It's been quite awhile since my last review but our visits here have tailed off after our daughter's graduation. Still worth the drive to Long Beach to get our fill of very good Cambodian food that I've yet to find up north. Parking was still a challenge and I dropped the family in front of the restaurant first so they can join the waitlist. This time I could only find a spot a few blocks away but by the time I walked back to the restaurant, the family got seated. The menu still had the same great options and prices but starting June 1st prices will be increasing. Definitely understandable in this inflationary environment. My favorite every time has been the loat cha with chicken such that the family knows never to ask what am I getting. We've tried the rest of the menu but the family has standardized on their noodle soups or rice porridge bowls. You can count on lots of ingredients, choices of noodles and rich tasting broths. The cha quai (bread stick) must also be ordered as the perfect pairing for dipping. We also ordered the nom sa-kieu (like a fried meat empananda) again and will continue. We ended our meal with a round of iced coffees for the table, strong and delicious. Not bitter at all. Hopefully we'll be back sooner than later. read more

I was disappointed with my experience here. I did not appreciate the way the waitress spoke to my mom. She had a long, exhausting day, and the interaction came across as very pushy and lacking patience. I understand restaurants get busy, but customers should still be treated with respect and kindness. I also noticed another situation where a customer walked in asking about splitting tables while standing nearby, and the response felt rushed and dismissive. My dad has refused to eat here before because he felt the service was rude, and after experiencing it myself, I can understand why. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for the experience either -- the soup was bland and not memorable enough for us to want to return. Delicious dependable dispensary of Khmer noodles, with AND without soup! When you get there, use the kiosk so the staff know how many are in your group. When seated, enjoy. My usual order is their house special soup (SO good, get it)!, but this time I decided to try their fish noodle soup (not bad). When ordering a noodle soup, you can get the soup on the side ("dry") - and if you do, there'll be a pork bone inside! I was lucky enough to get a big honking pork bone with lots of fat. So I ended up getting a fish soup to cut down on my pork intake, but ended up with a pork-y soup. As one does. Friendly, attentive staff. Credit accepted. Street parking. Came here on a Saturday morning right before lunch time and we definitely beat the lunch hour rush. They have limited street parking so I would definitely circle around to find some street parking. They have an ipad outside to sign up if it starts to get busy. We ordered the pork noodle (you have the option to do it wet or dry-we chose dry) and the beef noodle soup. The dry noodles come with a side soup as well. My husband really liked the dry noodles since it was well seasoned. The beef noodle soup (with combo noodle types) was good as well. The soup seems very clean and rich with flavor. I would prefer to have some sort of pickled serrano peppers though to give it a citrus and spicy taste to balance out the savory soup. We also got some fried donuts which paired well with the soup. Very quick service and the food came out quick. Holy moly! My friend and I were craving a savory hot noodle soup breakfast and we stumbled upon this place, and I was blown away. INCREDIBLE dishes - we got the dry noodle dish which came with a bone broth on the side, and Mo's special porridge with the donut. I need to have this again. Plenty of self-service sauces/condiments on the side- traditional Asian eating. It was busy but service was reasonable. The staff were friendly in helping us choose what to order. When you walk in, it instantly smells amazing. Like actually so good it makes you even more excited to eat. We were seated immediately, but I know this place usually has a long wait. We came around 11 am and definitely beat the rush. They also have an online waitlist, which is nice. Parking is a little tough since it's street parking and the area can get pretty busy with traffic. The food was sooo good. I got the house special with the soup on the side, and the soup was incredible. I literally could not stop drinking it. So flavorful and comforting. For the noodles, I chose the thick egg noodles and the texture was perfect. The seasoning was on point too. They also have all these extra sauces at the table and they make everything even better. I loved adding the vinegar with peppers, it gave such a good kick. Overall, I can totally see why this place is so popular. Definitely worth coming early for!!!! My first time trying Cambodian food and I had to stop by this place everyone's been recommending. I did take out and called 15 minutes before arriving and it was perfect timing. I got #1 The House Special and #16 The Loat Cha Noodles. The house special broth was quite good and I liked the toppings it came with. Was craving noodle soup so we decided to come here. Parking is