Nice cafe next to Ranch 99. Very pretty inside and I wouldn't mind coming here to get some work done or just to hang out. I arrived around 9:45 am on Sunday and it took about 5 minutes to order and 25 minutes to get my order. There were three parties in line in front of me and many more who ordered already and were waiting for their food or drinks. The coffee was the stand out for me. I ordered the hot egg coffee to go and I wanted to down it; delicious! The milk tea menu seems to rotate since the items are different from what I saw on yelp. I ordered the lavender London fog and it was okay. The tea flavor was not strong enough for me. The banh mi was meh. I recommend getting banh mi from Huong Lan instead if you want one close to this area. Overall, I recommend coming here for the atmosphere and coffee! read more

pretty good coffee and matcha. love the different varieties and flavors they have available. i wished there was more 'corn milk' vs ice for my drink. the service could be better, one barista seemed to be having a bad day but other than that, the drinks were really good. plenty of chairs and tables to hang out. not very noisy so it's a good spot to use for a work space. read more

Phin café is so cute! A tiny cafe tucked away in a busy Asian grocery store parking lot. I've been here a couple times now. First time I got the coffee with egg, super delicious! The coffee was pretty strong. My sister got the ube flavor which was such a pretty purple, also don't forget to mix this one because the ube was all stuck at the bottom. We also got the matcha latte and I was impressed! I like matcha but I don't usually order it, but this one was very good and matcha-y. Haha The cafe itself is super cute to hang out in to catch up with friends or catch up on work. There's nice greenery around and not too many tables! Sometimes you gotta wait to get lucky. There aren't many Vietnamese specialty cafes in the East Bay so I was eager to try this place out when I heard about it. The weekends can get busy, so I highly recommend ordering ahead online. I love their egg coffee and durian coffee. The coffee has a robust flavor that blends well with the creamy topping. One of the highlights is their in-store only option of the phin coffee. This Vietnamese phin-dripped coffee lets you watch the coffee drip and then add your own toppings, enhancing the overall experience. This is an excellent spot to grab a specialty coffee and quick bite and power out some work. The pandan coffee is very good and creamy, and the banh mi's are tasty and a good value for the price. Despite the fact I arrived around lunchtime, I was able to find a seat next to an outlet no less and finish up my work for the day. The WiFi is very fast here, which is a plus. I've been to the South Bay and East Bay locations of Phin Café, and the quality is standard across. I wish they had locations closer to me in SF, but it's great I have a solid work from café option whenever I find myself elsewhere in the Bay. read more

If you like your coffee sweet and creamy, you def have to check this spot out! They specialize in different flavors of cream topping including egg, pandan, ube, and durian. The menu offers different combos and variations with these flavors too, such as matcha and milk tea. I wanted to try the popular egg cream but also love pandan, so I added it as an extra topping. When all mixed together, you get a really decadent flavor and texture. It can get a bit full in their little cafe but if there's space, I def would want to go back to try their (dine in only) Phin which is their Vietnamese Drip coffee set up with a flavor topping of choice and a biscotti. One word. OBSESSED. Ever since we tried their drinks, my bf and I pretty much were there almost every week LOLS. We loved their drinks bc the coffee was strong and the matcha was ACTUALLY matcha. I loved their coconut coffee & their coconut matcha. In a cup, they add their coconut sorbet and then add in your choice of either matcha or coffee. Once you stir it, the drinks becomes almost like a slushy. Even though the matcha and coffee flavor is strong, you can still taste the coconut which I love. I've tried their drinks and coffee/matcha variations but the coconut coffee or matcha have to be my faaaaaave. For a coffee shop, I think their banh mi decent. Maybe I'm just picky bc I'm so used to either getting them at Lees Or Banh Mi Ba Le. Their dac biet sticky rice is good too. It's a base layer of sticky rice w/ ingredients on top like pork floss, Vietnamese ham, pickled veggies, cilantro and eggs. It's pretty filling but also a great snack to have w/ your drinks. For those that are looking for a nice study cafe, i definitely see most people come by here. Woo woo finally some good Vietnamese Egg Coffee in the area. Phin Cafe open in the 99 Ranch plaza. The area has a ton of parking, but due to the supermarket and restaurants, parking can be a tough sometimes, especially on the weekends. Tried the egg coffee and thought it was pretty good. The egg coffee compared to the original cafe in San Jose was more on the bitter side, however. The egg was really tasty though! Will come back in the future to try more things. They have quite the selection of drinks and some offerings of food. (They were not serving food when I went.) read more

