I came on a weekday evening with a group of friends. One of my vegetarian friends' favorite restaurants is Enjoy Vegetarian. It was pretty quick to find seating, and the atmosphere and decor reflected a classic Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. The staff was quick to take our orders, refill water and tea, bring us our food, and ask us if we wanted forks instead of just chopsticks. Otherwise, it was standard, okay service. After ordering, the food slowly came out over 5-15 minutes, starting with some appetizers and then the mains Much of the food was decent, even the faux meat dishes tasted similar enough to real meat. Their fried walnut prawns were ok, plenty on the sauce and walnuts, but the faux prawns themselves were just fair. Their crispy fried chicken (not actual meat) was super crispy and close enough to the real thing. Their ma po tofu was great, hot, and spicy. The spinach and pine nuts fried rice was sublime, and while pricey, I would recommend it. We actually got two mapo tofus and two fried rice dishes since they were that good. If you're a vegetarian or love vegetarian Chinese food, I would recommend this spot! Overall it was a good experience to try and I can see some folks be regulars

Hands down the best vegan chinese in San Francisco. No joke. Come hungry, leave satieated. I wish they were all as good as enjoy.

Decent amount of seating. Mostly tables for four. Not very busy Wednesday at 12:30. Large menu selection though they didn't have fragrant crispy chicken anymore! My usual go to indicator, not very many Asians but likely not applicable here. Eggplant and string beans in black bean sauce with a side of rice. A bit salty for me. Nice enjoyable meal. SF pricing appropriate. I finished off the whole plate. Very extensive menu so plenty of future possibilities. Based on this meal I would try again.

When it comes to Chinese tea restaurants, I'm better off dining in plant based eateries such as Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant. The Chinese staff members were going strong several years since my first visit. Despite not having enough customers, the interior of this vegetarian tea restaurant didn't need additional renovations. I had to finish eating quickly so that I meet up with my dad and go home together peacefully. Therefore, I ordered the Singaporean Style Rice Noodle plate. Other than the five-spice curry, I liked how faux meat strips looked and tasted like barbecue pork. Hopefully Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant sticks around for quite a while. Our big city have lost few of the best vegan restaurants. Might be back to try many other plant based plates.

This was the worst vegan Chinese food experience I've had in Chinatown. I've visited many small, quaint spots in the area over the years, but I would never return to this one. The service was extremely disappointing. Our server was noticeably rude to us, yet smiled and was warm toward other guests who came in after us and were not people of color. It made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. In hindsight, the fact that the restaurant was empty should have been a sign. Unfortunately, the food was just as disappointing. The "crispy fried" spicy tofu was soggy rather than crispy. The green beans with soy beef were also soggy and covered in a dark, overly sweet sauce that was simply inedible. Overall, the restaurant felt cold and uninviting. I would not return and would not recommend it.

I last reviewed Enjoy in 2016. Recently my beloved and I went here for dinner. Friendly service. Simple ambiance. We ordered family style getting the Veggie Deluxe Chow Mein Noodles which came with ample portion with plenty of veggies. We had steamed dumplings for our starter which were very tasty with a simple dipping sauce. We also got an order of crispy tofu with salt and chili peppers that was delicious. All in all an enjoyable meal. We will be back!

The extensive menu always impresses. Especially loved the imitation pork dish we ordered and the hot and sour soup. Service is fast too at this no frills authentic eatery. Great place to enjoy some authentically cooked Asian food- but vegan!

I would come back for the Singaporean fried noodles. The curry flavor and the "ham" was such a good combo, portion was good too and was not too oily. Veggie duck was good too I liked that it had shiitake mushroom bits in it as well. Servers speak cantonese/mandarin and got our food out all at once which was nice. Lots of seatings and a nice place to eat with groups and talk. They do close at 8pm which is quite early.

Ask the Community - Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant

Are reservations necessary? Planning on going there Monday night.

No reservations needed (or taken, as far I've seen.) They have plenty of seating and serve tables quickly.

    Are there vegan options?

Almost everything here is vegan. The few non-vegan options are clearly marked.

