Gotta go to Philz every time I'm in the west coast. While I could talk forever about how great their mint mojito is, this time I opted for their new iced honey oat drink. It was satisfyingly nutty and subtly sweet from the honey without being overpowering in any way. It was very enjoyable and you still get their classic coffee flavor running underneath; nothing overpowers each other and it was quite refreshing. It has a shaken quality to it so it's nice and foamy at the top reminiscent of the shakerato vibes that are trending heavily right now. The Philz coffee here has only outdoor (covered) seating, which is a very nice touch for the South Bay area as you'll feel the breeze pass through as you watch .. only cars pass by. Am I basic for admitting I am in love with the Iced Mint Mojito? The concept seems so simple, but Philz nails it. Not going to lie - I've tried to recreate the same taste and experience at home using multiple techniques and recipes, and still can't quite get it right. At Philz, they seem to be able to obtain a much more intense mint flavor - my suspicion is they must use peppermint vs spearmint. Regardless, since Philz isn't readily available on the East Coast yet, I always make it a point to stop by when I'm in Cali. This location is nice as it is closeby to LAX, so it's an easy stop regardless if it's your landing or departing. There is plentiful parking, and a nice outdoor area you can hang out at. Met a colleague here this morning for a breakfast meeting. The coffee was excellent. The service was friendly. I decided to order some food on this visit and I asked for a green chili and egg breakfast burrito. They were out of those, which is fine, and so the next one on my list was a bacon and egg burrito. It was literally the worst burrito I've ever had in my life and that includes airports. I'm not even sure there was egg in it. It was a shriveled microwaved really really awful piece of embarrassment and they should regret calling that a burrito. There are at least 4-5 baristas to keep up with the demand, and even then the wait is around 10 minutes. Worth every minute though. I had a lovely and quick visit! I ordered the Ambrosia Coffee of God by recommendation of the barista that assisted me at the counter and a almond croissant. For under $10 might I add. Starbucks could never...as far as price point! Being a loyal matcha lover, I had to adjust but I did enjoy it! They offer a variety of blends and specialty flavors that would encourage me to return, including their other tea options. I love me some Philz!!!!! That's Iced Mint Mojito Light & Sweet is absolutely divine. I love the fresh mint, it's adds a subtle hint that puts this drink over the top. I love that they grind your beans when you order, that you can adjust the amount of cream and sweetness right there. That they also have non dairy options. I first discovered them in the Bay Area, so GLAD they moved to LA......now if they would just come to the PNW........I could finally get it everywhere!!! If you love a smooth dark roast with chocolatey cereal notes, highly recommend Jakob's Wonderbar. Amazing with cream and sugar, but it's complexity really comes out when you have it black. read more

Every time we plan on having coffee, it's always Starbucks or Coffee Bean in our minds. But this time we happened to be driving by Philz Coffee in El Segundo as we had just finished a wonderful lunch at the nearby California Fish Grille (another review coming up). So in we went for the very first time. The coffee shop is a relatively new shop, along with other food and beverage establishments the the building they are in. There is a fun designed outdoor seating area and a nice indoor area as well with art displays and merch. One thing that stood out is the friendliness of the staff, Christian, Camila, Cassidy and Dash. As it was our first time, we had to navigate the menu. But Christian helped us with that. It was sort of customizing your drink from a menu of ingredients. Great concept! My wife and I ordered a dark and bold Ecstatic, with Stevia for sweetener. My sister-in-law ordered the Medium and Balanced Filtered Soul. Their coffee blew me away! Nothing like this from Starbucks nor Coffee Bean. The coffee was creamy and didn't have that typical sour aftertaste of coffee. Kinda hard to explain what the palate experiences. Best I can say is the coffee was incredibly smooth and strong at the same time. This place is a big winner and deserving of 5 and even 6 stars! I could give 5 stars based off the service alone. I love how the baristas encourage to try your drink first to make sure it's just to your liking and offer to adjust it if not. That little detail goes to show the care they have for customer satisfaction! My pals have really keep coming back for the Mint Mojito and the Winter Bliss. Philz is located in El Segundo in the same plaza as Shake shack and Randy's donuts. Overall the new method of ordering is through the app that you will have to download. I don't live around here but I recently came by and they said they are taking walk-ins but it would be a 5-minute wait. No biggie but they also wanted to let you know that the app is easy and that you can order and pick up your drink after making it. Ordered the mint mojito iced with oat milk! Loved it and totally wish there was a location closer to me. Started off the road trip with a nice tasting cup of this and seriously if you haven't had one you should try it out. These guys are so nice. WOW. We go here all the time. Service is super helpful and the coffee is bomb. We order to go and we also order in sometimes. Coffee never takes more than 10 mins and they hand craft it right in front of you. They're always down to add sweetener or remake if needed. Highly recommend. Second time at Philz. I got on the app and ordered a Honey Haze. It said a it would be ready in 15 mins. I got there a little early thinking my drink would be made early. I've been coming here for a few years now and until recently was always satisfied with the brewed coffee...now it seems to be hit and miss. Since last March when their roasting facility was shut down due to a fire, the coffee blends don't taste the same. I understand someone else is probably roasting it for them, but the quality and flavor is not the same. I order black drip coffee with extra beans and sometimes it's rich and drinkable, but other times it tastes watery, thin, and I just dump it. It seems like the extraction time is inconsistent. This may be due to the fact that the store often seems understaffed and the employees are in a hurry. I will say that this location has some great employees and that's the only thing that brings me back lately. Hope they can get the consistency back on track. read more