Pandan matcha where you can't taste the pandan but it's a pretty good matcha latte. Purple dream is legit good. I would get this again. Pandan waffle was a bit tough and hard. Not a strong pandan flavor. Egg puff was eh, not recommending as it's not flavorful and bland. California masubi, I thought there was spam in it but nope. Just a California roll really. The sauce is good tho and size is decent. Combo banh mi was ok. Didn't have pate or can't taste it, not a lot of veggies. It's not too bad as the ratio of bread to filling was decent. One of my favorite coffee spots. Their spam musubi is top tier, honestly comparable to musubi from Hawaii & that's coming from someone who goes to Hawaii frequently! Phin Cafe in San Jose and Fremont are the only places I'm aware of where you can get Vietnamese egg coffee served hot or cold. Most places that offer it, serve it cold. We tried it both ways and favored it hot. The hot version is served in a very small cup. Though the cold version is served in large cup, it's mostly ice. :( We also tried the grilled chicken bahn mi sandwich and it was good. It comes with a generous amount of chicken. We just wished it had more pickled vegetables and sauce...as it tasted more like a grilled chicken sandwich than a chicken banh mi sandwich. read more

I ordered online for pickup since I had to return to work and I'm glad I did. This cafe was packed for a Monday at 12:30pm. There were people waiting in line to order, people standing in the middle for their drinks, and all of the seats were taken as well. I ordered a Pork Belly Banh Mi with fried egg, and a Chai Coffee. The Banh Mi was delicious. The pork belly was tender and not chewy, the bread was soft and doesn't cut up your mouth, the egg was more Ike scrambled, but it works for the banh mi, it would have been really messy with a runny yolk. The Chai coffee is good as well, it tastes mostly like good quality coffee, and a little bit of chai flavor. It's not overly sweet or watered down. Although there were a lot of people in this small cafe, the person at the register was able to give me my pickup order quickly. They were also getting people's orders out. There was a lot of staff cranking out peoples' drinks. read more

I finally found the time to stop by and try out the vietnamese-drip coffee and matcha drinks! I've had this place bookmarked for months after seeing it on IG but wasn't able to drop by until now. I ordered the salted matcha and egg coffee. I wanted to try the drinks with more simple toppings so that it didn't overpower the matcha/coffee. Out of the two, I liked the matcha better but that's because I'm usually not a coffee person. But both were delicious actually! The matcha was strong and paired nicely with the salted topping. I went with less ice to not water down the drink. The coffee was very caffeinated, though I couldn't really taste the egg topping? But this was my first time so I'm not sure how it's supposed to taste. There was a line inside when ordering but it moved pretty quickly. I waited probably 10 minutes for my drinks. You could tell this is a popular place, as all the tables were filled and it seemed staff were keeping an eye on dirty tables. Overall: 3.9/5 (dine in) My friend and I came in the morning on a weekday so the line wasn't that bad and the food and drinks came out in pretty quickly. The space is a bit small but we were lucky to grab a table. While we catching up there, the line got really long but moved fast. Customer service was good too. I really liked the concept of Phin Cafe but feel like they make a few adjustments to improve the food & drink experience. Pandan Coffee ($6.90): Before I moved out of the Bay 2 years ago, I couldn't find a cafe that had pandan coffee. When I lived in SoCal, Orange County had a lot of Vietnamese cafes with pandan coffee but the pandan flavor was so subtle. Now that I'm visiting the Bay, there are so many more cafes that have the previously unique flavors like pandan, ube, durian, etc. Anyways, back to Phin Cafe. You can really taste the pandan flavor which is the star of the drink. However, I think the amount of pandan cream they used is too much. Typically it's like 15-20% of the drink but as you can see from the picture, it's like 75% of the drink. If they reduce it to ~50%, I think the creaminess and sweetness level would be just right. It would also let more of the coffee flavor come through. Honestly you could probably make another drink using half the cream + a shot of espresso. I didn't try the wafer straw since I gave it to my friend but this drink is needless to say, high in sugar. Egg Matcha ($6.90): I took a sip of my friend's egg Matcha and thought it was good. You can see from the picture they put less of the egg cream so it's more balanced than the pandan coffee. I like their matcha too; you can taste the matcha but it's not bitter. Pandan Waffle ($4.75): Texture was good where it was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and it was fluffy. However the flavors were more on the subtle side and it was not sweet enough for me so eating one fourth of the waffle was enough for me. Combo Special Banh Mi ($7.50): It was okay. The flavors were also lacking for this banh mi. If you order banh mi from here, eat it fresh. It does not taste good later or the next day. Unagi Musubi ($8.50): Good concept but they executed it at the most basic level - Just rice, seaweed, unagi, and unagi sauce. Nothing stood out. If they added some furikake, spam, or even some pickled radish to elevate it a bit, this could be a hit. read more