Can we byob??? Do they serve alcohol??! Asking for the boozers out there?

No alcohol and no outdoor drinks. However, there is a tea place right next door that you can order from; Enjoy has their menu.

Do they have high chairs? What about changing tables in restrooms?

Pete, I'm not sure, I don't recall high chairs or changing tables, but they may have. They do appear to have a fair number of families. Maybe give them a call?

Anyone have their catering/party tray pricing?

So our relationship is 50% vegetarian and it was the other half's birthday so after seeing an Insta…read moreabout the mushroom, I said "heck yeah". Bought my tix online and waited for the day to arrive. I included the offspring and +1 for the event. Got there early and found parking basically in front, a miracle in SF. Doors opened at 5:02 and we were greeted by the chef and staff all dressed in green like the Jolly Giant of commercial fame. The tables were decorated with flowers sprouting from funny shaped radish and turnip "pots". Did I mention that the dinners have been called whimsical......... So it begins. We got two juice pairings and two alcohol pairings and both were really interesting. The local Chardonnay on lees and the martini were winners in the alcohol category whereas celery ginger kombucha and citrus drink were rulers of the nonalcoholic category. Some refills were provided, yeah! First course - Miso celeriac soup with foraged herbs, walnut dill bread with kumquat jelly and chive butter. Rich and tasty soup with great bread though two smaller pieces would have been better than one large to enjoy the spreads. Second course - Lacto-fermented beets, roasted carrot, little jellies with spicy carrot salad and hummus. Everything was unique with interesting flavors and consistencies. Loved the little jellies made with agar and the carrot salad, Wow! Third course - Mushroom and beet pub pie over purple cauliflower béchamel. Amazingly flaky vegan puff pastry, don't know how they did that without butter. Filling was earthy and savory complemented well by the béchamel. Dessert - a selection of citrus based seasonal treats including chocolate, little cake balls, candied kumquats and aquafaba. Not just great for being vegan but actually a triumph. First time trying aquafaba and it really tasted like a light, neutral whipped cream. Big fan of the candied kumquats too. They even stuck a candle in the birthday girl's bowl and led the obligatory serenade. Overall a fun experience that reflects Alex Lauritzen's passion for vegetable based cuisine, taking it fully to the fine dining level but doing it with joy and whimsy. Staff and service were attentive. This was the eighth mushroom with dinners occurring once a month. They may also do pop up a La carte service but I'm not sure. Check the Insta @the mushroomsf for deets. We left pleasantly full so no post-Michelin pizza

The paneer butter masala was finger-licking delicious, and the naans were fresh and soft--they didn't even get chewy when cold. The chaats are a delight, especially the onion kachori chaat. The absolute highlight, however, was the dessert that shares the restaurant's name: Jalebi. Fried in ghee with real saffron and made fresh to order, it is the most delicious jalebi I've tasted in the whole of the USA. The hosts are a lovely couple running a family-owned business, and they truly have a calling for hospitality. When we visited right around closing time, they were still running around for hungry customers. Even when they had to turn a group away at the door, the wife immediately offered to pack food to go, bringing smiles to everyone's faces. She always finds a way to serve her customers. For food we got the following: -Dahi Sev Puri - this was my favorite dish, really fun to eat and great flavors. -Chole Bhature - this was also great! The puffy bread was sooo delicious and the chickpeas were perfectly seasoned and delicious. -Bhel Puri - this dish was unique and was a good size portion, but not as flavorful as the other two dishes. It felt like eating a savory rice crispy cereal, but not in a bad way :P -Garlic Naan - pretty decent but nothing special -Jalebi - I was really excited to try this dessert. I looooved the texture (crunchy outside, with a gooey inside) but the actual flavor was not my favorite. To me, it tasted very similar to chlorinated water, and it was hard to get past that.. There was a different jalebi with a dipping sauce, and I wonder if that would have been better. They were out of it when we went, but I would try it again with that. Overall a really great restaurant, and definitely a place to try out if you're wanting a more unique Indian dining experience!
