Pork Ribs Dinner with baked beans and macaroni salad
Marian G.

I was craving some BBQ for the NFL draft. I thought of coming here. I order the pork dinner (5 ribs) with two sides. The sides are so small it's unbelievable. The portion of sides is ideal for two ribs not five ribs. I had macaroni salad and baked beans. The pork BBQ was tender and the sauce was mild and tasty. The order was complete and handled to me fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a walk up and order BBQ. No dining in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is tight.

Rib tibs and slice beef, garlic Mac, potato salad and BBQ Beans fyyyyrrrre!

You have got to try this spot! Everything is flavorful you'll be very satisfied with the combination dinner! I wanted the deluxe dinner but came too late! The chicken was all gone. But I was still satisfied with the rib tibs and beef.

Ordered a two meat combo: ribs and sliced beef with potato salad and beans. Generous portion of meats, sliced beef was overcooked and dry (think: texture of canned beef), ribs were 'tender' yet dry. The sides were 2oz containers. Potato salad had good flavor but potatoes were too big. Beans tasted like canned beans that were doctored up. Jose took my order, who was really nice.

I'm glad they open on a Monday!! Came in today for my BBQ fixed. Sliced beef lunch (at 6:39) with baked beans and a canned soda. Good, honest, nostalgic food. Parking can be tense however it's worth it. Wait isn't long either and staff is friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is simple with a couple benches for waiting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Staff Friendliness 5/5

Beef Links Lunch

Has always been my favorite barbecue and Los Angeles. I always get the beef flakes or I get beef links and sliced beef and ribs. It's always great. I've been coming here since I was a child.

Nicely packed

Walked in to this place with an open mind since the reviews are mixed. I asked for the "lunch specials" and was told by the cashier (male) they didnt have any and the "the menu has been the same and it never changes".... I thought it was kinda rude. I later saw a "cheat food sheet" posted on the side window which advertised "lunch specials".!!! I ordered a dinner special (3 meats and 2 sides) and added a corn bread muffin to give it a try. I waited about 10 min for my food and paid $28.00. I received my food in a nicely packed bag, all very tight and it did nit look like anything would spill which was great. I opened the bag and started to unwrap my food. It all came In a paper plate like the ones used for nachos, I ordered bbq pork ribs, beed link and pork bits, bbq beans and potato salad. They looked good and smelled good. The sauce that came with the food already on it was not very good (I asked for mixed sauce and a separate side of bbq sauce. Here is my opinion on the taste: Bbq ribs- 6 out of 10 tender but not much flavor. Beef link- 3 out of 10- hard, not very appetizing, zero flavor Rib tips- 8 out of 10- good portions, decent flavor Corn muffin -1 out of 10 hard, no flavor, and old looking Potato salad- 7 out of 10 Bbq beans - 9 out of 10 Overall, the food was "ok" but not worth my $28.00 bucks. I WILL probably come back to try the $7.00 chicken sandwich roll and post about it....

Garlic Mac & Cheese

Walking into Phillips take out only the lady at the window greeted us with a warm smile very pleasant. We ordered ribs, links, Mac & cheese, potato salad, and corn on the cob. My mom enjoyed the links and very much garlic Mac & cheese and potato salad. The ribs were not smoked or bbqued they tasted like they were boiled and then put in the oven they could have cooked a little longer they were ok tasting, the corn was boiled too no salt, seasoning or butter I got 2 corns one tasted funny and I woke up a little sick the next morning. May or may not be back.

Coleslaw, not really. Mayonnaise with cabbage. Yuck!

The quality and taste is diminishing. I had the chicken link dinner and it just didn't have a taste I'm used to.

Ask the Community - Phillips Bar B Que

Is this a dine in or just take out restaurant?

Take out only

I called Phillips BBQ and the worker said those are the apps the restaurant uses. If the restaurant can't keep up with that, then what's the point? It's not the app that advertises for itself, it does that for the restaurant.

