Ava was amazing !!! My buddy and I went in to buy a Beta Fish and as we were walking through the isles, she's was gracious enough to notice we we're lost. She was so helpful in guiding us in the right direction and extremely knowledgeable about any fish related inquiries we had. What really blew us away is that she hand wrote out a step-by-step guide on how to integrate our new Beta into its new tank and a reference guide for cleaning and feeding. I don't go to PetSmart often, usually just when I need something really specific, like today, when I learned I could give cuttlebone to my snail (who knew?). Luckily, they had it in stock, along with the cat food I needed for patio cat -- not my cat, mind you, but a cat who's claimed me. Their cat food selection is seriously huge, almost overwhelming. The store was clean, and I was greeted right away with a genuinely cheery "Welcome to PetSmart," which I appreciated. The same employee was super kind on my way out and even chatted with me a bit about snail care. That little moment made my day. That said, I did notice what might have been a pricing discrepancy between what I saw online and what was marked in-store... could've been my mistake or a mix-up with another store, so I didn't follow up on it. Just something to keep in mind. I always get a little heavy-hearted walking past the animals. One bird was sitting in a bowl and didn't seem thrilled, and some of the bettas looked a little sad. I try not to focus too hard on that part, but it's hard not to notice. Overall: clean store, helpful staff, good selection. It's a corporate pet chain, so you get the usual trade-offs, but I left with what I needed and a nice interaction to boot. read more

I had two very different experiences with the PetSmart grooming salon in Scottsdale. The first time I brought my dog, the staff were friendly and asked how I wanted the haircut. They showed me a photo of a style with slightly longer hair on top of the head and a nice contrast between the head, body, and tail. The result was adorable and I was very happy with it. Because of that, I decided to bring my second dog. When I called to make the appointment, I was told to bring the rabies certificate and that I could easily get a copy from the veterinary clinic next door if needed. However, when I arrived for the appointment the next morning, I was told they could not take the dog without the certificate and that the clinic did not open until 11. If that had been mentioned earlier, it would have saved a wasted trip. Later that same day, after getting the certificate, I stopped by again since I had been told dogs could sometimes be taken after 3 p.m. The salon was empty, but I was told they were fully booked. That may have been the case, but the interaction felt quite abrupt. The following day I returned for the grooming, but the haircut ended up looking very different from the first dog's style or the photo I had originally been shown. When I asked about it, the response was fairly dismissive and there wasn't much acknowledgment of the concern. My first visit was great, but the second experience felt unnecessarily inconvenient and somewhat unfriendly. I hope future visits are more consistent with the positive experience I had the first time. read more

Petsmart is a one-stop shop for pet supplies. Items were in stock. August has an interesting mix of summer and fall items. No tricks, just treats. Halloween inspired items to delight people and their pets. Small pets are for sale. They had fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and rodents. They also have live food such as crickets. Employees we encountered were friendly. They all asked before petting our dog. They then proceeded to spend a couple of minutes petting her. This location is unique in the Phoenix area in that it has a Humane Society pet adoption facility inside. While it is common for Petsmarts to have cat adoptions inside, the Humane Society has dogs and cats. Humane Society was giving out coupons to be used at Petsmart if an animal is adopted through them. In addition to pet adoptions, this location has the typical grooming, daycare/boarding, and vet services. read more