scarce and it's all street parking so just be prepared lol this place is a little hole in the wall and every table was filled when we got there. We put our name down on the yelp waitlist ahead of time tho and was able to get seated by the time we got there. This is a Long Beach institution for sure. It is the pathway into Cambodian culture for people visiting Long Beach and an important spot to patronize if you live here. Phnom Penh, named after the capital of Cambodia, is a Khmer-owned noodle soup shop in the heart of Little Cambodia, Long Beach. I prefer to get my noodles dry, which then come with a side bowl of soup and a huge bone to gnaw on. The broth is just so good I love to be able to enjoy it on its own. You need to order the chinese donut so you can rip pieces of it to soak in your broth. I also love all of the accoutrements on the side, the pickled peppers and chili paste. You can also ask for a side of satay, which is a chili oil that elevates the spice of their noodles in the perfect way. I always get a Thai Tea/Vietnamese Coffee to complement the meal as well. It was my first time trying Cambodian food. Out of the two dishes ordered (Mo's rice porridge, MO's special noodles with thick noodles), I enjoyed the porridge more. Portion sizes for both were decent. Prices fair as well. We also ordered the long bread on the side. The reason for the three stars is this: 1. Personally, both dishes were on the sweeter side, especially the soup. The soup was also on the blander side and the noodles too soggy when it eventually came out. 2. The service- the bread should have come out first but we didn't get it till the end, until we asked for it. There was no apology. I almost felt invisible. No one came by to ask if we needed anything periodically. Service was at best mediocre. 3. Out of the two ordered dishes, the soup came out about 15 mins later than the porridge. 4. The parking is non-existent. Street parking is narrow and your best bet if you want to even try this place. I did not like this place to try it again and am not quite sure what why there is even a wait on yelp. Came here on a Friday around 11 am and it's only street parking which wasn't too difficult to find for us. There was a short line for dine-in and you can join the waitlist on the tablet to the righthand side of the front door outside. All the employees were quick and efficient. It's definitely a casual home-style restaurant. There was more space and tables than I expected there to be but most of them are for small parties unless pushed together. My sister and I decided to order a thai tea, the #1 phnom penh house special large, and the #17 RP bowl which only comes large. For both we chose large rice noodles. We debated for a while whether to get soup or dry (with soup on the side) but saw a large group of older people in the back corner by the bathroom all get theirs with soup on the side. If you dine in, you can get a bone in the side of soup while supplies last. The side of soup with bone was totally worth it. A huge one you can eat remaining chunks of meat off of and if you're lucky, a good hunk of bone marrow. The soup was so flavorful, I didn't want to add anything to it. I did add some hoison, chili sauce, and sriracha to the noodles. I also added the provided bean sprouts and limes. Everything was very delicious. My only complaint was that the liver that came with the #1 was hard and mealy. I think this is pretty common but I personally prefer a soft and creamy liver. I would love to try the #5, #9, or #10 as well. The thai was great and expected, nothing else to say about it. Would definitely eat here again. It was relatively cheap for large portions. I honestly wish there were more things to try on the menu because I would want to try them all! But with 1 large noodle dish, I was full, so it's not too bad that there aren't more appetizers or something. read more

After hearing all the accolades, we decided to visit the restaurant on a lazy Sunday morning. We arrived around 11AM to avoid the long line but still waited 40 minutes before getting a table (you can join their waiting list through Yelp but still need to check in through the tablet at the restaurant's entrance to get queued). There was no onsite parking, and it took us 5 minutes to find an open space on a neighboring street one block away. Inside, the restaurant's décor is simple and clean, and it can accommodate around 70 guests. For this visit, we ordered the following dishes: #1 House Special: The pork bone based broth was light but still very flavorful. The noodles' texture was on the soft side but not mushy. The sliced pork pieces were tender, and the shrimps had a very nice texture. The liver pieces were not overly hard or dry. #16 Beef Loat Cha: The noodle sauce was savory and slightly tangy and sweet from fish sauce. The teardrop shaped noodles had a tad softer texture. The beef pieces were well seasoned and quite tender. The grounded peanuts and fried garlic enhanced the dish's overall flavor. We also ordered some side dishes: Meat Ball Soup: the meat balls were pleasantly seasoned and had a very nice bouncy texture. Pork Blood Soup: The texture of the pork blood was semi firm, and the flavor was on the light side with a