Well my worst complaint is high prices for services and oil. Secondly some CS are not helpful-could be better. Some are good. Otherwise okay. I would suggest you shop around. Talk to people. See who has best plans and prices of oil. And immediate response to any problem 24/7. Always available to assist. What is needed 12 months of year. And always always polite. It is not too much to ask. They need you the customer. Don't forget it they do. read more

I have been a Petro customer since 2015, when I purchased my home, and I have stayed with you for my heating oil and boiler service because I have valued having a company I could rely on. I also purchase your oil lock pricing and service plan, so I pay for the additional security and service that comes with being a loyal customer. Unfortunately, my recent experience has become extremely frustrating. Over the approximately 11 years I have been scheduling annual boiler tune-ups with Petro, **three appointments have been canceled by your company**. That is roughly a **27% cancellation/rescheduling rate**. Each time, I have arranged my work schedule around the appointment. I have taken time off from work and have either lost vacation days or used sick time so that your technician could come service my equipment. It's bad enough that Petro requires customers to work within a **four-hour service window**, but to then have the appointment canceled or rescheduled after I have already taken time off work is infuriating. Today was particularly frustrating. I called Petro at **10:15 AM at 508-835-3791**, while there was still enough time for me to potentially get my vacation day back. I was told that the technician would be there toward the later end of the scheduled window. At **10:52 AM**, I received a call telling me that the appointment needed to be rescheduled. By that point, I could no longer recover my vacation day. I understand that unexpected circumstances can happen. However, this has happened three times, and the impact is not insignificant. When Petro thanks me for my loyalty, I expect that loyalty to be reflected in the level of service I receive. If Petro schedules appointments, you need to have enough technicians available to complete those appointments. Your staffing and scheduling problems should not become the customer's lost vacation time, lost wages, or inconvenience. I also want to be very clear about where I stand: **I am now spending my remaining vacation day looking at other oil companies because I cannot continue dealing with this level of unreliable service.** I pay a premium for Petro's service, including the oil lock pricing and service plan, and I expect premium service in return. Right now, I am receiving substandard service. I would appreciate an explanation of how Petro intends to address this problem and prevent it from happening again. have been purchasing oil from this company for the past two years, and they refill my tank once a month. In January, during the winter season, I purchased oil at $3.69 per gallon. However, as of February, I noticed that the price had increased to $4.69 per gallon. When I called to understand the reason for this increase, I was informed that I am on a Flexible pricing plan and that this price had been anticipated under that agreement. However, based on my research, no other company appears to be charging such a high price per gallon at this time. Although I requested a price adjustment, I was told that they could not assist me and that I am required to pay this amount. I do not receive any other services from this company apart from purchasing oil. The significant price increase without a clear explanation has made me feel misled. Beware of the Petro Oil Co, they force Oil sales on Senoir citizens. The last 2 times I ordered oil they came again the following week each time therefore doubling my oil purchase and obviously the bill. I ordered what I coud afford and they came and doubled it, I do not have extra money like that. I called them after the first time the gentleman said it was ordered by their computer. He said I was on automatic delivery so I said take me off that, he then mentioned I will have to check my oil and see when 1 need more, I said I already do that. The call ended. The next time I needed oil I called and ordered 100 gallons, the following week they did it again to me and deliverd me anotherextra 100 gallons which I did not have the money for. I called them again and said they did it to me again but I did not have the money this time. I said it would take me an extra month to pay that because my house taxes etc took Precedence. I was told I was still on automatic and I told them over a month ago to take me off that they the womansaid they can't do that and I have to stay on automatic delivery, so I said fine you still have to wait for payment and do not deliver any more oil to my house again because it would not get paid for at all. I am retired and my income is limited, companies like that think if they can forcibly deliver oil to customers that they have to pay no matter what, I did not order, authorize, or was informed of an upcoming delivery so I do not feel obligated to put off my other bills to pay them for another surprise delivery. I think I will put in an official complaint againist Petro. So they will get paid only not as fast as they want, and also their prices are one of the highest around for oil. I decided to turn on my heat and was very surprised to find that it did not work. The property manager for my building suggested I call Petro for service. I was very happy, as they are open 24 hours so the repairs were done on the same day I called. The HVAC tech, Pete508, had to keep climbing up and down 3 flights of stairs, from my apartment thermostat to the main heating system. Pete did so without complaint. Terrible service! They have run me out of oil 3 times. Then take days to show up. They apologize right and left and then it happens again!

