I have become a regular at Petco recently which includes Dog Grooming and Dog Training. I have two dogs, one that is a year old rescue from Mexico and the other is a 4 year old Pug. I had to get the pup into training. It wasn't an easy process to schedule this because they didn't show any classes online. I had to call and the trainer called me back to schedule. We had to schedule a new class but her schedule was very small. There are no evening or weekend classes so I need to take time out of my work day to bring my girl in. But, with that being said, I have been VERY happy with our trainer, Noemi. My girl has learned so much in just a few weeks. I literally have fallen in love with her now that we're speaking the same language. Woof! I have now taken both kids in for grooming. Diane is now our groomer and I'm happy that I don't have to try to calm a puppy when I'm trying to trim her nails. She's very kind and I could tell that she cares about our furry family members. read more

After 14 years as a loyal grooming customer at Petco Oro Valley, I can say the only reason anyone returned was because of their exceptional head groomer. She ran that salon with consistency, kindness, and professionalism -- everything corporate management is not. Her termination reflects Petco's poor leadership and declining standards, not her performance. It's shameful to see corporate bullies try to hold back talented people simply because loyal clients choose to follow great service elsewhere. The community sees it -- and we're walking away right along with her. read more

Aug 11 I had my chow chow groomed at Petco in our valley. I wrote a previous review, manager wrote he could not find it in his records. If he would contact me I could have given him my receipt. Anyways my chow was shaved( her main) and entire body except the tail? To me it looked like a poodle cut? Six hrs, and lady said she had experience cutting chow chows. So it's only 8 AM in the morning and I go in to bring my dog I explained to Riley yes her name was Riley so make sure you avoid it if you go in there. Last time I got my dog done it was half Ass done. She Proceeded to scold me and pointed her finger and said, let me stop you there we do not us that language here. Seriously? I was explaining what I wanted very specifically and used the word half ass? I left for someone to be this angry at 8am will not touch my dog!!!! read more

I had a grooming appointment for my dog here today but the employee, Sarah, refused to groom my dog. She said she needed shot records. I showed her the shots my dog had received in recent months. He is all caught up. She said she only wants to see proof is rabies shots. He is current but his vet has those records. She refused to call his vet and said she didn't have time because she was getting off work at 3. I said I would have had them too if I had known before hand. She said I should have gotten a text saying I needed proof of rabies shot. But the text I received said nothing about rabies shot. Very disappointed. They should tell you what you need before hand. I feel like she just wanted to go home early. Never coming back here again. read more

Trainer does not train or test for the Canine Good Citizen test according to the standardized AKC test format. I took the class, but opted to test at a different training center when I saw how the PetCo trainer reinvented the test standards. I sought a refund for the test fee only, and after a store visit and FOUR calls to customer service, no one will help me. they just pass me from person to person. Do NOT go to this location if you want a CGC class and test that is conducted according to the AKC standard. read more

Lisa did a fantastic job making my Fox Terrier and Sausage Dog Mix look adorable! I walked in the store and she was able to pencil the two boys into the schedule same day. Asked what Kind of service they needed and she delievered. We want to come back again. :) read more

Absolutely heart broken On 4/8/22 a friend asked me to go check on a poor Chameleon and to take it home and try to nurse it back to health. I wish I would have listened. I went in on 4/16/22 8 days later and the poor thing was STILL in the enclosure with another Chameleon. The poor babies eyes were so sunken in and you could see every little breath was labored. I honestly do not know how the poor thing was still alive. I told an associate who told me he had seen the little baby and would tell his manager! He ALREADY saw it and had done NOTHING about it!? Why as a customer am I the one who should be walking in and doing health checks on animals in THEIR care. When the manager was told, her response was "he was active earlier" I never said the baby wasn't active and ACTIVE does NOT equal healthy! Both Chameleons in the enclosure were in poor health, the humidity was NOT where is should be by more then half, the water dripped was not working at all there was no water in the enclosure, and this was brought to the managers attention on 4/16. The manager did go and remove the worse looking chameleon from the enclosure thankfully. I went back today 4/17 on EASTER to check that the babies were taken care of and the dripper is still not working, there is still no water in the enclosure and I told the staff the night before of this issue. I asked about the welfare of the one that was taken back, and was informed he had passed away! The other chameleon is still in the enclosure. Why is this acceptable? This is a disgusting way to treat animals that are meant as pets. Even if the animals were sick when they showed up from the breeder, they should be kept in quarantine long enough to know if they were sick before being put out for the public! Customers also should never have to tell employees the animals are sick. It's their responsibility to take care of these animals until they find a home. So beyond heart broken. read more

