I've always wanted to try this spot in LB as I've heard many great things about it. It is a smaller spot so be sure to arrive earlier to put yourself on the waitlist or come during off hours. In a Sunday afternoon, my partner and I only had to wait ~12 mins for a table for 2. It is a cozier spot with tables closer to each other because of the tighter space so be mindful of that. They offer a variety of dry and soup noodles on the menu plus porridge if you're more into that. The dry version comes with a huge bowl of soup with a pork bone to gnaw on. I opted for the dry version because it was a rather warm day. Service was quick and attentive. I'd return to try their soup noodles and porridge next time! read more

Yummy!!! I loved ordered this dish dry, since it came with a delicious piece of bone in the side of soup. Everything was soooo yummy, truly the definition of a healing broth. I came during lunch on a thursday so there was no wait and parking was easy! read more

Phnom Penh house special: soup flavor was okay but have had better in SGV. There was a lot of meat. Noodles kinda bland. 2. I ordered the #3 Beef and meatball soup with big rice noodles and man it was delicious. The soup broth itself feels and tastes so hearty and cozy. It reminds my of a Filioino stew dish called Nilaga and it made me love this dish here as well. They provide beef slices and a whole beef rib with the broth and honestly everything tasted and worked well with each other it complimented each other great. If you're looking for some home-y hearty beef soup, this is the place you wanna be at. Definitely will be back, as my girlfriend also loves this place. Highly recommend! read more

I'm a sucker for noodle soup so I definitely had to come check this place out because of all the hype. This restaurant is well known in Long Beach and I'm glad my husband and I had the chance to try it on a not so busy day (though we did come early). This place is located in a residential area so this isn't really a parking lot except for street parking. This place does usually have a long wait to try to come not during busy hours. I ordered the House special while the hubby ordered Mo's special. GET THE SOUP ON THE SIDE. The soup is beautifully flavored with rich broth and also a bone marrow included. I heard if you get the soup together then you have to pay extra for the marrow. The noodle dish itself had so much flavor to it but when you add some soup on the side it just makes it that more special. Overall, will definitely be back again but hopefully not during a long wait! read more

They use the Yelp waitlist and there is not too long of a wait. There are several benches outside where you could wait. The interior has a homey rustic vibe with casual Cambodian music. The service was very hospitable. The broth was flavorful! The wide rice noodles and the sliced pork were cooked perfectly. Overall great establishment! read more

Soooooo much food in one order I felt overwhelmed by the amount of noodles haha. Loved to see the number of local families at this spot but the wait was SO long -- we waited around 1.5 hours to get seated. This might be a place to to-go rather than sit down if you're not in the mood to deal with the line (even through Yelp)! read more

Authentic Cambodian spot that is a staple in the community. This restaurant has been around since my partner was a kid, and it is nice to hear that they have been here for so long. They offer great and affordable prices on huge portions. I particularly had the Mo special with the broth on the side. The spareribs that is in the broth is so tender that the meat falls off the both with just a poke. The noodles is soft and mixes well with the proteins. The flavor is on point and better than I had anywhere else. The staff are very friendly, and the kitchen moves really fast. We waited just a few minutes for a table and a few minutes for our food after we ordered. Looking forward to coming back when I am in Long Beach! read more

What else can I say that others haven't said... this is very comforting home made feeling food. I love that. They have a delicious fish sauce that I want to pour over everything. On the weekends, there is a wait and you have to watch for street cleaning. I see people complaining that the food is not worse than one hour wait. The food is good and if can't manage your time and understand it's a popular spot... that's your problem! Haha. I really don't enjoy dry noodles or just broth noodles like my partner but their broth is very flavorful. I loved my beef stew and the loat cha. I love that they give you a big bone in your broth with green on onions. I will drink that all day. Service is good. They feel like family members working together and I felt that they were very kind to make space for customers who were in a wheelchair. The inside is small in a bit dated, but that's sometimes where the best food is. If I needed something I asked and they got it for us. The Kuy Teav Phnom Penh (similar to Hu Tieu Nam Vang for Vietnamese folks) is phenomenal here. I like that you can customize the noodle and the broth is not heavy and so flavorful on its own. I enjoy getting it dry style (soup on the side) and dressing up my noodles + meat with the condiments. It is essential that you get the bread stick and/or round bread on the side and dip it in the soup!! It's such a comforting and filling dish. Parking can be hard with street parking or trying to find a spot in the neighborhoods but it's worth it. They are definitely a busy spot so you'll need to flag someone down if you want add ons or your water refilled. The store itself has homey, no frills vibe. We also got the meat pie togo which had a naturally sweet filling with the grilled onions that paired nicely with the ground meat. Added ourselves to the waitlist around 12:45-50 and got seats by 1:07 PM on a Sunday. read more

