First time, found someone's cc on table, she said something rude and told me to leave the card where I found it. Another time, asked me to wait outside for covid, after a while I asked about my order and her response was it been ready but did she let me know, nope. Asked for some sauce, was told they ran out. I have been coming here from Oakland for the avgolemono soup for many many years and it never disappoints. Its wonderful silky texture is perfect without being too thick or too watery. I like that there are no pieces of chicken floating around messing up the experience for me. The slight tartness of the lemon is perfectly balanced with the sweet chicken broth. Each order comes with warm pita. I always get mine cold to go so I can reheat it at home. At under $4.00, you can't go wrong. read more

Just ordered the salmon salad and hummus. Salmon did not taste or look fresh. Something just didn't taste right so didn't continue eating. Pita bread did not taste fresh either. Became hard after about 5 or 6 minutes. While I was waiting for the food, I noticed how dirty the floor was, liquid from the trash bags that was dripping and carried past our table. I've been coming here for over 10 years, but unfortunately after many, many second chances I can no longer come here. The value for the food is good and I appreciate that, but for the same price or $1-2 extra, I can get a significantly better tasting and fulfilling meal. I think their plate meals might be the only redeemable items on the menu here. Everything else is very hit or miss, but in the last couple years, it feels like a miss more often than not. The tuna salad's I've gotten here have used tuna that tasted worse than the 99 cent cans of tuna you can get from the grocery store. Overall, it tastes like a pretty generic salad every single time. The plate meals have a passable-Greek flavor and taste to them, but are often quite dry. The gyros are always very inconsistent. Do not get gyros from here. The tzatziki sauce has ZERO flavor (it tastes 100% like sour cream) and they always put too much of it. Even worse, they will place wet lettuce, wet tomatoes, wet onions, and the tzatziki sauce on the bottom of the gyros (directly onto the pita), and then layer the meat on top. Unless you can eat the entire gyros in less than 5 minutes, your entire pita bread will be soggy. It tastes and feels gross when you eat it. The only thing that isn't wet is the meat, but that's covered in sour cream, so it doesn't taste good either. The last gyros I bought here was cold on the outside and hot on the inside (because the meat was hot). And of course, within less than 5 minutes, the gyros was mushy and falling apart because the pita was soggy. I believe in local businesses and understand how difficult food business is, but I'm sorry, I can't in good conscience spend any more money or provide countless tips to a business that's been declining in food and prep quality for the last couple years. I can only rate this place 2 stars on their worst days, and maybe 3 stars on their best days, but I can't even get consistent quality in how my food is made, so you know which rating I'm leaning on. read more

Nice spot in Orinda. Right next door to the movie theater. This spot has a wide selection of menu items and HUGE portions. Update: owner messages me saying I must've been looking at an old menu and where did I see it? I saw it posted on the window of your restaurant!!! Misleading prices and staff who could care less. I ordered a gyro and fries on the phone. Go to pick it up and prices are 20% higher than their menu. Lady at the counter gives me attitude and speaks to me as if I don't speak English. I say your prices on the menu show it should be lower. She says that menu is wrong. I ask then why is it posted on the window and at the counter? Her response: "I'm not the owner I'm just a cashier". I ask her can you let the owner know that s/he is misleading customers by posting incorrect prices then charging them higher. Her response "I'm just a cashier ". Then she turns and in Spanish makes a rude comment to the cook. Unprofessional, illegal, and dubious practices. And staff who clearly don't care about their customers. read more

