Best Pizza and antipasto salad i n town. Owner and staff are friendly and informative

On a Friday night in late January. My hubby and I went to dinner here. It was our first time there. We parked on the side street and walked to the restaurant. Inside has lots of booths and long tables for big parties. The waitress gave us a booth and menu. Nice ambiance of playing music in the background. Our server was nice and she gave us free bread and butter. I ordered chicken Parmesan with spaghetti with house salad and Pepsi drink $24.95 with chicken wings. The bread arrived and it was soft with butter pieces. Next our Soda arrived in Xlg cups with salad. I was almost full then my chicken Parmesan arrived. It's very saucy and cheesy with bites of chicken Parmesan. Also the spaghetti was cooked just right. The waitress checked in our table several times even though she has quite of customers.

Petrillo's is a long-standing, old school Italian joint. In an area where it has become very Asian populated, this Italian spot is one of few. We had stopped by for lunch hoping for sit down dining, but the dining room wasn't open yet. Instead, we ordered a Medium Pepperoni Pizza ($28.25) for takeout, which took about 15 minutes. When we got the box, it was super greasy. The pizza is also sliced in squares, which gave more slices. Overall, it was good pizza but I wish the crust was more crunchy. It wasn't all that special to me, so maybe dining in would've been different. If I wasn't supporting a family business, I'd take a Costco pizza instead.

Pepperoni (pepperoni slid to one side since I stored it wrong).

Ordered 2 individual pizzas (salami+ mushroom & pepperoni): a little salty but that was probably due to the cheese and meats. Plenty of toppings. Will order again Requested thin crust and I think they obliged. Was definitely thinner than I remember

The pizza has made a huge improvement from my past experience. The employees up front are always friendly and nice. I've ordered numerous times since my bad review and they have been a 100% improvement!

The service from the moment we entered was so unwelcoming and unpleasant. Daisy has a terrible attitude and told me "I only have two hands" when I asked for more cups... girl... the food was so bland, I'm not sure the point of the server if she didn't even box our dishes, let alone clean the table as we ate. All the staff was useless, never again. This restaurant has gone all the way down hill

Tip: There are two separate shops. One shop is dedicated to the dine-in restaurant. There's a separate shop right next door dedicated to takeout orders only. Great price for the quantity, but it's okay with flavor and texture. Parking: Side parking is available and there are a few parking spaces open at the back of the restaurant. Calamari: They do pack a lot of calamari, but the meal overall was okay. The squid felt tough to chew on and the fried breading was tough. Small Speciality Pizza: Pizza is HEAVY when you order, the box will feel heavy. Petrillo's packs a lot of toppings. If you're a heavy eater, I would say you can eat 2-3 slices. With 3 slices you will feel stuffed. I would order a small pizza if you are sharing with a group. Each small pizza comes in 8 slices. The toppings taste fresh and their Italian sausage are so juicy and full of flavor. However, their crust is on the harder side compared to other pizzas.

I asked for pink sauce they didn't do it so I added Alfredo to my order and it still tasted horrible

It says your pasta comes with a side of spaghetti but I didn't get a side of spaghetti! And i ordered 3 dishes. The bread was burnt and they didn't give me Italian salad dressing. I asked for Italian they gave me ranch! I ordered at 3:26pm so before the dinner rush no reason to get it wrong Didn't come with any Parmesan cheese or red peppers Don't waste your money here Horrible experience I called and the guy who picked up said oh well come here we'll give you cheese and a dressing wouldn't tell me his name. Hung up on me a lady took my next call and said "honey just eat what you got" wtf?!? Worst place and staff ever

Pizza looks better than it tastes. The breading and crust were bland and tasteless. There isn't much to say about the toppings. The workers were nice and the food was prepped in a timely manner for pick up. There is a separate entrance for take out vs dine in.

I'd been craving pizza on a Saturday night and finally decided to try Petrillo after hearing about it for years. I placed a takeout order through a food app, which estimated my order would be ready in just 30 minutes. Petrillo is located off Valley Blvd, and while the area can be busy, it wasn't too hectic when I arrived. There's some street parking available in front and along the side street, making it fairly convenient. Once I picked up my order, my first impression was how heavy the box felt. I ordered their most popular selection recommended by others here. The pizza was absolutely delicious, with every slice generously loaded with toppings. Most slices were perfect, though a few were a bit on the salty side. The thick slices were incredibly filling. I was surprised this was considered a small pizza since it could easily feed 2-3 people. I usually have a big appetite, but I couldn't finish it in one sitting. Freezing the leftovers worked out great and kept the pizza tasting just as good later on.

Ask the Community - Petrillo's Pizza

Are they open on Christmas Day?

How am I able to contact the restaurant instead of the building next door?

