They have lots of stuff. But the bird section is particularly disappointing for a couple of reasons. First, they don't have stuff they should have. You'd think, with an in-store sign proclaiming what's good for your bird, that they'd have those things. Generally only one two out of three. This time: no cuttlebones, which is specifically what I came here for. Second problem: they DO have things they probably should not have. Like birds. Maybe the little ones are popular enough that they won't be here long. But a larger and more expensive bird, like a conure, is much more for a person to consider, and probably should not be in a store like this. This bird craves attention, is very unhappy being in this little enclosure and was pretty bothered when I had to walk away. read more

My issue with this place is only with the grooming...it's terrible. The store associates/groomers are nice but they did or DIDNT do to my pup is what irks me. I setup my pup's grooming online which was nice and easy. I picked a time right at opening hour. My expectation is that she'll be in and out cause she doesn't need much grooming, she's not that type of breed. What I believed was a groomer lady came out and asked what I wanted done and she gave me her recommendations too and was told an hour to hour and a half. Hour and a half later I call up and they still didn't do anything with my dog. Now I understand there was 1 other person there before me in line but still not having groomed my low maintenance dog...so I was told another hour or more to wait and so I did. Again called back and was told she was next in line...so far I've wait about 3 hours and I was without a doubt the 2nd person in the groomers line with a low maintenance dog. All that you needed to do was a simple cut, clean the paws and cut her nails...you're telling me that within that time frame that couldn't be done? So I waited yet again and I finally got a call back within 30 minutes saying my pup was ready. Picked her up and from a quick glance she looked good and obviously smelled good but upon further inspection outside at the park, the cuts they made weren't even and you could see it within the sunlight. They also didn't cut the hair between her paws like we had discussed. Dunno why it took 3-4 hrs but I'd highly stay away from this place when it comes to dog grooming cause they butchered my pup's first "haircut" read more

I am writing about Petsmart's online ordering, not a particular store. I made a pretty large order of cat food and litter. When I received my order I noticed that there were two boxes of cat food missing from the order. At first I thought that they may come later because that happens from time to time. However, when I went to my account, I noticed that those boxes were canceled, not by me. I called the help number as was on hold for a half hour before someone finally came on the line to assist me. He told me that they canceled the order because they were out of stock. I told him that I was not told that information. Furthermore, if I wanted to order them again, he couldn't guarantee the food would be in stock, even though according to the site they were. In addition, if I ordered them again, the shipping would cost more than if the boxes came with my larger order. He didn't offer to waive the shipping. I told him that he just lost a customer. I am better offer ordering from Chewy or Amazon. read more

I very much prefer coming here over going to the chaotic Petco down the street at Union Square. I take my dog here for nail trims and the staff here is much nicer. I called in a day before to ensure walk-in appointments were possible. The person who answered the phone was very polite and friendly and suggested I come in the next day in the morning. I came for a walk-in nail trim at 10am on a weekday and Cheyenne was amazing! She was super sweet and friendly and made my dog's nail trim experience painless and fun. No bleeding, no screaming, just sweet cuddles and positive energy. read more

Pros: Major plus is that they price match!! Just look up the policy on PetSmart.com. The prices at this manhattan location otherwise usually much morexpensive compared to amazon.com or chewy.com. Petsmart does seem to often have sale items like holiday specific toys. Conveniently located. Right by madison square park. They offer grooming, training classes, daycare, and self-wash. Restrooms (for humans) are downstairs. Cons: I'm not a fan of how this register line is setup; it's confusing. I wish they did a free puppy play kind of like Petco, as I think it would bring in a lot more business (seems to work for Petco and getting people to sign up for classes). Unclear how the rewards system works. I think Petco has more coupons generally. Petsmart has you pay $20 for their puppy starter coupon book. Petco offers it for free. If you book your next grooming appointment when you pick up your dog, you get something like $3 off. read more