They love collecting their payments when its warm and sunny out. Once the temps drop they will leave you hanging in a 50 degree house for three days waiting on oil delivery. They string you along with "we will have a delivery out today" but won't show up because they "ran out of oil". Horrible company and completely mismanaged! read more

BEWARE! Definitely check with other companies before proceeding with this one!!! I was a loyal customer for 4 years and decided to check competitors pricing and realized I was paying almost double here vs. the competitor (no exaggeration- for both oil and propane). When I discussed with a supervisor they claimed competitors have hidden fees, but in reality, it's Petro who has the hidden fees. Charging almost $400 to have 24/7 service and the oil/proprane prices are INSANE. It's actually borderline criminal they get away with what they charge customers. Additionally, when I called to cancel they wouldn't even work with me to remove the propane tank because it had just been filled they only gave me $1.00 off a gallon and are still going to charge me $150 for removal of the tank. Customer service was nice, but then you chat with the supervisors and they talk down to you and reiterate exactly what the customer service team says to you and don't help with any incentives at all to have you stay. My biggest complaint is high prices for oil delivery. They rope you in with a $125 new customer rebate credit the first fill up. Then, get it all back the next auto tank fill up charging almost a dollar more per gallon then their competitors. And no discount when over 150 gallons. So beware, nothing is free with them. The service and delivery guys are polite and good at what they do. The "back office" has serious short comings. I have run out of oil for the 3rd time in a year with single digit temperatures on the way. As has happened each time, they promise a delivery the same day and then tell you later they can't make it. They then state it will be there tomorrow. Last time I ran out, tomorrow was 4-5 days. Unacceptable. I am now stuck buying diesel in 5 gallon increments to keep my home warm. The delivery manager is unavailable. I never experienced delivery issues until I switched to Petro 2 years ago. Prior to that we never ran out...80+ years, with multiple company's and no issues until now. Petro is not able to service all their accounts and as such I cannot recommend them. read more

I have been with this company for over 30 years since it was GlenMor Oil. My son bought a home, and I told him to use Petro which was over 5 years ago, he also purchases the service contract each year through them. He lost his heat last night at 9:00 and the temperature outside was 24 degrees. Petro told him to reset the burner, that did not work. Petro said they would send someone the next day to look at it. My son called another plumber out of pocket, the problem was his tank was out of oil. When he told Petro about the problem they told him he should have 1/4 tank! The techs that I have spoken to over the past few years are very good, this sound like a management problem that is making Petro less dependable. read more

Petro oil company, with locations in NY and a middle eastern country, violated an ongoing contractual relationship providing for a predictable cost for oil delivered to a system with two 330-gallon tanks. The price structure is based on the price of oil at the port of NY (NYMEX) as of the close of business on the day prior to delivery. The reduction in deliveries was due to the size of the deliveries. The ratio is 2.4-1. The deliveries also resulted early morning (first delivery of the day) enabling improved driving for the delivery vehicles with drivers commenting on same. The last delivery was charged at a substantially different price violating the ongoing agreement. Documentation of the last five or so years is available to the company, but they have expressed no interest in fulfilling their commitment. The price for the most recent delivery was 2.2238 (port of NY NYMEX) as of March 6, 2025 close of business plus a fixed add-on of $.60. The total per gallon is $2.8238. The total price for the delivery of 447.7 gallons is $1,264.22. With an existing credit of $31. The amount due is $1,233.66. on the contract. Petro unilaterally demanded nearly $300 more than the agreement in place without notice. This difference is approximately $.67 per gallon over the agreed upon cost. Payment was offered several times but refused due to apparent confusion on the part of Petro. Petro has violated a long-standing contract without notice thereby violating the agreement. While one person appeared somewhat conversant with the matter, the "Customer Retention" management was utterly ineffective in addressing this matter. Front-line telephone staff were the only individuals available for discussion of the matter. Since this is a contractual agreement issue, it is appropriate that they are consulted directly. So the moral of the story is one of honesty and competence. Despite attempts to resolve the issue at hand no progress was made due to the intransigence of Petro. Since 12/24/2018 we have purchased a new heating system and two air conditioning systems from Petro. We paid (approximately $20,000) more than the market costs for these three systems since we had reasonable customer support. The only humor in this situation is that the "customer retention" group bears sole responsibility for this fiasco. The existence of "customer retention" is a new phenomenon. While I have a 32 year relationship with Petro I can no longer recommend them as a supplier of home heating oil. Corporate changes from afar have negatively impacted the corporate relationship with customers. My elderly Mother and I have been customers since Atlas Glenmor was the business. For the second time this season, we have completely run out of oil even though we're on an auto delivery plan and have been for decades. We were also assured when this happened last fall that deliveries would be more frequent to avoid this. That time a tech took 12 hours to come. This time 5. The tank has to be primed when empty, and we have no heat in currently 29°F weather. This feels like enough cause to break this year's contract, but no matter what we will not be renewing. We have a 1 year old central air system that Petro installed. It stopped working this summer. They have scheduled 6 appointments, I have stayed home from work 6 times, through a cluster of their scheduling errors, parts being ordered that are not programmed properly it still is not fixed. Last Friday 9/6 they called and emailed me to say the new part was in so we agreed that the tech would come back on Thursday 9/12 between 8-12. I just got a call on 9/12 that the tech is in training and will be here between 12-2. This training has been scheduled for "months" - so why did they schedule this appointment? And why didn't someone call me before I took another morning off from work? Save yourself the frustration, and look to a different company to service your air conditioning and boilers. read more

