I will not be coming here any longer!! Went to take my mom to pick up her food she paid for ahead of time for the 4th of July and just had my day totally ruined by some bitch who they had working outside!! ( LIGHT SKIN, MINI AFRO, bout 6'5) I've never seen her before when coming here they probably only hire her when they need extra hands. Ive been going to Phillips for a long time but normally the location on Crenshaw but decided to give this place a try a while back n ended up sticking with it because there meat is A LIL BIT more tender than Crenshaw location. I pulled into the driveway as you know if you been here the parking lot is really small and packed so it's a hit or miss if you find a parking space or not. I pulled into the parking lot, the spaces were all filled so I parked behind the cars of the people WAITING IN LINE to ask the lady working outside a question, as soon as I walked up to the lady she had a BIG NASTY ASS ATTITUDE, I disregarded it at first and continued to ask how does picking up a paid order work? She just threw her finger to the right and said the line was over there....um okay? So I walked back to my car to let my mother out to hold our place in line and as I was walking my mother to the end of line as she is on a cane, the bitch in the front literally starts yelling YOU CANT PARK THERE YOU CANT PARK THERE I turn around and walked up to the lady to ask if she maybe knew where I could park because I wasn't from the area ...can you believe the EXACT WORDS THAT CAME OUT THIS LADY MOUTH WAS "IMA TELL IT TO YOU LIKE THIS BECAUSE IM AT WORK IF YOU DONT MOVE YOUR CAR IMA TOW IT" .....WTF did I do to this lady to make her talk to me like I'm a dog?? I mean seriously me and my mother wasn't even there for 10 minutes. Mind you we paid for this order two weeks ahead for 11 o clock and was still going to wait in line with no problem never said it was a issue. After that I literally exploded because I didn't understand why she was talking to me with such disrespect in her tone, she proceeds to run in the store to try to get another co worker on her side and this lady was no help AS WELL she's a short lady that wears a Durag under her hat ALL the time. she putS her hand up to me while I was trying to explain how rude her worker was, she ignored me to continue listening to the lies her other co worker was telling her which was I immediately walked up to her with a attitude?? Which is BS! The lady told her co worker "girl you already know what this is, I ain't got time" and walked outside ... then the little lady with the durag asks me what my order is ???? Doesn't say sorry ma'am for what happened, what happened from your view? I'm sorry my worker has a nasty attitude NOTHING just "what's your order" I say to her that's it? Not what happened? I'm sorry even? She said I'm trying but you keep yelling (mind you I'm not yelling and when I was that's when the lady had the audacity to be lying RIGHT NEXT TO ME. The short lil man decided to walk to the register and just give me my refund. The service was soooo bad I HAD TO ASK for a refund because I would've been a DAMN FOOL to sit there and take that food while this lady just talked to me like a dog for no reason?! Maybe because they had her ass in the sun too long can or maybe somebody pissed her before I walked idfk but I know my day is completely ruined. Best believe ima take it further than this you will not continue to think that you can get through business with HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I recently had food from Phillips Bar B Que. It was my third time there and I can honestly say that I have had better during the previous two experiences. I went in with an open mind and tried the Rib Tips with mild sauce, but they were nothing special. From all that I have had in the past, this was my least favorite. You get what you pay for here :-) I ordered two racks of beef ribs, a quart of mac n cheese and a 1lb of rib tips. Everyone is complaining about how much it cost but you really get what you pay for here. When have you known barbecue to be cheap? Man I absolutely love the food here. It's has been around for years and I see why. The sauce they make is off the CHAAAAAAAAAIIIINNNNNN! I order they're brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad. The brisket is so tender and juicy especially in that sauce. Next time I go I'm ordering something different with mix sauce which spicy tangy and sweet. The only thing that's a disappointment is they're sides. It could be better as far as taste and the amount you get. It's a tease how much you get of a small side that cost about $3. After years of contemplation, I decided to try Phillips. I ordered a whole chicken and the sliced beef with a side collard greens. The service was great. The guy at the counter went over my order twice before I walked out. I paid the $45 and was on my way! When I got home...ready to indulge, the food was just...blah. I've been passing by this place for years and finally decided to try it. The service was excellent , the food delicious and they give you enough to share. I ordered the pork rib dinner with bbq beans and coleslaw and a side of Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was the best I've ever had. You get 6 nice size ribs and two small sides. They are walking distance from my house very nice place to get my BBQ fix. We had sliced beef and the beef links. Every BBQ place is different so I am trying to find the joint that nails it for me . The beef links were very nice the sliced beef was OK the food and sides didn't jump off the place and slap me in the face and say dam I good, still waiting to find that place. This place is horrible. DO NOT GO HERE. They've gotten rid of most of the black cooks and the food straight up sucks. Try for your self and you will see. I like Phillips. I have been many times before. It is a decent BBQ joint, but not the best LA has to offer. I always order the chicken links with the mixed sauce, which is a mix of hot and mild. It is for sure a hood BBQ place. I was greeted by a guy with a shower cap atop his head, but his braids were hanging out of the cap and resting on his shoulder, totally defeating the purpose of said shower cap, but he was nice and the order came quickly. read more

I ordered the "triple meat" combo plate with baby back ribs, bar-b-que chicken, and sliced beef all with mixed sauce. All meat was well cooked and sweet, spicy, and tangy! The combo runs $21 so it's not cheap but the food is artery clogging goodness! read more

Pound of rib tips and a double-order of beans please!

