So there's a debate on who serves the best Philly cheesesteak in Philly. I am a Tony Luke's Fan. I was looking for something along the lines of Tony Luke's...or close to it. This was not it. Also, the price for onion rings cost just about the same as the sandwich! Insane. LoL Way too expensive there. It's been a long time since we visited and we were not sure if this place survived COVID, but thank goodness they did!!!!. We walked in to be greeted by a pretty young lady with a big smile! Always worth a star! Hubby ordered the original Philly with cheese whiz and bell peppers. He made it a combo so we got fries to share and a drink too. I ordered the mushroom Philly with grilled onions. The same young lady brought out our baskets and to our surprise they split the fries for us! Very thoughtful and worth another star. Same great sandwiches and the 6" is a perfect size (although I couldn't finish mine). We both loved our orders, except hubby said the bell peppers were not grilled. It was our first time visiting this restaurant. We had heard a lot of raves and good reviews of this place... so maybe I went in setting myself up for disappointment... We went in a little after noon and had the place to ourselves for the most part. There were a few people in and out as we were there. The woman behind the counter was great! She took time to offer suggestions from the menu. I ordered the duke steak and my husband had the pizza steak. I wasn't too impressed with mine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maybe I set too many high expectations in my head for it. Food is really good, staff is super friendly, only problem is that it's quite expensive for what it is. I paid $20 for a sandwich, fries, and a drink. It feels like it should be about $15. Stopped in for lunch. The place is small, and I think it is more suited for carry out as it is a little Smoky and you can definitely smell the grill. However, the young lady taking orders was pleasant and efficient. I ordered a 12" Duke City and a drink. The price caught me a little by surprise. $17.50 for a sandwich and a coke was a bit much, but maybe the quality would make up? Well, the sandwich was pretty good. I would have liked to have seen a little more meat, but it was enough. The cheese was nicely melted and the bread was very good. It held up to the ingredients well. The meat was a little peppery, but overall it tasted fine. If I go again, I may try the sandwich with the Whiz. I think a messier sandwich would have been fun. read more

All their sandwiches are great and reasonable priced - especially if you take advantage of their sandwich club (buy 10 get one free). They do a huge delivery business, but don't let that prevent you from trying them, I've never waited more than 5 minutes for food when I've walked in. The staff is friendly as well. This time, still licking my wounds (yes I'm being EXTRA dramatic on purpose) I was craving a taste of home so I really wanted to push the boundaries on their definition of a Philly cheesesteak. #phillysteaksabq The place was small and clean, and totally filled with Philly memorabilia. They even had a framed photo of Geno's steak on their wall. Mark ordered the Italian hoagie, which was very generously filled. I wish I could have captured his expression but you'll just have to use your imagination! I ordered the "wiz with" and it completely satisfied my urges. Update 3........ We split the OP, and a order of chicken nuggets. Their Nuggets are BOMB! Really liked them. As I've said before they also have some of the best fries in the Q! Their Philly is also the best I've had in Albuquerque. Only drawback really is their soda machine. Pretty much every time I've gotten one here it's been flat, or watery, or both. They need to do better upkeep on them as it's consistently terrible. Other than that this is a great place! read more

I lived in central New Jersey for 60+ years and practically lived on Philly cheesesteaks! Coming to New Mexico, an authentic version has been hard to find. Spinn's is OK but I always need to order a "deconstructed" sandwich because their version is very oily. If you don't order it that way, it makes the bread so soggy it's really hard to eat it before the bread falls apart. There's a nationwide chain at a number of shopping malls called Charlie's and their offering is a little skimpy when it comes to the filling on the bread. Our real estate agent gave us a couple of restaurant cards and one of the places that accepts them is called Philly Cheesesteaks on Juan Tabo. We took the drive from all the way on the west side of Albuquerque just to check it out. And, we were definitely not disappointed. For one thing, the ability to customize your sandwich is unlimited. You can select your meat, your veggies, your cheese, and your condiments, etc., and there's a plethora of sides that you can choose to go with your sandwich. I love the name, "crabby fries," which actually means that the fries are dusted with old bay seafood seasoning. Very nice touch. Their onion rings are actually made with real onions. The crunch is perfect. In our opinion, the best characteristic of their sandwiches is the ratio of meat/filling to the fantastic rolls they provide. My wife is not a huge fan of sandwiches because she feels like you're filling up on bread. That was not the case here. The bread was the perfect texture and amount for the sandwich. The food and service are perfect. The ambiance reminds me of a Johnny Rockets without the lunch counter or the juke box! The walls are lined with Philadelphia chotchkies, like a framed quote from the fictional icon, Rocky Balboa. So, if you're in the mood for an authentic Philly cheesesteak, made to order, at what is a reasonable price, then drive on over to Juan Tabo and enjoy a slice of Philadelphia in Albuquerque. read more