I haven't been back to this PetSmart since I experienced racism from an employee there. I was humiliated, degraded and most of all, I felt unsafe. A customer should never have to feel that way. I reported it to the corporate website and never heard anything back. Plus, my mom spoke with the manager and his solution was to have my mom confront the racist employee. In other words, he felt my mom should also be made to feel unsafe and uncomfortable. I hope others never have to feel this way just for existing in a space with brown skin. PETSMART OLD TOWN SCOTTSDALE INJURED MY DOG PART 2. to continue... clarissa asked if i wanted the banfield vet to look at rocker right then, i said if she can do it now, sure. she came back a few minutes later and said it would be 15-20 minutes. by this time i'd gotten him to his feet, but he did not look well, and i could tell he'd had enough and just want ed to go home. i told her we'd come back tomorrow , because he's scared, hes obviously hurt and i wanna get him home and comfortable. she said ok, to call later to set it up.( remember i said prior to this he could get into my car and up on my bed by himself) we slowly walked to my car, him limping the entire way, when i opened the door he couldn't even remotely come close to getting in on his own, i had to pick him up and put him in the car. got home, had to lift him out of the car, but he was able to walk slo nwly into the house, to my room where he sleeps on my bed, and again, he couldnt come remotely close to getting up there, again i had to pick him up and put him on the bed. to this day , about 8 mos later, he cannot get in the car or on the bed on his own, he could before that appt. i called set up the exam for the next day..took him , he was seen by a fill in vet, who couldnt really get a good look at him,, because he locked his leg so tight she couldn't manipulate it at all to get a good look at it. so we rescheduled. next day took him in for xrays, didnt get results for a few days,,almost a week later when they were supposed to be that day or the next at the latest. during this time , he's walkin a tad better , still has a limp, still needs my help. their results show arthritis which we were aware of ,but couldnt really see anything on the acl. they prescribed some meds for him, and that was about it. couldnt see where they'd injured rocker. i said i don't think they created a new injury, i believeg h they made a preexisting injury worse. during this time i had talked to an asst mgr apparently, wanted info,and after talking to my vet, i wanted petsmart to pay for an mri etc...as their neglegence, as told to me in great detail by groomer clarissa,caused this. he said he couldnt just put down a petsmart credit card to cover it and i'd been referred to an advocate and would hear from them in a day or two. weeks went by and i didnt hear from anyone , kept calling and getting nowhere. then i talked to the store mgr whatshisname, this guy is a first class a******, rude, arguemenative, yelling, just a terrible attitude and a liar. you heard me. after going over everything and my telling him his groomers or the stores neglegence caused the accident that hurt my dog, this guy had the audacity to say"we don't know there was an accident" .what?????? i said yes we do! clarissa told me all about it and she was clearly very upset about it. he said "that doesn't mean anything." i said so clarissa lied to me? he said " i didn't say that." i said ok, so you're saying i'm lying. he said "no, didn't say that" he then went on to explain that these kennels are very large and heavy and therefore even if the wheels were unlocked they're "virtually impossible" to move. again, his words ,not mine. i said well thats what clarissa told me, i didn't even know there were kennels back there let alone had wheels that required locking. how would i know this if she didn't tell me?? he had no answer. again hes yelling, hes rude, beyond borish. said there was nothing he could do, i said i didn;'t believe him and he very rudely asked if i wanted his boss to call me. i said yes, he said he would have him call me by the next day. and of course in keeping with true petsmart fashion, he did not. weeks went by , no word. i was furious, they hurt my dog, did not wnat to take culpability or acknowledge their part in it. so, i started doing some research found out they had a new ceo in ken hicks, got his contact ph number,called and left him a vm about the situation. guesss what?? ken didn't call me either. sense a pattern folks? but afew days later i got a text from their district mgr Jamie holloway. we played phone tag for a couple weeks and finally spoke. we discussed it, he said he talked to clarissa who said" yeah rocker just basically slipped, no big deal". i said well idk what to tell you, when i saw her, she ran to me, she was pale, visibly upset, shaky and panicked...very concerned etc. her first words were "i'm so glad you're here" ,. he said well she wasnt upset when i talked to her, i said oh shes calmed down.... A COUPLE MONTS LATER, WOW. funny how that works. he went into the heavy kennel thing ,etc,he said there vet said rocker was "walking fine" .?? how would she know? she saw him once in a confined space, she doesn't know how he walks normally. and no , he wasn't. and that hed have his team look into it and get back to me. i told him i disagreed with vet assessment, i didn't say they injured him or cause a new one --to be continued pt 3 read more

I enjoy shopping at petsmart as it's close to my home and they always have what I need it stock. But I don't think I can morally support shopping here anymore as there are always multiple dead beta fish in the store. They need to be better taken care of and not be kept in small plastic cups it's inhumane and cruel. read more

I absolutely recommend anyone with a doodle to go to Braylah in the grooming salon. She's groomed Finn twice now and he looks perfect every time. Since my dog has long hair he did have some mats but she educated me on how to prevent them and is super thorough and takes her time when he gets groomed which I appreciate so much. I adopted my new family member, Baby, a few days ago after a high pressure pitch from the volunteer while the animal had Bordetella. The store will not give you medication, but instead a number to VCA to schedule a complimentary appointment, but in the meantime, while the animal is in your care and when the appointment starts, you have sole care of a sick pooch. Baby was ok the first and second day, but slowly became more and more lethargic, and his nasal mucus is turning green. Its thick and crusted over now. He's now wheezing, and VCA can't get him in until Monday, which is such a disappointment because i told the volunteers to keep Baby til his meds were done, and then i would pick him up. The volunteer then guilted me into taking Baby, and trivialized this disease, which can actually spread to humans! My daughter missed two days of work because she has a mysterious "cold" within hours of bringing Baby home. He's sneezing, coughing, wheezing, and not eating. He had a fever yesterday, and now my daughter is sick. It's an inhumane way to treat animals, when a dog whose sick should even be adoptable until he's better, because isn't PetSmart and the Arizona Humane society's goal to preserve the lives of Arizona animals? I wish I could give this store zero stars, but I really do love, Baby. read more

We travel a lot so I decided an aquarium would be just the fix. TJ, a very knowledgeable and helpful pet expert, assisted me for the last two days with putting together an amazing 10 gal. Aquarium. Tropical fish that glow, a frog ( a surprise for the hubby we used to have frogs in our 1st apartment) and even a moss ball lol! First time grooming my rescue and I was a little nervous. The groomer seemed very nice and my dog took to her so I felt more at ease when I left. I was told the appt would take about 3 hrs, I asked them to give her the works! In about an hour they were calling that she was done. When I got there it seemed like they trimmed her paws a little and shampooed her. No brushing or trimming areas I asked for and don't think they brushed her teeth. Took my dog to this PetSmart location for a bath day. My dog got a bath, teeth cleaning, nail trimming, etc. However, for the past 2 times I have taken her here, they have not given her the finishing touches that I paid extra for which included a pet perfume to make her smell nice and a bandana as well. Overall, my dog still came out looking fresh, but I would appreciate them doing every thing in the package that I paid for. read more