280-7332 is the only phone number now available. Unfortunately this place has changed. They also haven't updated their hours. Apparently they close at 7pm on Friday & Saturday now. They closed down one of the dining rooms but the other is…

    Is the dinning room open?

Weekends. I think for dinner only

Are they open for dine in on sundays?

Our takeout hours are open weekly, and our dining room is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

What are your new hours for dine in?

    They open at 4pm

Is Petrillo's closing? There is a for lease sign hanging on the outside.

Petrillo's is NOT closing, the lease sign is for another unit in our building.…

Do they have a Wednesday special? Saw some one post about some $5 special on Wednesday

No , Tuesday special only available

    Have they opened dine-in yet?

    Dine-In Opened from Monday-Friday 4pm-7:30 / Saturday-Sunday 2pm-7:30. stop seating costumers at 7:10!!!

Is it open for dine in ? Thanks

    Yes

Will you please let us all know as soon as you have a dine-in opening date? I've been waiting patiently. Pick up is great but I'd much prefer to dine-in. Thank you!!

Maybe 6/15. Lots of places are staying with take out for now.

How many people does the family size feed?

There are 24 slices in a large. 15”x20”.

Is it open for dine in?

    No. Not yet

When are you going to have your dining room open again?

Striving for mid to late June.

Why do they put less toppings?

I've been going to Petrillo's for over 30 years and I too have noticed that. The price point is high so you expect the food to be the same. It is disappointing that they have done that.

Their phone is always busy and there is no online order option :/?

No sorry no online orders. Just keep trying

    Do they offer curbside service?

No they do not offer that service.

Do they take online orders for food to go?

    No they don't

Are they going out of business?

I heard via the "Nextdoor" social media site that they closed on 12/31/19. I just called them and they said that only Mama Petrillos on Las Tunas is now closed. Petrillos on Valley is still open!

Do they serve pizza by the slice, if so, how much?

No, they don't... and given the quality of their pizzas, I highly doubt that anyone could stop after just one slice!

Is this Petrillo's location affiliated with the one in Glendora?

Yes the Glendora location are the same owners.

They use the same parking lot as Summerfield so it can get busy at some times. I called in to place an order for dinner and it was super easy and convenient. I ordered their Di Pilla Special pizza and a medium Parpadelle special pasta. The total for these dishes came out to be $62. Their portions are quite large since they're a family style restaurant. They also gave us complimentary bread which tasted amazing! I will say that I felt really heavy and full after this meal so this is definitely a cheat meal type of food. Food: Parpadelle Special Pasta (9/10): The noodles are huge and thick and the sauce gets absorbed perfectly. There's mushrooms, spinach, chicken with a white sauce base. They loaded this dish up with sauce which was heavenly. I even dipped my complimentary bread in the sauce because it just tasted that good. The chicken was so soft and wasn't overcooked at all. Between a family of three, there was a perfect amount and didn't have any leftovers. Di Pilla Special Pizza (9/10): Wow, the amount of toppings? Insane. We ordered the medium size which is a 14 inch. There was pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, hamburger, and bacon. I had to go back to their menu to see what toppings there were because wow was there a load full. I thought that the mushroom and bell pepper did overpower most of the slice. We had so many slices left over because of how full each slice makes you. I had it the day after and It was still tasty. I need to come back and try their other menu options. They have so many options to choose from which gets overwhelming because everything sounds amazing!

We ordered a spaghetti and meatballs, and it was delivered without the meatballs. Huh. Got fixed. Meatballs are delicious. Better than Charlie's Trio (where it seemed too heavy on the breadcrumbs, which made the whole meatball soggy and meh, although I prefer the marinara sauce at Charlie's - it's sweeter. Mamma's is more tangy, which my partner prefers. Anyway......saucy tangent aside...). We also got a mushroom/spinach pizza which was delicious, and an appetizer of toasted cheese ravioli. They gave us some free garlic knots to start. Delish. You order at the counter and they give you a number. The tables were moderately clean. The (very nice) staff member who came to our table when we realized there were no meatballs asked us to dig under the noodles to see if the meatballs were...hiding? We earnestly asked him, "Do you see any meatballs?" because, I dunno, maybe they were really tiny meatballs? My friends and I came here on a later Friday evening and there was no wait to walk up to the counter and order. Lots of historic pictures of celebrities who have dined there. Fun fact, NONE of the framed pictures and artwork (especially the largest one) are centered. If you're not too sure what to order, they have a lot of their pizza behind the glass for you to get an idea of what you're going to be feasting on. Most items come out quickly and decently hot, but for freshly made/assembled items like the garlic bread I ordered, it may take 10-15 minutes, but it comes out super hot and it's super worth it. Water is self serve and they also have condiments like Parmesan cheese, crushed red peppers, garlic powder, and other various spices. For my order, we got the: 1) Spicy Spring: -Rectangular cut pizza with Diavolo (one of the funniest Jojo villains to be honest) sauce, small cup pepperonis, fresh mozzarella, and Pecorino Romano. -I love pepperonis and they did not skimp out on how many goes on a slice. Crispy edges and salty perfection. Not super spicy, but has enough of a kick to make each bite addicting. 2) Sicilian Style Garlic Bread: -If you told me this was a sauceless cheese pizza I would have wholeheartedly believed you. Comes in a rectangle cut into 6 pieces. Super shareable and comes with your choice of sauce and I got the vodka sauce. -The worker in the cool goggle glasses recommended putting the crushed red peppers with the vodka sauce, and he was COOKING. Delicious and super garlicky and cheesy on it's own but the additional add-ons added a much needed extra kick to keep things lively. Word of warning, it is SUPER oily, but that's partially what makes a pizza so indulgently deliciously. Solid favorite of Pasadena and for pizza enjoyers.

