Listen, I don't yelp a lot but I really felt I needed to for this gem...I eat a lot of Chinese (and food in general) and this place was some of the best I've had in the DMV. The dim sum is actually fresh and you can tell it was made in house and isn't the exact same frozen stuff you get at most dim sum places. It's EXCELLENT. The Mongolian beef and kung pao are also sooo delicious and amazing. I love the fact you can get a number of small plates and taste everything - just enough to share and not have to take home a million dishes. My dinner partner loved the pork belly - but it was just okay for me. It was very tender and well seasoned but I think pork belly just isn't my favorite in general. We also got an order of lo mein for my child which was okay - a little greasy but he loved it. I can't wait to go back and get some of the larger plates because I was drooling over the things I saw on other people's plates. Tbh I might even go back alone tomorrow for lunch! read more

Having recently moved to the area, we were excited to try this place just in time for the Lunar New Year. Given the holiday, we expected some level of wait, but what we didn't expect was to be completely ignored upon arrival--no greeting, no acknowledgment, not even a simple "We'll be right with you." It wasn't until a woman wearing a head wrap asked if we had a reservation that we were addressed at all. When I said no, she simply walked away without any follow-up. Unsure of the process, I had to step in and ask how to check in. Meanwhile, another staff member--a man wearing a mask--also disregarded us. Eventually, we were checked in, but with minimal information, forcing me to ask how long the wait would be. It's disappointing to see a business operate with such a lack of hospitality. The experience left a negative impression, and I'd rather not go through that again. read more

We finally made it to Peter Chang's Herndon and it was very well worth it. We came with a large group (10) and had a reservation. It was pretty full, which was expected for a Friday and with the hype. Seated promptly (they have two large, round tables that could easily accommodate our sized group. It took a minute for drinks to be ordered and the bar is fairly small, so took some time for all the drinks to come out. Our order was all over the place, from several small plates for some people to entrees and even a full Branzino (fish) in broth. By all accounts everyone was very happy with their orders. The service was very good and everyone looks forward to getting back there for more of the menu offerings. I would recommend to anyone planning to go to look at the menu beforehand, because they do have an extensive menu. read more

I heard a lot of buzz regarding this restaurant in Herndon. I haven't found a Chinese restaurant that I like so I decided to give this place a try. I was looking forward to some traditional dishes such as sweet-and-sour chicken or general tso. This restaurant did not have those options, But the food was good and i will return to try other dishes on the menu. Since there is a small bar, I would recommend that the restaurant offer drink specials. The cocktails are overpriced. read more

We have been wanting to try this place and ordered take-out last night, New Year's Eve, for pickup at 5:00pm (order placed at 2:45). 1. The order was not ready on time. 2. Both on the menu and order platform is states that 6 pan fried pork dumplings come per order, we had 4. 3. The Mongolian Beef seemed boiled instead of lightly fried to give the nice sweet taste, this was flavorless. Kung Pao and the Sesame Beef were fair. 4. Rice is ordered and paid for separately. 5. Our experience at this restaurant was disappointing from start to finish. The most concerning issue was with our drinks. Both my mom and I found black specks in separate drinks, which were clearly inedible. When we raised the issue, the manager was not only dismissive but outright argumentative, claiming it was from the ice. She then spilled one of the drinks on the table while trying to prove her point, only to find the specks in her hand. Shockingly, she did not even offer to clean up the mess and never checked back in with us. The service was extremely slow--our food took an unusually long time to arrive, and appetizers came out randomly, rather than together. Hallelujah!! Peter Chang's is now in northern Virginia!! The food is amazing!! I ordered my go-to chicken and mushrooms which was delicious, as it has been historically. Mama's eggplant was yummy. The Amish wonton soup was perfect for the cold night. I was a walk-in and ordered a take out was treated wonderfully by the greeter. The place was buzzing with activity and everyone was friendly and smiling. A lovely experience. read more