I want to be able to give better reviews. We arrived at 8 am and waited while they attended to an animal. I took us 30 minutes to get checked in while the techs in grooming trimmed a dogs nails. We were VERY specific that we did not want our miniature goldendoodle to have the standard poodle look, which is EXACTLY how they decided to trim her even though we were very precise. They did amazing with our Corgi, but did not listen to a word we said about the female. The doggy day camp was AMAZING. Daycamp is A+++++++. Groomers - epic fail and will not be returning. Once we are home, we will get out our clippers and spend the 2 hours grooming our little lady the way she should be done. Word of advice - if you want it done properly, do not go here. read more

I used to be a fan of the grooming department. Not anymore. After not hearing from the groomer for six hours I called to get an update. They told me it would be another 20 minutes and they would call me when ready. After 45 minutes I decided to show up in person to find out what was going on. I went into the grooming waiting area to find nobody there. I called out to see if I could find anyone in back. Nobody heard me over the sounds of dogs barking anxiously. I had to find another employee in the store to go and find out what was going on. I was told that everyone was busy giving dogs baths. Finally the groomer came out with my dog. When I complained to the manager she told me I could pay extra for express service...I said that paying $85 for grooming should not mean my dog has to sit in a cage waiting for 6 hours. I just took my chocolate lab to PetSmart's grooming location at DC Ranch for a nail trim only. They were all so welcoming and great with my dog, especially since he was a bit nervous (had not ever been to a groomer!). They did an awesome job in record time and the cost was beyond reasonable. Would give this 0 stars if I could. DO NOT GET YOUR DOODLE GROOMED HERE. I religiously brush my golden doodle with professional tools so he does not have to be shaved. It's super high maintenance but it's totally worth it. We brought our dog in yesterday to Sarah B, and she completely botched our dog. She confirmed herself that there were no mats on him, after thoroughly checking him. We asked for a teddy bear cut with shorter ears, hand scissoring on the face and a half inch trim around the body. For some reason she shaved his face, his snout is completely unblended, jagged, and one side has a chunk missing out of it. She shaved down to the skin behind his ears for no reason, and down to the skin on his arm pits for no reason. My baby looks completely messed up. We asked for teddy bear and we got raccoon. Went in there today to look at kittens. I asked a girl who had short hair if I could see them, and she acted like she was bothered by me asking. She just said yeah rudely, in 5 min and walked away and went into a room. Never came back, so I left. The extra star is for the girl who was outside taking donations for the arizona humane society. I did sign up to donate every month. I just hope they find a better place to keep their kittens so they can get adopted and so people don't feel like they are being bothered asking to seem them. read more

Do not use this place's pet hotel! They abuse/neglect the animals. I promise you will regret it and even possibly want to sue them. When I picked my 18 month old dog up after a week of lodging, he both was skin/bone and had chemical burns on his private area. I asked the people at the desk what the hell happened and they then explained how the chemical burns were from the cleaning supplies they clean the floors with at night. WTH?!?!?! I spoke with another kennel property and they explained to me that the PetSmart location probably used regular bleach instead of the correct and much more expensive stuff. We purchased a puppy from someone who was clearly not a good breeder. He was tiny, obviously infested with some bug and too young to be away from his mother. So that's why I took him. I knew I could take care of him and they were going to sell that puppy to someone. Anyway I headed to pet smart for puppy formula and a heated bed. A young girl (Angelica I believe). who works there saw me carrying this itty bitty puppy and took him from me, carrying him straight back to the vet. I am not a moron and knew much of what the vet had to say before hearing it. However the entire team took an interest in the puppy, essentially doing a free vet exam and helping me. They gave me advice and confirmed what type of bug he had - mites that they couldn't exactly identify. Over the coming weeks I returned frequently and everyone was and continues to be extremely helpful. Roscoe had his first grooming appointment at this persmart a few days ago. He's about five months now. The appointment didn't really go all that well, through no fault of the groomers. Roscoe is too wiggly and playful. They were extremely cool and did the best they could. I was impressed and we will return when he is a little less insane. All in all, this is the best pet smart I have ever visited. The staff makes this big box giant feel like a local small town pet shop. We love it. read more

Shout out to Angelique and Chelsey - both employees made the recent Santa visit weekend a success. The wait times were an hour on Saturday, but Angelique did a great job of getting the pets and owners in and out and was able to get most dogs to look at the camera. On Sunday, Chelsey was also very good at the same tasks. Santa should have a bigger throne next year and be relocated out of the PetHotel area to ensure quiet and less distractions. read more
