This place is only recommended for the early birds like myself. I'm talking 5am to 9am. Less traffic and definitely less stress on the employee. When given the opportunity to handle one order every 10 to 15min (sometimes even more time) the barista can whip up something real special, and I mean REAL special. Even something as simple as when cream and honey are the only add ons. Trust me, after 9 to 10am, they're just rushing; and I can't blame them, it's a busy neighborhood. But if you're up for it, go ahead and get the worm you early bird, and stop by at Philz when the sun isn't up, you'll be glad you did. read more

This is the Campbell edition of the philz coffee chain, and it's pretty awesome. They have their own parking lot which while being very busy-this is across from the pruneyards after all- will usually have a space in it somewhere. This is a more boxy then usual location-suburbia yo-with the least comfortable seating of any philz that I've been to. This does not mean it's bad, but does mean it's long on modern ikea ish pastel table/chair combos and short on benches and loungy chairs. For me I enjoy the window counter seating best. The ordering system is the same-stand in on line to place coffee order, stand in another to pay and get food, but this is clearly visible from the entrance and is somewhat less confusing for new visitors then other locations. The coffee is the same pure delightful goodness (dancing water for the win!) that philz is known for and the pastries are mid range. Note that they do not do the whole latte/Frappuccino drink thing, but what they do o is exceptional more basic coffee. The main difference between philz locations is not the coffee-they make that very consistent-but the food. Here it's not top tier, but not bottom either. The service is as good as it gets within the limitations of the two line system. All in all this spot has all the coffee awesome that you could want. read more

This Philz is a nice location! It's spacious and has a nice modernized look to it. It's great to see a Philz coffee shop that is alone on it's own rather than part of a shopping plaza. Although it looks like an old McDonald's location, they did a great job masking the whole building to make it a coffee shop. The parking is odd and limited but there is street neighborhood parking! Philz is always a win for me and this location was no exception to that. They're quite spacious inside and much more organized than other Philz locations I've been to, I feel like. They do get rather busy, so parking could be an issue even though the lot is decent size. I was about 7th in line when I entered and was able to order, pay, and receive my drink in less than 15 minutes (and that's probably over-estimating the length of time). I ordered 2 large iced Tessora coffees and received them much quicker than I would have at the very packed/cramped downtown location. The baristas were friendly and chatty, which is more than could be said for other trendy, chain coffee shops in the area. The location is very clean and has many seating options indoors. Looking for a quick breakfast I stopped by Philz. Ordered the bacon breakfast burrito. I didn't hear my name called cause it's loud in the cafe. Just got an oj also. The burrito is really small for the price and it's honestly flavorless. The bacon was used sparingly with a a lot of tortilla. The tortilla was grilled so it made the tortilla too crumbly . They should call it a chimichanga. It was dry and not pleasant to eat. The Cholula packets made it bearable. They're coffee might be good but I'll never know because I won't be coming back. Philz, I'm still giving you 5 stars because I just love your coffee! Plus I love the "honor system" payment system you use as clearly people could just order a coffee, wander around, and go pick up their coffee without making it over to the register. So, I think it's great that we believe in societal norms here at Philz! The interior of this Philz is new and modern and there's tons of seating. I like more of the communal seating than is in here, as it can fit more people and you actually sit next to someone you may not know, but that's just me! The one thing I notice is that this Philz has a slightly less community vibe to it than some of the others in the bay area. It's less cozy or the employees have a slightly less eccentric feel to them. I still get great coffee here and enjoy the vibe, but I see it decreasing a bit. Hands down my favorite coffee shop! Service here is always friendly and quick. My go to is the iced mint mojito (fresh mint, sweet and creamy). Such a refreshing coffee that's balanced perfectly with just the right amount of sweetness. Although it may not taste like it, this coffee has a kick to it and will keep you caffeinated all day long. I also enjoy the philtered soul (hazelnut flavor and chocolate) straight up. Another strong coffee with equal hints of hazelnut and chocolate, not too sweet. Perfect if you like a smooth coffee with some flavor without the added sugary creamer. A small size will cost you $3.60 or for a dollar more you can upgrade to the large size. Surprisingly a lot cheaper than most coffee shops and a lot better tasting! You really get your bang for your buck here. read more

