On a Friday night in late January. My hubby and I went to dinner here. It was our first time there. We parked on the side street and walked to the restaurant. Inside has lots of booths and long tables for big parties. The waitress gave us a booth and menu. Nice ambiance of playing music in the background. Our server was nice and she gave us free bread and butter. I ordered chicken Parmesan with spaghetti with house salad and Pepsi drink $24.95 with chicken wings. The bread arrived and it was soft with butter pieces. Next our Soda arrived in Xlg cups with salad. I was almost full then my chicken Parmesan arrived. It's very saucy and cheesy with bites of chicken Parmesan. Also the spaghetti was cooked just right. The waitress checked in our table several times even though she has quite of customers.

Best Pizza and antipasto salad i n town. Owner and staff are friendly and informative

Petrillo's is a long-standing, old school Italian joint. In an area where it has become very Asian populated, this Italian spot is one of few. We had stopped by for lunch hoping for sit down dining, but the dining room wasn't open yet. Instead, we ordered a Medium Pepperoni Pizza ($28.25) for takeout, which took about 15 minutes. When we got the box, it was super greasy. The pizza is also sliced in squares, which gave more slices. Overall, it was good pizza but I wish the crust was more crunchy. It wasn't all that special to me, so maybe dining in would've been different. If I wasn't supporting a family business, I'd take a Costco pizza instead.

Pepperoni (pepperoni slid to one side since I stored it wrong).

Ordered 2 individual pizzas (salami+ mushroom & pepperoni): a little salty but that was probably due to the cheese and meats. Plenty of toppings. Will order again Requested thin crust and I think they obliged. Was definitely thinner than I remember

The pizza has made a huge improvement from my past experience. The employees up front are always friendly and nice. I've ordered numerous times since my bad review and they have been a 100% improvement!

Tip: There are two separate shops. One shop is dedicated to the dine-in restaurant. There's a separate shop right next door dedicated to takeout orders only. Great price for the quantity, but it's okay with flavor and texture. Parking: Side parking is available and there are a few parking spaces open at the back of the restaurant. Calamari: They do pack a lot of calamari, but the meal overall was okay. The squid felt tough to chew on and the fried breading was tough. Small Speciality Pizza: Pizza is HEAVY when you order, the box will feel heavy. Petrillo's packs a lot of toppings. If you're a heavy eater, I would say you can eat 2-3 slices. With 3 slices you will feel stuffed. I would order a small pizza if you are sharing with a group. Each small pizza comes in 8 slices. The toppings taste fresh and their Italian sausage are so juicy and full of flavor. However, their crust is on the harder side compared to other pizzas.

The service from the moment we entered was so unwelcoming and unpleasant. Daisy has a terrible attitude and told me "I only have two hands" when I asked for more cups... girl... the food was so bland, I'm not sure the point of the server if she didn't even box our dishes, let alone clean the table as we ate. All the staff was useless, never again. This restaurant has gone all the way down hill

I asked for pink sauce they didn't do it so I added Alfredo to my order and it still tasted horrible

It says your pasta comes with a side of spaghetti but I didn't get a side of spaghetti! And i ordered 3 dishes. The bread was burnt and they didn't give me Italian salad dressing. I asked for Italian they gave me ranch! I ordered at 3:26pm so before the dinner rush no reason to get it wrong Didn't come with any Parmesan cheese or red peppers Don't waste your money here Horrible experience I called and the guy who picked up said oh well come here we'll give you cheese and a dressing wouldn't tell me his name. Hung up on me a lady took my next call and said "honey just eat what you got" wtf?!? Worst place and staff ever

    Shirley K.

Pizza looks better than it tastes. The breading and crust were bland and tasteless. There isn't much to say about the toppings. The workers were nice and the food was prepped in a timely manner for pick up. There is a separate entrance for take out vs dine in.

Ask the Community - Petrillo's Pizza

Are they open on Christmas Day?

How am I able to contact the restaurant instead of the building next door?

280-7332 is the only phone number now available. Unfortunately this place has changed. They also haven't updated their hours. Apparently they close at 7pm on Friday & Saturday now. They closed down one of the dining rooms but the other is…

    Is the dinning room open?

Weekends. I think for dinner only

Are they open for dine in on sundays?

Our takeout hours are open weekly, and our dining room is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

What are your new hours for dine in?

    They open at 4pm

Is Petrillo's closing? There is a for lease sign hanging on the outside.

Petrillo's is NOT closing, the lease sign is for another unit in our building.…

Do they have a Wednesday special? Saw some one post about some $5 special on Wednesday

No , Tuesday special only available

    Have they opened dine-in yet?

    Dine-In Opened from Monday-Friday 4pm-7:30 / Saturday-Sunday 2pm-7:30. stop seating costumers at 7:10!!!

Is it open for dine in ? Thanks

    Yes

Will you please let us all know as soon as you have a dine-in opening date? I've been waiting patiently. Pick up is great but I'd much prefer to dine-in. Thank you!!

Maybe 6/15. Lots of places are staying with take out for now.

How many people does the family size feed?

There are 24 slices in a large. 15”x20”.

Is it open for dine in?