I'm always looking for good food in LA especially BBQ. So hearing about Phillips gave me some excitement knowing that I'll be eating at a BBQ spot that's been in business for over 35 years. Must be good right? Not! I'll be as descriptive as possible. As we drove up to the front door I did smell a small hit of smoking wood and BBQ but not the alluring smell that I makes my mouth water. Once we entered we smelled it alil more. My girlfriend suggested we just try a hot link and the small portion of rib tips to see if we like it and we did order just that.It came w bread and I choose a side of BBQ baked beans. The cashier was pretty nice and our food came out within 5 mins. Once we got to the car to try the food I opened it and 1st noticed the link was cut into pieces(hard to eat on a slice of bread) I tasted it and was immediately disappointed with the flavor of the link and the mild BBQ sauce which was kinda chunky. Next was the rib tips. The rib tips texture was was good and tender but it was lacking flavor plus the Sauce didn't compliment the ribs. Sauce needs more flavor maybe even add some brown sugar or something. The beans didn't have any flavor, it was like they poured it right out the can and added a little BBq sauce and heated it up.Usually I give a restaurant a second chance but I doubt I'll be going back to Phillips. Whatever has kept y'all open for the last 35-40 years please go back to it because this is bad for business. Man, something has happened where I have been craving BBQ regularly. As I walk past Phillips on my way home my mouth starts watering when I smell that rich smokey flavor. I couldn't contain myself today and ordered the chicken link sandwich. A few months back I thought JRs BBQ was better but that is no longer the case for me. This was my first time and Phillips Barbeque II and I was impressed. A very nice lady took my order of a bbq beef sandwich, corn and greens. Much to my dismay, I locked my keys in the car with my bbq inside in the parking lot. I was certain my food would be cold by the time somebody came and got the door open, but i was wrong. Seriously this is the hottest (temperature) food you will ever find. even after 20 minutes the greens were so hot i had to let them cool down and the sandwich was steaming hot when i opened the foil. The beef on the sandwich was tender and flavorful and had the perfect amount of sauce. The greens were full of bacon and salt, just the way i like 'em, and the corn on the cob was good too. Wow, this place is great. I haven't had great BBQ like this in a long time. I don't eat beef but the ribs look fabulous. The chicken is mouth watering, but at times can be slightly dry. Everytime I go to Phillips, I get the same order and it never seems to get old. Something about that $5 bbq chicken on a roll sandwich that seems to quench my bbq desire everytime. I don't venture out much and try too much else on the menu, but judging off the sauce on the BBQ chicken, Phillips "has it going on" as my mother would say. I was stuck in traffic and decided to take surface streets through Inglewood. Ended up driving past Phillips and decided to grab some dinner. I had the pork ribs meal with beans and potato salad. The dinner came with 2 slices of bread. The meal was kind of pricey but it did come with a good amount of ribs. Maybe 5 or 6 ribs. Much like the Phillips I had in Chino (closed), the ribs were meaty and cooked perfectly. They had a nice light smoke ring and perfect texture. My only minor qualm about them is the lack of deep flavor from the rub. I ordered sauce on the side and ended up never eating them with the ribs. I did have some with the bread; its a pretty good sauce with good flavor and mild heat. The beans and potato salad were good but nothing too extraordinary. Parking is kind of difficult as its in a small strip mall with other businesses. There isn't a dining room or any tables so its all to go orders. The young gentleman behind the counter was very nice and my order came out fairly fast. They easily make my top 5 BBQ in Southern California, for now. read more

Really disappointing. I've heard so much about this place and since it's right next door to the best cheesecake place, I thought I'd try it. I ordered a half slab of baby back ribs, side of greens and peach cobbler. $22.81 I got home and was nearly salivating expecting tender, juicy ribs. Instead, they were closer to rib jerky. Tough, dry and so not what I was hoping for. The greens were meh. And even more of a disappointment than the ribs was the peach cobbler. After struggling through a couple of ribs, and tossing the greens in the trash, I settled in to enjoy peach cobbler. GRRRR! The crust, laid loosely over the top of the little tin container, was stale and cold. The peach slices swam in a watery filling with an unidentifiable glob in the bottom of the tin that I'm guessing (hoping) was an attempt at a bottom crust of sorts. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the people there were professional, attentive and fast. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I'm inclined to go back, tell them about my experience and ask whether I should have ordered a pork sandwich or maybe beef ribs? If it's bad the second time, I'll have to go back to my old standby, Dinah's Chicken. Their baby back ribs are pretty good. Not terrible. Not great. Although I grew up eating this for most special occasions, suggesting for my hubby to try it wasn't the best. I had the sliced brisket dinner and he ordered a combo of three meats for dinner. The restaurant itself is take out only, which was fine. The cashier was extremely friendly and attentive. However the food quality is what warrants the 2-star rating. My meat was drenched in BBQ sauce and without it seemed flavorless. Meanwhile his food which included: tips, sausage, and brisket was also lacking any meaningful robustness for the tastebuds. The sides which are offered for their dinner combos are extremely small and are limited to: potato salad, slaw, or BBQ beans. If you prefer another the of side, you're expected to pay more. Because they consider this a dinner plate, I'd expect to have the ability to have a larger selection of sides. read more