Philz fills my soul with so much happiness. I'm always so excited when a new Philz location opens. Located across the street from The Pruneyard, this is Campbell's first location and is one of the most spacious ones I've been to so far. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating with a mix of large tables, couches, and bar tables. I think the only con about this location is that the parking lot is small and tight. Even though it wasn't crowded this morning, almost all the spots were taken, so I'm not sure what it'll be like during peak hours. Like any Philz location, the baristas and staff are so friendly and enthusiastic. I came here on a Monday morning at 9am and surprisingly, there wasn't a line. If you're in a hurry, I would recommend making a mobile order using the Philz app since it's very convenient and easy to use, and you can even choose a pick-up time. For those new to the Philz ordering process: 1) Wait in the order line until a barista calls you. Choose your size, drink, and level of creaminess (light, medium, creamy) and sweetness (light, medium, sweet). 2) Order food and pay at the cashier 3) Wait for your drink order to be called out by the same barista who took your order. Taste your drink, ask for any adjustments if needed, and leave happy with your Philz cup of coffee! My favorite drinks to get are the Mint Mojito (medium sweet and creamy) and Philtered Soul (sweet and creamy). Personally, I like some sweetness in my coffee, and I love how Philz can make your drink sweet but still retain that strong coffee flavor. The baristas are very open to making adjustments if you aren't satisfied with your drink. WOW 5 star service at this location. We came in 5 minutes before closing and all of the workers were happy to serve us. The guy making our coffee was real nice and made the perfect drinks for us. My dad normally orders hazelnut lattes from Starbucks and this was his first visit at Philz. My dad loved his drink and said it tastes more flavorful and you get that real coffee flavor not syrupy. I normally order the mint mojito but wanted to try something different. He made me his own concoction a Tesora hazelnut mix, mocha, sweet and creamy with cinnamon on top. He called it a Davie. I loved it!! That should be a real drink on the menu. He even wrote the recipe down for me so I can order it next time. So glad there is one closer to my work place - ish. Downtown San Jose one is closest to home and is on the way to work but just being in downtown and finding parking is a hassle. This location has a decent amount of parking spots that are easily accessible. You walk in and order and then pay, unless you used the Philz App to order ahead, which I recommend if you're in a rush. The place is spacious and have lots of tables for you to sit and lounge or work. My go to drink is the Mint Mojito, extra creamy, extra sweet. I'm not really big on coffee because the flavoring is usually bitter. However, if you get it creamy and sweet, you cannot even tell that it's bitter coffee. It has a mixture of the mint and the smell of coffee gives you this aroma that's pure bliss. I have yet to try the other drinks but I'm sure all are tasty. My hubs and I have made quite a bit of friends at Main Street and DTSJ locations but are thrilled to finally have one in the comfort of our own city! This location is super spacious with tons of sofa seating, a community table, high tables, lounge chairs, and outdoor seating (yay for outdoor heating!). Philz occupies what was once Baja Fresh across the street from the Pruneyard. There is plenty of parking but each time we've gone it can get pretty packed. Stopped at this Philz location for a quick bite before a massage appointment. Wow, the sweetest woman helped me ( Not sure how to spell her name). She adored my dogs and gave them a special pumpkin treat. She saw me standing outside waiting for my order and brought my drink out when it was ready. They encourage you to order via app, so I did the app order as I always do, and then waited 45 min with no coffee when it's empty inside and nobody waiting outside. There were people ordering with the barista directly and got their coffee in less than 5 min. I asked the store manager (who saw me waiting around for 30 min and can't care less as to offer to make my drink sooner) if they could just make my coffee now and he's giving me shit attitude. They also don't allow indoor use no matter what capacity, bathroom closed to public, while Cupertino Philz 8 min away is open for indoor and bathroom. Both cities are in Santa Clara county!! I would never ever visit this Philz again. I'd drive to the Cupertino one instead. I just moved to Campbell from Cupertino and hope to make this Philz my new go to, how disappointing. Naturally I was pumped to discover that they were opening a location in Campbell nearby my apartment and every time I drove past kinda slow hoping that they had finally opened. AND THEN THEY WERE! Though, like everyone, I knew to fear the long lines though and after driving through the parking lot knew what I'd be getting myself into.... that is until I discovered the mobile order! I'm really excited about the addition of Philz coffee in Campbell. The space is much larger than either the Cupertino or Los Gatos locations, which is a good thing because it's always busy. I've gone a few times and drive by frequently and the large lot is always full of cars and usually a line inside. I believe they've streamlined the ordering process because it moves fairly quickly. However, if you are in a rush I would definitely recommend downloading the app and ordering ahead. There are two dedicated parking spots for mobile pick up, which is an additional incentive. If you're not familiar with Philz, there is not a self serve station with cream and sugar. All coffee is made to order by your barista. Be sure you are on the same page with terms. I once ordered my coffee light and sweet, which to me meant that the color is light because of the cream. To the barista it meant go easy on the cream. They do ask you to taste your order before taking it away and will adjust until it is to your liking. The food and pastries are fine, but not spectacular. The coffee is the star. The remodeled space, a former Baja Fresh, is open and modern, with a mix of industrial materials like concrete flooring and wall tiles juxtaposed with wooden tables. The bench where you wait for your order, in front of the counter, is a long wooden pew that I'd guess is up-cycled from either a church or old bus/train terminal. It feels very San Francisco urban, which makes sense since that is where Philz got it's start. It is a nice place to meet up and hang out with friends. read more

