We tried Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant in Chinatown for lunch on a Saturday and had higher hopes going in based on the menu. Walking in I wasn't sure what to expect because it looked pretty run down. I wasn't expecting fine-dining, but the place didn't have a welcome feel. We were the first table in when they opened, but unfortunately the service felt a bit cold from the start. Our server seemed disengaged, which set a less welcoming tone for the meal. The food was just okay for us. Our kids enjoyed their spring rolls and "chicken" nuggets, which were an easy win. However, the entrees we ordered were quite salty and didn't have much depth of flavor. Afterwards, we realized they don't use garlic or onion, which would have been helpful to know ahead of time since it really affects the flavor profile. We recently visited Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant in Chinatown San Francisco after not coming back for over 10 years, and unfortunately the experience reminded us exactly why we stopped coming. We understand Chinatown restaurants may not always provide "fine dining" service, and honestly we were not expecting that. But the attitude from the short-haired lady server was extremely unpleasant. While we were still ordering, she already looked impatient and annoyed. We had two elderly people with us, so yes, we needed a little more time to order, but the restaurant was not even busy. What made the experience worse was that the staff were loudly chatting back and forth in Cantonese the entire time using rude language and gossiping nonstop. Customers come to enjoy a meal peacefully, not sit there listening to staff complain and bitch about things across the restaurant. The atmosphere felt uncomfortable, unprofessional, and stressful the entire meal. After this visit, we definitely will not return to the Chinatown location again. read more

Service kind of ok but disappointed on server or owner of restaurant add tip on and not inform us. We almost tip her double $30. She asked us anything wrong of course I told her. I came on a weekday evening with a group of friends. One of my vegetarian friends' favorite restaurants is Enjoy Vegetarian. It was pretty quick to find seating, and the atmosphere and decor reflected a classic Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. The staff was quick to take our orders, refill water and tea, bring us our food, and ask us if we wanted forks instead of just chopsticks. Otherwise, it was standard, okay service. After ordering, the food slowly came out over 5-15 minutes, starting with some appetizers and then the mains Much of the food was decent, even the faux meat dishes tasted similar enough to real meat. Their fried walnut prawns were ok, plenty on the sauce and walnuts, but the faux prawns themselves were just fair. Their crispy fried chicken (not actual meat) was super crispy and close enough to the real thing. Their ma po tofu was great, hot, and spicy. The spinach and pine nuts fried rice was sublime, and while pricey, I would recommend it. We actually got two mapo tofus and two fried rice dishes since they were that good. We politely asked if we could switch it, and the waiter immediately responded, "No. That's all we have," in a rude and dismissive tone. There was no effort to check, offer another solution, or show any empathy. We understand if there aren't enough high chairs available--that's not the issue. The problem was the attitude. Families with young children already have enough to juggle, and a little courtesy goes a long way. Instead, we were treated like we were an inconvenience. The Chinese staff members were going strong several years since my first visit. Despite not having enough customers, the interior of this vegetarian tea restaurant didn't need additional renovations. I had to finish eating quickly so that I meet up with my dad and go home together peacefully. Therefore, I ordered the Singaporean Style Rice Noodle plate. Other than the five-spice curry, I liked how faux meat strips looked and tasted like barbecue pork. Hopefully Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant sticks around for quite a while. The service was extremely disappointing. Our server was noticeably rude to us, yet smiled and was warm toward other guests who came in after us and were not people of color. We ordered family style getting the Veggie Deluxe Chow Mein Noodles which came with ample portion with plenty of veggies. We had steamed dumplings for our starter which were very tasty with a simple dipping sauce. We also got an order of crispy tofu with salt and chili peppers that was delicious. Took a few bites of the soy sauce chicken and decided she was full My mom is from Hong Kong and greatly enjoyed it I've moved to a place that has minimal Chinese food so this was a treat. Always very delicious and clean. I esp love the wonton soup and shark fin soup. All the soups lol very friendly service and close to the parking garage. Prices are fair to high. They will add gratuity to 6 or more, and that's fair. It's only 18% though, and I always tip 20-35% depending on the service- unless it's automatically added, and then I just sign and leave what they think they deserve. So, they did lose out of the extra tip, which would've been material due to our bill being high. As a former industry worker, I'd learn to read the tables better before automatically adding it. I used to do better by not adding it myself. Ppl almost always tend to be more generous. Any seasoned server or bartender can tell when you have to add it to cover yourself, but I'd suggest not doing it across the board. When it's auto added, it's a turn off bc then I know you didn't trust me to tip correctly, which I do take as an indirect insult. There were over 100 dishes on the menu, so Enjoy does not shy away from getting creative. The food was enjoyable and service was great. I didn't realize this was a sot down dim sum venue. hmmmm. We ordered two different types of fried rice: the curry fried rice (3/5) and the spinach and pine nut fried rice (5/5). Both were flavorful and tasty, the curry fried rice was well seasoned and had chunks of soy meat that tasted like a cross between duck and spam. The spinach and pine nut fried rice surprised me with how good it was!! I loved the crunch the pine nuts provided and it was surprisingly flavorful if a bit too salty. Chili oil wontons (4/5) were a hit and had a mushroom filling. The fried tofu (3/5) were nothing to write home about, just pretty decent fried tofu. And finally: we got the spicy tan tan noodles (2/5) -- it's okay. The spaghetti noodles were overcooked and was only saved by the pairing of chili oil and peanut sauce. read more