    No. Not yet

When are you going to have your dining room open again?

Striving for mid to late June.

Why do they put less toppings?

I've been going to Petrillo's for over 30 years and I too have noticed that. The price point is high so you expect the food to be the same. It is disappointing that they have done that.

Their phone is always busy and there is no online order option :/?

No sorry no online orders. Just keep trying

    Do they offer curbside service?

No they do not offer that service.

Do they take online orders for food to go?

    No they don't

Are they going out of business?

I heard via the "Nextdoor" social media site that they closed on 12/31/19. I just called them and they said that only Mama Petrillos on Las Tunas is now closed. Petrillos on Valley is still open!

Do they serve pizza by the slice, if so, how much?

No, they don't... and given the quality of their pizzas, I highly doubt that anyone could stop after just one slice!

Is this Petrillo's location affiliated with the one in Glendora?

Yes the Glendora location are the same owners.

The mashed potatoes were incredibly soft, creamy, and full of flavor. We ordered the Margherita pizza and a cheese pizza for the kids, and both were delicious. The pizzas were cooked in a wood-fired brick oven, and you could really taste the difference. The carbonara was one of my favorite dishes. It came with an egg yolk on top that you mix into the pasta, making it rich, creamy, and flavorful. The lobster linguine was another standout dish. We also ordered the pork wings, which were so tender they practically fell off the bone and were served over delicious mashed potatoes. The mushroom ravioli was unique, comforting, and packed with flavor. We also shared the ribeye steak, which was cooked perfectly and was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. What really made the experience special was the service. The owner regularly stopped by to check on our table and make sure everything was good, and everyone working there was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was excellent, and every dish tasted like it was made with care and love. The meatballs were flavorful, tender, and a great way to kick off dinner. The pork wings, though, just weren't for me I'd pass on those next time. For the mains, the Carbonara was rich, creamy, and exactly what you'd expect from a comforting pasta dish. The standout of the night was the Amatriciana pizza easily my favorite. Crispy crust, great flavor, and one of those pizzas you keep reaching back for. Overall, if you're looking for a local Italian spot for a relaxed Sunday family dinner, this place is worth checking out. Good food, cozy atmosphere, and enough highlights to bring us back. They use the same parking lot as Summerfield so it can get busy at some times. I called in to place an order for dinner and it was super easy and convenient. I ordered their Di Pilla Special pizza and a medium Parpadelle special pasta. The total for these dishes came out to be $62. Their portions are quite large since they're a family style restaurant. They also gave us complimentary bread which tasted amazing! I will say that I felt really heavy and full after this meal so this is definitely a cheat meal type of food. Food: Parpadelle Special Pasta (9/10): The noodles are huge and thick and the sauce gets absorbed perfectly. There's mushrooms, spinach, chicken with a white sauce base. They loaded this dish up with sauce which was heavenly. I even dipped my complimentary bread in the sauce because it just tasted that good. The chicken was so soft and wasn't overcooked at all. Between a family of three, there was a perfect amount and didn't have any leftovers. Di Pilla Special Pizza (9/10): Wow, the amount of toppings? Insane. We ordered the medium size which is a 14 inch. There was pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, hamburger, and bacon. I had to go back to their menu to see what toppings there were because wow was there a load full. I thought that the mushroom and bell pepper did overpower most of the slice. We had so many slices left over because of how full each slice makes you. I had it the day after and It was still tasty. I need to come back and try their other menu options. They have so many options to choose from which gets overwhelming because everything sounds amazing!

For those visiting, note that there are two separate entrances: the main sit-down restaurant is near the parking lot off Valley, while the take-away entrance is around the back. They have arrows leading to the back, so be sure to follow them. The staff was friendly and offered helpful suggestions. I ordered a small half-cheese, half-sausage pizza ($25.25). The sausage had a great flavor, and the crust was very fluffy and doughy--so if that's your preference, you'll enjoy it. However, the cheese experience was disappointing; it was clumpy, overly salty, and quite oily. The cheese slid off the slices almost immediately, which made for a messy meal. I'm not a fan of a pizza where the toppings don't stay put, and between the excessive grease and the texture of the cheese, it wasn't for me.

Seeing the server and an Asian staff coming out from kitchen confirmed that the cooking wasn't fully American taste bud. But that is the reason why it hit me very well. Honestly, whether you have American or fusion or Asian taste bud, the taste quality is better than some average American restaurants. I tried the butter squash soup, lamp chop, and bow tie pasta with chicken. I was enjoying my soup and lamp chop a lot. The pasta was pleasant to me, but it wasn't exceptionally great compared to the lamp chop. My fiancé loved the pasta though, saying that the sauce wasn't overwhelming. It is not a cheap place to come for, but it is because the food and drinks (good white wine) have quality. The wait for the entrees was a little long, even though it wasn't that busy. I believe it was the chef spending time to make sure each dish was done well, unlike the busy restaurant where chefs only follow the restaurant's recipes to make it quick and easy. Lastly, the ambience was okay, but it was more an older fine dining/family owned style. It had some nostalgic vibe if you'd take it that way. Keep it up. I really hope it will be there forever long.

