For the past 3 days, I've BEEN CRAVING BARBEQUE. Decided to pick some up after work (...like after 6 PM similar to most working folks). Knowing that PHILLIP'S KEEPS CHANGING/DECREASING THEIR HOURS, I checked their schedule online. Sure enough, PHILLIPS ON CENTINELA WAS CLOSED that day. So, I left work early--racing over to their Crenshaw location--only to get there just after 6 PM. I was heartbroken. :(( Then, I recalled what I saw on another review & decided to TRY BLUDSO'S. I remember this place fondly from back in the day. I visited recently and was sooooo disappointed. My food tasted old. The chicken wings were not fresh. Food overall was on the bland side. Staff was nice enough. But I will take a little attitude to get more tasty food. I'm likely done with them and won't return. read more

Okay, this is not a sit-down restaurant, it's a take out joint. The parking is tight. When I was there my car got hit but that has nothing to do with these guys They know their business. Their business is bar b que. They spell it right too. And they make it right. It's priced right too. And you can order enough for a party of 24 people or more if you call ahead. read more

Honestly I do not understand the bad reviews. I've been here twice and both times I've never had a problem. From my understanding this business has been in the community for a long time just like Woody's. People love to complain and if you look at most of the complaints they're just absolutely ridiculous. I love beef ribs. Their prices are very reasonable here. Almost too reasonable. But then again it's not fancy or sit down. It looks kind of suspicious because it's so run down. But the food was surprisingly yummy! Ok it wasn't the most perfect beef rib, it was fatty and not the highest quality, but I'd say for the price it was solid and better than expected. read more

This is a decent spot to get barbeque, especially during holidays when barbeque joints can be hectic and sell out of meat quickly. Although I prefer Woody's...just saying. Came here for Memorial Day weekend, moms choice, and the experience was pretty cool. I was very happy to be in and out in about 20 miuntes. The shop was not crowded at all, and everything ran smoothly. As for the food, we orderd a tray, which came with two sides. The ribs were really good, and the barbeque chicken was not bad, just slightly dry on the inside. However, the rib tips could use some work. Our tray came with a ton of those tiny tips any they were mostly bone instead of meat...I can't remember the last time, if ever that I literally ate crunchy bones instead of meaty rib tips. With a tray also comes a giant loaf of white bread, which was great since some places only give you a few slices and have you fighting with family members over who gets the last slice. The sides were potato salad and those sweet beans, whatever they're called. I didn't try the sides becasue I don't like barbeque sides, especially those beans, but they gave us plenty. Point being, this is a cool spot if you want a family tray, but you might want to have a talk with them about those rib tips or just pass on them altogether. read more

PHILLIP'S Bar-b-que is the best in Inglewood and Los Angeles. We only buy Bar-b-que from Phillip's on Centinela, in Inglewood, CA. We always order Rib Tip dinners. They also have the most delicious Garlic Mac & Cheese. The sauce is to die for. It reminds me of when I was a young girl and pops used to make his Bar-b-que sauce from scratch. We totally always recommend Phillip's to everyone we speak to that's looking for Bar-b-que. I don't know what happened when these people are complaining. We have never had any problems with food or service. We have been going to Phillip's on Centinela for more than 10 years. Glad you're still here all these years. read more

I've been going to Philips when it was in Leimert Park. I've been a customer for the past 30+ years. Today is my last day going. I'm so tired of eating establishments, grocery stores et al charging more, giving you less, and inferior quality. It's the norm, now, when you order ribs, they cut them large and you find you have more bones than meat. For the past 30+ years I order rib tips cut thin. Now they cut them thick. They're hard to chew, and you get more bones. I've had the challenge since they raised their prices. You get less, and the quality isn't the same. When I told the manager, he said that he was getting a lot of complaints from customers when they sliced the rib tips thin. Why would he get complaints IF the customer asked for them to be cut thin? I had him give me my money back. I guess Phillips is okay with losing business. I'm not the first one who has complained. A few of my friends, and a nurse at the hospital. I'm so disappointed. After being a customer of Phillips for over 40 years, sadly I will not continue my patronage with them. They used to have a location in Leimert Park near my former residence @ 43rd and Leimert Park Blvd. Last Saturday I placed an order for 2 lbs of rib tips with the sauce on the side during the lunch time period. I initially ordered a pound and a half but was told that one could order half pound portions. After that it was the only thing I understood from the person taking the order. I was charged for 2 lbs at the dinner rate. The order consisted of a pound of tips, 2 slices of white bread (fail to ask white or wheat preference) and no sides. The sauce was the worst BBQ sauce on the planet!! I could taste the flavor of the can from the tomato paste (perhaps from a very old can). With a little heat to it?? That was the sauce. A neighborhood staple, their meat is very good quality and their sauce legendary. Don't expect friendly service but they're efficient. It's a takeout only spot so plan to take it to go. Their sliced beef (Tri tip), pork ribs and hot links are the best. Sauce comes in three levels of heat. Served old fashioned style with traditional sides and slices of fresh slices of white bread come with the meals. You can call in orders but if you're looking to get large trays for holidays and such, I'd suggest going in to place your order to make sure they get it right. Hands down the best BBQ in LA. No frills but excellent flavor and quality. I've been going for years especially as they closed their Leimert Park location a few years ago. Get extra sauce on the side. It's delicious. read more