This place is so legit. It's been on my bookmark for awhile. We stopped by here a Friday morning and it was pretty crowded. We ordered the following: - Phnom Penh house special: I grew up eating this dish from Vietnamese restaurants. It was so good here. Eating it dry has always been my go to and then you get a side of pork broth with a very generous pork shank bone. So chef's kiss. - chluy bowl: my husband and I have never had this dish but it caught our eyes because we both enjoy beef intestines and they load this dish with plenty of it. I liked the Phnom Penh noodles more but it's also because it's one of my favorite dishes in general. - loat cha: so tasty, great umami. We would definitely order this dish again. While eating here we were already talking about returning again before we leave Long Beach. As I said, it's so legit. read more

This is our first time to come here and all the food looked all amazing! We ordered their 2 famous dish and their breads. The bread with with sesame was so superbly delicious. The service was fast and the servers ( a lady I forgot to ask her name) & Nick are all very helpful and welcoming. The place was not big but its clean! Had lunch here with a friend and the service was so fast! My friend said that there is normally a wait on weekends so it was nice that we didn't have that today. It's not a huge place but there are two rooms of tables. Not great for large parties but perfect for parties of 1-4. There are so many delicious things on the menu but the noodle soup was perfect for the rainy day. I ordered dry style of Mo's Special. The regular and large is only $1 price difference, but regular was the perfect amount for me. I wasn't too full but not left hungry either. Since it was dry style, they give you a complimentary pork bone soup on the side. You even get to select your choice of noodles! I went with the thick rice noodle but curious about the egg noodles - hopefully I'll get to come back again when I'm in town and try those! read more

After watching this on social media, we were excited about giving this place a try. We've read about how hard it is to find parking here, so we got here a bit early and managed to find a parking spot a couple of blocks away. We were immediately seated after checking in. The restaurant is small and homey, with the place being split into two dining rooms. The pale yellow walls are covered in framed pictures and in our dining room, there were two ceiling fans that hung over us. In the other dining room, you can find round tables that seat up to 8 people and in our room, there were tables that seated 2-4 people. We told our server about daughter's peanut allergies and was told not to worry. They won't put peanuts in the meal and we could order anything on the menu. That was great to know. We ordered the following: Round bread - this was a lightly sweet doughnut that's deep fried and it was a great start. Daughter liked it a lot. #2- Mo's Noodles with small egg noodles- which has ground pork, sliced pork and beef balls. She liked it but she said that she preferred the Ba Bong because it has rice noodles. LOL. #13- ba Bong - small rice noodles, stir fried beef and onions, lettuce, cucumber, mint leaves, pickled cabbage, bean sprouts served with their house garlic fish sauce. Peanuts came with it but they took it out. It also came with a bowl of beef and soup. Daughter liked it. Hubs thought it was a deconstructed pho and thought it was a fresh idea. I thought this ok. #16 Loat Cha Seafood Mix and added fried egg for $2- Hubs said that this tasted similar to Malaysian dishes that he's had before. He was pretty satisfied with it. Thai iced tea- I liked it and thought it was nice and sweet Egg soda with condensed milk - he hasn't had this since he was a kid but it brought up memories and it tasted pretty good. It's like an egg cream with an actual egg in it and sweet condensed milk is substituted for the cream. We hardly saw our server again after she took our orders and had to flag down other people for our check and takeout boxes. Food was okay but it tasted like all the other Malaysian, Vietnamese, Cambodian places that we've been to. Glad we got to try this place! read more

