I made an appointment and dropped my dog off. I got a call back to pick up my dog 5 minutes before closing. When I went to the grooming area, there was a man there with his dog. What the heck is he doing there on MY APPOINTMENT time? Especially since the store was already closing. What I think happened, was that the store associate had to recut his dog and then gave my dog a half ass cut. I really paid $41 for them to cut her face and clip her butt. It was NOT blended nicely. The first time I brought my dog in they also did a half ass job but I gave them a second chance. The workers obviously hate working there. Look for another job and let someone else who will do your job correctly work there. I will not be bringing my dog back here. read more

Especially when you ask for help, they don't really take their time to tell you about the product info, and sometimes they could be rude. :( From my view, the prices are a little over priced, but then again they provide good and trusted brands. Angel Howard is the most fantastic dog groomer my Golden Retreiver, "Rylee" has ever had! She has groomed Rylee for over a year. I always feel Rylee has been left in the care of a professional dog groomer that will take good care of Rylee. I never worry about leaving my dog with Angel. Angel is an expert in the dog grooming arena. She gave Rylee several "Report Cards" about the status of her fur, nails, ears, any concerning areas. She also will recommend any products that Rylee might try to help her dry skin. The Blue Buffalo with salmon did help the dry skin. Most importantly, Rylee likes Angel too! read more

We bought a Cameleon for our 10 year old son for Christmas. It was apparent that everyone who worked in this store loved this pet not only this particular one but others as well. I felt like I was being interviewed before they would give us this precious animal. At first I was taken back but now I know after having "Abby" for a month that it was pure love the people working at Petco had for their animals. Due to the delicate care they gave, our son has the best Cameleon ever. She is already trained being around people and we were trained on how she was cared for. Abby is VERY happy in her new home. We constantly come by to purchase crickets and all the employees ask how she is doing and we express how thankful we are with their excellent caring for her. Wow! I have a ball python that was refusing to eat. Came in and a very helpful young man (in the reptiles did not get his name) stopped what he was doing and listened to every word I said. Brought my dog in to get groomed and came back 5 hours later. The groomer completely missed all the hair from his behind and laughed about it and said "Haha oops", like its funny. I felt a little insulted and he seemed like he really didn't care about his work on my dog. The poor little guy was irritated all over and had razor burns all over his stomach area. I was inside this Petco about 2 hours ago(9/16/15) and was not impressed at all. I normally go to Petsmart for all my dog needs but was near this place. I went in for dog training treats and was not pleased with their selection. They had only one aisle of dog treats and were very limited on their brands. Their employees did not arknowledge me until I was standing walked through the aisle three times and stood at the end looking confused. I asked them if they had the pet botanics dog treats and the employee had no idea what I was talking about and even walked with me down the aisles looking for the brand. When I explained what my dog ate (Wellness) and how I would try their wellness brand treats she suggested that I upgrade my dog food to blue buffalo when actually wellness is a top brand. All cash registers were abandoned also and I stood there too waiting to be helped. I just felt like nobody was mending the store or knew about the store products. Their employees I feel need education on dog food brands and the brands that they carry because this employee did not know her store. Not pleased. We used to take our dogs to get groomed. They did an okay job grooming however they need need some serious help on customer service. We got a call last week from the manager and trying to get us back as customers, my husband figured the manager was great so well try again. We had an appointment at 1:00 pm today. There was an accident on freeway and it put us 15 minutes late for the appointment. First off there was no dogs getting groomed when my husband showed up, they were sitting around. China started off with "you know your 15 minutes late right" . Yes I have respect for being on time, this was out of our control. Now and nice person would have respectfully explained they had another dog coming in and could not accommodate, China was rude, unprofessional and had a terrible attitude. No wonder there was no one there. The manager need to fire and rehire people with a pleasant attitude who actually enjoy animals. Never again....Yes I know we were 15 minutes late and a pleasant attitude would have gone far. This is a generalized review. Petco should carry GlenHaven brands. My vet recommended that and I wanted to find it elsewhere for a cheaper price. I had to resort to the internet. I also had to buy some chinchilla items and this specific brand for it because it's a picky rodent. I am "babysitting" this critter for a year. Anyway, I bought this specific food for him at the store, which was 11.99 and later went online to look for other items. I went to the petco site and wow I never knew how much cheaper things were if you ordered online. The food I bought from the store was around $7 something. I decided to stock up and buy in bulk. I did also return what I bought in the store. What's weird about Petco's shipment is that had sent my order in 2 different boxes. One came immediate and the other came about 2 days later. read more

The best haircut on my cocker in a long time. Spoke with Christian before he groomed Tessa. Had a number of requests. Feet were done really well. Chest and stomach were not shaved but he explained why. Her skirt was left long and where it starts on her sides was evened out. Ear length was a bit short but had said he could cut a bit off to shape them. Then he said he would be leaving for 6 months but assured me that the other groomer would do just as good a job. We will see when next we need her bathed and groomed. read more

This store was a huge disappointment on Black Friday. The sales were minimal or non existent. They wouldn't even price match the prices on their own Petco website! The selection of dog toys was nice, but overpriced. I carried 8 items to the register but when I found out the items were not on sale and they wouldn't match the Black Friday prices in the website, I walked out empty handed. I won't be going back to Petco. And btw, petsmart had amazing sales and I walked out of there with lots of great gifts at great prices! read more