Very happy with this Petco location. The employees are all friendly and Jaime in grooming does an amazing job on our little ShihTzu! They appear to have good success with their grooming department as well as it's usually pretty busy. I've also noticed, unlike their competitor (Petsmart) down the road (Petsmart) who shall remain unnamed (Petsmart) that they really care for the animals here and they don't seem to sit in the kennels for hours and hours waiting. Only advice would be to incorporate a way to tip the groomers when paying for the service. I would think that'd be an excellent way to ensure your groomers are getting tipped if it's included in either the transaction itself or on the receipt as a write-in!! read more

Taylor is the best. She listens to my grooming concerns. Both of my dogs are 11 years old. One has bumps & scabs all over her body. Taylor is the only groomer I have ever used for Gigi (my poodle) who has not cut them & there for not created itchy scabs after her grooming. Tiffany, my other poodle, has glaucoma & needs moisturizing drops before the dryer is used so her good eye stays good. Taylor always takes the drops without any complaining & uses them before drying Tiffany. My babies always come out wagging their tails, looking beautiful & feeling like a million bucks!! I would give a 0 rating if I could. My family and I bought a juvenile bearded dragon a year and a half ago. We were so excited to have our first low maintenance pet that would bring more joy and love to our home. I have never been a reptile person, so I was taking a chance by going this route. Either way, we grew to love him and he seemed to be very healthy; eating often, growing quickly, and active. A year and a half later, he stopped eating. Long story short, he was diagnosed with atadenovirus. This is very common in lizards but mainly pass from mom to juvenile lizard. So, he had this virus when I bought him, but was asymptomatic until he got older. I am outraged that pet stores sell sick animals to families who grow to love these pets. I feel cheated to have grown to love this little guy, and to see him deteriorate daily. We had to put him down so he would not be in pain any longer. I will never buy any animal from a pet store, will openly share my horrid experience and suggest no one goes that route again. You all should be ashamed of yourselves! Lastly, when I would purchase food for my lizard, this store rarely had enough crickets or worms. There was always an excuse to why but I consider that to be poor management. It is simple. read more

The groomer, Patricia was not happy that my dog bited her and listed him under 'No Service Referral'. I asked her what she did. She said she tried to put him into a kernel. I and my family were shocked to hear this. We had him for 8 years and he never bited anyone. She must mishandled him; similar as her rude voice tone. Other peple can hear her loud, as she was not aware that she humiliated me. He was cold, wet and shaky when I touched him. She said she did not blow dry his hair after bath due to bite incident. I was thinking that she lets my dog dry cold in this morning February winter month. I looked at her hand. The 2 bite marks are superficial pressure marks; no open skins. She did not trim his face and tail hair evenly. Some hair patches are longer than others. I would not recommend this groomer for your pets. Please do not groom your pet under her service! read more

I come here to get fish for my pond- nothing else since I feel they are pretty expensive and don't offer the best selection of products (as opposed to online, for example). The fish guys are awesome- they will literally sit there for 30 minutes letting me demand which tiny little $0.29 fish I want from the tank of 4,586 other fish. Those little gold fish get massive in my pond...then the hawks eat them, but hey, for .29 I'm not going to complain. Very helpful staff- always friendly and happy to give advice. Side note: they do not have a cat groomer. I know this because I wanted my cat made to look like a lion and while I know spending $50 on such a thing is ludicrous, it wasn't even an option. We get our pups groomed here all the time and their great with both pups; one's a senior and the other is pretty vocal and they both are well taken care of here. Friendly staff who are always helpful and kind. I've taken my pups to their discounted vaccination clinic too...decent prices and quick service. Great Vetco service allowing me to get a Bordatello shot for my dog while on vacation. The whole staff was very nice and the wait was relatively short @30 mins. Received mend this service if you need vaccinations and don't have a veterinarian yet. Prices for food and other items are pretty high. read more