I don't know why I've never tried this place before but, it's by far my new favorite coffee shop. My friends and I ate at Calo next door and I just so happen to need coffee for work so I stopped inside. I can't remember the exact name but it was an iced honey drink. I appreciate the barista for letting me taste my drink before I left the counter. Like why can't all coffee shops do that? I've never had anyone ask me that before and I quickly said yes when I didn't even taste it. The next time I went back though, I was prepared. Every time I go to Calo now, full or not, I stop and get an iced coffee for work the next day. Even the next day, it's still always perfect! I love this place, wish I had one closer to me. read more

We decided to get Philz coffee during Covid 19 when Philz reopened with a strict safety measure. The location in El Segundo provided a big patio area so the open space provides a sense of comfort, which was a big concern for customers at this point. I would gave Philz coffee 5 stars for all their coffees. Especially mojito and filtered soul. But my one star review was because the app service that we ended up waiting up to 20 minutes and had to cancel our coffee order because the wait would be another 25 minutes. First, the app forced us to update and lost all our saved information (including password and payment information). We just set in the parking lot and spent 5 some minutes just to update all of that. Then we finally got to order our drinks and excited to drink it soon. However after we paid online, we saw the estimated pick up time was 45 minutes from the time we ordered. We thought it could be an error from the app or just an overly exaggerated overestimated time. Based on our experience with other coffee shops that lets customers to order drinks via the app, it usually took less than 5 minutes to make a cup of coffee. But for Philz, to our biggest disappointment, the app was accurate and it really was not exaggerating about the time wait, the barista told us it would be 45 minutes and looked overwhelmed. Lastly, although coffee would be handed to customers at the patio, but it was crowded and a huge cluster of people waiting in line without any practice of social distancing. The floor should be marked with signals and signs on the side to strictly enforce practicing social distancing. However, it seemed to be more of a coffee party on the patio instead of what Philz claimed to "take strict measures." In the end, we told the barista to cancel our order after she checked on our order. She seemed to be a bit confused why it would take so long as well. We liked Philz, but with this long wait and disorderly and overly crowded patio, and an app that barely function properly... hmm no thank you, Philz. I will take my business and money somewhere else. It was just ridiculous that it would make us wait 45 minutes for a cup of coffee, especially the app didn't give us an estimated time before ordering and causing all the confusions. I guess the management should either bring more staff back to make coffee or provide a better app experience for customers. During Covid 19, we all try to live a bit simpler, and a cup of Philz could have made our day happier and more enjoyable. So it was just a huge disappointment from Philz's app and services. read more

If you're looking for drinks that aren't coffee based, then this is NOT the place for you. Drinks: - They only have coffee based drinks and bottled beverages - Mint Mojito latte was not as sweet as I would have liked it to be. Lacked some flavor. (Ask for extra sweet if you do get this one.) Food: They have pastries and a few sandwiches. I went at around 3:00 and most of the pastries were sold out, so I opted for a almond croissant. - Price for pastries is slightly more than at Starbucks, but I'd say in the normal range for cafe's. - Almond croissant: Tasty, but nothing special! - Blueberry muffin: Just your usual blueberry muffin. Nothing special. *I was disappointed that so many of their pastries were sold out. They're open until later, so I was wondering why they didn't have anymore of so many of the pastries. Bummer. Service: The people working at Philz were super nice. Very lovely staff. Ambiance & Seating: - No indoor seating - Outdoor seating but limited space & the space is shared with other restaurants in the area. - The outdoor seating area doesn't have a good view. The only views are of the parking lot and the busy street in front of you. - Interior of the cafe is small and clean. Overall, not my favorite cafe. I would probably go to a different cafe over this one. But it was worth a try!
