I really liked this place, my wife thought it was just OK but I'm writing this review so I'm giving it 5 stars. I'm just visiting Nashville from California so I'm not sure if this type of place is common here but given the music scene I would assume it would be. Vibe: a hipster/alternative vibe, slightly grungy but clean. This is the type of place I would typically spend a lot of time in. Everyone who worked there was friendly and welcoming. They had a stage so I assume they have live music some times. I went for lunch on a weekday. The kitchen smoke haze kind of hangs over the place, which is not ideal but could be fixed with an open window and a fan. Food: we had a large take out order for 8 people. I had the black bean burger, which was great. My father-in-law had the chicken Caesar wrap which he really liked. Everyone else had veggie sandwiches without hummus but realized that was a mistake and so added our side of hummus to their sandwiches which made them better. We ordered a random sample of sides, all of which were good. My favorite was the tomato and mozzarella salad but the black bean and corn salad was great also. I'm probably going to eat here again tomorrow. read more

My wife and I thought that the food was great. My wrap was tasty and fresh, her sammich was a big hit. She never likes avacado but she liked theirs. The staff were friendly and nice. Never claim that those who are hip are not friendly. The place is mucho popular and for good reason, but here are a couple of gripes: I like they have style, but I feel they should do more to improve the over-all condition of their location. Looking like a garage is cool, actually being a garage...not so much. Nothing led me to be suspicious of my food over it, but still. Maybe I'm just too old. I like chalk board menus. It means fresh and non-perpetual. It does need to be legible. Their boards are too busy to read quickly. When you're the only person in line (almost never) its ok to stare at the thing gaping until you can decide. Navigating it when busy just made me nervous. read more

Not sure where to start here. My wife picked this to eat at while I was at a conference for lunch. She picked me up and we pulled up and thought...this was odd. Walking in the environment was weird. The guy who took our order was...interesting. We got the hot and cold sweats and the JB or something. Sandwiches were good. The sides...real weak. Got potato salad and I hate to cut it up the pieces were so big. My wife got pesto pasta salad and it was noodles with pesto. The biggest issues were with the establishment. My wife went to the bathroom...no toilet paper, no paper towels and NO SOAP. HOW ARE THE EMPLOYEES WASHING THEIR HANDS. She mentioned it to the owner who handed her some napkins. We likely won't be back because it was REALLY weird and gave us an odd vibe. read more

This review will follow the theme of others. You will have to look for this place and then second guess your decision, after looking from the outside. Inside, it resembles a cross between someone's garage party room from college, a Colorado pot house/coffee shop, and a dive bar....... As others have said, service is disorganized, each doing their own thing....... Food, we ordered, the big jerk and a Reuben. It was lunch time and they were semi busy. Tables needed busing/wiped down. Took a few to get our sandwiches ( again .. they were a little busy), but they brought out one sandwich, then a few minutes later the other sandwich. Both were very good, and I was surprised at the amount of meat on the Reuben. It was a little loud, but that is what you get in an open garage/warehouse style building. Also don't expect your order to come with utensils or napkins, you will have to go get them from the counter, behind the register. I am looking forward to going back to try something else on the menu. It is a busy menu, and decisions are tough if looking at the menu for the first time ( they have a big menu board, but there are handheld menus by the register.) read more

From the outside it's hard to tell there's a restaurant inside, almost looks like an abandoned building. Inside it's definitely got a hipster, eclectic vibe. Agree with the other reviews about a bit disorganized with the crew but they were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was very good, my boyfriend had the banana bread French toast and I had the blueberry waffle. Portion sizes were pretty big, I could only eat about half of my waffles. I hated being a negative Nancy. I think this place has potential to be awesome but the honest truth is that there's no AC, and it's really hot in there... they have fans but they don't turn on. The tables are dirty. I ordered a turkey wrap and it had three hairs in it. The servers were very nice though, I got a refund which I appreciated. No one was rude, and they were very apologetic so that's why I think it has potential. They just need to clean the place with disinfectant and maybe start handling the food properly?! read more

I was in Nashville for a business trip, a lady at our hotel recommended that we go here. I had the Ninja Bomb wrap. Aside from the cool name, it is quite possibly the best wrap I have ever eaten. My coworker had the caprese sandwich, and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. I think if we had known about this place earlier, we may have gone here every day. I admit, the place seemed a bit sketchy at first. It is in a garage. But the inside was pretty cool. If you do go, make sure you check out the bathroom. Last but not least, staff was very friendly. We have been very loyal customers for the last few years, but we are very disappointed with the service level. There is no phone number to call and speak to someone about your existing or past order. If you have an issue with your take out order, you seem to be out of luck. We have had our sandwich orders messed up a number of times, and we have never been able to get a credit or any sort of resolution. We continued to order from here because we have loved the menu, but it seems the standard of ingredients and customer service has seriously declined. If you go into the restaurant and try to speak with someone, you are blatantly ignored. None of the bartenders will give you the time of day, and your order is just placed on a metal rack to pick up. Not a smile, thank you, or even a Hello. Unfortunately, I don't think we will continue to order from Phat Bites. Very disappointed! read more