We wanted to try the place after all the videos. The restaurant is small and parking is limited. We have to parked our cars the street over and waited about 20 mins. We ordered stir fry loat cha, Phnom Penh noodles, and other items. My dad really enjoyed the broths. My husband's said the waitress should smiled more. I came on the weekday so there wasn't a long wait. I tried to go on the weekend but it was a long wait. ~1.5hrs. This is my second time here, if there was a wait for the restaurant, I personally wouldn't wait. The mee katang was on the wet side. The noodles was also okay, I had to add in all my sauces to make it better but I wish it had more flavor. I enjoyed the broth and meat that came with the soup though. What tied the noodles together was the fried garlic. It does taste homemade so it gives the homey feel to the meal. But I don't think I'd return just because of my personal taste preference. My favorite spot in the area. Food here is so delicious! There's a wait during lunch hour so I'd recommend if you can com a little earlier. Parking is on the street, but I've never had an issue. Lots of seating inside this simple restaurant. The service is attentive and quick. The noodles are the star here. I'd recommend to try both soup and dry noodles. Whatever you're feeling. The beef stew had fattier cuts with tendon, which I personally enjoyed but might not be for everyone. Loved the food here came for the 10 day special they were having with 17hour smoked brisket. I party consisted of 7 people so it took a while to get our party sat during lunch time but that was expected. As soon we entered the staff was attentive and the food came out 10-12 minutes after we ordered. I got the rice noodles in my dish but my friends had egg noodles and those soaked the flavor better. I've always been a fan of Phnom Penh Noodle shack but the customer service I got today was terrible. I was dining inside but also places two orders for to go. The person taking the order even asked me clarifications about the dishes so of course I assumed she wrote them down. At the end of our meal, I asked them about my go to orders. Surprisingly, they never put in my to go orders. They eventually added the items but I had to wait another 20 minutes for the orders.. they said they had a lot of to go orders. But y'all messed up on my orders so shouldn't you expedite it? This made my friend late for work. They never apologized for this mistake either. I still tipped well but now I'm regretting it. Lemme start by saying food is AMAZING. My girlfriend and I love this spot and their food so much! Their Phnom House Special (the dry noodles version) is so GAS. Love it. Service is great as well. The workers are very kind and take good care of you! I ordered To-go after my meal because I live so far away and wanted to take it home but forgot it on the table when I left. Very limited parking and all street parking. We lucked out to drive up on Sunday AM to get a spot across the street from the restaurant. We were told this restaurant once only had 3 tables and was a quite small. It has expanded over the years and have 2 areas of seatings. We thought it was going to be insanely busy, we arrived at 8:30am on a Sunday and was not busy. We were seated, given menus and drink orders were taken. Another gal came by to take our food order. As this is our first time, we were a bit slow and she did seam a bit impatient. We finally got our orders in. Our food gave out fairly quickly. Dried noodle bowl came with a bone marrow. Impressive. We did a few sides of the Chinese donuts and the sesame donut. Worth the additional calories. A very enjoyable breakfast. Would I come back, yes! I would like to try the noodle soup bowl with broth and all wide noodles. That's usually my go to order at each of the noodle soup places. Overall, very satisfying with great flavors. read more

The food is Great. I had beef stew noodle and pork porridge. The beef stew noodle is different from Thai. The flavor is so unique that stand out alone. The pork porridge is also good. Similar as Chinese but a little different, it's perfect for breakfast with the deep fried bread. The service is good and the place is busy. I haven't had Cambodian food in a while, but it was just as delicious as I remembered. We ordered the student noodles and the seafood noodle soup, and both were very tasty. The sauce that came with the student noodles made the dish even better. I loved that there was a big bone in the broth with plenty of flavorful bone marrow. Portions were very generous. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so it might be difficult to accommodate a large party, but it's definitely worth checking out. Very cozy and authentic with friendly service! read more

One of the best places (if not the only one now) to get Phnom Penh noodle that still serve the pork bone in your soup when you order the dry version. Their menu can be very simple, mostly revolves around the Phnom Penh style noodle or egg noodle, soup or dry version. And the Chinese donuts, which is pretty big here. When La Lune was still open I would go there more because of the space and the big parking lot. But here seems to be the only decent location left if you crave for really good Phnom Penh style noodle. Parking is hard so expect to park far and walk unless it's your lucky day! read more

