I was excited to try Phat Bites after reading the reviews. Everyone was spot on from the decor to the food. I chose the spicy Dijon turkey sandwich and my husband went with the Big Jerk. The spicy Dijon is no joke. I had to scrape some of the Dijon off, but still thoroughly enjoyed it. The Big Jerk was a crowd pleaser as well. We split the mozzarella and tomato salad...it was ok. We got two iced coffees to go and the flavor was phenomenal. Chocolate rocket fuel is the only way I can describe this delicious cold brew beverage. I got a dab of almond milk in mine and my husband chose to wait and add some bourbon cream from his stash. Both were delicious. Highly recommend grabbing some iced coffee on your way out to keep you going. Next time I will definitely try a wrap..somehow missed that menu board when ordering. I love most of the salads and sandwiches here. The Flippin' Tuna Salad delicious AND healthy. The Caprese Sandwich is my go-to: it's very flavor-filled with pesto and balsamic vinegar. However, more than once I've ordered on-line and they have not had my order ready. I only do that when I'm going to a meeting, so there's a time crunch. Today, the order wasn't ready, I was charged for the on-line order, and the sandwich maker paused to discuss her issues with a friend. Beyond frustrating! Outstanding! I've eaten here for years and it's always consistently great. The only negative is that they don't have air conditioning, so we can get a little uncomfortable for me temperature wise. NO! Just no. Last week I was in Nashville visiting a friend for my birthday and Thanksgiving, which was the next day. I was staying just around the corner on Cliffdale and it was Sunday after Thanksgiving and Phat Bites was supposed to be open until 2 am. The place is totally dreary and I should have turned around and left - dark, damp and ominous. To his credit Tyler the bartender was cheerful and attentive. I had 4 house drafts in those little cheap plastic cups you get at keg parties. 4$ each. I ordered two wraps to go. I went to the restroom once and to pick up the food once. This was before 10 pm. As I started to exit about 10 pm, the two gals to my left told me they wanted to buy me a shot for my birthday. I told them I don't do shots. They insisted. In the meantime 2 African-American fellows pulled up bar stools behind us. Not sure who they were or who they were with, since the bar was virtually deserted. I joined the girls for a half shot of Proper 12. Next thing I know, it's nearly 2 pm the next day! My host told me I was beyond hammered and we needed to go get my car! Someone called her from the bar to come get me. WTF?! Bottom line: I was "roofied." Senior man, from out-of-town, picking up everybody's tabs, flashing money, new car.......it took me two days to recover. I don't drink liquor or wine. If I started drinking whiskey at sunrise, I couldn't have been this fucked up!! Avoid this sleazy place. It is a freak zone. read more

A single acoustic guitar and singer. Food was fresh and made to order. People nice and the place was hoping. Went with party of six and there was a line to order and we were fed quickly. The food here is always top notch. The spinach feta hummus is my favorite hummus on earth. The salad selection is vegetarian friendly and the sandwiches are delicious. The craft beer selection is great and features a lot of local brews. So with all of the good things out of the way, let me tell you about the service. When you walk in, it's set up deli style and someone takes your order over the counter. The last three times I've come the girl working looks so lost and confused when I talk to her that I'm unsure of what exactly is happening. She tries to cut my order off three different times before I'm finished, can't form complete sentences, and the girl working alongside her just doesn't speak to us at all. I don't care if you're stoned, just make sure you're a functional stoner at least while you're on the clock. The barista was great and gave us an espresso with heavy cream that someone else didn't want. The associate making our salad was bright and friendly. This place was recommended by a local photographer in the area. We waited 30-35 minutes for our food! We noticed the people that walked in behind us got their food first. When we asked about our food they said I thought the other girl placed your order oh wait I have your order! There was clearly some confusion. Finally we get our food we had a big salad and a little tiny ranch cup that was 1/3 full. We asked for another cup and he gave us another cup 1/3 full. Not sure why they don't fill the cups up with dressing? We decided to eat inside but you would have thought it was outside with all the flies swarming around. Would I return here? Wasn't great..I was so hopeful because I liked the aethetic and the place was relatively busy/had good reviews. But I was very let down. They advertise hot and cold sandwiches, which I guess I got both since the shredded turkey on my bread was ice cold while everything else was oddly warm on the Jake V. We ordered 3 items, 