Restaurants have no control or input on the driver situations. That is completely handled by the app you're using.

How do you place an order? The phone line is always busy.

The only other way is via Postmates.

Pleasantly surprised by this little gem. We ordered the meal deal which included a sandwich with…read moreyour choice of meat, a small side and a drink soda can. Let me say that me and my family are very picky about our barbecue, this one hit all the marks. We all got the same thing chopped beef, but each of us got different sauces. We got mild which was nice and tangy we got mixed which was the mild and spicy together which had a nice spicy sweet heat and the spicy which had a very strong kick, so if you don't like spice stay away from that one. It was served on a nice large bun and had enough meat to fill us up. We got the baked beans and mac and cheese for the sides. The baked beans were good standard, don't know if they were canned or not, but good. The mac and cheese was very tasty, not plain, I've seen people complain about the size but you can always upgrade to a bigger size for $2. The gentleman at the counter was friendly enough and Kenny himself was there And he was friendly and helpful as well. To end the meal we got a banana pudding which was good, but we make our own at home and that one's hard to top. All in all it was an excellent meal and we would come back to try other stuff. They do have tables to eat at which are outdoors, as well as an accessible table for those who may need it. Keep up the great work Kenny!

I'm glad to have this local potato close to home. Stopped…read moreby for a rib tip and beef link combo today and it's just what I needed. Sometimes I forget how good and flavorful the meat actually is. Had to start getting my bbq sauce on the side to fully appreciate it. Service is good and to the point (just how I like it). Staff definitely makes you feel welcomed though. Typical bbq restaurant. There are no inside tables to eat. Definitely a pick up and go place. Plenty of parking in the back lot and neighborhood. Average meal is about $20-25.

As someone who grew up in Los Angeles, this review honestly pains me to write…read more.. Woody's used to be a birthday tradition for me growing up. If you know, YOU KNOW. Back in the day, you had to get there early because the place STAYED PACKED, and their ribs were THEE reason to go. They were hands down some of the best ribs I ever had as a kid. They put me on. Fast forward 15-20 years later, and today was my first time coming back since my teenage years. I tried calling ahead to place an order, but couldn't get through. Honestly, that didn't surprise me because Woody's was always busy. I figured it was still the same old Woody's. Then I pulled into the parking lot around 6 PM on a Thursday. Immediately, there was parking available. That alone felt odd. No line. Plenty of parking. Not a single customer inside. That should have been my first sign. We ordered beef ribs, sliced brisket, mac and cheese, and dessert. They were out of the banana pudding, so we settled for peach cobbler. The total was around $50, which isn't bad for dinner for two. The excitement really started to hit when we got home and opened everything up. Unfortunately, that's when reality set in. The mac and cheese was terrible. Completely flavorless, watery, and mushy. The pasta was so overcooked it practically fell apart and blended together like baby food. It tasted old and had absolutely no seasoning or richness whatsoever. First and last time ordering that. Next was the brisket. The slices were gray, dry, and looked like they'd been sitting around for a while. I took one bite and immediately said, "Absolutely not." Another disappointment. But I wasn't too worried yet because I came for one thing: THE RIBS. The flavor was actually still there. The sauce and seasoning reminded me of the Woody's I remembered. BUT THE TEXTURE... A completely different story. The ribs weren't tender, weren't juicy, and definitely weren't falling off the bone. They were tough enough that I found myself working for every bite. At that point, the empty parking lot, empty dining room, and lack of lines made a lot more sense. By the end of the meal, I ended up rinsing the remaining ribs off so my dog could enjoy them as a chew toy. What hurts most isn't the bad meal--it's seeing what was once a legendary BBQ spot become a shadow of what it used to be. I almost wish I hadn't come back because it tarnished some really great childhood memories for me. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I also believe in being honest. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but based on this experience, Woody's is not the Woody's I remember, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. If it's any consolation, the cobbler was okay. But not worth going out of my way for.