Took my dog there for a bath & full haircut, after 2.5 hours I still didn't get any phone call so I went there to check. They told me during this 2.5 hours they only have the bath done and it will take another 2 hours to get the haircut done. So I only pay for the bath and went home. Later today I found my dog's nail is badly injured!!! THEY DID HIS NAIL BUT DIDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE INJURE!!!!! Came in around 5.30pm so maybe the were rude because it was late jn the day. Hoever that doesn't make an excuse to be rude to a paying costumer. I usually come for the good prices for my cats and og dog. They have a good selection. However the staff in there are so rude, I have barely encountered a helpful and positive staff going there. The manger rolls her eyes if you ask her to double bag the dog canned food, which obviously break in a single paper bag. And she don't want to return your stuff so you can get you member points, which they in the first place forgot put in before the sale. And then you have the other male employee who checked you out, but is lying about asking you for your member number. Wouldn't recommend going there, I would rather order from Amazon or Chewy. This review is for Doggie Day Camp. We wanted to love Petsmart day camp but we couldn't. Staffs are friendly, I would give them five stars. However their day camp is not up to standard. My dog has gotten sick from there 3 times since she attended the day camp. The vet diagnosed her with Kennel Cough (an infectious disease spreads among a group of dogs) for both times. My friend's dog got Pneumonia after their dog stayed here. As of today, 5 months after my dog's last visit to Petsmart day camp, she is still coughing after many rounds of medical treatments. She had to get x-ray to check her lung and all the tests. The vet bill was very expensive. Another reason that I don't want to bring my dog back is that, they don't walk dogs. So everyone will go potty inside the play room or in their cage. After a few visits, my dog was completely un-potty-trained, and started to pee in our apartment. I won't recommend Petsmart day camp to my friends. read more

We took our bernedoodle there for his summer haircut and bath. Eloise was excellent. It was the first time I saw my dog go back with another person willingly. He had a few tangles on the back legs but we asked to do whatever is possible to save his fur. When we picked him up a few hours later I was so happy to see our furry buddy with the best haircut he has ever gotten. I would highly recommend Eloise as she did a terrific job! read more

** This review is for "self service" dog bathing only. ** Late yesterday I took my dog Teddy to the self-service bathing section that's downstairs. The price is $20 plus tax and includes shampoo, conditioner and hairdryer. I decided to try this as a "back saver" to avoid leaning down in my bath tub to bathe Teddy. The self-service area itself is nice - it's large, comfortable and clean. The equipment looks modern, with instructions that are large, clear and easy to follow. However, while the equipment is easy to use, it's HARD TO CONTROL. The shampoo, for instance, cannot be regulated. It comes out when it wants and stops randomly as well. Same thing with the conditioner. Half of the time I didn't know whether there was shampoo or conditioner coming out and had to stop/start and play with the settings. The worst part of all was the dryer. First of all, it's difficult to figure out how to use it since the knob is "hidden" below a metal cover. Once a staff member showed me where to find the adjustable knob, I went to work. Even the "low" setting is super strong, to the point it freaked out my dog. The worst part, however, is that the air came out COLD. The attendant told me that the air comes out at "ambient" temperature, which yesterday meant freezing. My dog loves the cold but was actually SHIVERING while I tried to dry him. He also whined, which he NEVER does. I spoke with a staff member, who offered to dry him for me for an extra $7. She told me that their hairdryer is even stronger, and also uses ambient temperature to dry. [So....I'm going to pay extra $$ to have a stranger inflict even more discomfort on my beloved dog...behind closed doors where I can't see what's going on? Don't think so.] Overall this $20+ experiment was an epic failure and I have no intention of trying this DIY beauty parlor. I suspect the crappy setup is designed to have people give up the idea of DIY grooming and instead using PetSmart's onsite full-service grooming. Finally, the staff did not seem sympathetic or empathetic of the negative experience. Quite frankly, they did not seem to give a %@$#. read more

Me and my roommates got our beta fish Crystal here! We've had her for about a year now and she's still doing great. At first we got a tank with a filter but it kept getting dirty and we'd have to clean it every week (defeating the purpose of a filter). We switched her to a regular fish bowl and now we only have to clean it once a month. read more

They really need a better system for their supposed "walk in" grooming services. I called ahead to make sure they had time to do a nail trim for my dog, they said they were free all day until 4 PM and then when I arrived with my dog they said they were fully booked. I would love to be able to make an appointment for a nail trimming but that's not even an option because it's a "walk in" service, the whole process is infuriating. read more

