Been coming here for 20+ years. Always ordered the specialty. These pizza used to be monsters. Thick loaded with toppings. The weight of the pizza alone made you know you were getting your moneys worth. Last couple of years the crust has thinned out little by little. Today my specialty was the on the thinnest crust I've ever had anywhere . I can literally snap my pizza slice in half. I'm an afraid my next pizza will just be a box with toppings thrown in. Dirty and snobby host. She has to be related to this family in someway no business would keep her around with that kind of attitude. Had to clean our own seats because they were filthy nobody checked on us or even came over to table. We got up walked out. I've only ordered pizza here before and it was mostly doughy but not bad. Wow it's been years since I've ate petrillos pizza. My family is a local and when I went to visit of course they bought petrillos pizza. The dough has changed a little it's not as thick which makes it even better. Flavor is still the same even the next day it's bomb!!! Will be ordering their Tuesday special so worth it!!! read more

First time visiting this place and was so surprised to find such a nice Italian joint in the middle of San Gabriel! We came with a large party and our waitress Lennia was amazing! She was so attentive and fast with our table, constantly checking in with everyone for refills and taking away dirty plates. We ordered calamari, which seemed like a popular dish here as the 2 tables next to us also ordered the same thing! Huge portions! Street parking. Will definitely come back. The food was pretty great for my first time. The waitress and the bus boy were very polite. The reason it gets one star is because the hostess made the whole experience unpleasant. We had a party of six, 4 adults and 2 kids. Two big parties left and we wanted to switch tables my fiancé asked and her response was ," let me ask the girls because they are very strict." That's not what you say to customers when the restaurant is empty and you see that we need a bigger table. The only reason we asked to move was because the tables were not occupied and the family had just left. We wouldn't have asked if it was not something that can't be done. When the bill came to the table she kept walking back and forth looking and watching my mother in law like a hawk to one point making a remark of "Do you have a question on the bill." Mind you with the tone she decided to use which made it worse. There was no smile it was very intrusive. She came off very rude and inappropriate, you just DON'T do that! And my mother in law was actually caught off guard because she's been there before and the "service charge" was never added before and all of a sudden at this visit it was. She was discussing this with her son it was a private convo. Please reevaluate how you treat customers. Accommodating guests when it's practically empty should be doable. I have been going to Petrillos since I move to San Gabriel in the 70s. The pizza is amazing. It's not a fast food pizza place. But it's worth the wait. Lasagna is great, salads are big, and their sauces are great. Archie is great and he always has the greatest staff working. Ambiance is nice and cozy, feels like family. I don't live or work in San Gabriel but I make the drive for their pizza. read more

The large specialty pizza was delicious. Lasagna and fettuccine Alfredo were good too. Food was delicious, however they were short handed and the service was not good. It took a while to refill the water. Also our party got their food almost after we had finished our pizza. Not happy with the service on a Thursday night but happy with the food quality. read more

Petrillo\s is the best I have ever had. Been going their since 1986 when we moved 5 blocks away and loved it. Still go there now and I live 40 miles away, worth the drive. i am old school and the pepperoni pizza is the best, the pepperoni and sausage....plenty of toppins, meal by itself. read more

man how far this place has fallen... placed a doordash pickup order for 1 family sized specialty at 5:21PM and it scheduled me for 6:03. i arrive to pick up and they tell me something along the lines of it not being ready because "when we get busy we dont check our doordash orders, especially because its mother's day"... so being busy is an excuse to ignore parts of your job? i give them benefit of the doubt and they tell me it'll be out in 10 minutes at 6:03. walked out with my pizza at 6:27 and not even a free small salad or something. sorry, sorry service. highly recommend cutting the doordash pickup service if you're not going to care to check those orders. read more