I don't see how anyone can recommend this establishment !?! Even if the food was good it is so dirty. The dust is so think on the ceilings it's falling onto the tables as you eat. The tables are sticky with layers of dirt. The walls are grimly as you can see by just looking at them. We took a few bites of our food and had to walk out it was that dirty at noon on a Friday. I wish there was a 4.5 star review, but alas. This place is solid. I've never been to Philly before so I don't know how to rate it's authenticity, but the seasoning is perfect, the presentation is great. The value seems about right. You can tell they put effort and pride into the sandwich, which is about all you can really ask for. The only things I can think of that could be better is the ventilation and the pictures of ingredients on the counter, but those are so minor. I've checked into Philly Steaks quite a few times, but I always eat too fast to realize that I never get a picture of the meal to make a decent review. I'm a big fan of this restaurant! My usual is a Steak Philly with double pepper jack cheese, green chile, mushrooms and grilled onions--sometimes with some peppers--with bread on the side. Today I ordered a Chicken Philly like my usual and it was phenomenal! I got some crabby fries and although the big fry is not my typical favorite, you just can't beat that seasoning when the fries are nice and crispy! My family has been coming here since they first opened and I was super grateful to find a tasty new place compared to that place Filling Philly's (lacked flavor, but huge portions). We've tried most of the menu before they changed up to a new simpler menu and everything has been great. The heat of the green chile changes visit to visit, so you know that's some real local chile. We've always had perfect customer service here no matter how busy they've gotten. They're direct, helpful and pretty speedy. I recommend this place time and time again to people looking for a great cheesesteak in NM. This ain't the East Coast, but you'll be hard-pressed to find anything closer to the real thing out here in the desert! read more

Great philly cheese steaks made fresh to order. The sandwiches are loaded and delicious and you can add additional listed toppings at no charge. The regular fries are also big enough to share. I couldn't eat all of my sandwich and took the other half home for leftovers. The price is good considering the large portions. I took one star off for the dining area not being that clean. We had to clean our table where we sat and the beverage area is a little sticky. Other than that I would visit again or take my order to go. Our real estate agent gave us a couple of cards to use at various Restaurants. We chose Philly Steaks because we live on the west side and we had never been here. The atmosphere is super casual and that's fine. The young man behind the counter was really nice and helpful. My hubby and I ordered our food and drinks and went to sit. I am not a fan of sandwiches because they're mostly bread but I was absolutely shocked, in a Wonderful way, with our sandwiches! Oh, the persistence of memory... I was born in Philly and grew up across the river in South Jersey. Now this was a long time ago, and I think things may have changed a bit. For one thing, I don't ever remember getting a steak with cheese whiz. I'm not even sure that was even a thing back then. (I was a kid so what do I know?) I do believe that every cheesesteak I ever had was made with provolone, which is available here. Also, I remember a more hard-crust bread than what I've had elsewhere. So there's that texture thing. It's been a while since I had one in Philly so I might be romanticizing the experience. (For what it's worth, we used to go to Nick's on 20th St. in South Philly, but Jersey diners usually did a good job, too.) Since I live here now, when I want a cheesesteak, this is where I go. The meat and toppings are excellent and I can get provolone if I like, though the pepper jack sounds good, too. I tend to stick with the toppings that are more traditional for me--onion and green pepper, maybe mushrooms. And if the bread feels too soft, I might sneak it into the toaster oven for a minute or two. (Don't judge me.) It's a delicious sandwich and half is more than plenty for me. I might go off-grid and try the onion rings, as they sound really good from the reviews. And with the Eagles in the Super Bowl, I think I know what my main "snack" will be again this year. read more