My complain is not for the food quality , Actually they gyros are pretty good,is for the customer service skills. They have to learn treat customers with respect , I was leaning on the counter placing my order and the cook lady on duty was very rude, she didn't say EVEN PLEASE move out the way,she wanted to put somebody's order on the little counter they have. Is very noticeable when somebody has bad attitude and bad matters. Definitely I won't come back again , actually I never like they customers service skills. Normally I have no complaints about this place, but today, I have many. First, I noticed my meal was more expensive than normal, so I asked for my receipt. The cashier proceeds to give me a receipt that just showed my total (not itemized). What am I supposed to do with that? I asked her for the pricing, she got a big fat attitude! I asked why she charged me more than what's stated on the menu and she did NOT like that. She then threw $2 at me and turned away.. Excuse Me?! Secondly, when my food came out, it was terrible. My meat was partially burned and the tomatoes in my gyro were near a pinkish white color. The tables were dirty, I could not locate a trash in sight, AND little gnats were everywhere. When I walked in, all I could smell was cigarette smoke. Every time the door swung open & closed, everyone on the inside of this small place was doused with his blatant disregard for those that don't enjoy the taste of ash in their mouth. Is their fault: Please. Don't assume that I don't want onions on my gyro, because my friend frequents this place and always orders them without. The lamb was really good, the chicken was pretty good. The lamb and beef gyro available for &7.25 for a 7 inch pita or $8.25 for a 9 inch pita is filled with meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki. The 9 inch is large enough to cut in half to share. Most delicious. The French fries are $2.75 and tasty. They offer souvlaki, spanakopita, dolmades, grilled salmon, salads, moussaka, greek platters, and more. The wait can be long if you don't call your order in ahead as there is normally only a single cook and one person working the register. Inside there are 3 small tables crowded together. Outside has a few tables and chairs, however I like to get my order to go and eat somewhere in nature. Food is delicious. A whole rotisserie chicken is $8.95., the same price as the 1/2 chicken dinner that comes with rice and veggies. The most expensive item is the grilled salmon at $11.95. Sweet little homey spot. Got the Lamb rice and veggies for 11$. It was beyond amazing. Super fresh cooked right in front of me. Lamb was so tender n flavorful. As well as the generous amount of veggies. A whole zucchini a medium tomato and eggplant. The rice well made and not too heavy. The tzatziki was heaven and obviously made fresh. They were sweet enough to give me Pita bread to try with it. If you want to eat healthy, flavorful, with homemade feel. This is the spot. Came in two days ago and there was a credit card on the counter. I asked if it belonged to a customer thinking it was one of the people still at the establishment and the woman lackadaisically answered "yes, it's someone's." Clearly she cared less and so I asked if it was anyone's here and nobody claimed it. I told her that she should put the credit card away and not leave it on the counter where people can take it. Came in today and the same woman was working the front desk. She took my order and failed to hand me the credit card back. I hadn't noticed and left without the card. Called back and the phone was answered by another employee who stated that she wasn't working earlier and it wasn't her responsibility- that I would need to call back during the day shift. Came by in person to follow up and the employee working the grill informed me that the woman had put the credit card out on the counter and that it was therefore no longer their problem. Update! I have been going to Petra for years and today I just had the worst experience at this restaurant due to the unbelievably rude female cashier! I walked in and said to the cashier that I had called and placed an order, number 4. She obviously didn't hear me and responded with a very snarky "well we didn't ask for your name so you'll need to know your order number" in which I responded "I didn't give you my name, like I said it was order number 4" she quickly grabbed my card and processed my payment. When I confronted her telling her I didn't appreciate her rude tone, she began to get hostile with me starting to insult me. I asked her which bag was my order? She grabs my food bag intentionally ripping the bag off of the counter so I wasn't able to reach it, the bag is completely ripped opened while she was throwing a complete tantrum! Yes, the food I already paid for. Her coworker, quickly re-bags the food and ignores the tantrum she just threw. I asked for her name to make a formal complaint and she refused asking me "I'm not giving you my name. Are you going to call the police on me?". I never mentioned calling the police, I'm just not ok with being treated so disrespectfully. She proceeded to take her phone out and try to take pictures of me. YES, the worker who is also handling the food, IS NOW TOUCHING HER DIRTY PHONE trying to take pictures of me. Keep in mind this is during the coronavirus pandemic, so gross and unsafe! I asked to speak with the owner, Alex, who was overseeing the entire situation and he did not intervene at all in any attempt to make it right. Another worker named Juan agreed to speak with me outside, to which Juan didn't even acknowledge or apologize for how inappropriately I had just been treated. He refused to refund my food and told me to come back the next day because he would make all the food for free. Why in the world would I ever come back to this place? I'm shocked with how poorly they treat customers. I would highly advise taking your business elsewhere and avoid this entire place! They are absolutely terrible and the cherry on top is that they recently increased their prices a ridiculous amount. $13 for a salad when it used to be around $8. Unprofessional.