The cafe offers a relaxing atmosphere featuring soothing music, the smell of fresh coffee beans, and warm lighting which compliment the interior decor-- perfect for studying, working, or even catching up with a friend. Super new, trendy Asian tea/coffee shop that has SJ roots. Took over a space that used to be a Gelato spot and they vamped up the interior enough to make it much more hip and modern. They must be real visible on social media as during their soft openings during the weekends, people flocked that line that exceeded over a dozen peeps, maybe even 20+. I don't sign up for such events, but I did manage to try a few things on weekdays where it was nowhere as hectic. I think one of their signature items is a Viet coffee with some sort of custard topping. It is almost $9 bucks and tried ordering it once, but for some reason it is only available to drink there...so no take out for this. I would've tried, but at the time I was there (late afternoon) all seats were taken, maybe 16 of them. So I suppose I need to come back maybe before 11 am on a weekday and give this a shot. But after 3 quick visits, this still eludes me. Cold Brew Coffee ($5/2*) I'm an iced coffee fan, and since I'm not a daily coffee drinker anymore, when I do get coffee, it'll be more cold than hot, as I can get my buzz on while on the go, without having to baby a hot cup. This was weird, like it didn't taste like coffee to me, no roasty notes that I gravitate for. Maybe more nutty if anything, but for some reason I thought it was going to be more bold, since Viet coffees are usually really bold and delicious. This was not, and will not revisit. Matcha Latte ($5.50/3*) Got this second visit, just meh. I got it cold and it just tasted like matcha milk to me. Now the matcha was noticeable but I think I like matcha more when it is mixed with another tea, so taste more like tea. The OG Milk Tea ($6/4.5*) Thank goodness finally a drink hit on my 3rd visit. Legit cold milk tea with a bold black tea flavor, default sweetness not bad, but probably will reduce to 50% on a next out. Topped with that salty cheese cream that I love. Except I think any place that serves this type of cream, should be served in a cup that isn't sealed so you can sip from the top as you get an intial dose of the thick cream, then the tea follows for a unique one-two punch. Happy Lemon is the only place where they come through with that cup. I just ripped the plastic seal off here. Egg Puffs ($6/4*) First time having this and I liked it. I think I like the name 'Puffle' better tho, lol. Served warm and if eaten warm the edges are nice and crispy, while the center is more chewy, like a super thin waffle. Slightly sweet, kinda reminded me of a softer yet warm fortune cookie. Pate/Pork Roll Banh Mi ($7.50/4.5*) Surprisingly a legit banh mi, for not being a banh mi shop. More of a french roll versus skinny baguette and for the price is actually a decent size. Roll nice and fresh with a nice crust that crackles with each bite and quite tender interior. Meats were of quality and in good proportion. Pickled veggies capped off this legit banh mi experience, worthy of many more tries. They've got a shaken beef one with filet mignon for about $10ish, which is compelling for a second try. Spam Egg Musubi ($7.50/3*) This was just average. They have a teriyaki spam one, and that may be better as it may meld with rice ratio better. This was just warmed up spam and scrambled egg. You do get 2 nice pieces but more filling than it has wow. I live within walking distance from here, so I can easily pick my times to come here. I'm starting to see what can work for me here, and when I do find a groove, I can easily be a weekly reg here. read more

This Phin Cafe is their 2nd and newest location, they are located in the Paseo Padre Shopping Center. The parking is hit or miss, it gets pretty busy and packed with 99 Ranch Market here, as well as the other restaurants and shops in the plaza. They are located in the corner off to the side, so it may be easy to miss at first - I think this was Sweet Orchid before. Service was not the best, as the employees were not the most friendly or welcoming, and definitely not professional. I asked the employee at the register, if they have a jasmine milk tea, which she responded with they do not, but they do have a jasmine oolong milk tea. So I ordered The Classic with honey boba, which is a jasmine oolong green milk tea topped with cheese creama. It was pretty busy and packed in here, so I waited outside for my number to be called. My drink was ready in about 15 - 20 minutes, since it was pretty busy when I came by. I did not realize that I did not get the correct drink, until I went outside because of the lighting inside - I received the Jasmine Oolong Tea instead of the milk tea. I let the staff (he was most likely the manager or owner) at the front counter know and he told me in an annoyed tone that I should had specify if I wanted the tea or milk tea - at this point the employee at the register looked away and she was not trying to make eye contact with me because in reality I did specify I wanted the milk tea and she probably just rang up the order incorrectly. Anyway, I waited about another 5 - 8 minutes for them to remake my drink. For my jasmine oolong milk tea - the oolong tea definitely stood out more, as the jasmine tea taste was very subtle. It was not the best tea combo, but the cheese creama saved the drink and added more creaminess, sweetness, and taste to it. The honey boba had a weird texture to it, and it was very melty and warm, so it was not the best taste. Overall, the service could be better and drink wise, it was eh, but alright. read more

Did some work at Phin's new Fremont location. I've only DoorDashed their stuff previous so this was quite a treat to dine-in. Their popular Phin Coffee with Egg Cream was delicious, definitely on the sweeter side with lots of condensed milk. The tray came with biscottis, fresh brewed coffee from a phin and egg cream to mix together once ready! This was $8.50 which was a pretty pricey experience. You can order this as to-go for $6.90 instead. The only difference is the "IG worthy" shot of having it look more authentic. 8.5/10 I've gotten their Pandan Coffee before which is good but the Egg Coffee is better. In addition, I got an order of Egg and Spam Musubi for $7.75 (comes with 2 pieces so $3.88 per). 7.5/10 Would definitely be back when I want to treat myself but wouldn't go here regularly due to prices. read more
