A restaurant that's a James Beard finalist should blow me away and although Phat Eatery was good, it didn't necessarily wow me. The beef rendang was recommended online, but I wouldn't get it here. The meat was in large chunks and very tough, not ideal for a dish that's supposed to be cooking for hours until tender. The roti canai was standard and the chicken flat noodles was the best dish of the meal (could taste the wok hei as Cantonese people would say). The milk tea was similar to a HK milk tea. There were three open tables yet my party of two was told to wait and we waited for 20 minutes. Will try again in the future and choose different dishes.

Really nice dining experience here at Phat Eatery. This was my first time having Malaysian food and how server was great at explaining the menu and giving recommendations. The Roti Canai with Curry Chicken Dip appetizer was amazing. Our absolute favorite of our dining experience. The Hainanese Chicken I was told is a signature dish here. It was good but I wasn't blown away by it and it wasn't bad enough to take a point away. The restaurant itself was very clean and is really cute and it has a very street vendor vibe. I definitely recommend.

I wish I could give Phat Eatery a 10/10 because that's truly what they deserve. The food here is phenomenal and some of the most authentic Malaysian food I've had. Every time I come here, I'm reminded how special it is when a restaurant truly cares about quality and flavor. My absolute favorite dish is the pineapple fried rice with shrimp, it's packed with flavor and perfectly cooked every time. I also love the honey basil wings, which are seriously addictive. Another must-order for me is the roti with chicken curry. The roti is soft and flaky, and the curry is incredibly rich and comforting without being overly spicy, which I really appreciate. It's my fave!! The drinks are great, the prices are very reasonable, and everything on the menu feels thoughtfully prepared. It's honestly getting harder these days to find restaurants that consistently serve food with this much care and authenticity, but Phat Eatery absolutely delivers. I could probably eat here every day, that's how much I love their food. If you're in Houston "Katy" and love Malaysian cuisine (or just amazing food in general), this place is a must. Highly recommend.

We had a great experience from start to finish. The food was delicious, so many options, and they had a great lunch menu for Monday-Fridays. Last but not least, our waitress was so sweet and nice! We ordered the following: Roti Canai - The roti is soooo good! Thin and flakey, but still pillowy and soft. Served with a curry like sauce but light on the curry flavor, just very savory. The sauce wasn't curry like though.. it was kinda gloopy. Didn't love the gelatinous texture of the sauce, but the roti itself, fire. Char Kway Teow (lunch portion) - Lunch portion is perfect for one if this is all you're eating. Perfect for 2-3 if you have other dishes to share. It's basically a dry chow fun, except they add in sweet Chinese sausage. They had like 3 shrimps in this lunch dish too, so not stingy at all with the protein. I liked the smokiness but I do wish they had sriracha or a spice rack as I like my foods a little spicy. I didn't ask for it though, so it's possible they do have spicy condiments. Sizzling Beef (lunch portion) - Portion size same as above. This is a very savory dish, border line a little salty for me. The presentation is real cute. They bring out a hot cast iron plate, with red onions on it, and then they spoon the beef entree from a metal container onto the cast iron so that it starts to sizzle. A little extra for sure, but it adds to the ambiance so I appreciate that effort. The bell peppers and onions were so sweet and helped to balance the sauce. The beef was nice and tender! Beef Rendang - This dish is the main reason why I chose to visit. This is only on the main dinner menu and yes it's a bit pricey, but it's a large portion and the dish is cooked well. It's basically a dry curry stew, as the curry notes are fairly strong. This is typically cooked with coconut milk but the coconut notes were very mild. While I did call it a stew, its not saucy. The beef was nice and tender but a little dry on some piece, and the potatoes in the dish held their shape nicely. They left some fat on the beef (I get it, fat is flavor) but I personally don't like that squishy texture in my meat. This is a dish worth ordering, especially if you've never had it, as it's flavor profile is quite unique. Idk if a pot of rice comes automatically or if it's because we ordered the beef rendang which is a dinner dish or what. But everyone had a pot of rice on the table from the looks of it, so it may be safe to say it comes with all entrees. They give you a real hefty serving of rice too, which is appreciated cause my BF eats hella rice lol When we packed our food to go, the server asked if wanted to pack the rice and I let her know we actually finished it. She was kind enough to give me a whole to go box of rice as well. Sooooo sweet! I made sure we ate all our leftovers too! I'm from the Bay (California) and tbh Malaysian/Indonesian food is kinda hard to find and the places that do serve it are super far from me. I was so stoked to find such a nice restaurant that not only served some of my favorites but served them WELL. Would highly recommend a visit if you're in the area and wanting something different from your usual Asian eats.