Came here on a Friday lunch. Party of four adults and two toddlers. It was busy, however, we already had seats, since it took us long to do parking and the kids were able to fall in line for us. It is street parking. Food was delicious. Nice hot bowl of tendered beef and noodles were the perfect choice for a chilly lunchtime. It has been raining in California. The matching bread for dipping was good enough for your carb intake. So, if you're in the area and not in a rush for a waitlist, try this place. read more

Cambodian food is hard to come by, so whenever I get the chance to review a restaurant that serves it, I'm always excited. Our table ordered two plates of Phnom Penh noodles (dry, with the soup on the side) along with the cha kwai (savory donut). The food surpassed my expectations. All of the meat toppings mixed with the flavorful noodles, finished with a fresh squeeze of lime or lemon--chef's kiss. The soup was also very refreshing to sip throughout the meal. The service was fine, and the food came out relatively quickly considering how busy the restaurant was that day. The only thing that made me hesitate about coming back was the horrific parking situation. Since the restaurant is located in what seems like a residential area, I had to circle the block a few times to find parking. Pro tip: have one person in your party put a name down while the rest look for parking to save time. We’re a family restaurant owned by 5 siblings. Established since 1985. We’re passionate about serving our community Cambodian street and comfort food. Home of the original Cambodian Noodle Soup. Known for our signature pork bone soup and in-house special sauce.

Established in 1985.

The Start of "The Shack" In the early 1980s, our parents made a transformative decision to revitalize a dilapidated "restaurant" and turn it into a highly profitable establishment. Their vision was to create a welcoming atmosphere and serve simple, yet delicious Cambodian dishes for the local community to savor. Initially, the establishment was quite modest, earning it the nickname "The Shack." With only five tables available, the space was cramped and movement was challenging. However, word began to spread, and by the late 1980s, this restaurant had gained significant recognition within the Asian community. Today, 5 siblings (3 brothers and 2 sisters) known as the Tan Family are keeping their parents legacy alive. They are co-owners of this establishment and a sister company called "RiceString Noodle Shack" in Cerritos, Ca.