I ordered the rib tip dinner with baked beans and macaroni salad. I am always crestfallen when simple dishes are tasteless and bland. Macaroni and mayo, no seasoning at all, no bell peppers! No onions! Those are the basics!! Nothing ! Just mayo., pork n beans in thin bbq sauce?? maybe. You did say "baked". A lot of rib tips, very chewy, in heavy bitter sauce. It's a noooo for me! Worst bbq I've ever had. Everything was off except the portions of the meat. Ordered the 3 meat dinner (chicken links, sliced beef, rib tips) with macaroni salad (they gave me potato salad) which was flavorless and beans, they were just ok... I requested light sauce, I might as well had said no sauce because the drop they put on my meat was horrible. The meat didn't have that flavorful smoked flavor at all! Rib tips were tender, but why were they cut so thin?? Sliced beef was tender but lacked flavor. Chicken links were alright. I also ordered a banana pudding made by On The Go, it wasn't good neither. A friend recommended eating BBQ from Phillip's in Inglewood; 1517 Centinela Ave, Inglewood, CA 90302 I would say to my surprise but I really wasn't surprised at how dry and unhelpful the person was. Remember this is my first time and I was a bit confused. as I attenped to order, the phone person put me on hold. She returned and I begin to order with a few questions about side order sizes she was extremely rude and impatience and place ne on another hold. Whike on hold I could hear their interaction with others which was basically in the same manner- I was on hold for 15 minutes before someone picked up the phone a d politely hung it up. I frequently patronize BOB to help them stay afloat seeing that some may have been overlook in recieving a stimulus check. A month later I tried it again and was successful with placing my order. The same person "dry personality" answered the phone. When my husband pick up the food he said the lady t h counter was nice. Heres my problem; when you are in the business of public service...do it with a caring attitude; smile and act concerned. Be helpful and suggestive with what your business can o ffer new customers and first time callers. I dont what to stereotype this place so I'm asking that management would step in and train the employees to be more accommodating and polite Eventho you have a steady flow of regulars you lost a new and local business owner that could have potentially gained you all more business clients. read more

Also tried the chicken link sandwich with macaroni salad. I chose spicy BBQ sauce on the sandwich and it came sliced in several pieces, and bread on the side. I was able to make more than two sandwiches with it! Great Value! The side dishes were not that impressive. Potato salad was okay, but the baked beans werent sweet enough and reminded me of tomato sauce. When I chose macaroni, I was expecting mac n cheese, but I got cold macaroni salad. Not sure what happened to this place but the quality has really gone downhill, but that doesn't stop them from raising their prices. I had the rib tips with coleslaw, baked beans and cornbread. The ribs tips were decent. I know some spots like to skimp on the meat and give you lots of fat and bones but these were meaty. Flavor-wise however, they were severely lacking. I ordered mine with mixed sauce and they tasted pretty bland with zero heat to them. The beans tasted like the cheap watery canned crap you buy in a 50 gallon drum at Smart & Final - which is probably exactly where they came from - without a even a hint of authentic BBQ sauce or brown sugar. The coleslaw was also watery and super sweet. It tasted like someone poured sugar water over diced cabbage. And.....that's it. The good news is, because the sides are the size of a thimble, you don't have to suffer much. The cornbread was definitely over a day, very dry and stale tasting and crumbled when I pulled it out of the bag. In short, Idk what's going on with Phillip's lately but I sincerely doubt I'll be back anytime soon. I paid way too much for this nasty cafeteria food. read more

Everything was prepared well in execution but I feel like they put kore seasoning in the Mac n cheese than they did the chicken. The chicken is 4/5 was cooked well, not dry but could use more smoke on the flavor . The Mac was 4/5. The greens were 5/5, very flavorful to not have any meat in them. They served them fresh n hot and I ate the majority of the container in the car before I pulled off. The beans were delicious 5/5, the cornbread was cool 3.5/5.