Phat Eatery in Katy has become my go‑to spot, especially since it's so close to work. The food is consistently amazing, and the Hainanese chicken is my absolute favorite: perfectly tender, deboned, and served with three great sauces. They're especially generous with the ginger, which I love. The roti canai is always soft and comforting, perfect for dipping. Reliable, delicious, and super convenient, I can't ask for more!

I wanted to treat myself to a great weekend meal and stopped by Phat Eatery, which did not disappoint! It admittedly started off a bit oddly. I entered around 3pm on a Sunday and the hostess was reluctant to give me a table and insisted on the bar, despite my visibly seeing at least 3 tables open just from where I was standing. I'm understanding of smaller venues with limited tables, I mean I lived in NYC, but when you have a paying customer in front of you, there are open tables and a request for one, and it's not a peak time, I mean come on where's the hospitality! After they called the manager, I did get a table (the one in front of me never filled up either, not exactly a busy time). Luckily, the food did make up for it. My server was friendly too and made good recommendations, although sadly the Beef Rendang wasn't nearly ready to serve. I suppose I'd have to come back for dinner sometime. I got a Lychee Sunrise to start, which was fantastic. It was too early for me to start drinking alcohol, so this worked fine. The Roti Canai with chicken curry for dipping was tasty, with the former being super flaky and delicious. The chicken in the curry was boneless, but they could've done a better job removing the skin and tendons. The curry was on the sweeter side, which worked well as a dipping sauce. The Har Gau (soft shrimp dumplings) were made fresh and delicate. It came with mustard for dipping, which was new to me, but worked very well. Now I was getting a bit overwhelmed, as like in many Asian restaurants, food tends to come out as they're made rather than timed as courses, oop. My Sizzling Tofu entree came with a generous portion of rice, with an amazing garlicy brown sauce (has minced chicken & shrimp, but they do have a vegetarian version) poured table side for that sizzling action. It was so flavorful, lots of depth and very filling. I got mine a bit spicy, which has 5 levels of spice of your choosing. Like a lot of the trendier restaurants and shops here, they do use one of those digital payment systems like Toast which some super high suggested default tips. I thought it was a bit funny as you refill your own water with the bottle they give you, but my server was friendly and gave me a show, so a generous tip was well earned.

Service was great. The roti canai, beef, sizzling tofu, and the stir fried rice noodle were yummy and came out with timeliness. Love their attention to detail and easy seating for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was clean and friendly.

This time, we ordered off their usual menu with some out of town friends. We ordered sizzing tofu, roti with two curries (beef was off menu), Hokkien noodles, beef rendang. I ordered a pandan colada for myself. I would get this drink again. It's amazing. Back to the food. This was all good for four people near closing time. Everything amazing. I would order this set again. The beef rendang does have a slight kick to it. No shrimps in this menu set because one of us has a shrimp allergy which they great accommodated for us. Tofu is a favorite! Roti was super stuff and tasty. Our server was very sweet and was actually the one who told us about the beef curry that was off menu to try with the roti. The place was clean and easy on the eyes. Parking is free and out front.

Visiting from California and Phat Eatery did not disappoint! The calamari was the star of the show, perfectly crispy and even better dipped in their mango sweet chili sauce. We also loved the roti canai, which had the perfect flaky texture. Some of the other dishes could have used a bit more spice/flavor, but they were still enjoyable overall. The restaurant was busy, but the space still felt comfortable and private, which we appreciated. Julie was our server and she was incredibly sweet and attentive! They place a large glass bottle of water on the table for you to refill yourself, but she still made sure our glasses stayed full the whole time. That extra level of care really stood out. Would definitely come back next time we're in Texas!

Award winning restaurant for a good reasons. Service and atmosphere: Outstanding service from get go. Our server was polite, friendly and very knowledgeable about food on a menu. She helped us decide on our dishes selection by recommendations. The restaurant was clean, structured, very modern and comfortable. Open bar area in the middle is very nice. Food and drinks: Delicious and well thought through dishes. Traditional selections with fragrant ingredients and seasonings. All of that gave the food authenticity test. The portions were generous. Big selection of various beverages to choose from. Pricing: $$ - super worth it and we will be coming back to dine in here again.

Everything was authentic and tasty! The chicken satay is a sleeper (matches with the sauce better than the beef satay). The char kway teow was nice and smoky but I wish the noodles had a touch more salt to bring out the flavors. The Hainanese chicken was my favorite - I could eat it all day! Especially with the 3 dipping sauces and flavored rice.

Nasi lemak is my to go order. The sambal sauce is to die for. Laksa lacks flavor. I won't order it again next time. Roti canal was amazing. Fresh and hot. And the curry dipping sauce was so flavorful

I've been wanting to try this place for some time and finally got to when we were close to the Katy area. The place is decent size, clean and has very good service. We asked our server for some recommendations and she suggested we try the sizzling tofu and the beef rendang. The tofu was excellent and came with a fried egg on the bottom of the skillet. The beef rendang was good but the beef had a lot of fat on it and so I didn't enjoy it as much. But I would come back here to try some other dishes. Sadly, they don't offer any desserts but there are a bunch of dessert spots in the strip center.