Stopped by here for a dinner on a weekday. Always been a fan of Peter Chang's places so wanted to see if this location holds up. Vibes: This is a smaller restaurant, so the tables felt somewhat cramped, especially in the middle section. The tables along the sides and back do look relatively more spaced out, but it's definitely a cozy vibe. Restaurant was clean, well lit, and wasn't too loud. Drinks: A Smoky Old Fashioned was ordered. It took a while to get made but was very strong and tasty. Don't think you would be disappointed getting a drink here. Food: Ordered the following: -Dry Fried Green Beans with Pickled Cabbage: a little bland, although well cooked. The weakest dish of the ones we ordered. -Pork Soup Dumplings: A serving of 3, which is somewhat awkward to share. The skin was a bit tough and they don't give you any additional toppings for them. It was fine but there are better soup dumplings in the DMV. -Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings: These were pretty expensive for 6 but were delicious and the dipping sauce was a nice surprise. Wouldn't explicitly recommend them but they are yummy. -Lion's Head Pork Meatball: Juicy, tender, and easily shared for two if you get the one serving, and can be a good entree if you get the 4. The gravy is bland and the bok choy is just decoration, but man, these are a sleeper hit. Definitely try this. -Cumin Spicy Lamb: Favorite dish without a doubt. Very flavorful, spicy, well cooked. Simple but delicious. Definitely will order this again. -Beef Chow Fun: Lacking a bit of wok hay and color, this felt more like a pad see ew than a Chinese chow fun from a dimsum restaurant. Don't recommend this here. We tried to order the BBQ pork pastries but they apparently didn't have any of the items with BBQ pork, which was disappointing. Service: Our server was fine, as were the other wait staff and bussers. Think the staff is still learning the menu as well, as they don't quite always catch your order the first time or will need confirmation with a point or two. Parking: Tons of parking in this shopping center, both in front of the stores and the lot at the end of the road. If I could give an in between score I would probably put closer to 4.6, but I think 5 is fair at this point. Looking forward to stopping by again soon and updating as necessary. read more

I'm not sure why this place is getting such poor reviews. We went early on a Friday and everything was great. The food came out fast, staff was extremely attentive and friendly, and leftovers were packed up securely to ensure no spillage. We got the scallion pancake, soup dumplings, pan fried pork dumplings, fried rice for the kids, numbing peppercorn flounder, Szechuan popcorn chicken, hot chili Mafu tofu, and fried green beans. Everything was great, Will definitely be coming back here. read more

Finally a chance to try this restaurant (love Mama Chang's). Had Spicy Dry Fried Red Pepper Chicken (yummy .. but enough to feed all three of us as a main), Peter's Beef Delights in Clay Pot (the sauce is the bomb, the tomatoes were firm and meaty and the beef was flavorful), Stone Pot Mixed Vegetables (again, yummy and crisp), and Crispy Salt & Pepper Shrimp (a comfortable, but passable choice). Tried to order fried rice .. "we have white rice", which was probably an answer specific to the dishes we ordered, but generally there was a bit of a barrier there. New liquor license .. wine was quick, mixed drinks not. Just from a design perspective, the space seems small (especially compared to the Paris Baguette next door). Although I appreciate a liquor service, I wonder if a bar is necessary .. even if it does include dining options. We were seated at one of two bar tables up against the front windows, so we had a full view of the amazing carryout business. However, those poor people had to wade in through others standing in the very small vestibule. Those front tables will be cold and drafty in February. I can't help feeling that the thought was put towards more table turns and less towards walk-up business, where people waited probably 20 minutes for a table. After so many restaurants (in the company), why not better design choices? As noted elsewhere, the place is noisy .. it's basically a warehouse with hard surfaces. read more