Unreliable deliveries while on AUTO DELIVERY, multiple times. Letting us run out of oil in the dead of winter, then CHARGING us an additional fee to check the oil is running after they let it go empty. Funny how my auto PAY is always on schedule. They always take my money on time. This time I was scheduled for auto delivery last Thursday, called on Monday because they never showed up, no show on Monday, no show on Tuesday, I call Tuesday afternoon and I'm told the driver ran out of oil before he got to my house, but I'm on the schedule for the morning. Called this morning (Wednesday - 6 days after original scheduled delivery) and was told I'm on the schedule for today before sundown. Now an hour from sundown, 8 gallons left in my tank, I just called for the third time today and told they'll deliver today. I doubt it. read more

Beware of there service plans. I have the cool guard plus plan for my home HVAC which is 350$/ year . My central air stopped blowing cold air and a technician came out and said it was the condenser which is not covered under the service plan . Ok so when I got an estimate I was quoted 9500$. I then asked for a 15% discount because on the service agreement states " This plan gives you a 15% discount on regular rates for any repair not covered under the service plan" the sales department said because this part is not part of service it's does not qualify for the discount. My argument was that is not what I understand when your plan states that anything not cover under service plan is discounted. He replied that's my fault for signing up for the plan. read more

You need to reach out to them. Then they quote another time and call back and say that they are now running late again. Get ready to waste a whole day waiting for someone to show up! Started calling for emergency services as our furnace won't turn on at all. 11/15/22 Called for the first time at 7:30a and the phone message said there was a 20 minute wait to leave a number and I would be called back. I did and called again at 8:30a when I did not get a call back. I stayed on hold for 40 minutes waiting for a representative when the call was just cut off. Around 9:30a I decided to call the sales line instead of the service line and an actual person answered the phone. She said a repair person would be to my house between 4p and 7p today. It is now 8:50p and no one has shown up or called to say they are running late. I have called the service line again for an update and yet again no one answers or returns calls. It is 55 degrees inside my house tonight. They used to be a great company, if you are looking for an oil company, don't look here. Updated 11/16/22 we are now going onto our 3rd night with no heat. Petro is now saying they showed up at 6:30p tonight and no one was here to let them in. We have not left our house for more then 48 hours at this point at least 1 adult has been in the ice cold house since the first call. We have now been taken off the list to get our heat fixed because apparently their techs lie as much as their office staff. Our next scheduled visit is now 11/17 @ 9a. Another night with 2 children with no heat because of the tech who wanted to go home to his warm house. I will update as to whether or not the show up tomorrow. I was wary when my local oil company was bought by Petro but have been pleasantly surprised by their services. I had issues with my boiler and they were promptly responsive. The techs that have serviced the boiler were pleasant and informative. I then reached out to Petro for a quote for mini splits ( my third quote) and they were less expensive and had electricians so I didn't have to find one on my own. From my first interaction with Steven Smith sales to the plumber and electrician signing off on the one day installation it has all been positive and exceeded my expectations. I am so happy that I decided to go ahead with the install and given the perfect timing my house has stayed comfortably cool during the extreme heat. We used Petro for a year or so, they delivered oil fine. We then needed them to come troubleshoot out Mini-Split A/C system, had appointments booked 3 different occasions, they would show up late, then say they needed a full day to work on it and reschedule. Then the next appointment they would call and let us kow they had an emergency call and we were being rescheduled, even though my wife or I had already taken a day off to be home for them. So this happened several times and I finally called them and said just close my account, you guys can't seem to keep an appointment. We had a $350 service contract that was to be canceled, and refunded, there was a $300 balance for oil delivery, they were going to credit us $50 and apply the $300 to the oil bill. it's been SIX WEEKS, and they still have not closed our account, and keep calling us telling us we have a balance due. This company does not have all their ducks in a row, DO NOT use them with any confidence they can get any job done, at all!!! read more

For two days in a row, Petro gave us an appointment window of time and did not show up. For the first day, they kept moving the time to later and later and then it had to be moved to the next day. On the second day, the same pattern emerged. They say they are responding to emergencies. Ours could be heading into emergency territory but not quite yet--and this is why we needed the service visit...i.e. if the problem is not attended to, it could very well become an emergency. I don't know if they charge more for emergencies but if they do, that could explain their lack of prioritizing our need for service. Very disappointed and will not be contacting them again read more