My hubby enjoyed the Malaysian food he's been missing so much. Too bad there isn't a place like this in Austin.

This place delivered where it mattered most, especially with the highly reviewed appetizers. Probably one of my favorite drinks here was the Thai Green Tea. It has a really interesting flavor that stands out from regular Thai Tea -- more earthy, but not quite like matcha (we guessed there might be pandan in it). Just a heads up: it's definitely on the sweeter side. My partner and I actually let the ice melt a bit before continuing to drink it, which helped balance things out. I came back a second time and still loved it just as much. The dipping sauce felt like a truly authentic representation of Vietnamese cuisine. It was a lightly diluted fish sauce with spicy red pepper and plenty of garlic -- simple but really flavorful. I also appreciated that the table setup let you customize it to your taste. In my first experience here, we ordered the Bánh Xèo, Bánh Khọt, and Bánh Bột Chiên. I was hands down a huge fan of the ginormous Bánh Xèo -- crispy, flavorful, and just overall my favorite (though I'll admit I'm a little biased toward it already). Meanwhile, my boyfriend completely fell in love with the crunchy Bánh Khọt. That said, I did notice a slight graininess in the Bánh Khọt, which took away a few points for me. The Bánh Bột Chiên was solid and got a pass from us, but it wasn't our top pick -- mostly because we've had better versions elsewhere. Other worthy notes: the herbs were fresh and crisp, and the pickled vegetables were refreshing as well (though my boyfriend thought they could've been a bit more strongly pickled). Eating everything the traditional way -- wrapping it in lettuce with herbs -- made the whole experience even better. Honestly, I would come back just to order two Bánh Xèo. I actually came back a second time before posting this review, this time with my family. We ordered the Bắp Xào, Cơm Chiên Bò Lúc Lắc, and a simple rice dish. This visit was a bit different -- across the board, we all agreed the dishes leaned too salty this time around. I could also tell the staff was overwhelmed, with only two people handling both the front and the kitchen, so it was tough to get their attention at times. That said, the Bánh Xèo still held its ground. My parents were genuinely impressed by the size, and for me, it's still an absolute banger -- something I'd come back for again and again purely for flavor and value. The Bắp Xào really stood out to me in a nostalgic way. I loved the use of traditional Vietnamese corn, and the sautéed dried shrimp brought back memories of flavors from dishes I grew up eating, even if I couldn't quite pinpoint which one. While my mom thought it was too salty, I actually felt like it would pair perfectly with a bowl of plain white rice. I also tried some of my brother's Cơm Chiên Bò Lúc Lắc and found the beef to be tender and flavorful, though not particularly standout compared to other places. I've had very similar versions nearby, but it's still my brother's go-to -- though I suspect that might also be his way of loading up on protein. Overall, even with the inconsistency during the second visit, I still really enjoy Yummy Quan -- especially for the appetizers. It's a place I'd bring family and friends to try, and I'm still curious about more of the menu... but realistically, I could live life on Bánh Xèo alone. At the end, you also get to grab some guava candy, and for anyone who's never had these, don't forget to pick some up -- they're simply delectable!

We let the ice melt a bit and it made for a great palatte cleanser. Banh Xeo (4.5/5): Definitely one of their signature dishes. I read the reviews on how large it was and it was still shocking! See my hand for reference. It's crispy and delicious. Two downsides: Not enough protein, and not enough lettuce to make wraps with how big it is. But overall, definitely one of the best I've had outside of homemade. Banh Khot (4/5): These little flavor explosions are a perfect bite size and are also a signature dish. Would definitely recommend. A few of ours were light on the pork. Banh Bot Chien (3.5/5): I was dying to try this since there is really one famous spot for it. Their version is very good, but misses on the crispiness. The inside texture and pairing sauces and radish were all very good, it just needed a little more crisp. I love that they give extra garlic and spice and basically let you customize the intensity of your fish sauce to your preference. Paid with no issues via inKind at the counter. We definitely left stuffed and would come back!