The food is absolutely delicious. Every time we have been, the food is incredible. The atmosphere is very chaotic and disorganized. There are so many SMALL things that could be done to make the overall experience match the food quality. Simple things like having something to stick your number on so that when your food is ready the servers know where you are sitting. Have straws, napkins and forks stocked and available for customers to retrieve themselves because waiting to ask someone takes a long time. Simply having things straightened up instead of just thrown around would make the atmosphere more pleasing. There is a way to have the "hip" look inside without having a mess everywhere. Again, I can't say enough good things about the food, and that is why we keep returning but doing a few small things to tame down the chaos and messiness would really make this an overall amazing place. read more

Took 20 minutes just to get our order taken and it's not a sit down restaurant...you order at the counter. The line wasn't even that long. We were maybe 8 groups back. Friend recommended this place as I am new to the area and needed a quick bite and some decent coffee. They serve Bongo so thats a plus. Ordering is a bit weird, but Im sure when its busy it must make more sense. Ordered a latte, they were clear about the price of the almond milk option so that was nice. Wrap took a little longer than I would have expected with so few people eating and waiting. Wrap, the steak and portobello, was delicious. Fresh and big enough for the price. Latte was solid as well. The only thing a bit off was what I am assuming was a house made pickle that was still way too close to a cucumber to be edible. The place has an eclectic setup, mismatched everything and a chill crew. Their style was different and unique. Lots of personality in a good way. This was not my first visit to Phat Bites. I had given it several tries in the fall of 2016, stopping in on weekday mornings to work on my computer and have coffee before teaching a class. The service was bad, but the location was very convenient. Besides, I just needed a cup of coffee so I tolerated it. I would occasionally meet a colleague there but if the service was bad for one person, it was worse for two, so I just stopped going altogether. Fast forward to March, 2018, and I was ready to give it another try. The first thing I noticed was that all the staff were different. There were a few people seated when we arrived but there was no line so we walked right up to the counter and ordered. When my friend ordered a Cortado from the chalk board menu, the girl said, "What's a cortado?", so my friend changed her order to a black coffee. I ordered a latte and we sat down at a table. After 20 minutes, we still didn't have our drinks, so I went to the counter to inquire. The girl who took our order had to go back through the orders to confirm what we had ordered, then search the kitchen/prep area to find someone to make the drinks. They hadn't even started on them. She did bring them to the table, but she set them down without saying a word to us -- no apology, no acknowledgement at all or explanation of why it had taken almost 30 minutes for us to get a latte and a black coffee. Phat Bites is only 10 minutes from my house; it's mere blocks away from where my friend lives, but both of us agreed that we would not be visiting them again. I have read other reviews that mention the casual and unique vibe, and that's true. The wi-fi has always been reliable too. I don't like to camp out on a business's wi-fi, however, without patronizing the establishment and I can find any number of other places that have a similar atmosphere where the patrons are treated better. read more

Wow! I'll be burping for days. Someone needs to explain to the cooks that you should grind garlic. I've always wondered what a whole clove would taste like...now I know. When I felt it crunch I thought, oh a water chestnut. Then the burn. I had three in my food and ate them all. Tables were covered in crumbs and greasy looking. Trash was running over. Employees were sitting at desk smoking a big pipe or something, and room was very cloudy, smoky. FFS, I had a great day until I went in there. Coffee was cold. Absolutely horrible! My friends and I arrived and placed our orders. Two of my friends received their food while myself and another friend did not. We waited well over and hour and kept being told it would be just a few minutes. We watched countless orders be given out while we continued to wait and be lied to. A man that I guess you would call a supervisor came out to ask if we had gotten our food and when we told him no he said "hold on" walked away and never came back. Well over an hour later my friend and I got our money back and at the last minute they bring our food and my burger was completely raw! Stumbled upon this cafe while on a lunch break - great find!!! A "hipster", youthful vibe with the menu posted on the wall. The menu includes many innovative but seemingly tasty sandwiches, wraps, salads, and a few other goodies. I had the turkey wrap - turkey, green apple, lettuce, tomato, Dijon, cranberry mayonnaise, cheddar, and goat cheese. NO! Just no. Last week I was in Nashville visiting a friend for my birthday and Thanksgiving, which was the next day. I was staying just around the corner on Cliffdale and it was Sunday after Thanksgiving and Phat Bites was supposed to be open until 2 am. The place is totally dreary and I should have turned around and left - dark, damp and ominous. To his credit Tyler the bartender was cheerful and attentive. I had 4 house drafts in those little cheap plastic cups you get at keg parties. 4$ each. I ordered two wraps to go. I went to the restroom once and to pick up the food once. This was before 10 pm. As I started to exit about 10 pm, the two gals to my left told me they wanted to buy me a shot for my birthday. I told them I don't do shots. They insisted. In the meantime 2 African-American fellows pulled up bar stools behind us. Not sure who they were or who they were with, since the bar was virtually deserted. I joined the girls for a half shot of Proper 12. Next thing I know, it's nearly 2 pm the next day! My host told me I was beyond hammered and we needed to go get my car! Someone called her from the bar to come get me. WTF?! Bottom line: I was "roofied." Senior man, from out-of-town, picking up everybody's tabs, flashing money, new car.......it took me two days to recover. I don't drink liquor or wine. If I started drinking whiskey at sunrise, I couldn't have been this fucked up!! Avoid this sleazy place. It is a freak zone. read more

Love, love, love everything that I ate! The food was fresh, clean, and filling. The only thing that I had issues with was my chewing. Some of the dishes had a lot of different nuts in them.
