We ended up ordering a Student Noodle, Mo's Special Noodle, and Mo's Special Porridge. All were extremely flavorful and full of texture. The Student Noodle was on the sweeter and savory side, which was a good balance. The porridge was so hearty I wish I could eat it everyday. The garlic fish sauce is a great pairing with all dishes. Portions are big and totally worth it to share among the table. Highly recommend this! Check-in June 2026 - I think the staff and I are becoming friends. I say this because when I went to the noodle shack, yesterday, they predicted my order! For the wider audience that may not know this choice little spot, it's family run and very authentic. The food was amazing, love their noodles and broth! Upon arriving I gave the kitchen staff a birthday cake, with the explanation of " at the end of the meal please bring this over to us so we can celebrate my friend's birthday." They came over and sang happy birthday to my friend. We enjoyed our cake. And then we left the rest of the cake for the nice employees in the kitchen. My usual order is their house special soup (SO good, get it)!, but this time I decided to try their fish noodle soup (not bad). It's been quite awhile since my last review but our visits here have tailed off after our daughter's graduation. Still worth the drive to Long Beach to get our fill of very good Cambodian food that I've yet to find up north. Parking was still a challenge and I dropped the family in front of the restaurant first so they can join the waitlist. This time I could only find a spot a few blocks away but by the time I walked back to the restaurant, the family got seated. The menu still had the same great options and prices but starting June 1st prices will be increasing. Definitely understandable in this inflationary environment. My favorite every time has been the loat cha with chicken such that the family knows never to ask what am I getting. We've tried the rest of the menu but the family has standardized on their noodle soups or rice porridge bowls. You can count on lots of ingredients, choices of noodles and rich tasting broths. The cha quai (bread stick) must also be ordered as the perfect pairing for dipping. We also ordered the nom sa-kieu (like a fried meat empananda) again and will continue. Came here on a Saturday morning right before lunch time and we definitely beat the lunch hour rush. They have limited street parking so I would definitely circle around to find some street parking. They have an ipad outside to sign up if it starts to get busy. We ordered the pork noodle (you have the option to do it wet or dry-we chose dry) and the beef noodle soup. The dry noodles come with a side soup as well. My husband really liked the dry noodles since it was well seasoned. The beef noodle soup (with combo noodle types) was good as well. The soup seems very clean and rich with flavor. I would prefer to have some sort of pickled serrano peppers though to give it a citrus and spicy taste to balance out the savory soup. This is a Long Beach institution for sure. It is the pathway into Cambodian culture for people visiting Long Beach and an important spot to patronize if you live here. Phnom Penh, named after the capital of Cambodia, is a Khmer-owned noodle soup shop in the heart of Little Cambodia, Long Beach. I prefer to get my noodles dry, which then come with a side bowl of soup and a huge bone to gnaw on. The broth is just so good I love to be able to enjoy it on its own. You need to order the chinese donut so you can rip pieces of it to soak in your broth. I also love all of the accoutrements on the side, the pickled peppers and chili paste. You can also ask for a side of satay, which is a chili oil that elevates the spice of their noodles in the perfect way. I always get a Thai Tea/Vietnamese Coffee to complement the meal as well. Came here on a Friday around 11 am and it's only street parking which wasn't too difficult to find for us. There was a short line for dine-in and you can join the waitlist on the tablet to the righthand side of the front door outside. All the employees were quick and efficient. It's definitely a casual home-style restaurant. There was more space and tables than I expected there to be but most of them are for small parties unless pushed together. My sister and I decided to order a thai tea, the #1 phnom penh house special large, and the #17 RP bowl which only comes large. For both we chose large rice noodles. We debated for a while whether to get soup or dry (with soup on the side) but saw a large group of older people in the back corner by the bathroom all get theirs with soup on the side. If you dine in, you can get a bone in the side of soup while supplies last. The side of soup with bone was totally worth it. A huge one you can eat remaining chunks of meat off of and if you're lucky, a good hunk of bone marrow. The soup was so flavorful, I didn't want to add anything to it. I