I have eaten here over 20 times and the food is really good. It is normally a 4-5 star review. The problem is with take out orders that can't be corrected easily. They always forget toppings. It's paid for toppings and basic toppings. On multiple occasions I have gotten home and I have no bacon or pickles or green chili or a combination of toppings are missing. I have still given this place multiple chances to get my phone order correct but every time something is missing. Even after they repeat the order back to me so I can make sure that everything is on the sandwich. This is one of the only places to get a Philly steak and it sucks cause toppings are missing on my sandwich that I have to leave a bad review so hopefully it gets corrected after mentioning it multiple times while ordering. read more

The price was $9.75, which may be reasonable for the amount and quality, but I'm taking home so much food and I don't know how well it will hold up as leftovers. From reading previous reviews, I knew that sandwiches got soggy on way home of you did take-out. I could see in bottom of my basket that a lot of liquid was pooling down there. So, knowing I'd be saving half for later, I picked it up put it in the onion ring basket to keep it dry. So bottom line, with $4.95 for the onion rings, we paid well over $25, without drinks for a dinner we ordered at a counter. My dinner companion really liked his sandwich and actually finished it all. Clearly, he had a bigger appetite. So I think if you are very hungry, try this restaurant and you won't be disappointed. As we were eating my family was quite vocal about this restaurant... "I think I stumbled into an episode of "Man vs Food" and I am full. There is so much food!" "I think I ordered way too much food." The line moved reasonably well, and quick. We were ready to order rather quickly. Since the whole family was with us, we ate in. Each teen ordered their choosing then I mine and Hubby his as he was paying. Hubby ordered 3x the food, as he often does when testing a new place. Two sandwiches, & the crab cakes with mac -n- cheese and fries. There was almost enough food in hubby's order alone to feed the 5 of us!!! When people say shareable about this place they aren't kidding!!! A sandwich is 12". A half is 6! And they pack it FULL! The quality of ingredients was wonderful. I was a touch disappointed personally with the quantity of cheese whiz on my sandwich... but I honestly think if I had asked for more... they would have given it to me... but I wpuld have lost the flavor & didn't want to do that... soo over all I really wasnt! - ya get me?!? This place is incredible!! Cool space covered in pictures and memorabilia from Philly. The service was outstanding. We were greeted so warmly when we got there. The woman at the counter was friendly and helpful in deciding what to order. They didn't start cooking until we ordered and it was still out very quickly. The quality of the ingredients and the freshness was off the charts. We had cheesesteaks of several varieties and a glorious thing called Crabby Cheese Fries (Old Bay and Cheez Whiz). Two diffeeent employees checked on us while we ate. Then one of the owners stopped us on the way out to ask about our experience. He told us he was "straight outa Philly". Philly Steaks. Says it all right. Yes mostly. Boy do I love them. I've also grown to like the cheez whiz variation as well. I know, I know, but what can I say aside from the truth. It would seem that I like the way it tastes! Philly Steak phillys. First of all they are huge. And fully loaded with that thin cut chopped up rib eye steak meat. They are definitely shareable. Unless you don't want to share. Then don't! Ha! They offer some additions like roasted red peppers or sweet peppers if that's your thing. I ordered mine with the roasted red peppers but shoulda just went classic with the onion and cheez whiz. Next time perhaps. Seeing as I was calling it in, never been there, didn't know that my philly was going to be monstrous in size, I thought a side of fries was in order. I ordered a regular of Craby Fries. Apparently they are seasoned with Old Bay seasoning. I can work with that I thought. They should be tasty. Well, I think they would have been, but here's what happened. I called my order in for pick up. I guess there was some confusion with the orders and I got someone else's fries in my bag. They ordered the bucket, which was literally a small bucket!