I was very excited that a Philz opened next to my office. Before I visited this coffee shop, I checked yelp to see what it was like and most negative reviews was that the line is very long and suggested to order using their app. Good thing I did too. The line is near the entrance to the door and/or outside. The wait looks like 30mins give or take. Ordering on the app took about 15mins... or it was supposed to. The app said my ecstatic drink was ready for pick up... but it wasn't. My coworker and I waited about 2 extra mins. Nothing too long. I was excited to take my first sip... and it was the most disappointing coffee I ever had at any Philz. The drink was sour and taste like there was no sugar (I ordered with sweet and creamy option). I asked for a straw and the barista seemed to be irritated. I get it. It's the holidays, lines are long... but didn't ask if I loved my drink or if it needed adjustment. The ice melted by the time I got back to my office, which was about 5mins away. I'm sorry, But I will have to come back when the staff is better trained and when this place is opened a bit longer. My friend and I were so excited to try Philz for the first time yesterday. Being from Portland I would say I am NOT a "coffee newbie" nor am I a coffee snob. I get that Starbucks with all of its "frap-crap" is not a real coffee, BUT..... How I wished we went to Starbucks yesterday. The menu has a large variety of beans styles to chose from vs the typical "cappuccino or latte" type of menu; I ordered a large Philz soy "Tesora" bean, requested it to be done as a latte'. My friend ordered a large whole milk "Turkish." I guess I was expecting my latte' to resemble a latte' (milk steamed in espresso or coffee) = creamy delicious, foamy. The barista was explaining that their coffee is done "pour over style" (I am all too familiar with this style in cities (I absolutely LOVE Intelligentsia pour over coffee!) "so it might not resemble a regular latte." I asked if he could make a little extra foam then; "I'll try." My latte tasted like "a coffee TEA" with weird foam. Literally undrinkable after three sips. Was super hopeful to go back up and order a soy chai for me which is ALWAYS a success! I have had real Indian chai (from India) and Blue Lotus loose spice chai Tazo chai and Oregon chai and always delish. Again, so bad. Hopeful my friend would love her Philz "Turkish" bean coffee, she said it tasted like a McDonald's basic drip. Into the trash. This is it, the BIG one. Out of all the Philz I have been to, this one is the most spread out and open spaced one. Bigger new place, same great Philz. My only qualm with this Philz is the parking. I can get really lucky, or may have to find parking outside of the lot, either way, it's worth it. Once you come in through the doors, you are able to see couches and tables along with an extensive patio area for people-a-plenty (patent pending). The entire back wall has bars, and the adjacent right wall is the pay area with small bites. Again, all very spread out and welcoming. The staff is some familiar faces pooled from other Philz locations and some brand new faces. All of which have their own flair and friendliness to them. Prices for what you get, may it be coffee, tea or food are always well worth it. Overall: Good quality and handcrafted goodness has finally come to Campbell. Maybe they'll open one in Willow Glen sooner than later. (hint hint) Tell a friend! read more

The donuts and toasts are amazing! The service is usually good. I love that they ask me to taste my drink before sending me off to make sure it's how i like. The cafes are usually busy and loud. Not really a place I want to be at for too long. So I would say this isn't ideal If you're looking to sit and read or work for a while. WOOOO! Now I don't have to drive all the way to Cupertino or downtown SJ for my sweet sweet mint mojito coffee! All in all, the coffee is standard Philz so no complaints. The opening weekend was insane though. The line was out the door at one point and car parking was not possible. The layout of the store is also typical of Philz; open seating area. There is a lounge-ish couch area, three coffee tables right next to the line, one large table right in front of the register area, bar seating along the entrance windows, and seating outside. It does get loud when there is a lot of people, so probably not the best place for studying (unless you bring earplugs?). In any case, welcome to Campbell Philz!