Once step inside, the decoration, the vibe totally changed. It's a dark hue with humbling yet elegant setting with a bar table and I almost felt like a dining in the cave ambiance. The menu was not complicated and only focused on pasta, but there are so many choices to my liking! The squid ink, the mentai cream, the uni sauce, and the garlic butter sauce. We ended up settling with Creamy Crab Gratin, mentai cream pasta, the Pescatore Bianca (seafood spaghetti), and Tarako Spaghetti (Cod roe and squid garlic butter sauce). -Crab Gratin is really creamy and cheesy. I just didn't quite get why there are a few pieces of penne pasta inside. But overall tasted good! -All pasta comes with bread and salad. The salad is really fresh and serve mostly lettuce and cherry tomato, which is how I like it. The dressing is not the ranch creamy kind, more cloudy vinaigrette based, also to my liking. -Seafood spaghetti came with a variety of seafood, shrimp, squid ring, mussels, clams, etc. The portion is huge. -Mentai cream pasta: delicious! I think if I order uni pasta, it'll be the same cream base sauce but with uni and $6 bucks more. I'm happy with my choice. The whole dish is consistent, creamy with a slight kick from the mentai, slices of mushrooms and shredded seaweeds on the top. Delish! -Tarako Spaghetti: I took a small bite and appreciated the strong taste of garlic butter in the sauce. -All 3 pasta are served with the thin spaghetti like angel hair. Service is ok, we asked for water refill and the response was polite. Dirty dishes were taken away timely. If I had more time, I would definitely come back for a second visit. A place like this deserves to be in a more upscale block on the street. Btw, parking inside the plaza is not free even though it's just a strip mall. Expect about $8 bucks for dinner parking. Collectively speaking, it is above average but not remarkable. If you LOVE Bestia in downtown or…read moreBello by Sandra Nardone (Newport Beach/Irvine), you may like Marina. Tonight "sniffed in" at a 3.75-star affair... PRO: -- above average dishes in general with good pasta and a nice variety of interesting dishes -- ambiance is modern casual and not stuffy -- the location is great for a walk after dinner (if evening cool enough) and you can find FREE street parking or live nearby; nostalgic architecture from homes to apartments in the area -- staff are efficient -- regular updates or reminders on your reservations (could be a pro or a con depending on your memory or personality) CON: -- you can only book online (welcome to the Tech Age), but it is easy to modify if your party size or time needs to change -- they pay about 1/3 of your parking fee which stinks for a normally affordable city for parking (if you're dropping this level of coin I shouldn't have to pay $10 or more for self-parking in Pasadena) -- look for legal street parking (especially on weekdays if you are not scared of a walk) -- prices a bit high for the overall palate effect and portion sizes -- pasta is not on a Bestia level, yet the pricing is nearly there -- the TIME CLOCK is ticking as soon as you sit down and since they are not a large dining space, they are truly on top of their reservations so you will "barely barely" have time to finish your dessert and after- dinner drink (you "may" be advised in a fashion that is neither rude nor polite) -- a bad spot for seeing friends you have not seen in a long time due to the "time clock" so find a secondary spot in advance for hanging out afterwards The REVIEW (I forgot to take a photo of the menu so I will go off memory): COCKTAILS -- my bro had a Rye whiskey cocktail (as I recall) and was a fan and an after-dinner drink; he's fairly picky for someone who finds quality bargain whiskeys as well as drinks the higher end stuff PARMESAN TRUFFLE FRIES: -- ample truffle shrapnel on top -- light on parmesan -- thicker fries and NOT crisp on the exterior -- softer interior -- light on salt -- pretty ordinary beyond the truffle shrapnel which was more of a nuisance to even try to eat since it just falls off anyway RATING = B- TRUFFLE CAVATELLI PASTA: -- thinner almost translucent sauce -- appropriate use of sauce, not overdone -- pasta texture and taste are fine but not a standout, does have al dente "chew" to it -- the clumps of Italian sausage make the dish RATING = A- BLACK SQUID INK PAPARADELLE PASTA: -- creamy -- similar pasta quality and taste RATING = B+ GRILLED OCTOPUS w/CALABRIAN CREAMY SAUCE: -- the sauce is delectable and a great companion -- very tender thicker octopus -- nice portion -- thankfully not too spicy for this GERD sufferer -- finger potatoes perfectly cooked -- colorful tomatoes -- best dish of the night for me RATING = A PROSCIUTTO PIZZA: -- legit Neapolitan pizza crust -- not over charred -- nice prosciutto taste and portion -- cheese underneath good -- I removed the greens to be safe given recent news RATING = A OLIVE OIL CAKE w/CREMA ON TOP: -- I created my own EVOO cornbread recipe, and I love olive oil cake, so I had to "sniff in". Additionally, I am a multi-decade amateur recipe creator and baker. -- exceptional visuals -- you can tell it's moist from the eye and I despise dry cake -- above average moistness -- you can taste the olive oil -- lightly sweet -- crema has a spice to it, but my palate cannot place it tonight (too much conversation with family and friends) RATING = A I do not think I could justify returning since I can find a similar level of food and menu closer to home with less issues.
