Disorganized and wasted my time. I was picking up a hammock for my hubby and what was supposed to be a 10 minute stop (from paying to pick-up) turned into a 35 minute visit. Turns out they couldn't find the hammock that was placed on hold. I was told after I had already paid for it at the counter and shuffled from the front to the top of the hill (where you pick-up bigger items). They ordered more from the warehouse so I had to come back another day to pick it up. I came back to pick it up and I shuffled again from the front of the store to the top of the hill and back. They couldn't find it and when they finally did, it was another 20 minutes. Other than this ordeal, I've gotten really good service from this store. Hopefully next time I won't have to do this song and dance to pick-up an item. read more

Pete's in def a home town hardware store! Many times when I need some hardware for some home or craft project I'm working on I automatically think of the big box stores. But when I do remember and go to Pete's I ALWAYS think, why didn't I come here first?? I find what I'm looking for, sometimes it costs a bit more, but it is more than worth it for the service you get here. The staff is friendly and know their product, and they are more than willing to help you. I was in there this morning looking for something, asked an employee who was doing some inventory where I might find this product. Instead of pointing which way to go, she took me there and then helped me find the correct size, measured, cut and bagged it, ready for checkout. I don't believe hardware stores actually provide any service as I've been going to Home Depot and Lowe's and have been accustomed to being ignored. Going to Pete's hardware was complete opposite. I was not only greeted when I came to the door, but asked how he could help. A customer service person was called up to the front desk and was walk back to find the appropriate parts. He didn't leave until it was insured I got what was needed. What a rare treat to find good service and customer support still lives. I wish all stores were as helpful as Pete's hardware. If I can help it, no more big impersonal hardware stores for me. read more

I have never done this before, also not being part of this town. I took an chance several days ago and came to Pete's while stopping in town for some little stuff. I have to mention on how all the cashiers were so happy and welcoming when I came in. I MUST say that coming in a hardware store that size with so many things was intimidating. But I was offered help right by the door! I left with some knowledge I was expecting, and now I know where I'm going to for repainting my kitchen, I believe it was Andy and Curtis who had helped me. They both had such a great attitude and willingness to help for my project. Although didn't get my paint yet, they just opened my eyes to what I wanted and needed. Thank you to this establishment. I was looking for a pair of screws to hold my over the range microwave and stumbled across Pete's Ace Hardware for the first time. I encountered their wide variety of screws and nuts. But unfortunately they didn't have the exact screws I needed. But overall my experience with this location store is 5 stars material. Lisa was the worker who assisted me and was very knowledgeable and helpful. She explained to me the screws I needed were hard to find because the samples I brought to show her, came with my microwave purchase and were meant only to be used with that specific model and manufacturer. Even though I couldn't solve my issue with finding a replacement screw, I was pleased with their awesome customer service and the amount of detail products they carried. I Highly recommend asking for Lisa if you need any assistance or have questions. I will definitely be coming back here in the future If I'm ever in need for any products working around the house. read more

Took me awhile to get out of the Home Depot habit. This place is closer, has just about everything I have ever needed, price is similar and the staff is extremely helpful. I go in there asking for thingamajigs and the staff tells me what I meant, shows me the options and warns me of typical problems to expect when I try to replace it myself. I feel like I get a free lesson when I by my product. I now only go to other hardware stores when I need something so specific, Pete's won't have it. This rarely happens. read more

I arrive at Pete's at 4:55 to get some mouse traps and the doors are locked. Seeing that they close at 5:00, I asked the guy that was putting their outdoor merchandise away about letting me in. At first he said no, that they are closed. When I said that it's 4:55 and that I needed to get something he said that they are closed and that they want to go home too. The only reason I go here is for convenience, certainly not for their service as it seems to deteriorate each time I go. read more

A recent Yelp review (6/21/16) praised the customer service provided by Bret in the garden center. Unfortunately, not all of Bret's peers take their job as conscientiously as he does. Yesterday in mid afternoon, an employee (known here only by the initial "T.") was helping a woman customer. Apparently, T. was due for a lunch break, which he felt the woman was infringing on by posing a series of questions. The woman seemingly asked one too many questions, which prompted T. to abruptly stalk off in mid sentence, calling out as he fled "I'm late for lunch." The woman cried out, evidently hoping he would reconsider his abruptness, but T. turned a deaf ear to her pleas and didn't return. read more