hint of metallic taste. Pork Intestine Soup: The intestine pieces had a quite acquired taste, slightly chewy with fatty tissues. Round Bread Nom Hing: Lightly fried bread was crispy outside and soft inside. It tasted slightly sweet and went well with a cup of coffee after the meal. The portions were sensible and prices were reasonable. The Kuy Teav Phnom Penh (similar to Hu Tieu Nam Vang for Vietnamese folks) is phenomenal here. I like that you can customize the noodle and the broth is not heavy and so flavorful on its own. I enjoy getting it dry style (soup on the side) and dressing up my noodles + meat with the condiments. It is essential that you get the bread stick and/or round bread on the side and dip it in the soup!! It's such a comforting and filling dish. Parking can be hard with street parking or trying to find a spot in the neighborhoods but it's worth it. They are definitely a busy spot so you'll need to flag someone down if you want add ons or your water refilled. The store itself has homey, no frills vibe. We also got the meat pie togo which had a naturally sweet filling with the grilled onions that paired nicely with the ground meat. After watching this on social media, we were excited about giving this place a try. We've read about how hard it is to find parking here, so we got here a bit early and managed to find a parking spot a couple of blocks away. We were immediately seated after checking in. The restaurant is small and homey, with the place being split into two dining rooms. The pale yellow walls are covered in framed pictures and in our dining room, there were two ceiling fans that hung over us. In the other dining room, you can find round tables that seat up to 8 people and in our room, there were tables that seated 2-4 people. We told our server about daughter's peanut allergies and was told not to worry. They won't put peanuts in the meal and we could order anything on the menu. That was great to know. We ordered the following: Round bread - this was a lightly sweet doughnut that's deep fried and it was a great start. Daughter liked it a lot. #2- Mo's Noodles with small egg noodles- which has ground pork, sliced pork and beef balls. She liked it but she said that she preferred the Ba Bong because it has rice noodles. LOL. #13- ba Bong - small rice noodles, stir fried beef and onions, lettuce, cucumber, mint leaves, pickled cabbage, bean sprouts served with their house garlic fish sauce. Peanuts came with it but they took it out. It also came with a bowl of beef and soup. Daughter liked it. Hubs thought it was a deconstructed pho and thought it was a fresh idea. I thought this ok. #16 Loat Cha Seafood Mix and added fried egg for $2- Hubs said that this tasted similar to Malaysian dishes that he's had before. He was pretty satisfied with it. Thai iced tea- I liked it and thought it was nice and sweet Egg soda with condensed milk - he hasn't had this since he was a kid but it brought up memories and it tasted pretty good. It's like an egg cream with an actual egg in it and sweet condensed milk is substituted for the cream. We hardly saw our server again after she took our orders and had to flag down other people for our check and takeout boxes. We ordered the house special and student noodles and wow are these portions huge, yes I did order the large cause I wanted two types of noodles! Overall though the broth doesn't have a depth of flavor so I got tired of the flavor about halfway through my bowl. The noodles to meat portion is definitely noodle heavy but I think it's because I ordered the large. I would recommend just getting the regular. Something to note is for hours after eating here I was gulping down water. I think they use msg in the broths because the flavor of the broth definitely tasted like msg. The student noodles are a huge portion with good flavor and didn't seem to have the msg super salty flavor in it. Honestly 2 people can take down this dish because it's huge. Parking is a huge headache with street parking only and it's hard to find. They do have a bathroom. The staff is super friendly and the food comes out pretty timely. Overall, after coming back a second time I would probably not come back. This noodle shop was one of the places on my list for an authentic Cambodian breakfast when visiting SoCal. Thanks to being on East Coast Time, we went shortly after they opened around ~8AM and there wasn't a line. I ordered the #1 - Phnom Penh Noodle House Special which has a variety of pork meat (sliced, ground, stomach, liver) and shrimp with small rice noodles. The cool thing about ordering the noodles here is that you can choose your noodle from rice noodles, egg noodles, drop noodles, or a mix, based on your preference. The toppings were plentiful but I felt like the broth was a little salty for my taste. We also ordered the Me-Ka-Tang noodles and they were unfortunately soggy since they were doused in sauce. The cha quai breadsticks weren't as crispy as I would have liked either. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our party (4 adults and 2 kids). They offer a variety of dry and soup noodles on the menu plus porridge if you're more into that. The dry version comes with a huge bowl of soup with a pork bone to gnaw on.
