Petra Mediterranean was a wonderful find in Pacific Grove! The baba was absolutely top notch, and the chicken shish kebab platter was heavenly. The restaurant has a cute, relaxing vibe, and the service was excellent from start to finish. I'll definitely be back!

The best Chicken Gyros Sandwich paired with the best salad dressing out!

This restaurant is tucked in a corner in Pacific Grove, so unless you're looking you might not find it. I happened to be looking specifically for Mediterranean food and most the spots in the area are not great, so decided to give them a try. The interior is clean but a bit dated. Which doesn't matter at all to me, if the food is good. They have REAL chicken gyro. Not chunked, shredded or cubed but actual chicken gyro style slices. The pita bread they serve it on is soft and fresh and their taziki sauce is great. I recommend getting a salad on the side because they have the BEST Greek dressing ever! I get an extra one to put on my gyro lol Service was very good as well. Highly recommend trying them out. I was told that the Patra Cafe in Monterey doesn't have the same owner but it's the same food....never been to that one so not sure how they are.

This place was so amazing! If you have a gluten and dairy allergy they are more than happy to accommodate and help you. The place is quaint and quiet, it's a perfect location for just a relaxing dinner or lunch! The food was amazing

This place is fantastic. Hands down don't miss going here when in town if you like Mediterranean food. Service was great. Ambiance is super cute and authentic. We had Gyro pita and chicken pita. Both were delicious. I loved the seasoning on the meat. The dressing on the salad was great. This place needs to franchise! Chefs kiss!

Petra Restaurant (Mediterranean Food) Menu

The whole restaurant was very clean and decorated with various ambiguously Mediterranean objects. Service was slow tonight. There was just one server, who was also doubling as greeter/host, for the entire restaurant tonight. He was pleasant and helpful when he was able to attend to us. However, he was rarely able to find time to check on us. The meats and dolma in the Petra Combination Platter were very dry. The rice was good. The tabouli was not very finely chopped like you might find in the Middle East and Mediterranean. The hummus had almost no tahina and was very garbanzo heavy.

This place was amazing! Even though the restaurant appears old and just like someone's house, it's very inviting and so cozy. The food was so good and tasted so fresh. The pita bread tasted homemade and was so soft. Our server was very kind and attentive. This place needs more business!! Ignore the modern and trendy places down the street and come here instead!

Another fantastic meal. We went vegetarian and had so many options and all of it was fresh and delicious. And lots of leftovers. Yum!

Ask the Community - Petra Restaurant

Is the meat halal?

Food is terrible

Is this the same as the restaurant in Monterey?

The Greek restaurant in Monterey is Epsilon. It is not the same as Petra in Pacific Grove. You may be thinking of Dametra, which has a full restaurant in downtown Carmel, and two fast food spin-offs, one in Del Monte Shopping Center in Monterey,…

The man who made our food was making it to Order and he had been running this business for over 40 years! The service was excellent and it felt very personal. The food was absolutely delicious! Everyone in our party completely agree agreed that they loved everything they ate. There were two omnivores, one vegan, and one vegetarian. And the vegan baklava! What an incredibly unique and special treat to find baklava vegan! Absolutely delicious! I'm a huge fan of spanakopita, but I haven't been able to eat it for a long time because I'm the vegan in the group and when I said something about that out loud, he said he would make me a special vegan spanakopita! Right there! Made To Order! This man is amazing. Seating is very limited, so several of the people we saw that came behind us got their food to go. I think most people there need to expect there would be a little bit of a weight and that seating is very limited and it's outdoors. Although the outdoor seating does have covering. All the people in line, waiting for food seem to have no problem waiting for it because they knew it would be worth it. And honestly... Considering the line of people we saw behind us (10-11?) and the fact that there were three ahead of us... no one really had to wait very long at all! It was really impressive how much he could get done by himself. The next time you're in Monterey, California, you definitely need to check out Paprika. I only managed to get one photo of my plate of food because I was too distracted by deliciousness to remember to take photos of anyone else's food. And obviously, by the time I remembered to photograph the baklava.... Several pieces seem to be missing.

I stuck with a classic martini, but others in our party of five explored the cocktail menu and were impressed. The bartender was warm and welcoming and greeted us right away for our reservation. Unfortunately, the experience took an awkward turn at seating. We had requested a view and were about to be accommodated when another staff member (auburn hair) interrupted abruptly and loudly, insisting we not be seated up front due to other reservations. It was uncomfortable and felt unprofessional--especially in front of guests. As it turned out, she was our server. Throughout the evening, her demeanor didn't improve and felt out of step with the otherwise welcoming environment. Having spent over 25 years in the industry and as a restaurant owner, I know how important frontline staff are to the guest experience, and this simply didn't reflect the level this place is capable of. That said, this feels like the exception--not the norm. I've had pleasant experiences here before and will return, hopeful that this was just an off moment.

There is a shared restroom with the gas station, just a few parking spaces available. No street parking. As for the food and service, I ordered a combination of beef/lamb & chicken shawarma over rice. The rice wasn't ready to go, so I waited 20 minutes for the rice to be done. While I waited, they let me try the falafel (excellent) and a packet of sesame thins which were ok. As for the shawarma, it was good. It was full of flavor. There was a side of tzatziki sauce and a tasty salad that came with it. I'm very particular when it comes to halal street food having lived in NYC for years. It's good for the area. I think I'd try the kebab, gyro and falafel next time. For the foodies in Monterey, it's worth a try! Price: $16

Located inside the Hyatt Regency Monterey property!…read more We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant during our stay. Traveling with our dog, pet friendly spaces are incredibly appreciated, and we were able to enjoy both meals outdoors on a fine June day! We had breakfast out in the big tables while our pup settled next to us - we had steak and eggs, chia fruit, a side of bacon and a side of boiled eggs (for the pup). For dinner, we dined by the fire pit and had the steak and bolognese pasta! So happy we got a great spot by the fire pit and we were able to roast marshmallows after. However, there was some miscommunication during check-in at both the hotel and the restaurant. We were told that our stay included complimentary breakfast. Although we had initially planned to explore local spots, we decided to take advantage of the breakfast at the hotel instead. On Friday, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast, believing it was included, and then spent the day exploring beautiful Carmel and Monterey. On the day of checkout, we returned for breakfast and were surprised when our server, Rudy, informed us that our stay did not include complimentary breakfast. We explained that we had been told otherwise at check-in. Rudy was very kind and even went to the front desk on our behalf to clarify, as we were concerned about an unexpected $75 charge. Unfortunately, he confirmed that breakfast was not included, which left us confused. We decided to speak with the manager , Jessica to share our experience so she would be aware of the situation. She was incredibly understanding and, to our surprise, generously offered to take care of both Friday's breakfast and the breakfast that morning. This was completely unexpected and we just wanted to make sure we didn't get charged the $75 and we simply wanted to bring the issue to her attention to help prevent it from happening to others. We were truly impressed by her professionalism, kindness and understanding. Along with the excellent service from Rudy, this turned into an overall great experience at Sea Root. Thank you, we will be back soon!