Brought in my puppy (not her first time being groomed) to this PetCo because it's close by and has good reviews. Was told once I got there that I would not be able to have her fully groomed/shaved because she is a puppy and they try not to do too much at once. While this is understandable, I wish that this was communicated to me when I made the appointment. It was also frustrating that the puppy bath/sanitary trim was the same price as the full groom. When my pup was returned to me, she was hacked up and looked worse than when I brought her there. Her sanitary trim was patchy and the fur cut around her eyes looked awful as well. While I understand she might have been a wiggle worm, it seemed that this cut was not taken seriously at all and that the groomer did not even try (that was how it appeared, anyway.). I now have to bring her to another groomer to be fixed. The cherry on top was the disappointing customer service. Instead of communicating to me any issues/telling me how my pup did during the service, she handed me the receipt and told me to go to the register with no further words. She seemed annoyed/inconvenienced by me. As a pet owner and professional that works in animal medicine, this is completely unacceptable. Alyssa, you need to sharpen your skills and focus on your customer service. You will not build clientele this way. read more

I decided to try the grooming salon, I have to have someone who's good with Rottweilers and after talking with the staff one day they gave me the name of a gal who is very good with this breed. I was able to get a next day appointment on Saturday! When I met her, she was very helpful and professional. My Rottie let her clip her claws (She's particular about that) and she looked and smelled gorgeous! Unlike Petsmart, you can't get cash back when you go to pay for services and you can't put a tip on there, so make sure you bring cash for a tip. read more

Beware if you plan to buy saltwater fish or corals here. ZERO return policy. When I was there on Sunday, 10/23, I purchased some soft corals. I noticed that the clerk was performing a water test, checking the specific gravity of their tanks. I glanced at the hydrometer and saw that the water did not even register on the scale of the test meter - the lever to indicate specific gravity was all the way at the bottom. I thought to myself, that's odd, maybe something wrong with their test meter. When I got the soft corals home, I tested the water in the bag with my own hydrometer, and got the same reading - didn't even register. SO these poor corals have been living in what is the equivalent of brackish water, and I now have to try to acclimate them to my tank. I did a drip acclimation for and hour, brought the SG up in their container, ensured the water was the same as what was in the tank, and then introduced them. They are still in shock 24 hours later, and having just called the store, I was told there is zero return policy. EVEN THOUGH their water and mistreatment of the corals is probably going to be the reason they can't adjust to my perfectly calibrated tank. I will never, ever shop at this store again and will tell everyone I know about this lame return policy - even when they know they are at fault for mistreating the corals in the first place. 10/29 - Update Called customer support for Petco. Spoke with an escalation specialist twice. She called this store, and they were supposed to call me to try and resolve this issue. The store has not called me. They told their own escalation specialist that they couldn't call me yet because they were having problems with their phones. Funny, I called them and spoke to someone just fine. So, the store is obviously trying to avoid me, because they know they are in the wrong, and refuse to make this situation right by refunding my money and admitting that they were the problem. I'll continue to call their Customer Support (because they too, like the store, never call me back when they say they will) until I have a resolution to this. 10/29 - Update 2 Called customer support again, they contacted the store again, and the store did contact me this time. They refunded my purchase price. read more

Always have fun with our puppy at the puppy playgroup (Friday's at 6 and Sunday's at 3). And Jacob has been a lifesaver as a trainer. We tried books, DVDs and YouTube and failed horribly. When we had our first class with Jacob our dog wouldn't even come to us when called and currently after four classes does ten commands and is loose leash walking! read more
