I really want to like Philz, and give it a try every couple of years when I'm in town, but always seem to end up disappointed. The current parking setup makes it nearly impossible to access the cafe, and going inside there wasn't clear signage on where to go to order at the rear counter. This time, I ordered a tiramisu latte off the holiday menu, but something about the coffee taste was just off. I ended up transferring cups later in the day and there were a lot of grounds at the bottom of the cup. Not impressed.

The Philz in downtown San Mateo is one of the nicest locations I've been to. It has a large area inside with plenty of seating and natural life which makes it a perfect place to work. They have some outdoor seating as well right in the heart of downtown. I love that they have a vegetarian breakfast sandwich and other healthy options.

12/10 for service! although my boyfriend and I ordered light and no sugar respectively in our drinks, we wanted something sweeter and the barista was so nice and she added sugar to our drinks and they were perfect! great location too, so many tables to do work!

One of the bigger Philz location I have visited. Very spacious interior with lots of tables and chairs. Perfect to chill with friends or get some work done on your laptop. Appreciate how they have a water jug available to get a water cup or fill up your own water bottle. As always, my favorite drink is the Iced Coffee Rose! I would recommend ordering ahead on the app but service is the same as every coffee shop. Maybe 10 - 15 min wait depending on the crowd. Ofc Philz is a popular spot but I don't mind waiting since lots of seating and don't have to awkwardly stand around.

The new Tiramisu coffee has thick texture. Service is very typical. I like the outdoor setting mall to enjoy my coffee and watch my kids play.

I went to so many Philz throughout the Bay Area over a decade. This one is the closest to me. I hardly go to a non dog friendly places since we take our dogs with us everywhere. But if I do want to work from a coffee shop this is the place I go to. It's such a warm and cozy "work from home " vibe with good people around. Mellow and easy music all the time. Super chill and not disturbing at all. Huge space with different settings with outlets everywhere. Almost feels like a tech co-working space. Coffee wise, they are the legitimate true passionate coffee people. Created their whole system for making coffee naming them and serving them. Can't think of a better one in the whole Bay Area.

The quality of drinks here is consistent to any other Philz. My drink (a half-and-half blend of green tea and chamomile) was minty, fresh, and delicious. SERVICE (2/5) It took me 10 minutes to order despite there being only one person in line in front of me... and another 20 minutes just to get my drink despite me entering the store when it was almost EMPTY. I saw many people come in after me who were having similar problems. Everyone was at least friendly, but the wait was pretty insane.

Always hits the spot for coffee. I'm not a regular drinker of coffee, but I am a fan of their hot latte with almond milk.

    Cookie dough drink?

I don't think there's a "cookie dough" drink, however there is a ginger snap iced coffee drink. It's right below the Iced Mint Mojito

Both burritos were satisfying and definitely worth trying. The restaurant has an open layout with plenty of parking, making it easy to stop by. It's located next to a car mechanic shop, and I liked that they had old-school Pokémon playing on the TV--it added a fun nostalgic vibe while I was eating. Customer service was acceptable, but nothing really stood out. It's more of a self-service experience, so if you want water or anything else, you'll need to get up and grab it yourself. It would've been nice if someone checked in once or twice. One thing that did confuse me happened on a different visit. I arrived around 1:50 p.m. hoping to order food to go, but the gentleman locked the door and told me they were no longer taking orders. If you close at 2 i dont see how you were closed already. It was a little odd since there were still plenty of customers inside eating. I understand kitchens have closing times, but it would've been helpful if the hours or last call for food were clearer. Overall, it's a solid spot for a good breakfast burrito with a laid-back atmosphere. Despite that one experience, I'd still come back and recommend giving it a try.

We were tired, hungry, and desperately in need of coffee. Drake's looked perfect and great reviews. The restaurant itself is charming. There's a small upstairs dining area, and the downstairs bar looked like the quickest way to get food, so we headed there. But the welcome was awkward. A man at the front desk clearly heard us walk in but didn't look up or acknowledge us. After a moment, a woman came over with a big smile, which was nice, but she didn't say a word just handed us menus. So we seated ourselves at the bar. When the waiter asked what he could get us, I started giving our coffee order, and he just looked around the room up at the ceiling, across the restaurant anywhere but at me. It felt dismissive and honestly just weird. Then the coffee arrived, and it was rough. My "latte" tasted like plain coffee with a splash of milk. No foam, no espresso flavor. My boyfriend's mocha tasted watered down, almost like it was made with hot water and a tiny bit of cream. Both drinks were extremely disappointing. Thankfully, the food was much better. My quiche was decent about a 3 out of 5. My boyfriend's chilaquiles were flavorful and satisfying, definitely a 4 out of 5. Drake's has a beautiful space and good food, but the service and the coffee really missed the mark for us.