This was my third time visiting this store at the same location. Every experience I've had has been challenging. The employees seem to be unprepared for customers with questions about basic products carried at the store. My fiance and I live right down the street and we have one dog, one cat and as of today we will have two chameleons. We have been coming to this location for about a year and we absolutely love it. Everyone there is really nice, very helpful and knowledgeable. Two employees go above and beyond though. Jack has only been working there for a few weeks but he has been the biggest delight. He has priceless info for many different animals, he specifically helps out with being new chameleon owners. He's incredibly kind and we have great convos! And lastly Anthony! I came to this Petco to check out their selection of fish. An alarming number of the tanks had dead or dying fish but what disturbed me the most was the terrible condition their Silver Dollars were in as all of them were missing their fins. Most of the packed plants were withered and rotten which gave me a good impression that little to no care is placed in the aquatics section. I definitely do not recommend going here. All the fish and plants are overpriced and neglected and you can definitely find healthier fish and plants for cheaper prices elsewhere. read more

I usually go to Petsmart but recently moved and this Petco is very close so I decided to make the switch. However, I've taken my dog 3 times in the last almost 4 months and it looks like he hasn't had his nails done in 6 months. His nails were even curling from length. The last time we went in I had to bring him back because they barely clipped them. They don't like for you to sit in the room and watch them either. While I was there I witnessed the groomers leaving the other dog on the table unattended to answer the phone. Needless to say, I just went to Petsmart last night, and they couldn't believe the condition his nails were in. They were cut in bad angles. Petco also clipped my dog's nail so poorly that they quiked his dew so badly that they thought he may need a vet. Because of this, he was absolutely terrified of getting his nails done again but the groomers at the Bella Terra Petsmart were so good about it. They said we weren't the only ones with Petco complaints. I, personally, will never be taking my dog back to Petco. They like to chop them at weird angles and skip certain nails for clipping and over clip others and "recommend" you come back in a week and a half. HORRIBLE job. read more

I don't take the time to praise a business or critique a business often enough, even when it is justified, but I WILL take this time today to tell my fellow yelpers about the incredibly great service and experience I received last week from the grooming department at the Westminster Petco. Took my dog in for a simple groom with bath, trim and nails and from start to finish the groomer, Javier, was amazing. This guy took the time to look my dog over, ask me about food and meds I give my dog and gave some great tips and recommendations. You can tell this guy really cares for and loves animals because he was so gentle and calming and my dog was actually very calm with him (My dog is a terrier mix and usually very nervous around strangers), so I felt he was in great hands when I trusted him to Javier. Even though the guy was crazy busy...apparently he runs the whole salon by himself there...he still did an amazing job on my 'Mickey'...and did it all on time and had him ready when I returned. The price was good, and I tipped Javier $10 (would have given more but that was all the cash in my wallet) and promised I'd be back. It will soon be time for another grooming and my dog will be happy to see his favorite new groomer again, and so will I. read more

Petco is a good pet supply store with a wide selection. They seemed a little understaffed though. It is hard to find someone to help you sometimes. You need to sign up on the Petco Rewards card to get their sale price. Animals there seem healthy and well taken care of. Their prices could be better. Sometimes, you find a great item on clearance. I just want to thank JJ for giving us the best customer service ever! If I could give more than 5 starts I would. Although JJ is a dog trainer she helped us out which I though was that she was on the floor and not with the dogs. She is so knowledgeable about dogs and care for dogs. She was on the floor cleaning dog poop from a dog that pooped everywhere.. it smelled so nasty and the dog poop was all over one aisle. When I approach her to ask her a question she literally took the time to help us out and her attitude was amazing especially since she was cleaning up a nasty situation. She literally helped out find a few things we need and instructed us how to use the products. I am so thankful for her. You can tell she genuinely cares for animals and I definitely will be coming back because of her. I was already considering bringing in my rescue dog in for training but after chatting with her, I only want her to train my dog! I can't wait to come back so she could train my dog. UPDATE: I called later that evening to try and speak to a manager but was told that the manager, Jeremy, wouldn't be in until 12:45 the next day. Unfortunately we were leaving the next morning for a camping trip and would have zero cell service. When I got back I went in to Petco and spoke with a female manager and showed her the picture and she seemed really surprised. She said she would do some research and took my info. I got a call later from Kevin, the person who groomed Shiloh and he asked if I could bring Shiloh in so he could see the area and offered me a refund. I'm still kind of confused by his reasoning behind how the wound occurred. At first he said that it was already red and irritated and maybe he scraped it before hand or it happened at his previous grooming appt. When I told him it was definitely not there beforehand, he said it was intentionally cut that short because it was already red and irritated. Which even if it was intentional it is now scabbing up so it was still poorly done and cut way too close to the skin. He said if it was a fresh wound there would've been blood and he would've taken him to a vet but it's just pink. He did take responsibility however and said that he should've told me but he just forgot because it was so busy that day. I did get a refund and he offered a free spa package for our next visit but we will still not be back. read more

I purchased several fish from them and since that day had nothing but problems. The fish I purchased immediately showed signs of sickness-white spot. I notified Petco and they offered to replace the fish however the fish died before I could return them. I also was misinformed about which fish were compatible and ended up with 4 dead guppies and 6 dead tetras that were eaten by their tank mates. Overall disappointed with their lack of knowledge of their stock and up keeping the animals health. I will refrain from shopping at Petco for any live animals. read more