Service at Petrillo's is still hit and miss five years after my last review. The people on this visit were nice enough. The pizza was done within the time they estimated on the phone. We got a small specialty pizza. The quality had been consistent for the last half decade. Their pizza is still the best on the area. It is way better than all the chains and the only one better is Joe Peeps, but they are 45-60 min away in either direction. The price has significantly gone up due to COVID and inflation, but it is still worth it for good pizza on occasion and not regularly. You can also order other menu items like pasta for take out at the pizza pick up place. There is sometimes parking on the street on Valley out front. If not, then there is parking on Gladys. The take out is a small store front to the left/east of the main restaurant. Definitely call ahead so that you do not get stuck waiting on the benches in the small pick up area. The times they give you on the phone are usually pretty close. Just give them an extra 5-10 min if during a busy time to make extra sure u don't have to wait. Most of the bad reviews seem to be for service and not for the food quality. This is sad because 3.5 stars is too low for this restaurant due to the quality of their food. If you are just getting pizza take out, we definitely recommend trying Petrillo's. read more

Dating back 30 years before my existence, my dad and his family lived in El Monte and their go to pizza joint was Petrillo's in San Gabriel. I continue that tradition today by ordering a pizza for the old man's birthday festivities (beer and horse racing) and it did not disappoint. We ordered takeout and paid $66 for wings 17.99, large salad 17.00 and medium pizza with 2 toppings 31.99! Ridiculously expensive for gas station quality! Food was cold although we got there 35 mins after we ordered, like they mentioned. The mushrooms on our pizza were soggy and clearly canned, so gross. Very disappointed with the service and more importantly the food. For those who have written here with 1-3 stars. And complaining about the Pizza. This place historically has been around for more time than some of you have been alive. Heck even me. But this pizza is not of the "modern Pizza". The box and pizza is heavy for a reason. It's a pizza that you can have for a party. With all the fixings. I like the Petrillo's Special. I am alone... but if I want to have pizza for a couple of days, I am going to get the medium. Most of the time it's the small. But as to the Flavor or the way they make it, there is no comparison. I have not found one yet with in the LA and Orange County. I do not get to go to Petrillos that often but when i do it's always a Speciality pizza. Thank you for being around . Rating on Togo side- Their food is amazing. Their pizza is thick with a generous amount of toppings. They make the best salads for a fair price. Their wings however are so small see photo. They are about a half inch ! What I am totally turned off on is their lack of customer service. I have been frequenting this location for years and I think take out represents more than 50% of their revenue for this location. The service has always been the same. No comparison to Glendora, owned by the daughter I believe they have it all buttoned up, glendora location makes sure you have everything you ordered even extra sauces if requested. Maybe San Gabriel employees take after the older man that walks around with a stoic look. I popped in Saturday for a pickup and he happened to walk by. You think he would take a peek in the waiting area and give a waive. Nope. Just like the girl serving the counter zero emotion or customer service educate. I think may have been my last time here. $42 for a large pepperoni pizza?! And it wasn't even that good! Very doughy. Called in the order, walked into the take out side to pick up. Stood there for over 5 minutes calling out, "Hello!" To try to get a human to come out. A guy with long hair and untied apron around his neck comes out. I mention the order, he then disappears for over 15 minutes. A girl comes out, asks for the name for the order, and goes to get the pizza. The first guy probably just made the pizza when I talked to him. Poor customer service, mediocre pizza for way too much. I came here around 5 PM on St. Patrick's Day and the place was booming. We had to wait a good bit for a table. We had the manicotti and a pizza. The manicotti comes with spaghetti and a salad, which was very nice and dressed with their house dressing. The spaghetti was really good. The manicotti was good as far as cheese content but the pasta was a little bit tough. It took a long time for our pizza to come out and I was almost sad that it did. I was quite full from the manicotti, spaghetti and bread. The pizza was well constructed and delicious. We had basil, pepperoni, half jalapeño and mushrooms. Unfortunately, the mushrooms were canned mushrooms, and don't seem to cook very well compared to fresh. The pizza was very tasty and we brought a lot of it home. The pizza shown is a medium. The menu states they have Coke products, but they have Pepsi products. The wine was pretty good and reasonably priced. We had the Merlot. The service was decent. They were slammed and the staff seemed kind of tired. The staff were attentive and trying to work well together as a team. The ambience is fine. Comfortable seating. Nothing to write home about. All 3 service staff didn't want to be there from the Hostess, waitress and busboy. Waitress forgot my glass of wine and what Italian restaurant is out of all red wines? Bruschetta was terrible and not cooked properly, Pizza was practically cold and not cooked enough. House salad was drenched with dressing and almost was a soup, greens were turning brown, so not fresh!Condescending tone throughout the whole meal by the Older Waitress.