I am a bit torn on this review; I ordered the Chicken Lomein and the noodle base was very tasty. The noodles have a good bite, tasty sauce, vegetables add a nice freshness while still being cooked, and the chicken was juicy-not remotely over cooked or tough(as is often the case at other restaurants). Truly it was an excellent tasting dish; but there was a value issue, at $18 for a lunch Lomein dish/meal I expect at least a full portion of protein. While tasty, the dish came with 3 medium-small pieces of chicken, around one once, paired with a quart of noodles. The ratio was all off, and it was out of chicken with 3/4 of the noodles left. I want to give a 5, and I want to visit for lunch regularly, as it is right next to my office, but at this point I just can't justify a $18 price tag that needs supplemental protein to get me to dinner. Don't get me wrong, I'll crave these noodles from time to time, and I'll probably try again at some point in the future with the combination Lomein and other dishes to see if I can get a full serving that way. I wanted to give this review to draw attention for the business that the ratio is woefully inadequate for the price tag, and to warn others so that they are pre-warned that the Lomein is a $18-side dish, not a main at this point. I look forward to returning for dinner on occasion, but as a lunch destination I'm afraid I'm not sure this makes sense unless you are on an expense account. read more

Wow! I just discovered my new favorite Asian restaurant in the Herndon area. I had read a lot of positive things about Peter Chang 's newest Tapas restaurant and tried it by ordering several Tapas sized items from the menu. Salt and Pepper shrimp was delicious and not too salty but with a great nutty-like flavor. My wife's favorite was the basil eggplant in a sweet sauce. Mongolian Beef had a good portion of tasty tender beef. Lastly, my close favorite was the chicken with snow peas, which had a light flavorful sauce. None of the dishes were overly salty and all were well prepared and delish. Service was excellent and the person taking the phone order was so polite and helpful and delivered quickly at a quiet time in the middle of the afternoon. We rarely enjoy eating restaurant food these days, but Peter Chang is one exception for us. read more

Visited Peter Chang on a busy night and it did not disappoint. The place was nicely decorated and tables are spread out so you have some space btw the neighbors. We ordered Peking duck, steamed branzino, scallion pancake, Dan Dan noodles, duck bone soup and bok choy with tofu. Service was slow but our server did her best by refilling water and even changed our dinner plates so we can have the Peking duck on clean plates. The fish was a bit salty and Peking duck wasn't as crispy as I liked. But overall all the dishes tasted good. As you know, I like value and this place was a good value for our money. Good food, fairly priced and great service. We definitely will come back to try their other dishes! read more

I am so excited to have a nice Chinese restaurant in the Reston/Herndon area without having to go to Tysons. It is modern, clean and has a cheerful vibe. The servers were attentive and good at providing recommendations. I have tried the dim sum and it is pretty good especially the dough part of the char sui bun. It is just missing the traditional dim sum cart. I have also tried them for regular lunch/dinner and I especially love the bok choy with tofu skin ... it is fresh and green. The meat dishes were good too. They also have good cocktails ... based on my friend's feedback. I love the hot tea served in a beautiful teapot. I have yet to try their Sichuan dishes but is looking forward to going back again. read more

When we arrived around 5 pm the place was fairly empty - they sat the 2 of us at a table for 2 right beside the wait station - divided from the table by wood slats but very noisy. We asked to be moved and were graciously accommodated - service was very good. I tried a variety of dishes - hot and sour soup with shredded duck (probably the best I've ever had), fried pork dumplings, duck spring rolls and Mongolian beef with scallions and onions - you had to add and pay $1 for plain white rice. An extensive menu so it was hard to decide. Everything was good (with enough to take home). My only quibble were the bones I found in my spring roll - luckily I bit down on them before I swallowed them or broke a tooth. They also had a Gruner Vitliner wine which isn't often found on menus - it was good and one of the lowest priced. By the time we left it was getting crowded and the parking lot was a zoo. See it brand new so pick this place for dinner on Sunday night. My two stars are one for service and one for decoration. Service was good and our server is attentive. Decoration is modern and looks a lot better than regular Chinese restaurant. It servers American Chinese food (if you look for authentic Chinese, definitely this is not the place). However the food is not good at all. Dish is small. We ordered beef chow fun, but no beef (yes no any meat not even ground beef) and bland. Lack of soy sauce color. Mixed Veggie in stone pot is Portuguese style sauce still very bland. Cooked in non traditional Chinese veggies combined (bussel spout, egg plant, tofu, carrot, and potatoes). The veggie is not cooked in the stone pot. The pot is just a container for presentation. Shrimp dumplings skin is thick but the filling is good and delicious. Siu Mai is salty. I don't think I would go there again. read more