did add some hoison, chili sauce, and sriracha to the noodles. I also added the provided bean sprouts and limes. Everything was very delicious. My only complaint was that the liver that came with the #1 was hard and mealy. I think this is pretty common but I personally prefer a soft and creamy liver. I would love to try the #5, #9, or #10 as well. The thai was great and expected, nothing else to say about it. Would definitely eat here again. It was relatively cheap for large portions. I honestly wish there were more things to try on the menu because I would want to try them all! Personally, both dishes were on the sweeter side, especially the soup. The soup was also on the blander side and the noodles too soggy when it eventually came out. 2. The service- the bread should have come out first but we didn't get it till the end, until we asked for it. There was no apology. I almost felt invisible. No one came by to ask if we needed anything periodically. Service was at best mediocre. 3. Out of the two ordered dishes, the soup came out about 15 mins later than the porridge. 4. The parking is non-existent. Street parking is narrow and your best bet if you want to even try this place. I did not like this place to try it again and am not quite sure what why there is even a wait on yelp. After hearing all the accolades, we decided to visit the restaurant on a lazy Sunday morning. We arrived around 11AM to avoid the long line but still waited 40 minutes before getting a table (you can join their waiting list through Yelp but still need to check in through the tablet at the restaurant's entrance to get queued). There was no onsite parking, and it took us 5 minutes to find an open space on a neighboring street one block away. Inside, the restaurant's décor is simple and clean, and it can accommodate around 70 guests. For this visit, we ordered the following dishes: #1 House Special: The pork bone based broth was light but still very flavorful. The noodles' texture was on the soft side but not mushy. The sliced pork pieces were tender, and the shrimps had a very nice texture. The liver pieces were not overly hard or dry. #16 Beef Loat Cha: The noodle sauce was savory and slightly tangy and sweet from fish sauce. The teardrop shaped noodles had a tad softer texture. The beef pieces were well seasoned and quite tender. The grounded peanuts and fried garlic enhanced the dish's overall flavor. We also ordered some side dishes: Meat Ball Soup: the meat balls were pleasantly seasoned and had a very nice bouncy texture. Pork Blood Soup: The texture of the pork blood was semi firm, and the flavor was on the light side with a hint of metallic taste. Pork Intestine Soup: The intestine pieces had a quite acquired taste, slightly chewy with fatty tissues. Round Bread Nom Hing: Lightly fried bread was crispy outside and soft inside. It tasted slightly sweet and went well with a cup of coffee after the meal. The portions were sensible and prices were reasonable. She had a long, exhausting day, and the interaction came across as very pushy and lacking patience. I understand restaurants get busy, but customers should still be treated with respect and kindness. We ordered the house special and student noodles and wow are these portions huge, yes I did order the large cause I wanted two types of noodles! Overall though the broth doesn't have a depth of flavor so I got tired of the flavor about halfway through my bowl. The noodles to meat portion is definitely noodle heavy but I think it's because I ordered the large. I would recommend just getting the regular. Something to note is for hours after eating here I was gulping down water. I think they use msg in the broths because the flavor of the broth definitely tasted like msg. The student noodles are a huge portion with good flavor and didn't seem to have the msg super salty flavor in it. Honestly 2 people can take down this dish because it's huge. Parking is a huge headache with street parking only and it's hard to find. They do have a bathroom. The staff is super friendly and the food comes out pretty timely. Overall, after coming back a second time I would probably not come back. Thanks to being on East Coast Time, we went shortly after they opened around ~8AM and there wasn't a line. I ordered the #1 - Phnom Penh Noodle House Special which has a variety of pork meat (sliced, ground, stomach, liver) and shrimp with small rice noodles. The cool thing about ordering the noodles here is that you can choose your noodle from rice noodles, egg noodles, drop noodles, or a mix, based on your preference. The toppings were plentiful but I felt like the broth was a little salty for my taste. We also ordered the Me-Ka-Tang noodles and they were unfortunately soggy since they were doused in sauce. The cha quai breadsticks weren't as crispy as I would have liked either. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our party (4 adults and 2 kids).