As I dug deeper, I read Jando's glowing review word-for-word and found myself salivating. Well, I ventured out to S. I had read before that they used to be closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but now they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but open for dinner on Saturdays. (See my photos.) Anyhow, we walked in and found the place homey. Nothing fancy - just a nice, clean, homey Malaysian restaurant. Not too big, and not too small. We placed our order of roti canai, stir fried flat rice noodles, seafood sizzling tofu, and topped it off with a Malaysian milk tea. Oh my - we were satisfied and stuffed as a party of 2. We ended up boxing up almost 40% of the meal. The roti was near perfection - crispy, hot, flaky. The dipping sauce was perfectly seasoned with the right amount of heat. It included chunks of chicken and potato. You must absolutely order this one. I love me some stir fried flat rice noodles so we got that one with chicken. Overall, it was excellent. Portions were a tad smaller than I would like for the price. Also it could use a little bit of hot sauce so we asked for a side of sriracha which they gladly and quickly brought. The sizzling tofu - OMG so good. I can't even explain it. I just love it so much and the portions are huge. I'm not sure what the vegetable flavor would taste like but we tried the seafood one and have no regrets. Lastly the milk tea was just because we felt like splurging and it was also a great decision. The tea flavor itself is deep and the overall drink is very nice. We got it iced. And an honorable mention - we ran into Uncle Chin (at least we assume it was Uncle Chin) and told him his food was amazing. I think he really appreciated it. He seems like a super nice guy and I want his business to do really well. If that wasn't Uncle Chin then we talked to a random person and raved about the food... But we could see through the curtain that he was just standing there doing nothing, and he instructed the waitress to say he was busy. He wouldn't even face us. He clearly doesn't care about customers or whether people come back or not. Very, very bad service. We left hungry, and it was a horrible, horrible experience. We will never return to that place. I do not recommend it !! They are very, very rude. They do not care about their customers at all. She didn't even greet us. No 'hello,' no 'welcome,' no 'can I get you something to drink?' She just said, 'What do you want to drink?' and that was it. Absolutely pathetic service."

Stopped in around 230 on a weekend visit and found myself in a busy parking lot with many options. Dumplingholic House is one of the smaller options in the plaza, so look closely. Quality over quantity! We were quickly seated and served. Drink orders taken and we read the expansive menu. So much to chose from. Our server was knowledgeable and up to date on all matters kitchen and let us know that the pork, shrimp, scallop dumpling was just now being refilled and an order would take some 45 minutes. We opted to save it for another time. We ordered pork soup dumplings (oh my goodness, delicious and full!), panfried pork and shrimp dumplings, panfried beef and scallion dumplings, shrimp rolls and vegetable eggrolls. All came out in shifts and we were able to sample each. The quantities are huge so pacing is important! Cannot wait to come back.

There were 2 in my dining group and we shared the oil-splashed spicy noodles, chive and egg pancake, pork and shrimp xiaolongbao, and chive, egg and shrimp steamed dumplings. The xiaolongbao were literally the best I've had in the Houston area. The wrapping was thin but didn't break when we picked up the dumplings, and the soup inside was flavorful. The oil-splashed noodles were just spicy enough to be enjoyable. The chive and egg pancake was crispy but not oily at all. The chive, egg and shrimp dumplings are made to order so they were the last item served. The wrapping was impressively thin and almost translucent.

Service was prompt and quasi friendly. I thought the broth was good despite having an overwhelming aroma of cinnamon. I requested for pho tuoi (fresh noodles) which are slightly bigger than the standard noodles they give you. However, I regretted this choice because many of my noodles were clumped together, distracting from the overall enjoyment of the meal. Additionally, I think there's a heavy usage of MSG in their broth because I felt loopy and very thirsty for water halfway through. Needless to say, I was only able to eat half of the generous serving. For those who are a fan of pho and appreciate generous portions, this place is definitely worth a visit. Their pho bowls are substantially larger than those I've encountered elsewhere, offering a potentially satisfying experience for the more voracious diner but for me, quantity is not enough of a reason to become a regular. Note: There's a $1 uncharge for pho tuoi (fresh noodles).

At first it was just us and one other table, but not long after, more people started coming in, probably for lunch as well. The restaurant is pretty large, with both tables and booths, plus a big table for large groups. This is what we ordered: Combo Rolls This comes as a sampler with five different types of spring rolls. Regular spring rolls, nem nuong rolls (fermented grilled pork), grilled chicken, grilled pork, and shrimp only. I really liked this idea because it lets you try everything without having to order each roll separately. My favorite was the nem nuong roll. Bun Bo Hue I do not eat pork blood or pork loaf, so I substituted them with more tendon and beef meatballs. Because of that, I cannot really comment on how the pork tasted. The broth was okay but a little lacking in flavor. After I asked for shrimp paste, it tasted much better. Bo Kho (Beef Stew) This is my husband favorite dish, so he always orders it whenever a place has it. He ordered the one come with bread as dipping. He did not really like this one. It was not bad, but not great either. The flavor was missing, and the broth was more watered down than how he prefers it. Still, it is worth trying if you like beef stew. Overall, our experience was just okay. The service was fine, but the food did not leave a strong impression on us. We did not stay long since my husband had to get back to work. I would come back to try more dishes, especially pho. Since their name is Pho Guru, I feel like the pho might be better. Plus we dined in around Fall time in 2025 so I think the place would have so change with out last experience
