COMBO Organic Plant Based Veggie Grill and Spicy Bolivian Pasta Vegan Saltena Plate
    Amy G.

Hidden vegan gem in North Beach! SF really does vegan restaurants well. The combo plate was delicious, hearty, and savory - didn't feel like vegan food at all! I was absolutely stuffed afterwards. My friend had the empanadas, and said it tasted like a pot pie (in a good way). The kale chips are an absolute must try. They were crispy and cheesy and addicting. Would also come back here to try the reuben and corn taco, so curious about the raw menu! Sangria was also great and so was the mango cocktail. Very fresh but no frills at all. Just good drinks. Restaurant was quiet on a Tuesday night, just a few tables inside so it was quiet, but felt like a friendly neighborhood joint. The tables are close together, but we ended up chatting to our neighbors about the food and how we ended up choosing to eat there. Servers were very sweet as well.

Came here from out of town on a Thursday only to find out that it was closed for a private event, which was a bummer. Got takeout the next day to try the organic raw vegan sampler and I thought that it was just OK. The Reuben and the tacos have the same filling with the pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce so they didn't really try to differentiate the flavors to the respective items. I wish there was more creativity and innovation with more dehydrated items rather than just serving me a simple salad that I could make myself. The best thing in the sampler were probably the kale chips as they had good flavoring and umami. everything else was just meh and I wonder if I ordered the wrong items. I will say that everything is really healthy so that's a plus.

My partner and I went to this restaurant for the Valentine's Day event. The music and experience were absolutely amazing. They did traditional Latin dances and even had the crowd join in at the end. I would rate 5 stars just purely off of this. It was my first time and the show ran from 8:45 PM - 10:45 PM. The reason I rate 3 stars was first, there was a lack of clear communication about how to order food. We were given menus and were able to order drinks from it, but when we were ready to order food the server mentioned it would be buffet style. But somehow that wasn't communicated well enough and it left me confused. Next, a woman server came to us with a platter and we denied it because, again, we weren't communicated with properly about how our food was going to be served. We thought they had delivered the platter to the wrong table. The server walked away confused. My assumption in hindsight is that we'd be served a platter first. Then we'd get food from buffet and finally the dessert that they gave us at the end. Finally, we paid $167.48 for the reservation itself for two people. As you can see in the photo I provided we were charged $158.00 for the reservation and $9.48 for taxes and fees. But when we received the tab for the actual dinner we were charged $13.43 for "Taxes on Prepaid Tickets". But we were already charged $9.48 for "Taxes and Fees" when we initially booked the reservation. A mandatory gratuity was in the bill as well, which is fine. However, the gratuity mentions it's for "total amount of drinks" but also for "Prepaid tickets". So our dinner bill was $78.68. This does make it seem like we were charged three times for just the prepaid tickets themselves. Once when booking, once included in gratuity and lastly on the taxes on the dinner bill. So our experience + food ran us at $246.16. And we were still handed a tip sheet in case we wanted to give more. I usually wouldn't tip much for buffet style food since we are expected to serve ourselves and the servers were kind but nothing memorable enough to give an extra tip. Whether I'd come back is questionable. I would for the traditional dance experience but I'd stay away from the Valentines booking. Maybe on holidays they cash grab a little harder. I'd be happy to change this to a five star review if someone from the restaurant reached out and explained the pricing better to me.

Where do I start? Well first off my girlfriend and I were visiting San Francisco and what brought us to try Peña Pachamama was neither of us have tried Bolivian food and were curious and we were so excited because they're vegan so it was a cool experience to try food we haven't had before that we could also eat and enjoy without any worry that there may be animal products that aren't listed! We first tried to go on Thanksgiving day (silly mistake) because we had seen online they were open come to find out they weren't and the owner kindly told us they were having their own private family dinner but to come back the next day and so that's exactly what we did! We came back the next day and what a fun dinner experience, not only was the service great, the food was incredible and probably the best meal we had while visiting the Bay! They also had live music that was beautiful and infectious, I was bobbing my head while eating and there was belly dancing and samba and it was a great night! The owner even recognized my girlfriend and I from the night before and came over to chat and invite us back! Will definitely be coming back once we visit again, I honestly would go just for the empanadas for a quick bite if I lived there, but everything is worth a try here!