I live i San Lorenzo and I have passed this hardware store many times, but never gone in. Today was the first and last time I will visit this location! I was going to order a 20 lb propane tank online ( I checked prices before I purchased) Ace had the best deal and offered me to purchase online and pickup at the CV location since they had it in stock $32.99 instead of the $50 plus I found elsewhere. Since it was so close and they had in stock we decided to drive there and just purchase ( it was no cheaper to purchase online) Cut to the chase...I was charged $52.99 and didn't ( we purchased other items and I wasn't really paying attention until I got to the car) let me back up...Diego helped us and he was not friendly at all...but ok, not a deal breaker yet.. So I go right back in ( he was texting on his phone at the counter) I said excuse me "I am back" in a joking manner ( he was stone face ) I explained the situtation, He never looked into it and as I was trying to pull it up online he explained how I didn't read it right and that was for the exchange price....I tried again to explain and he continued to tell me there was no propane tank that size for that price... so I said I would just get a refund since I can get a 20 lb tank cheaper someplace else. He got attitude with me and did the return, I spoke to the manager and she ended up finding the tank that was online and took care of me. As she was talking to me he askes me if he was rude and I said yes and explained in front of the manager that I also work in retail and he should have asked a manager when I had a question since he clearly didn't know what I was talking about and she did. When I said I thought he was rude...He smiled and said "ok" not I'm sorry like he should have. I was always calm and never rude to him. As soon as the Manager walked away and I paid for my new tank ( which the returned one will now take 4 days to be credited back to my card!) He gives me my receipt and sarcastically says " thank you" I said you still have attitude with me Diego and he says "ya I guess so!" This guy should not working in retail!!!! read more

They also value their customers by not price gouging during emergencies unlike other ACE hardware stores in the area! I live in Castro Valley and I am all about supporting small businesses. THIS PLACE ROCKS... every time I go in, there is always someone who is willing to help a lame-o like me. Want to call out CONNIE (LOVE HER) and she is a plumbing specialist (GIRL POWER in an industry that lacks the ladies). She went above and beyond "just showing me" what to buy. She gave me tips and other suggestions without hesitation. She seriously made me walk out of there thinking I can do it (with her as my adviser)! I am also looking to buy a part and she quickly reached out to her supplier the following business day and I already got a text from her... LIKE A+++++++++++++++ service... Seriously, I hope her manager is reading this bc in this day in age, all we hear are complaints and not enough awesome-ness that CONNIE showed! I was very shocked and disappointed to find out that the local Ace Hardware store in our city had closed. The closest one was this one. I drove to this hardware store to replace screws in my car (the handles/hooks that had fallen out by themselves) and on my foldaway cart. I had no idea what to look for, but as soon as I walked in to a counter, dragging my broken cart along, I was directed to where I needed to go, and the guy behind the counter called the guys in the back to let them know I needed help. I dragged my broken cart and looked for the screws myself, but I gave up and asked for help. In no time, the associate found the screws I needed. Not only did he find them, he put them on my cart! This is great service I didn't even ask for and was so grateful for such helpful people. I wish I had gotten his name. While waiting for my items to be written up so I could pay for them, I watched both guys jump to help the other customers with great attitudes. It's this kind of service and attitude that makes me want to make sure I go to this Ace store for all of my hardware and other needs. read more

My boyfriend went to ace hardware today for a tool for his car and while in line decided to put the tool down because he remembered it was cheaper somewhere else. The cashier and whole store surrounded his car and accused him of stealing. He walked back inside and showed them the tool. As he walked back he was verbally abused by the staff, calling him a thief etc. No one apologized for their wrong doing. The disrespect is a sign of age discrimination. Being new to town, I thought I had to go to Lowe's for all our fixit stuff. Turns out, there's a great hardware store at Pete's. It's deceptively roomy, and they even manage to squirrel away a lumber yard up the hill somehow. They have plenty of roaming employees that will cheerfully lead you to exactly what you're looking for, no matter how obscure it is. The store is a bit of a tight squeeze just because they have so many aisles/products, but since the helpful staff is always escorting you to what you're looking for, then it doesn't really matter. Their selection isn't as abundant as the bigger hardware stores but they always have what I need and it doesn't take me hours to find it. Actually, I never have to "find" anything because there is always an employee near the entrance to show or take me where I need to go. There are so many helpful people on the floor. It doesn't matter when I go there I will always be asked about 3 times by 3 different people if I need any help.