Watch out for them. I was a customer 20 years and they have treated me terrible the last 4 months. They could care less if you are struggling and ask for extra time to pay, they refuse delivery if you have a balance and they give you the run around. They first said I can pre pay min 100 gallons then today said 150 gallons and found out the canceled me as a customer. Some other personal things I don't want to share publicly but watch out they will scam you. My ceiling price with them was $5.09 and today I got oil for 3.67 from a better company and pre paid. No issues. Look at other options. This is just a big company being greedy and does not care about their customers. read more

The AC in my HVAC system was out on 7/1. I contacted Petro Services and was told they wouldn't be able to schedule anyone to diagnose until 7/12. Fair enough; it was during a heatwave, and I'm sure they were busy. The tech did show up on schedule, and after diagnostics were done, he informed me I'd require a part that was not in stock, but they could order it. He assured me someone would call. After not hearing from them on 7/14, I followed up that day, again on 7/18, and finally on 7/20 without an update on the status of the part's location. At that point, I cut my losses and went with another service. Terrible follow-up and communication. read more

This company loves to price gouge its customers . In the contract it states that my ceiling price 4.59 but the problem is they always charge the ceiling price . Currently prices are about a dollar less but they continue to charge the ceiling price . To top it off they try to trap you into the contract with a 399 cancelation fee if you try to leave . Don't fall for this scam and avoid this company . You are better off not being in contract so you can at least shop for the best price . read more

Probably the worst oil company I have ever dealt with. Told them numerous times to stop delivering oil to my home and they kept delivering and racking up ridiculous bills. Don't buy any package from them because they will never come out and service when you need it. The customer service people are nice but can not make any exceptions. But local oil the price is much cheaper. Update: How many times is the business manager going to apologize before something is done. Actions speak louder than words read more

Very disappointed with this company. Signed an initial agreement that included a free service plan with provided. The plan included ceiling price plan that guaranteed the price was guaranteed to remain 10 cents below the Massachusetts weekly average price. Year two (2000 -2001) was stated as a renewal contract, to which I agreed, with a free tune up and a ceiling price agreement. Received a delivery and noticed it was pretty high and at least 40 cents a gallon over Mass weekly average. I called and asked why it didn't align with the Mass average and was told that this years contract didn't include that ceiling. I asked why I wasn't informed when I agreed to the renewal contract. Was told there was a flat ceiling price instead. Of course it was 2 cents below their ceiling price of $2.98 gallon. Called a few local oil companies and their prices were no higher than $2.10. The free tune up resulted in the need for a new air cleaner and same numbers as last year and told I needed a new system. I won't renew. read more

Petro has absolutely horrific customer service. I've never been talked over or yelled at by a customer service professional, but it's happened twice with Petro when I've called them because I didn't have heat or when they'd billed me incorrectly. I used Petro and their predecessor company for ten years, combined. They repeatedly left me without oil - at least once or twice every winter. Before about 2018, they were really prompt about refilling when the tank ran out, but in 2021 and 2022 they left me without heat or hot water in the winter for more than two days in sub zero temperatures on separate occasions. They also continued to bill me for their service contract even after I had terminated the oil contract. I would strongly advise anyone considering Petro to use a different oil company. read more

We have put up with Petro's high oil price because we figured it was better to use a large company. They have been responsive in topping up oil. The last two times though that they topped up oil, our oil furnace stopped working. That is when the ongoing nightmare began. We have a service contract with petro. Do NOT use them for service! When the oil furnace stopped working we called them. The process is EXCRUTIATING. First you have to listen to an add for a minute. Then you are always told that they have higher than norma call volumes. Always. We have called them tens of times now and it always "higher than normal" call volumes. Then they cal you back after anywhere from 5' to 2 hours and you get a person on the line from a service center. Each time it is someone else. They gave me an 8 hour service range and when I called them back after 6 hours (and have to go through the call process again), they just tell me that my service is after the time slot they asked for. In our first call we emphasized that we have an old relative who is sick staying with us and that our call is urgent. The call center says "they will make a note of it" but nothing ever happens as a result. When the furnace technician arrives, each time it is someone else. And each time they replace a part and charge gouging prices. A pump that at Home Depot costs $97 was charged at $501!! The furnace broke down consecutively on 3-4 days so clearly it is the same problem, but every time another part is replaced. Each technician has blamed the fault on the previous technician leaving a piece missing, or pinching a cable. And throughout this there is NO ONE TO TALK TO. The call center folks are different every time and have no clue what you are taking about. It is. Simply. Awful. Do NOT use these guys!!! read more
