I haven't had Cambodian food in a while, but it was just as delicious as I remembered. We ordered the student noodles and the seafood noodle soup, and both were very tasty. The sauce that came with the student noodles made the dish even better. I loved that there was a big bone in the broth with plenty of flavorful bone marrow. Portions were very generous. One of the best places (if not the only one now) to get Phnom Penh noodle that still serve the pork bone in your soup when you order the dry version. Their menu can be very simple, mostly revolves around the Phnom Penh style noodle or egg noodle, soup or dry version. And the Chinese donuts, which is pretty big here. When La Lune was still open I would go there more because of the space and the big parking lot. The weather has been colder these days, so I wanted something with soup and this definitely rely hit the spot. I got the Mo's Special with small rice noodles and a side of chao quai to dip into the broth. I dressed the bowl with some lime juice, steamed bean sprouts, and the red spicy sauce on the side. All of the meat toppings mixed with the flavorful noodles, finished with a fresh squeeze of lime or lemon--chef's kiss. The soup was also very refreshing to sip throughout the meal. The service was fine, and the food came out relatively quickly considering how busy the restaurant was that day. The only thing that made me hesitate about coming back was the horrific parking situation. Since the restaurant is located in what seems like a residential area, I had to circle the block a few times to find parking. Pro tip: have one person in your party put a name down while the rest look for parking to save time. We ordered the Ba-Bong Noodle (choice of noodles, stir-fried beef and onions, lettuce, cucumber, mint leaves, pickled cabbage, bean sprouts, and peanuts serve with their house garlic fish sauce) and Loat Cha Noodle (served with their house garlic fish sauce, pin noodles, bean sprouts, green onions, chives, fried garlic, peanuts, egg, and your choice of protein). I forgot to take a picture of our food, but I would definitely recommend getting the Loat Cha Noodle. Service is pretty fast and they are friendly! This Cambodian restaurant was first introduced to me by an ex-coworker over a decade ago. The restaurant is located in Cambodia Town in Long Beach and was opened in 1985. This spot was known as 'The Shack' and it is currently one of the original and longest-lasting Cambodian restaurants in Long Beach. The restaurant has expanded and opened a second location in Cerritos called Rice String Noodle Shack (November 2017) and a sister café in Long Beach called A&J Seafood Shack (April 2020). [Parking]: Street parking only and can be challenging to find a spot, but I was able to find a spot after circling the area for 5 minutes. [Waiting line]: The restaurant uses the Yelp waitlist system and you can join the waitlist in advance. Our party waited about 10 minutes on a Saturday at 12 PM. [Menu]: Ask the staff for recommendations on how certain dishes are best served. Their signature dishes are noodle soups with a choice of soup in or soup on the side (known as 'dry' style). For dry noodles, customers receive a complimentary pork bone soup - available for dine-in only while supplies last. The #1 Phnom Penh House Special is a noodle soup featuring internal organs like stomach and liver while the #2 Mo's Special offers the same noodle soup without the organs. Lemme start by saying food is AMAZING. My girlfriend and I love this spot and their food so much! Their Phnom House Special (the dry noodles version) is so GAS. Love it. Service is great as well. Phnom Penh Noodle Shack is located in a high density residential area which has street parking that is perpetually filled with parked cars so assume that you will park far away if you're lucky. The kitchen closes at exactly 3:30pm, but you can stay longer while the crew cleans up. 1) Student Noodles is stir fried long thin dry rice noodles much like Pancit Bihon in Pilipino cooking. Lightly seasoned with a bit of fish sauce, garlic, & soy sauce. I chose sautéed sliced, meaty pork with a bit of a chaw also similarly seasoned.  Crushed, nutty, toasty peanuts, funky garlic chives, lightly vinegar pickled cabbage, and fresh, crunchy watery bean sprouts to freshen the palate.  Bonus is a bowl of bone broth soup with a huge pork bone with meat still hanging on which I assume was part of the broth.  I can see why this would be ideal for a starving, poor student since it's an ample meal to sustain oneself all day.  2) Loat Cha Stir Fry Noodles: The thick, al dente, gummy rice pasta is shaped like a slug tapered at both ends. Because it is so thick, very little of the sautéing in soy sauce, garlic, & fish sauce penetrates and only lightly coats the pasta.  