I then asked if I could order the penne pasta dish with chicken but substitute a different pasta since I'm not a fan of penne, and again was told no. I've been to plenty of restaurants that don't allow certain substitutions, but simply adding chicken seemed like a reasonable request, especially since I didn't mind paying extra for it. It just felt a little strange being told no to every option. That said, the other staff members were attentive and provided good service throughout the meal. The restaurant itself is casual and had a steady crowd while we were there. I also noticed the entire staff working that night appeared to be male, just an observation. The food itself was really good. The baby greens salad, pasta dish, and chicken portobello were all very flavorful and enjoyable. The sausage had a great flavor, and the crust was very fluffy and doughy--so if that's your preference, you'll enjoy it. However, the cheese experience was disappointing; it was clumpy, overly salty, and quite oily. The cheese slid off the slices almost immediately, which made for a messy meal. So, I was looking for something new and came across this pizza joint. Don't be fooled by their…read morename, this place has probably one of the most delicious Detroit style pizza. Their 4 squares was more than what I had expected. 2 slices filled me up! Location is on the second floor, almost hidden but don't worry, to locate it, just walk west, towards lake st once you're upstairs, it's wrapped around the little brunch spot. You can actually miss it if you're not too familiar. Pizza. Astounding. Definitely fresh ingredients. Tastes like Detroit style. Massive amount of cheese but not too much where it's overpowering. The pepperoni were the right amount as they double up the layers, hence the name. The workers were quick to attend to our needs. Service was definitely what you'd expect for a restaurant. However , dining location indoors only is quite small, maybe about 3-4 tables with shut 4 seats to each. Overall, I would come back and try their other pies, we love pizza and this is our new favorite place to visit when we're in the area!

I have been wanting to try this Asian family owned Detroit style pizza joint for some time, as it…read morehas always had a lot of hype around it. Unfortunately, it proved to not really be for my tastes. I will mention, as maybe this was an issue, that the day I chose to go was of course the odd day where they had some sort of "emergency" and didn't open their doors until hours after usual, so maybe their game was off. Located in a small Pasadena strip mall, the parking is on the side street and goes up to the second floor, which is where the pizza place is located anyway along with an Indian restaurant and a couple more businesses. The place is incredibly tiny, clearly meant for take out and not at all for dine in. There are three 4-people tables total and no bathrooms for customers. Went right when they opened and got a large Caesar salad, which was pretty good. The problem were the two four square pizzas. And the biggest trouble was the sauce, which is way too sweet in my opinion. I got the plain cheese and one with black olives and Italian sausage, which was more generous with the olives than the spare sausage. I didn't think it was anything special. Then again, I have been to the main places in Detroit and not been wowed there either. Still, this wasn't as good as other Detroit pizzas I've tried, so unfortunately I can't recommend it from my experience.

Their Biggio and their Margherita. Both were really good, but the margherita was especially crave-worthy

I've had a lot of pizza from New York City, to Italy, to many destinations in between and this crust is up there as some of the best especially to be based in California. That being said, I've had better pizza. The sauce really left something to be desired. It was underwhelming and a bit bland. The wow factor was definitely missing and sauce tends to really make or break a good slice of pizza. Same goes for the cheese used...It just lacked that yummy cheesy goodness you usually anticipate when you bite into a slice and it didn't help that they were a little skimpy with how much cheese they put on their pizza. I think this place would be phenomenal if they took the time to nail the sauce down and really invested in good quality cheese. They're so close just missing the mark on the flavor. The crust absolutely saves them from being bad but it still made it just an "okay" slice of pizza. The staff at the order window were friendly and helpful. The environment could use a little cleaning but overall it seems like it reflected the hipster/ quick eats vibe they're going for and it works for their business. Try this spot out and judge for yourself.
