Visit Date: September 10, 2015 My husband and I came here for our monthiversary. I wanted to take him to Coyle's but despite their hours being listed as open til 12 am, they were closing when we got there. So we decided to come to Peter Pan diner. We had a fourth meal, or elevenses in hobbit speak. We split an order of mozarella fries which were typical diner fries and of course pretty damn good. We also split a dessert they had called death by chocolate which was absolutely amazing. The staff was very nice and we discovered something called the wheel of discounts. Basically it's a game the diner runs every night. If you get a certain check number you are entitled to spin the wheel and receive the discount or free option that the wheel stops on. I think that's a very good idea for customer loyalty and an added fun bonus to the diner as well. We would be back here again if we had the opportunity. read more

I preface this by saying I'm not a fan of old-school Long Island diners that never modernized at least their food, if not the dining experience altogether. I came to Peter Pan Diner because I had heard that it was different from the other 50 random diners on the island. After eating here, I'm not sure what makes it different. It's still an old-school place with food to match. I went with the corned beef hash, eggs, home fries, and toast for $9.29. Somehow, it never crossed my mind that the corned beef hash was going to be the stuff out of a can. It surprised me because I just assumed it'd be house-made or at least "real" corned beef hash brought in from Sysco. They essentially dumped a can of corned beef hash on the griddle, mashed it flat, browned it, and put it on the plate complete with all the grease and salt that came with it. I asked for my eggs scrambled and they were pretty overcooked while also being underseasoned. In the end, the underseasoned eggs helped balance out the salty corned beef hash, so it worked out. The home fries were another disappointment. The potatoes were soft, with no browning and no flavor at all. I don't usually use ketchup on my home fries, but I needed it this time. I also had a piece of french toast which was underwhelming. They charge over $5 for one piece of french toast or over $6 for two pieces, which is definitely overpriced. It's literally just two pieces of pre-made french toast warmed up and served on a plate. They're the same french toast you'd get at a hotel's free continental breakfast or on the line of a cheap breakfast buffet in Atlantic City. For the hash and eggs plate, the piece of french toast, and a cup of orange juice, my total came to over $18 before tip. I don't see how this place can stay in business with the food they're putting out. For $18, you can go elsewhere and get real house-made corned beef hash with actual big chunks of corned beef. I normally go to Brownstones, which is only 5-7 minutes down the street, where you can have a much better meal for the same cost. I normally get the corned beef hash meal plus coffee and split an order of french toast bites for around $20 per person. I got to spin the wheel and "won" 10% off my next meal here, but I don't think I'd ever return to Peter Pan Diner. read more

We had a really great experience here. I have been doing a diner tour in Long Island because they are very similar to Coney Islands in Detroit. Except they close and aren't all 24hrs. My husband had the Roast turkey grilled cheese with pesto and he loved it. 4.7/5 I had almond blue berry pancake stack with bacon .. baby!! It was amazing. The only reason I didn't give it a five star was because our waitress dropped our food off and we didn't really hear from her until we were done. We never got refills either. A very delicious salad! The Greek with grilled chicken also accompanied by warm pita points, dolmades, tzatziki, and Greek dressing was beyond amazing and exactly what I was craving! Slightly pricey...$20, but in all honesty well worth it if you love a really well made salad and came with the extras I mentioned...not too fast...not too slow...didnt rush us out or rush us to order...pleasant server and made sure we had everything we needed. Peter Pan diner has been a staple in the area for many years. I've been coming to the PP for longer than I care to admit. You could count on consistently good food and better that you would expect service. But something has changed and not for the better. For about the past year or so quality has steadily gone downhill. When Mario left the diner changed. Food preparation is more haphazard and the corners that are being cut are becoming obvious. The last couple of times we went were disappointing. Still, I gave them a half dozen more visits hoping the lousy experiences were a fluke. Sadly, they were not. Yesterday I tried to order takeout. Website offers 10% if you're willing to create an account and give them a credit card as payment when ordering online, neither of which I'm willing to do, sooooooooooooooo. I called for takeout for pickup, as I have done many times before. Recording says they are too busy to take phone orders. That's it. I'm sorry to say goodbye to an "old friend" in the Peter Pan. What Happened to this place? They used to have wonderful food, I ordered takeout tonight for the first time in years. It was terrible! I had the French Dip. Have been coming here for years. Great diner and always clean. I have even ordered through a service to have this delivered and the food is always hot and great just like when you sit in and eat it. Out of all the times that we have ordered only once they forgot one item. I've been to this diner a few times over the years and always am pleased with the food. On our most recent visit I got whole wheat pancakes with apples and cinnamon in them. It tasted fresh, as did our friend's chocolate chip/peanut butter pancakes. The staff is always pleasant, the decor is normal Long Island diner fare, but the food is always solid. Never have I had a bad experience at Peter Pan Diner. I have been there a good 4 dozen times. Their Clam Chowder is phenomenal; there are leeks in it! It's incredible. Their Breakfast's are always impressive; best hash on the planet, eggs perfectly cooked, and bacon always crispy, never floppy. Salads and sandwiches are great. Meals; I gotta be honest, I didn't venture into their meals too far. It's a diner. I ate "diner food". Chicken fingers with a side of gravy and some disco fries. They rocked. This place is awesome. Five stars because Peter Pan is a part of my hx and makes me smile. This visit was my first in about a year; I grew up going to Peter Pan. My friends and I had a great time as always. We reminisced about the days when there was a smoking section...good times. Our waiter was Donny and he was great. Everyone dug their meals. Pancakes were light and fluffy. Omelettes were great. I had one minus the cheese with a freakin delicious garden(spinach,broccoli,asparagus,onions and mushrooms)...it was fresh and huge. I immediately boxed it and ate my side of fruit. The fruit wasn't bad although it had clearly just come from the freezer. They might drain it more properly next time. I will say, the bananas were fresh and delicious. I'm so homesick after a recent relocation to Miami Beach, so being at Peter Pan was perfect! It's as awesome as always. read more

Long Island is loaded with diners and in the past this was one I used to avoid. I was pleasantly surprised this time. The interior looks as though it must have been recently renovated which is nice. I went there for lunch. They had a decent lunch special selection which included drink, soup and dessert. I ordered the broiled fish entree with lemon and garlic sauce which was tasty and made the way I like it (without too much sauce). It came with rice pilaf (good) and broccoli (eh...soaked in water too long?). After lunch we were offered selection of dessert. We both chose lemon meringue pie but to our disappointment they were out! We opted instead for the rainbow cake. Quite a generous portion of cake but was not as fresh as I would have liked it to be. Where can I begin. Our dad/grandpa is in the hospital and we live out of state. But the nursing and staff have been so amazing with keeping us in the loop with his care. So we wanted to do something special for them and so we decided to order Peter Pan Diner for them. So I called and spoke to the owner who was nothing but pleasant. He helped me select what would be ideal for the nursing staff. Then, he blew me away when he went above and beyond what we expected. He was so very generous and all of the staff called and raved about what he did. Peter Pan has been our go-to diner for more than 10 years. They have great breakfasts and breakfast specials, their burgers are fantastic, and the meals are good values. I've been here plenty of times with my family. They have regular diner food (soup, sandwiches, breakfast options), for standard diner prices. What's prime about this place is the location. It is located right on the Service Road of Sunrise Highway, so it is very easily accessible. The parking lot is this weird V-Shape. Service is usually warm, attentive.
