Ok, I get it, this is a chain store, but the last straw was this week when I called to make an appt. and was told grooming was't open that day because they only had one person, and she had called in sick. It has gotten harder and harder to get an appt., so to that end, Petco has lost my business to Groomingdales. read more

Petco offers puppy socialization classes on Saturday and Sundays and it was the worst experience ever. I took my 5 month old puppy, who has done other socialization classes in other stores (in sherwood) and has enjoyed every moment of them because the man running it understood enough animal behavior to run the class not like a fight club, unlike how Theresa ran it in Tualatin. The way she handled the situation was not only very unprofessional but also extremely dangerous and traumatic for my dog. When my puppy was starting to get scared, and it was clearly visible, she refused to pull another dog off of my puppy or allow any of the owners inside to help. Then she made it nearly impossible for anyone to get in the pin claiming that no one else was allowed in (while the other store would allow the owners in to help w their dog). She proceeded to ask to lift a 50 pound scared puppy up and over a tall gate, now anyone who understands animal behavior would understand why that might be a bad idea. I had to reach in the pin, past her to get my scared puppy out otherwise she wouldnt have gotten my cornered and scared puppy out. I don't understand how one store's program ( in sherwood) is run so well while another just 10 minutes away is run like a dog fight club. I well I'll never bring any of my dogs back due to lack of professionalism and blatant lack of care of my dogs safety. read more