I've brought my dog here for grooming four times. The first two times were great with Brianne. The third time there was a different groomer and he came back Very unhappy and itchy. His appointment yesterday was the last. When I made the reservation by phone I specifically asked for Brianne and express service. With express service it costs more but your dog is out within 1 - 1.5 hours. I came in at my appointment time and waited 15 minutes for someone to come out. Then I got a different Brianne who did not interact well with my dog (first time this has happened. I brought in my own dog shampoo because of his itchiness the prior time and they wouldn't allow it. what ridiculousness is that? My dog is apparently allergic to their shampoo and they refused to use one he's reacted well to his. My dog was so unhappy when I left him I felt like I was abusing him. She said she has too many dogs scheduled , which u I dont understand why i cant just wait around until its my dog 's turn. I was in the area and my puppy needed some dog food. I use Merricks, which Petsmart has just started carrying. This location is on the corner of 24th and Broadway. Citi bank was in this location but has since moved next door. The store is pretty big and rather neat and does not smell. It has two levels and there is a lift rather than an elevator. I was greeted by a nice associate named Keyva. She helped me use the lift to the Lower level. And on this second level is a self bath section for owners to being there pets in. I thought that was nice because I drop.my pup off for grooming at another location. The store was not too crowded I was able to get the item I needed and check quickly. They have a good selection of brands here and I've been picking out some new foods for my cat to try before I make a recurring order online. The thing that bugs me about this store is the weird checkout line. First the line wraps around the cashier space and it's not obvious where to line up so while you're waiting in line you have to tell other customers who are trying to checkout before me (because the way it's built it's really not obvious you're waiting in line) Secondly even with only one person being served ahead of me it's taken me a really long time to actually get served. Quite a busy location and a bit of a wait for the checkouts. Not overly friendly but know what they are doing and a good working attitude from the staffs. If they aren't sure if something they will usually guide you to someone who can. Quite a few different style, colour, sizes for many different items and products. If you want to return something especially online purchase you need your receipt. Decent quality and prices. A easy location to find and walking distance to bus stops, yellow, and green line. Will not be returning. They told me 930 on the phone. Then when I got here at 936 they said my appointment was 9am. Then they told me oh well your groomer isn't here yet. So I waited and didn't get to drop my dog until like 10:07/10:10am. So the groomer was an entire hour late. When I asked to speak to the manager to make a complaint they argued with me instead of trying to make it better. Extremely poor customer service. Do not recommend this location. read more

I went in looking for the Burt's Bees Paws and Nose Lotion for my dog. I checked online and it said there were a few left at this location. There was not. The shelf was devoid of all Burt's Bees products except for dog shampoos. As I was trying to locate this item, I noticed quite a few employees about: some restocking shelves and others milling by the cash register. There was one employee I passed by 3 times as I circled the store looking for this lotion and we made eye contact. He clearly saw my head swiveling around searching for something but he didn't offer any assistance, quite different from PetCo Union Square where there's usually a greeter by the door and where the employees working the floor ask if you need any help as soon as you walk past them. read more

I was cat-sitting for an owner who didn't buy any additional cat litter while being away for 2 weeks. I had to come in here to buy litter but unfortunately they were out of the brand my client's cat uses. An employee suggested I order it online because "our online system is actually very efficient and plus it'll save you from carrying the cat litter home from here." Buying via petsmarts.com was one of the most regrettable thing I've ever done. The cat litter box was apparently damaged and was held at the shipping center without any expected delivery dates. I placed the order 14 days ago...still not here and the tracking site STILLS say "no expected delivery date." Was on the phone with customer service the other day and the person I spoke to offered no compensation. He literally said, "well, you can ship it back when it gets there and then we'll refund you." I was infuriated and explained to him the severity and inconvenience the company had caused me. After putting me on hold for 10 minutes, he finally agreed to refund me and allow me to keep the cat litter when it arrives. If this was for my own cats, I wouldn't have been this annoyed. But when you're using your client's credit card and taking care of somebody else's animal, the responsibility is doubled! It's never a customer's fault when your warehouse can't properly secure and ship cat litter. Should have offered compensation up front for a paying customer who had 0.00000% fault in this. My bad, maybe 10% fault because the biggest mistake I did was ordered through you guys instead of amazon or chewy. Will continue to shop at petco and petsmart but never again online. Some staff members are helpful and positive. But then you have some that avoids to help customers. One gentleman was working restocking i ask for assistance to adopt a pet he goes away I'm waiting over 20 mins he comes back with more stuff he probably had to complete a task for I'm standing here waiting trying to find someone. Then someone else pop up told them I've been standing her waiting I was told okay hold one he had to get something. Guy was annoyed and had a little attitude because what I said. I calmly kept my cool and waited to adopt the pet. If you don't like to deal with customers then don't get a retail job that's that. read more

If you place an online order for pickup be sure to check and make sure you have everything before you leave the store. I've had items missing, other items substituted and, on my last visit, they neglected to give me a second bag (though why everything in my small order was in two bags is a mystery) so I had to call Customer Service twice to get a refund. They also gave me a can of cat food that was crushed in three different places and food was seeping out of the top. On the plus side, the prices are great. Just be careful. Very sloppy. read more