Sautéed bean sprouts, garlic chives, crushed toasted peanuts. Nice little mélange of seafood of sculpted squid, shrimps, mussels, Surimi/imitation crab, slice of fish pâté.  All the above can be flavour enhanced by addition of a sweet, diluted fish sauce with a touch of vinegar gastrique very similar to Vietnamese Nuoc Cham.  Cambodian cuisine is in Southeast Asia which shares many similar ingredients & cooking techniques with its neighbors such as Vietnam, Thailand, Laos.  Long Beach has a large Cambodian community mostly along Anaheim Boulevard, and Phnom Penh Noodle Shack is its norhern extension and a good place for what seems closer to down home cooking.  4- stars. read more

Opens early for the morning people! We came in at 8:00am on a Saturday and the tables were all occupied. My favorites were the donuts! The round donuts are lightly sweet and chewy, whereas the long donuts are crispy and fresh. I was disappointed in the egg noodles, as they were too soft and mushy, overcooked IMO. The portion sizes were smaller than your average pho bowl and the broth with a bone didn't have much meat. Every table has an assortment of condiments to add if you'd like and the service is fast. We decided to leave, and only then did they text us saying our table was ready. We came back in and started ordering. The waiter repeated our order correctly, but when the food came, two items were missing. We asked twice about them, and when they finally came back, they asked us, "Do you still need them?" Last meal before heading back on the road back to NorCal. Not a disappointment. I love the Yelp check in option. For sure a lot of older folks here, that's how you know this place is the real deal. I opted for the soup in the bowl instead of dry style. The soup is phenomenal. It is so flavorful, I did not need to add anything to it like I would usually have to do for Pho. I just added chilli paste for the spice. I like that the intestines are chopped up into little strips. There is also liver in there with shrimp, tiny pork slices and ground pork. It is a pork based broth. I can't complain at all, and I usually don't care for pork broth. The donut is a must to dip into the soup. It's so fresh, hot and crispy, not oily at all. The Vietnamese coffee was pretty good too. Parking- it sucks!!!! You have to park in the neighborhood somewhere. Like down a few blocks. Good luck. It's definitely on the hood. My Khmer parents adore this place and always look forward to eating here when they get a chance to visit Long Beach. It's highly recommended to reserve in advance since the wait times can get a bit long. Parking is also challenging during peak hours. We got cha quai (fried breadsticks aka Chinese donuts) to share and I ordered a dry Mo's Special. Ordering the noodles dry allows you to get soup on the side. Mo's special is great for people like he who don't like to eat liver. The broth has a sweet and fragrant garlic flavor and comes with a big bone that usually has marrow inside. Add a generous amount of that sauce to the noodle dish. 4. Add the lime to the noodle dish. Then, transfer the semi-cooked (leave some crunchiness) bean sprouts from the soup to the noodle dish. 5. From noodle soups and dry noodles with soup on the side or stir-fried noodles and even rice porridge (congee), they have it all. Since it was my first time here, I opted for the #1, the Phnom Penh Special Noodle Soup, it's a pork based broth with sliced pork, ground pork, stomach, liver, and shrimp. It was fantastic. The broth was perfectly rich and the meat perfectly tender. My friend also got the #1 but as a dry noodle with the soup on the side. Apparently, when you order the dry version, you also get the bone-in pork with the soup which my friend absolutely loved. I'll have to try it next time. We also got the nom hing (round bread)...think chinese donut but with sesame seeds. This would have been with a rice porridge if we had the stomach for more food, but again, maybe next time. This place has been open since 1980's. An authentic Cambodian restaurant that will just blow your mind with their magic healing soup. I came here after a half-marathon, so my body was pretty beat up. However, after their noodle and soup I actually felt so much better. We got #15, #17 and student noodle. Tip: ask for broth on the side as you will get a pork bone with meat on it. I finally was around the area to try this place out. The name of this restaurant reminds me of a Phnom Penh that I've tried in Vancouver, Canada. While I'm not sure if they're related in anyway, the food is similar! If you're a fan of teo chew noodles, this is a Cambodian version of it.