1 came out after about 15 minutes, then another in 5 minutes, then another we had to take to go because it took so long. My sandwich was bland and super dry. Way too much stuff on tiny pieces of bread, if I took a bite I only got 1 or 2 of the ingredients on my sandwich (which consisted 98% of shredded lettuce/ unseasoned shredded turkey and 2% the other 6 or so toppings). It was messy and I could barely keep anything in the bread. "Pickle" on the plate was much closer to a cucumber still taste wise. No sides included with the price. Boyfriend got the buffalo chicken sandwich and couldn't eat much of that either. Had to go get a second meal somewhere else. Maybe we will try again for the bar or something. I won't be spending much on food there though. Update: our friends were in town and wanted to try it for breakfast, so we went in with them. They spent more than 20 minutes at the register before they even took an order (not including the wait in line), hair in the food, terrible service, did not get the correct food they ordered. This place is the grooviest spot in Nashville, and it has INCREDIBLE food. Fresh, local ingredients, and all made in-house. Service was the friendliest and most efficient I've seen anywhere. Everyone went out of their way to make sure people were happy, with warm smiles and a relaxed, chill vibe inside a refurbed mechanic shop. My daughter had the Teriyaki Cowboy sandwich which was ridiculous good. The other sandwiches at our table were also huge hits. But the crowning jewel, if you ask me, is their deli case full of innovative salads and about eight flavors of hummus. Everything I ordered was fabulous. I had the Chinese chicken salad, cashew barley salad with carrots, guacamole lentil hummus, and Greek salad. Cherry tomatoes were fresh from their garden. The flavors were phenomenal. The food is pretty tasty, which is the only reason they got 3 stars. They massively changed their menu from what it had been, and I wasn't super impressed with the changes. They were kind enough to let me order something from the old menu, but this meant that I couldn't place my order online, which was apparently a MASSIVE headache for them. I had called and placed it over the phone, only to get there and find out they hadn't even started it by the pick up time frame. Apparently their phone goes to the owner who is not on the premises, and they are not happy at all if you call it, even though this was stated nowhere on their website. The customer service is not great, and they'll chastise you if you don't order online. Then they'll give you another wait time and vastly exceed it before the food is ready. Also not sure how the staff work in there with it being so unbelievably hot in the building. It can't meet employee workplace standards. It seemed like a very disorganized setup, and I'm going to give it a break for a while before I try them again. read more

We came here for a quick brunch before heading back to Chicago. It has a very chill vibe, and filled with southern hipsters. We came for breakfast and got the Eskimo sister and the vieja tacos, and Mexican mochas. The food and drinks were excellent! Love the fresh foods, mixture of different flavors like jalapeño cilantro hummus and goat cheese. Sorry we do not live here to come more often. I've been shying away from this place for a while now because of all the mixed reviews. However, whenever I do get a hankering for some take out close to my work place for lunch, there are only fast food restaurants around, which I actively avoid (when I can). A co-worker changed my mind about going to Phat Bites - claiming they have the best hummus. Being a pescatarian/vegetarian, I do love my hummus (especially trying out different, homemade ones). So, since the first visit, I've been here at least three times - and all three times, I loved it. I tried their Tuna wrap, their caprese sandwich, and their selection of hummus - my most recent ones being chipotle and pumpkin (not together - separate hummus). The chipotle was delicious and the pumpkin was surprisingly yummy. It shouldn't work - but it does. It doesn't even taste like hummus - it tastes like pumpkin pie filling. They give you sugared pita chips to go with it - it's like having dessert in the form of protein for lunch. I'm hungry just thinking about it. The tuna was good - but it wasn't AMAZING. I loved the caprese sandwich though - that added balsamic touch puts it over the top. The atmosphere is pretty funky. It's a converted garage with graffiti and creative canvasses of art displayed everywhere. There is a small stage for live music (which, I'm assuming, happens at night because I never see anyone perform). Best of all, they play underground, "indie" music. Just yesterday, I heard them playing a song from Under the Influence of Giants - a band that dissolved but still remains a favorite of mine to this day. Service is always served with a smile. There has been a couple of times where they forget to bring you something that you ordered but as long as you remind them, there shouldn't be any issues. read more