I responded, "Yeah, I just finished eating," while holding up the bag that made it painfully obvious. Only then did they tell me where the restroom was. Nothing says "valued customer" quite like being interrogated about whether you actually ate there while carrying your leftovers. It's unfortunate because the food had some highlights, and the restaurant itself has a cute atmosphere. But the service made it feel like customers are viewed more as transactions than guests. I showed up around 5pm and sure enough there was already a line forming in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is located around a neighborhood, so you have to find street parking, which can be challenging. I already did my research on what I wanted to order, so my process went fairly smoothly. I imagine some other people were not as prepared and asked a lot of questions at the counter which can make the wait time even longer for other people in line. We ordered caesar salad, pizza focaccia with soppressata, squid ink tonnerelli, and ribeye tagliata. We also ordered some glasses of wine. After ordering, they walked us to our table inside. This location used to be a bbq restaurant- shady grove- before they closed down. And wow I was so impressed by the change of the patio vibe. It looked way nicer now under Due Fuori. I truly believe the vibe of a restaurant is equally important to the quality of the food, and this place nailed it. Also, apparently you can still order more stuff even after you're seated. They don't really have dedicated server for each table but the service was pretty efficient in my opinion. Now the food, everything was delicious, I have no notes! Caesar salad, very good. Pizza, omg amazing. And I'm not a pizza kinda person, so this is really a compliment! It's the thick kind of pizza, and they put some honey on it too which makes it even more delicious to me. Next was the squid ink pasta, another delightful dish. My only complaint is that it's not big enough of a portion, haha! The ribeye tagliata was so good. It was served with some salad that's very refreshing. The server explained to us that the original dish comes with the greens and cherry tomatoes underneath the meat, but they serve it separately to keep the freshness and crunch. The meat has some nice crust on the outside, very flavorful. We ended up taking some of the ribeye home, as we were already really full. It was plenty of food to share between two people. I definitely will come back to try other dishes, especially the other popular pasta dishes. This place has been really popular and I heard the line is still long even after a few months (or maybe it has been a year now?). Once again I find myself in the LBC, and this time, about a week after learning that the city's "Little Phnom Penh" is the largest Cambodian community outside of Cambodia. So of course I asked my friend (on whose couch I am currently crashing) to show me a good place for an introduction to authentic Cambodian food. (Now all I need to try is Burmese food for a contiguous band of countries whose cuisines I have tried going all the way from Portugal to Korea.) I'm pretty sure I came to the right place. The waiter explained which sauces to put on which things, and was even cool to let us eat, and then go down the street to an ATM so we could pay in cash. He also explained the right way to eat the noodle bowl I ordered, which consisted of pouring sugar on when it was still hot to form a glaze, then putting some exquisitely spicy sauces on it, tossing like a salad, and then alternating with sips of soup. I was pretty stuffed up before I went in, but that chili sauce cleared it out like the millions of American toilets flushing during the first minute of the Super Bowl halftime show. While I may be speaking as an easily fooled American, I would say the place is pretty damn authentic. We were the only non-Cambodians (Cambodia gentiles?) in the building and a lot of the people around us were speaking Khmer. For $6.50, I got a big ol' bowl of noodles with four different kinds of marine animal (shrimp, squid, scallops, and mussels) and bean sprouts, a bowl of pork broth, and a big meat-filled-fried-dumpling-kinda-thing. Parking can indeed be a bit tricky at this place, but fortunately, my friend and I managed to find spots--one across the street and another in the neighborhood. As soon as we stepped inside, we were promptly seated at a cozy table for two. To my surprise, the food arrived incredibly fast, impressing us with the efficient service. I decided to try the dry noodles, and while I had hoped for a bone marrow piece, it wasn't included in the dish. Despite that, the overall taste of the food was delightful. The noodles were perfectly chewy, and the hot soup that accompanied them was a true delight. The soup had a rich and robust flavor that immediately appealed to my taste buds. It was savory and well-seasoned, creating a comforting and satisfying experience with every spoonful. The portion size was just right for me--neither too large nor too small. It left me feeling satisfied without being overly stuffed. As for the price, it wasn't on the cheaper side, but it felt adequate given the quality of the food and the delightful dining experience. The atmosphere in this place was colloquial and inviting. It had a warm and friendly vibe that made us feel right at home. In conclusion, despite the parking challenges, the quick service, delicious chewy noodles, and flavorful hot soup made for a delightful dining experience. Phnom Penh Noodle Shack truly delivers on authentic Cambodian flavors. Their light yet deeply flavorful broth and some of the best egg noodles I've ever had make this spot a standout. And let's not forget the bread, absolutely worth ordering! This cozy, no-frills restaurant sits on the corner of a busy street near Cambodia Town, blending into the residential surroundings. It wasn't quite what I expected when we first pulled up, but the food quickly made up for it. The service is fast and efficient, with friendly staff ensuring a smooth experience. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the generous portions. The dining area is small, but they handle the space well to keep things moving. We tried a couple of soup-style noodle dishes, and they did not disappoint. The broth was rich in flavor without being too heavy, and the stir-fried noodles were just as delicious. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. Parking can be a bit of a challenge since there's no designated lot, but street parking is manageable. During my visit to Long Beach, I had the pleasure of dining at Phnom Penh Noodle House based on a friend's recommendation, who praised its authenticity in Cambodian cuisine. I visited on a Tuesday morning around 10:30 am, and although there was a short waitlist, I was seated within five minutes. The restaurant was bustling with people, and I was pleasantly surprised by its size, as there is an additional side room with more tables and chairs. I ordered the Phnom Penh Noodle House Special, which features a delightful combination of pork meat (sliced, ground, stomach, liver) and shrimp. The soup provided a very homey feel, reminiscent of comforting, homemade meals. It was delicious and flavorful, perfectly complementing the tender pork and well-cooked noodles. If you're in Long Beach and looking for an authentic Cambodian dining experience, Phnom Penh Noodle House is definitely worth a visit.