    Lentil Dip with Plantain Chips

Owned by the couple that lives upstairs, this gem should be kept close to the chest and enjoyed with close friends only. Celebrating the Bolivian cuisine on its' menu, Pena adapts their dishes to cater to a plant based diet as well. Ambiance With live music and white table cloths, come early for amazing food, and stay for the private show and dancing. The versatility and intimacy makes the space alluring. I went with a large group and they were fully ready to smash tables together to serve our group. Service Attentive and quick paced. The staff are willing to accommodate the patrons' needs with no fuss. Food The Lentil Dip was so so so tasty! Super filling for a small dish I split with my partner. The Chicha Morada was a little to cinnamon forward and didn't have enough citrus for me. A little bummed the $7.50 16oz glass didn't satisfy. Will definitely return for those nights of North Beach debauchery. Highly recommend!

Wow. Just WOW. My friends and I walked in to a wonderful speech by a husband to his wife. The feels were there. An intimate little restaurant with live music and dance. The food is all vegan and there are plenty of GF options. And everything is just phenomenal. Highly recommend the platter so you can try a variety. The lasagna was just a must! The horchata was also really good. Creamy and not too sweet. The brownie with ice cream is delicious! It is heavy on the coconut, but it will convert you. The founders is the restaurant were playing life music. The environment was so comfortable and inviting we got up to dance in between courses.

Reuben, BLT and Corn Taco Combo

This cozy vegan restaurant was such a brilliant find! Especially as its roots go for decades in the SF area. We came in right when they opened and everything we ordered was so fresh and delicious! Their customer service went above and beyond as they answered every question we had with such knowledge and grace. I loooved that they had both cooked and raw vegan dishes. The empanada was cooked to perfection and the filling was infused with so much flavor. A must get! My favorite had to be the Reuben (BLT) and Corn Taco Combo! It was a raw dish that transcended every expectation. The pumpernickel bread and sauerkraut combination left me craving more and the corn taco was sooo goood! They have live music as well which we didn't get to enjoy but we'll definitely be back!

Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 10/5 (absolutely spectacular ambiance!!) VIBE: - live music on fridays and saturdays 8-10pm!!!! the owners predominantly play Latin music - it's so small and intimate and has become my favorite restaurant in SF - patrons are encouraged to DANCE - I'm just a huge fan and this place should be on your SF bucket list - GREAT for a date night - make a reservation if you can :) FOOD: - all plant based vegetarian/vegan - the best vegan food I've had in a long time - white chocolate vanilla cheesecake (5/5) - COMBO organic plant based veggie grill and spicy Bolivian pasta (5/5) - vegan sáltena plate (5/5)

    Rachel F.

Good, unique food with a fun atmosphere! Everything is cooked with the best oils and ingredients. Even the venue itself has extensive history! We got the plantains w black beans, chefs special plate, and the burger. I was a bit underwhelmed with the plantains and black beans, but the portobello mushroom on the chefs plate was amazing! I don't know how they do it but it was so tasty. While the food was good, ultimately, it was just too expensive for what you get so I had to give 4 stars.

Since this is near the Civic Center, spots are limited, so public transit is the best way to get here! Inside was very aesthetically pleasing and inviting, with the windows stretching up the wall to the ceiling, and a modern bar. At that moment, we weren't really looking for drinks, just bites, so I do not have any opinions yet on their drink selection. We ordered the "crab" arancini, which came with jackfruit, lemon garlic, salsa macha aioli, and guajillo, and the barbacoa nachos. The arancini was okay, and did not stand out as much as I would have liked. The panko crust on it was on the thicker side, so it had a bit of a harder exterior, but I will say I did like how well the jackfruit was incorporated and added depth to the dish. I wish that I could taste a bit more of that lemon in the lemon garlic. The barbacoa nachos were delicious, and I liked how they paired the nachos with jalapenos and pickled onions for a nice flavor composition. The jackfruit blended well and added some savory, "meaty" flavoring to the dish that worked. Overall, for a restaurant that specializes in vegan food, this was a great choice! I thought the service was great as well, and they were very accommodating to our party when it came to dietary needs, which is always appreciated.
