I've had quite a bit of bbq in my life, from Pappy's in Saint Louis to Hawaiian bbq in... hawaii! Hahaha ok so I'm not a bbq connoisseur but I have had some pretty delicious bbq and if I must say, Phillips Bar B Que is it's a league if it's own because the flavors and textures are so unique and on point it's hard to ignore and near impossible to replicate! I adore their Baked Beans, I 100% recommend you double if not triple the amount of baked beans in your order because trust me you will want more! They have a wicked good deal it's a large combination platter for only $120 and it can easily feed five hungry big dudes if not more. It comes with hot links, bbq chicken, baby back ribs, beef ribs, tibs and possibly more?! I totally forget exactly what it comes with but holy guacamole it's loaded. BBQ is a labor of love, so I'm shocked to see how reasonably priced their food is especially considering how skillfully made it is. There is no comparison to this style of bbq ribs. Their bbq sauce has such a delightful spicy and flavor. There are many offerings here, for me it's impossible to try all of it in one visit, so I will be back for more! I absolutely would recommend to anyone who is craving bbq and who is open to trying new flavors. As I opened mentioning Pappy's and Hawaiian bbq, that's exactly what I'm trying to say is that there are so many styles of bbq that they're all different and delicious. Just give it a try! Still have yet to experience an off day with Phillips, they are always consistent in flavor and quality. Pro tip: wear comfortable shoes, wear a mask (covid), bring some water, hat, sun glasses, maybe a granola bar to hold you over, there is usually a line. Nothing major, but nothing quick and easy either. Also give them a call to confirm hours if you're unsure. Their restaurant is operating with covid19 safety in mind. Everything is contactless and masks, social distancing is expected. I have not experienced delivery service through them or via a third party. Honestly, it's nice to get out of the house and get it fresh on your own and just save some cash on delivery service, not to mention Phillips (and any restaurant) would keep more profit if you don't use a delivery service. Small, order at the counter place. We saw just as many people come in to pick up phone orders as there were in line. We waited about 10 minutes for them to prepare the food. Baby back ribs- meat did fall off the bone, but I've had softer/tender baby back ribs elsewhere. We didn't like the sauce. It was more sour than we'd like it...maybe vinegary? Bbq chicken- was tender enough w the same mild sauce as the BB ribs. Bread- just white sandwich bread Potato salad- decent Yams- tasted like it has brown sugar. It was more like a dessert. read more

I happened to be at Harriet's Cheesecakes next door when I noticed the great bbq smell coming from this place. I ordered the rib lunch. It took a while to get my order. Are they usually that slow? When it comes to Bbq,I don't mess around. My grandfather took pride in his Louisiana flavored Smoke House meats! At age 15, I moved to TEXAS & boy oh boy They don't play about bbq in that state. Over the years,I have become what I call a bbq connoisseur. There are so many ways to smoke & bbq,it's beyond belief. I enjoy a smoky flavored meat,it's my favorite. I've been in California visiting & started craving a good ole' rib..lol So I decided to try Phillips after hearing great things. I Enjoyed the Sausage the MosT. I find it to be very lean VS fatty. The brisket cut was very lean as well. I really enjoyed the outer layer of my ribs as well. It tasted as if maybe it was glazed &marinated overnight. YUMM! I liked the fact that there are a variety of sides. A lot of bbq restaurants only serve potato salad & beans. The Collard greens were good. I think they could have simmered a bit longer. It would allow them to be more tender. In the south we believe greens should melt in your mouth. They were good,non the less. The Sauce is made completely different than I ever tasted. I thought it had a nice thick consistency &balance of spices!!! This is the definition of a mom & pop bbq spot that has EXCELLENT food. This was/is one of my favorite BBQ joints. Love the tenderness of their mest, potato and macaroni salads. But, I don't know what happened over the past few months. Their hours changed, they run out of meat. I am disappointed. They have again, run out of brisket, ribs--beef and pork, ribtips, etc. It is going to take another hour before more meat, not all, will be ready. I went to Phillips in Ingelwood and I was totally disappointed. I ordered a large tray of rib tips and 4 slabs of ribs for a party. The tray of rib tips were TERRIBLE it was mostly bones and grissle there was hardly any meat at all and the sauce had hardly any taste. The slabs were suppose to have 12 bones on a slab it wasn't and there was a hint of lighter fluid. Phillips used to be so much better. After trying out Phillips on Crenshaw Blvd. I was hooked! My grandmother lives about 15 minutes away from this location and I just happened to be visiting her so why not get some good BBQ! Upon arriving at my location I could already smell the familiar smokey goodness that I experienced at the Crenshaw location and my mouth began to water. As with the other locations this joint is strictly take out, no bench or anything so you don't have to eat at home but you sure aren't eating there. I ordered the sliced beef and a slab of baby back to share with my brother and was saddened to hear that they had none of the baby backs left. Though not happy, I could understand due the fact that I stopped by a little later in the day. So I decided to get the pork ribs instead remembering they were pretty good themselves. However, this time maybe it was because of the location, different cook or less hype the brisket was as good but the ribs weren't as tender as I remembered. Nonetheless, the meal was still fantastic and I still enjoyed it greatly but next time I think i'll drive a little further and stop by the Crenshaw location. On Veterans Day, I wanted some old fashion Barbecue Ribs and Beef Hot-links. So, I went to this location. To be honest, I was reluctant because of the negative reviews I had read. However, I wanted to find out for myself, what was going on. First, driving into the parking lot, I noticed two gentlemen (Phillips Employees) helping a customer load trunk with food trays. That was a plus for me. I went inside the place and was greeted by a young lady ( Ms. Rhonda). She was very welcoming and pleasant. Great costumer service!!!!! I ordered four small end dinners, one rib tip dinner, one beef link dinner and a few small containers of sauce. As I waited for my order, I realized I forgot to order some dessert, so I ordered 2 banana puddings:) Ms. Rhonda said, that's on the house:) So sweet of her. Well, when I arrived home, my family was waiting for the bar b que and said , they were starvin like Marvin(lol). OMGosh!!!! The ribs, rib tips, hot links, baked beans , bread and potato salad were DELICIOUS! Everything was FRESH, NICE PORTIONS. JUST GOOD OLD FASHION BAR B QUE !!!!!!!! This place is the real thing. I have enjoyed Phillip Bar B Que for more than 20 years. As a Kansas City native, I know and appreciate good barbeque. Both the Centinela location and the Crenshaw locations serve excellent food. I recently read a bogus review regarding maggots, absolute slander. Some folks just do not have respect for others. The service through the plastic barrier was nice but nope, not at all the business...I had the beef ribs, mac and cheese, greens, noooooo.
